Prompt 195
“Oh. It’s you.”
The entity that had been summoned practically growled, a cloak like swirling galaxies- or was it swirling galaxies molded into a cloak- shimmering around their form. One pair of arms crossed over a chest where a star pulsed with the heartbeat of universes, alive yet dying as lazarus green eyes glowered down at the league and bats alike.
“You know you could, fucking call, right?” they whined, aura of terror suddenly broken, unnatural fear torn away and leaving all of them wrong-footed and confused.
Well, apparently all of them except for Ras, who had an honest to fuck grin on his face, one that looks almost carefree, if a little feral. Nope. No thanks. Not this timeline-
“But phones didn’t exist last we spoke, ya ‘amar.”

People need to stop giving scented stuff as teacher gifts. This goes double for those obviously cheap, generic gift sets you found at a Walgreens.
For one, scents are highly personal things, and you don’t know what I want to smell like. Cheap lotions and body sprays don’t really make me feel all that appreciated, they just tell me you feel obligated to get me something and don’t know me well enough to have an idea of what I’d like.
Secondly, it feels almost insulting. Like, do you think I stink?
Ultimately, the lotion you bought me will probably collect dust in my closet for several months, and then I’ll donate it.
If you must spend money to gift me a thing, get a gift card. I can use that. Target/Amazon/Generic-Prepaid-Visa are preferred, because I can use it for anything - I could use them on things I need, or treat myself to a want I might otherwise not be able to justify getting. (Including lotion in a scent I DO like!) Gift cards for coffee are a secondary preference - even if I’m not a big coffee person, most places have other options, and even if it’s not my preferred location to get coffee, whatever, I don’t mind going to my non-preferred coffee spot for a free drink every once in a while.
I’m not trying to sound ungrateful (though let’s be real, I did write all this to complain into the void, because sometimes you just gotta), but for real. It’s probably too late for me to make a difference to anyone this year, but if you have a teacher in your life that you want to give a gift to, give them a gift card. Stop buying scented stuff for people you don’t know well.

just got back from my school's senior prank night 😃 it was all fun in games. we saran-wrapped the stairs and put hundreds of balloons in them. someone used a fog machine and "hot boxed" a teachers room. we made (failed) slime in the parking lot.
all was well.
until,
some idiots (my friends included) started doing donuts and making the most horrendous SCREECHING noise ever known to man 😭 JUST as I was saying to my friend's boyfriend that "hey the janitors are watching us hey do you think someone might call the cops hey don't you think that noise is suspicious?"
my friend comes running back from doing donuts saying the cops are coming so we all DROVE away and met at a nearby taco bell 😭
it was SO suspicious bc so many kids from my school pulled in and the same friend pulls up beside me and says one of our classmates is being chased??? and to meet at the nearby park???
FRICK no. i booked it home.
the thrilling conclusion? i got sent a group pic with everyone left behind and the cops 😭 WHAT went on after I left?
anyway my whole class hates each other, but the one thing we'll come together for is 1) trashing the school and 2) evading the law
and i think thats pretty special 😃✨🥰

I noticed the more mainstream fandom either hates buggy or they think he represents the lost potential. Do you agree with that statement? Why? And if so do you think narrative points out to him finally rising?
ah, mainstream fandom, who needs 'em!
that said, i do think there's something to the "lost potential" concept, though i wouldn't phrase it that way myself. rather, i'd say buggy represents another way of looking at the concept of freedom—because when individual choice is sacrosanct, that includes bad choices.
if people have true freedom, that includes the freedom to self-sabotage, to make choices not in your best interest. that includes the freedom to choose greed over friendship, or even safety over freedom.
so i guess you could consider buggy making those decisions a sort of lost/squandered potential, but idk, something about that phrasing rubs me the wrong way. who are we to claim we know the kind of man buggy could have been? the person who raised you doesn't determine the kind of person you'll become.
anyway, idk about the lost potential perspective leading to a buggy Good Ending, but i think my freedom of choice take certainly allows for it. all buggy has to do is be brave enough to make the harder, better choice. and then the harder, better choice that comes after that, and the one after that, and… you get the idea.

but also can we talk about how I, star student who happens to be marginalized, have had so much trouble keeping a B in this one (1) teacher’s class and nowhere else bc he can’t treat me right? How I was so stressed going in there every day and didn’t feel comfortable asking for help? bc that’s just an example of a systemic issue when so many people are Like This

hate to break it to yall but a lot of kids who were designated as gifted in like elementary school in fact did absolutely not fit easily into the school system. in fact, that difficulty with the system is often the very reason they get the label gifted in the first place.

a thing that irks me about wgxn as lsz's Best Parents Ever and lsz himself calling them his fathers iiiis that aren't... parents and basically ancestors... kinda important in chinese culture? yknow, like *gestures at some of the characters' complicated relationships w/ their parents, their legacy and last wishes*? lsz discovers he's a wen and doesn't immediately go "ah well, doesn't matter, they were Problematic and i feel more like a lan anyway", but rather goes to the nighless city with wn to bury the ashes of their family and build a cenotaph for wq. that means he still wants to honor his ancestry, especially since he's the last surviving member of his clan. would lsz just... conveniently forget about all that -- about his parents, whoever they were, who died in the war -- for lwj? hm
#there was a post or perhaps a thread or maybe even more than one#about how the juniors would SURELY mistakenly refer to their sect leaders as mom/dad and i was like. g#i think kids call teachers 'mom' because they're still young and don't have much contact with adults that aren't parents/their family#members. so when you want to call an adult and your brain malfunctions you either go mom or dad (so: the usual)#but if you're a disciple of a sect you have a Bunch of older people around you each of which has their own name -- sect siblings#teachers etc not to mention other sects' members -- so i feel like it would be much more difficult to make that mistake#especially since i'm not quite sure disciples at that age would see the sect leader a lot unless he's personally teaching them#but ig that doesn't happen very often if he's busy with other things. there are other disciples and elders who can pass their knowledge dow#idk it just seems kinda... western? american? i can't say. to assume an adult who's important has to be a parent/parental figure which is#ALMOST the same as parent really! and can be referred to as 'dad'/'mom'#like. no! not really! a 'teacher' is not just your ms smith who taught you english and always praised your handwriting!#it can very much be the person who pushed you to become the person you are right now because they saw your potential#and without them you wouldn't be where you are. this kinda person you send gifts and cards every year for decades after graduation#because you're this thankful for everything they've done for you.#shrimp thoughts#this is not to say that he doesn't feel grateful for everything lwj's done for him -- he saved his life -- but that still doesn't have to#equate to Being his father. wzl didn't call wrh his father either and look how dedicated he was

im so tired of ppl talking about the horrible burden of being a “gifted kid” mostly bc being labled “gifted” in school is incredibly racially biased. being “gifted” doesn’t actually have that much to do with intelligence, and thinking of yourself as a “higher achiever” than your peers has more to do with looking down on others than actually being pressured into unattainable standards. im sure some people did have to deal with that, but when you are pushed into something that tells you that you (often white) are smarter and more special than your peers (black, latino, indigenous) the real divide is racial.
it sucks to grow up and find out that higher education/the “real world” are hard for you. doing well on a standardized test in elementary school is not a great indicator for learning later in life. it is frustrating! but sooooooooo many “former gifted kids” cry about their loss of identity of being a “better” person than their peers and its insufferable. and lets be honest: how many of yall “i was reading on a college level at age 9″ were actually reading college level books?
the thing is that the american public school system fails us all. it fails smarter students but also the kids that get labeled “lazy” and “stupid”. its easy to say “well those kids probably have learning disabilities or neurodivergencies that went unnoticed” and for many people thats true! but why do people need to justify being stupid to you? whats actually so wrong about not doing well in school, regardless of the reason? maybe you have a learning disability, maybe you have to take care of your siblings or your house and dont have time to focus on schoolwork, maybe you work to help pay your families bills, or maybe you’re just “stupid”! theres nothing wrong with that!
which brings me to my main point which is: being smart doesn’t make you a better person. intelligence is just not that important. do you treat others with kindness and respect? do you work to improve your community in any way? or do you look down on people that don’t meet your personal expectations and treat them poorly? intelligence doesnt build communities. intelligence cant create art, it cant feed and house your unhoused neighbors, it doesnt offer compassion. there is not one single thing about being smart that makes you better than anyone else. start caring about shit that actually matters.
