So much of fandom is going "where's the source for this one piece of characterisation?" and then there just is none, it was fully made up by the fandom and everyone just rolls with it

Like (correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't fully finished Merlin yet, I've just looked on the fandom wiki) but Percival was NOT raised by druids? Is that fully a fanon thing people have made? And also, his backstory often includes children in fanfiction, but there's not source for this as well

And I love it so much, I love having a fanon where we add little things to characters who don't get much screen time or backstory to flesh them out further and then everyone just accepts it

The knights love and hate Merlin coming to training. They love it because Merlin is their little cheerleader and they seem to perform better when Merlin is there to cheer them on. They hate it because he never cheers Arthur on and Arthur gets jealous and shows off to catch Merlin’s attention which means that Arthur performs better when Merlin is there which makes him a demon on the field. Which means the knights have to visit Gaius after training to get new bruise salves and that one time when Percival had to get his broken nose set because he ducked too late when Arthur was swinging the hilt of his sword down because he was exhausted from how hard Arthur was pushing them

for the bbcm ship rating - has anyone asked for gwaine/Percival yet?

Not yet!

Honestly I think it’s an okay ship. It pops up a lot as a background ship and it’s innocuous enough not to bother me. However, I think both Gwaine and Percival have better chemistry with Elyan than they do with each other.

Often in fics it feels like one of those ships that gets thrown in because authors feel like if they aren’t pairing everyone up, then they’re neglecting characters. For me there’s also a weird correlation between people who include this ship in their work, but leave Elyan out of the fic altogether which sours this ship for me. Ultimately, I think it’s fine but I’m not compelled by it and I don’t see much story opportunity in it for my personal tastes.
