Do you own any Looney Tunes production art?
i’m incredibly fortunate enough to say that I DO!! i own this wonderful photostat model sheet from Porky the Wrestler!
Tumblr media
a photostat is essentially the ‘30s equivalent of a photocopy, so it’s not THE actual model sheet drawing, but it was still in the hands of at least one of the animators who worked on the short! if you hold it at a certain angle and get the light to reflect off of it, there are actually some indentations of writing, as if someone was writing on a piece of paper on top of it… and of course the hooves and side snout drawn in marker which aren’t meant to be there (maybe it was a slow work day?)
i actually still haven’t gotten it framed, i need to… but i also just really enjoy being able to hold it in my hands and try and make out the writing indentations on top and also lose my mind at Oh My God Someone In The Tex Avery Unit Touched This At One Point. plus, the material is glossy/has a cardboard sort of feel to it (like a more sturdy printed photograph) so it’s not as delicate as animation paper and gets along fine sitting on my shelf as is HAHA. still, definitely want to find a proper means of displaying it sometime!

Sorry for the silence yall. After Saturday I made the decision to quit Diet Pepsi and I’ve been 5 days no carbonation whatsoever. Withdrawals suck and I’ve been a real b*tch the last few days and didn’t want to subject y’all to that lol

look at me, listen to me, trust me:
as somebody who is currently living through the worst trauma and depression of my life, i gotta tell you:
you cannot live on coffee
coffee cannot be your replacement for sleep or nutrients. it will become less effective over time and mess up your endocrine system (the system responsible for hormone and sleep regulation). your stress and anxiety will increase and you may put your heart and kidneys at risk. you also might shit yourself sometimes
this may all seem very obvious but its possible to be in the mindset where Living On Coffee makes sense to you
what i'm saying is coming from a place of experience. and love. you cannot live on energy replacements. no matter how tasty
eat veggies. drink water. sleep. you can do other things, you can indulge, i promise! just please, do basic self care too

thoughts on pilk (pepsi milk)?
I've been on the "just drink the stuff" side of "drink the stuff" but I'll give it a try
Tumblr media
("the stuff," for those who don't recognize the name, is pabst pilsk, a carbonated, non-milk beer.)

The Corporation Wars Part 1
( Please come see me on my new patreon and support me for early access to stories and personal story requests :D https://www.patreon.com/NiqhtLord Every bit helps)
In 1989 the Soviet Union made an agreement with the Pepsi CO and handed over a fleet of outdated naval warships and submarines for continued distribution of their product within the Soviet Union. The agreement was originally going to be that while Pepsi claimed the ships they would be immediately handed over to a Norwegian metal company that would dismantle the ships for scrap metal and return the profits to Pepsi.
That was the original plan, but not what happened.
A sect of the Pepsi board realized that now controlling the sixth largest navy on the planet, even with outdated ships, could be a powerful negotiating tool.
Naturally the governments of the world, especially the United States, were not agreeable to the idea of a private entity having such military potential. It had not been since the Middle Ages that large mercenary armies of Europe that such martial power acted as a rogue element not bound to the laws of any one nation.
Around the same time a series of attacks were carried out against merchant ships carrying Pepsi products. Pepsi used these attacks as justification for the maintenance of their new fleet and promised it would be used exclusively for the protection of their ships.
It had dawned for more than one person that it was rather convenient that these attacks began just as the question of Pepsi’s naval power was being called into question, but as the attacks continued Pepsi gained a powerful backer in the Soviet Union for support of the proposal. It was later discovered Pepsi had promised the USSR a double share of what had been previously agreed upon for their support. With such a powerful backer many nations switched to supporting the Pepsi navy agreement and the company was allowed to maintain its fleet.
In a matter of months the attacks against shipping lanes were drastically decreased. Pepsi ships were now seen shadowing shipping convoys across the globe. A fact that pleased many nations who in turn allowed the company to modernize their fleet it complete defiance of the original agreement. Within a year the company had taken up the mantle of trade protector and in a mirror tactic of USA policy established several military bases in costal nations to house their fleet.
As attacks against Pepsi shipping decreased the attacks against its competitors began slowly increasing. Nestle, Coca-cola, Kellogg, and more had their distribution networks disrupted which hurt their financial status. As their share values began to slide Pepsi CO began purchasing the shares and slowly buying out their competitors one by one.
Responding swiftly to these attacks the other corporations began amassing their own military might to protect their interests. The world ruling for Pepsi CO had opened the floodgates for any multinational company to assemble private military forces to protect themselves under the guise of saving world governments the potential expenses.
Coca-Cola made several lucrative agreements with the United States and United Kingdom to mirror Pepsi’s fleet. Taco Bell held numerous job hosting events and swiftly collected the 16th largest ground based army in the world centered in North America. Nestle made used existing inroads they had forged decades ago in South America and created numerous militias but found themselves at odds with the drug cartels who had already established themselves in the regions. Even McDonalds had gotten control of the latest missile boats and used them to patrol the waters around every major port on the globe.
With so many major companies employing private militaries it was only a matter of time until someone, somewhere, did something incredibly stupid. That stupid moment was off the coast of southern France when a Pepsi fleet blocked passage of McDonald’s products until the company replaced Coca-Cola from their menu with Pepsi.
Tensions were frayed and boiled over until a McDonalds cruiser fired a KH-55 missile at the Pepsi fleet in an attempt to scare them off. The missile’s trajectory had been set to land between the Pepsi ships and detonate harmlessly in the water, but a malfunction happened with the missile and it veered off course and struck the bridge of a Pepsi Cruiser obliterating it in an instant.
Within moments the remaining Pepsi ships returned fire and the first battle of the Corporation Wars had begun.

8 "Like a prayer" - Madonna
writers Madonna and Pat Leonard
"As close to art as pop music gets" - Rolling Stone
Part of the UncoolTwo50 project, marking the best singles from 1977-99.
Reputations can go down as well as up. Madonna had been the hottest thing in pop during the mid-1980s, smashes like "Into the groove" and "Papa don't preach" had been inescapable. Then she'd run into a bad crowd - married Sean Penn, made the not-very-good movie Who's that girl?, taken up running with a cougar, and dropped out of the media megastar limelight to appear in the Broadway play Speed-the-plow.
Tumblr media
So, after an unusually long silence, we had high hopes for "Like a prayer". Madge did not disappoint.
"She's coming back with not just a good Madonna song, but with this totally over the top masterpiece. It's like she's stepped back in time to her "Like a virgin" disco days, pulled out a thumping great dance beat, mixed together all these ideas about religion and lurve in a most Prince-like fashion, and thrown in the massed ranks of a gospel choir to boot. Madonna returns triumphantly. Gasp in amazement." - Smash Hits
"Like a prayer" begins and ends with squealing guitar riffs, moves through basic pop-dance, to a gospel choir finale. Five-and-a-half minutes is long for a single, even in 1989, but it's difficult to say where any flab might lie.
It's the turning point in Madonna's career. She's no longer a bubblegum pop star who sings about falling for boys ("True blue"), breaking up bad relationships ("Causing a commotion"), and occasional balladry ("Live to tell"). No, here we have the proof that Madonna is constantly reinventing herself, striving to push the edge of art. We may have come into 1989 with doubts that Madonna was a great; "Like a prayer" proved she was.
Madonna's prepared to tackle the big burning questions of the late 1980s. Like, racism, and the Catholic church, and family relationships, and growing up. But mostly the Catholic church. "The theme of Catholicism runs rampant. It's me struggling with the mystery and the magic that surrounds it. My own Catholicism is in constant upheaval," Madonna said.
vimeo
Madonna is causing a commotion. The video for her new single "Like a prayer" has been banned by RAI, apparently it's blasphemous against their local version of Christianity.
Ah, the video. Madonna plays the role of a young woman in the throes of religious ecstacy, kissing a Black man who may or may not be Jesus, giving herself stigmata, bailing him out of jail, there are burning crosses on a hillside, and it's all very confusing. Especially if you're only watching Top of the Pops, where they made a 110-second compilation of clips from near the end of the video, and showed them out of order.
People who did see the video saw something that offended them, and they were not shy in voicing their displeasure. The furore caused the Pepsi corporation to cancel their advert with Madonna, as if there's something wrong with the little girl watching her older self dancing in the middle of a city street.
youtube
Anyway, Madonna came out of it richer by about $5 million, her image was burnished as someone feisty and in control of herself, and the Pepsi company looked like cowards. Later in the year, she'd begin her Blonde Ambition tour, then came more music, movies, children, though the next husband is after the year 2000. Madonna continued to make essential music into the new century: we may argue when she stopped being relevant, but everyone agrees she'd jumped the shark by her atrocious interval act at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
For this project's longlist, I limited myself to one Madonna single from two albums. "Open your heart" from True Blue, which is an astonishingly mature song composition. "Deeper and deeper" from Erotica, updating traditional Madonna. "You must love me" from the Evita soundtrack, an under-rated song from a reviled part of her career. And "Frozen" from the album of the same name.
