It's here!!! Wild platinum European red fox. Lighting is terrible today so these are the best pics I could get. Will take some better ones outside when it's not raining.
This fox is my holy grail. I have been obsessed with these wild platinum foxes since I saw a photo of one in 2011. I've always wanted the chance to examine one up close so getting this beauty is very exciting. The fur on it is so interesting. It has the coarse texture of a European fox but with slightly longer guard hairs and a thick woolly undercoat like a farmed American red fox (NARF). You can definitely tell that it's a European x NARF hybrid!
Hybrids are becoming more common in the UK and parts of Europe. In the past this was the result of farm foxes escaping/being released, but more recently it's due to pet NARFs that escape/are abandoned and breed with the native wild foxes. Some of these foxes are direct hybrids, but many are the result of hybridisation many generations back. Here's some more examples of wild platinum foxes from the UK:

What's also interesting is that she has the fawn spots on the ears commonly seen in European foxes. The exact cause of these spots is unknown, but this strongly suggests it's a distinct white spotting pattern.

It's not unusual in the Way to preserve someone's pelt when they die. You can find them hanging out by themselves, as they aren't owned. If you use a pelt, it's seen as traveling with you.
- It's rude to treat them solely as decoration. - They're common in places people travel through. - They're accepted as mementos, not spirits- like passing around an old photo album. - Most are missing parts, so I'm sure there's a good story attached if you happen by someone that knew the guy.
I thought this would be a fun way to sneak in childhood OCs that will never get remade.

I got a whole lotta projects lined up. I just need the time and money to actually do them.
Anyway, here’s a partial deer pelt I collected from a roadkill doe. Tanned and stretched out on a thrifted wardrobe mirror frame. I really like how it turned out, now if only I had the wall space to actually display it…

Wolf vs Coyote Pelts
Definitely two of my favorite pelts, it just amazes me how big these guys are. My large coyote pelt is from New Hampshire which explains his huge size while the black wolf is from Alaska.
Both have a bit of a more wirey hair texture than that of a fox or tanuki.

Halloween
Little Halloween photo shoot with my lovely dog Marlow. He’s been forever obsessed with trying to get into my study, so I think he found it pretty fun/interesting to finally be allowed in here to explore and touch things. He showed great restraint despite the amount of interesting smells and textures.

Close-ups of all my farm fo.x pelts to date. There's plenty more colours I'd love to get someday but don't really have space for any more right now.

I got a new tail!
Mine is the black/brown fox tail. I also got got @meowing-creature a red fox tail, which is in the last picture. Im super happy with it and its really big and fluffy. I already had a coyote tail that I got when I was in like elementary school from the renaissance fair, but I really wanted one that was closer to my brown Siamese theriotype.

I got these from Bearmeat's Indian Den in Cherokee, NC. All of their products are produced by indigenous people, and most of it comes from locals. Its one of the few stores around there where you can get authentic Cherokee products. And everything was super high quality. They had a lot of different kinds of pelts, leather, and other animal products, here's a picture of the full pelts:

To as close as I can remember, from left to right the pelts include: wolf, bobcat, coyote, opossum, raccoon, fox, otter, more fox, and more opossum. Some other ones that aren't in the picture were beaver, and badger. All of the leather pieces are deer leather. While posting about this I feel as though I should say if you are anti-(ethical)fur, please do not comment on this post or try to argue about it. You're welcome to unfollow me, as I am heavily in favour of real fur use for many reasons. Again, all of this fur is sourced locally and produced by Cherokee or indigenous people.
