Mono print

Mono print is, doing a drawing on paper as a template.

Have different coloured glass plates painted with watered pigment painted on.

Place your paper onto glass plate and draw over it .

This is for the drawing to pick up the colour from underneath.

You can do a few different drawings and pigment colours.

Place on your fresh clay and rub on with a plastic kidney.

Voila. Images and colours on clay.

This isa great technique for fine detail.

Paper resist is when you make a stencil into newsprint.

Place onto your clay.

Paint into the open area of stencil, working from centre to edge.

Leave it to dry and remove paper.

Beautiful process.

#bingqiu #shen qingqiu #luo binghe #svsss #sqq #lbh #my art #which is honestly just to say that i've finished the other two print books i was reading #and am now prepared to leap feet first into svsss bk4 #i succeeded in holding off for an entire two weeks. i have the conviction of a wet paper towel.#lets see bk4 was described as - what? - an ''angst and smut pile''??#i am very much looking forward to this #i was promised a story with my snake boy #because i am very much not over zhuzhi-lang's fate so this had better be A REALLY NICE HAPPY ONE FOLKS #anyway have sqq and lbh cuddling and reading as i project on them #i like to assume that as time goes on sqq is able to relax his persona a bit more around lbh #i think he should get to cuddle and bitch about shitty novels #but man sqh is really the ONLY source of any books that have an even slightly modern cadence/style i have a feeling sqq would be very keen #though if i'm being honest i really wonder if sqh could ever bring himself to write fiction again #if you're A Writer it tends to be hard to RESIST you just get an itch to tell a story #but also like... the fear that all of this could happen again... or that the characters you're creating might be REAL and SUFFERING...#yeah... i honestly suspect he can't write anymore and that it honestly probably sucks a lot... but for the sake of this joke he is :P

got some more tiny paper to try out, so I painted a tiny Max F whilst catching up on his stream from the other day

A. Gallo watercolours + coloured pencil on Jacksons Two Rivers 300gsm paper, approx. 3.5" square

#he didn't turn out entirely how I'd planned but it was good practice #max fewtrell #max f #watercolour #quadrant #my art #my f1 art #adjacent anyway #the paper is 100% cotton of course but INCREDIBLY heavy sized #(ie a lot of like the binder that helps the paper resist turning into mush)#so it's weirdly resistant to water but can also handle a Lot #v fun experience #will not be buying full sheets though bc they're incredibly expensive #and a pack of three different weights of this size is 50p

on one hand, it's a magic notebook so i'd imagine it's at least slightly flame-resistant, or at least sturdy enough to the point where you could write 1 or 2 very Very basic sigils on it before the entire thing goes up in flames. on the other hand, setting your magic death notebook on fire in an attempt to write the language of the gods is the funniest possible way to lose death note privileges

You ever be totally immersed in a story and then you come across a line about a subject and you realize you know more about this subject than the author and what the author wrote down was completely wrong and it's not even that the author didn't do research so much as the author didn't even think this was something that even needed to be researched? And it drives you absolute cuckoo bananas?

#pretty sure vellum is pretty flame resistant since it's leather and not paper #why are you doing this to me Phong Nguyen #also I'm less clear on this point I'll have to look up the history of manuscripts but did first century Vietnam even have vellum books?#like Asia had access to tree paper well before Europe did i think parchment and vellum were European in nature #after the decline of the papyrus trade following the collapse of the Roman empire #and needing something that was more durable in wetter climates than the Mediterranean anyway #i know europe got tree paper from China (possibly via Türkiye? idr) but i don't know if europe exported vellum and parchment #given the advent of tree fiber paper in Asia it doesn't seem like there'd be much need for vellum manuscripts in 1 C.E Vietnam #*first century C.E not 1 C.E #wait a minute #did EUROPE even have vellum by First Century C.E??#i.. i have to go look this up now wtf...

Two versions of Paperman Wei Wuxian: digital drawing of the donghua version, and embroidered bookmark of CQL version. Im partial to the donghua version, (it's too freaking cute) but the cql version makes a really cute bookmark, though.
