Dealing with Panic Attacks: Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment | Solh Wellness
On occasion, everyone experiences anxiety, fear, or stress. It is a natural human reaction to scary or dangerous situations. However, some people worry more frequently than others for no apparent reason. Panic attacks can be unexpected and overwhelming. Knowing what to do when they occur can help to mitigate their impact or even end them.
The sudden onset of intense fear or nervousness is referred to as a panic attack. Terror and dread are usually unanticipated and out of proportion to any real threat or danger.
Panic attacks are typically brief. The effects of a panic attack, on the other hand, can last for several hours after the initial attack. Panic attacks are the most common symptom associated with a panic disorder diagnosis. However, they can be a symptom of a number of mood and anxiety disorders, as well as other illnesses. Panic attacks can also happen as a result of certain events or stressful situations.
Panic attacks can cause a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms.

Physical manifestations and symptoms may include:
Sweating
Rapid breathing
Pounding heartbeat
Here are some examples of emotional symptoms:
Feelings of fear and anxiety
Worrying that is both intense and repeated
A sense of impending disaster
Panic attack symptoms usually appear suddenly and peak within minutes. Following a panic attack, symptoms may disappear completely or the person may continue to feel anxious, potentially repeating the panic cycle.
Is every panic attack the same?
Not all panic attacks are created equal. The following is one classification for panic attacks:
Predicted panic attacks: These occur when a person is exposed to or preparing for a specific trigger. A person who is afraid of heights, for example, may have a panic attack inside a tall structure.
Situationally predisposed panic attacks: These attacks, like cued panic attacks, do not always occur in the presence of a feared scenario. Furthermore, these assaults do not always occur when the victim is close to the trigger. For example, a person who is afraid of flying may or may not experience panic attacks while in flight.
Uncued panic attacks: Panic attacks that occur unexpectedly and without warning are known as uncued panic attacks. These attacks have no external or internal cues.
Preventions
There are several ways to stop or control panic attacks:
Calming Techniques: Deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and meditation are all effective ways to reduce tension and promote relaxation. The use of these techniques on a regular basis can help to prevent panic attacks.
Physical Activities: Regular exercise can help reduce stress and anxiety, which are both common causes of panic attacks. Exercising can lower the risk of anxiety disorders and improve overall mental health.
Avoid potential triggers: Recognize and avoid situations or stimuli that could trigger a panic attack. Avoiding stressful or anxiety-inducing situations, as well as caffeine, alcohol, or specific medications, may be part of this.
Get enough sleep: Panic attacks are more likely when you don't get enough sleep. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule and get at least seven hours of sleep per night.
Self-care is essential: Eating well, exercising regularly, and participating in stress-relieving activities can all help to prevent panic attacks. Make your physical and mental health a priority, and seek help if necessary.
Treatment
Panic attacks can severely limit a panic disorder sufferer. They may, for example, spend a significant amount of time worrying about impending panic attacks and may even avoid situations and settings that they believe will increase their chances of having one.
Many panic disorder patients also feel lonely and isolated because they are embarrassed by their symptoms and are afraid that others will judge them harshly as a result of their panic symptoms.
There is no known cure for panic disorder, but there are numerous symptom management options. The most common options are to take a prescribed drug and/or to receive therapy. Most panic disorder patients will try both of these measures in addition to self-care activities.

Antidepressants and benzodiazepines are two panic disorder medications that can lessen the severity of panic attacks and other anxiety-related symptoms. Through psychotherapy, you can learn healthy coping mechanisms and how to deal with difficult emotions.
Professional therapy can benefit from your ability to confront or accept your anxious thoughts and emotions. In between sessions, Solh Wellness gives you a sense of empowerment in addition to the necessary tools and solutions.
Furthermore, our app assists you in developing healthy routines such as journaling, exercising, or meditating. We also protect people's privacy and confidentiality, providing a safe haven for those who are too embarrassed to admit they have mental health problems in public or are afraid of being stigmatised or negatively labelled by others.

How to Get Diagnosed with PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affects an estimated eight million adults annually in the United States. It's a serious condition that can cause intense fear and strong emotional responses to specific triggers. PTSD typically affects people after they experience a terrifying or dangerous event.
For example, many combat veterans develop PTSD after coming home from duty. People can also get PTSD after going through traumatic events like car accidents, shootings, etc. Even those who know someone close who's experienced something traumatic can exhibit PTSD symptoms.
It's a debilitating condition that can make living life normally feel impossible. Fortunately, there are many ways to treat it. But before you can seek treatment, you need to get a diagnosis.
The Diagnostic Process
Health care providers consider many facets of your mental health and behavior to diagnose PTSD. Generally, an individual must exhibit PTSD symptoms for over a month to meet the criteria. Those symptoms must also be severe enough to interfere with work, relationships and daily life.
PTSD often develops about three months post-trauma. However, everyone is different. This condition can also pave the way to other issues like substance abuse, depression and more. Getting a proper diagnosis is critical to begin treatment.
What are the Symptoms of PTSD?
For a provider to diagnose an individual with PTSD, they must exhibit symptoms for at least a month. Qualifying symptoms fall into four distinct categories.
The first category includes re-experiencing symptoms. That can include having flashbacks, recurring nightmares, troubling thoughts and more.
The second category of symptoms revolves around avoidance. That means that PTSD forces you to avoid people, places and events that remind you of the trauma you experienced. You may also avoid any emotions related to it.
Next includes arousal or reactive symptoms. Examples include being easily startled, having trouble concentrating on your work, exhibiting angry outbursts, engaging in reckless behavior, etc.
Finally, the last category covers overall mood and cognition. Symptoms in this category include losing interest in things you used to love, feelings of social isolation, ongoing negative emotions, trouble remembering the trauma's key details and more.

5 Simple Ways to End Anxiety and Panic Attacks
The single, most important thing that you need to know when you are suffering from a panic attack or general stress is how to breathe correctly. When we panic, our bodies naturally start to breathe incorrectly. Unfortunately, the more inefficient your breathing, the worse your fear becomes, and a vicious cycle of panic starts, leaving you feeling completely out of control.

1610: LOUD SIGH
42: rough day too huh?
1610, brushing debris off of his shoulder: yeeep. another run-in with the rhino. again.

42: man, what a mood.
1610: what happened to you? you look like you had a rougher day than me!

Psychotic System Culture is...
Hearing the screen door open, and "knowing" it's just your sibling coming in late, but the paranoia and psychosis won't leave you alone, so you're shaking and silently having a panic attack in your room because someone just broke into the house

Didn't felt like mentioning it immediately but shoutout to my sick and twisted brain for getting so triggered by an unexpected Christmas parade that I ended up havin the absolute worst panic attack of my entire life (potentially the only real one? I've had a couple other episodes I thought of as panic attacks but they were not even close to that so who knows) to the point where I spent the very last day of my 30th year on this earth in the ER, good times, good times 😊
#that was 10 days ago and i honestly was fine immediately after it ended so don't worry for me <3#but yeah this shit was crazy holy hell#like i knew intellectually that 'feeling like you're dying' is a symptom of a panic attack but *actually* feeling it is another thing...#and even at the worst i was like 'ok i'm clearly having a panic attack it's not nice but it's gonna be ok'#but there was a piece of my brain that was like 'ok but what if your mom or grandma had told themselves that...'#'when they were having heart attack? They would have died and so will you 😊'#and i was like shit can't argue with that better get my ass to the hospital before i die#spoiler alert: i didn't died#ironically enough the revolting state of our healthcare system is lowkey what helped me calmed the fuck down#because i was tiny but i do remember when my mom had her heart attack and they sure as hell didn't let her wait for 7h+#so when i realized that this is what was gonna happen after i spent a brief moment with a nurse i was just like...oh i'm fine actually lol#and then i had to go take the bus in my fake crocs that i usually never wear outside of the house smh#interestingly enough my phobia of hospital seems to have competely disappear! which makes me believe that it was more a trauma response#than an actual phobia#not that the name changes that much but still interesting development#also no i'm not wearing a mask because nobody gave me one#that's actually one of the thing that made me leave lmao#oh and btw the christmas parade is true but also a bit more complex than that#basically i had a full sleepless night and i was mad so i decided to go buy myself some weed#turned out that there was a huge christmas parade 5 minutes away from the weed store so i hade to find another way#and then i got lost on the way back#and saw no less than 3 big fights between different homeless people#including one man randomly kicking another man's dog (which kinda really messed with me tbh)#and then i smoked a big joint (first one in like 10 days) with 0 sleep and zero food in my body#and then i took the bus#and then the bus driver yelled at an elderly man for not waiting at the right place#and then i took a sip of water and for some truly strange reason my brain decided that the water had gone in my lungs#and that i was actively drowning#and the rational part of me was like...girl that's not what drowning feels like what are you even talking about??#and then my brain went 'well if we're not drowning than we're having a heart attack'
