oh em gee ceo of aaron minyard in my inbox so that's who i'll be answering for these ^-^
12. hc that is extremely real to me is aaron learning how to drive his 4th year at palmetto with kevin in the passenger's seat. he borrows abby's car to learn while on his permit, and there's no fucking way he's going to ask andrew or neil (embarrassment) or nicky (bad driver). so kevin is his last hope...it also leads to a whole month of insanity where aaron is like wow...i forgot how much of an asshole this guy is but by their 5th near death experience they're practically bonded for life.
21. okay i HAVE written aaron but only in fics that have yet to be published or finished...my bad....anyway my favorite thing to write for him is fights with neil. he's just the perfect mixture of aware and bitchy to get under neil's skin in a way no one else does. i have the most fun using their respective mother figures IN fights as a way to highlight their similarities as people. which they hate ^-^
25. first impression...i thought he was fucking hilarious and i still do. he's never going to be my favorite, but i can always appreciate a short man who's willing to fight and also be a bitch about it. i do think if i'd been introduced to aaron outside of neil's pov he would be one of my top characters of all time but because neil just does not gaf about him he's like my number 5 (lol) ranked aftg character

Hi! You guys are great! Are there any where the other Foxes or someone on the outside thinks Andrew is cheating on Neil or vice versa, but it's not true? Like, someone thinks they know more than they do, but Andrew and Neil are perfectly happy together. Not breakup fics, though. Thanks!

Lindsay what is all for the game about. Should i read it
Omg so it’s a self-published trilogy from the early-mid 2010s (with the first half of a sequel duology that came out this April) about mafia violence and a fictional lacrosse-like sport called exy. It follows a guy on the run from said mafia who goes to the fictional college Palmetto State University to play D1 exy.
Should you read it? If you’re looking for something fun with characters that make you insane, yes. It is not the most eloquently written series of all time. But as a fellow kotlc enjoyer I know we can both see past that to an extent lol
I like it, again, because of the characters, and because I am personally fascinated by the cultural differences of books written and set in the 2000s–early 2010s (AFTG is set in 2006–2007). Also because the exy teams of real colleges eventually get involved and the sequel that came out in April mayyyyy or may not take place at a school Very Familiar to yours truly.
I’m going to say please read it because I don’t actually have any other friends who have read it. It made me not study for my finals for several days because I was too engrossed with these damn books.
OH and I forgot to mention the audiobooks are free on Hoopla with a library card :)

He’s not been out of Evermore this long in years. Every day spent hidden in South Carolina is a day Riko will make him regret. Maybe he could’ve crawled back on his knees weeks ago, but Kevin can’t anymore. A week or two out could be considered an error, shock taking control of his actions. But over a month? It’s defiance. There is no going back now. Kevin just has to hope they won’t come get him. I don't normally post about my original work, but if I'm asked, I shall speak.
I have been working on Helpless since the beginning of my 9th grad school year. It's a series. A few years ago, my work was published through Palmetto Publishing.

Though, due to them being too apprehensive about having a gay protagonist, I cut ties with them.
I am now working with a publisher out of the UK. Olympia Publishing. I had a lot of other offers, but most of them were vanity publishers. With Olympia, I have all control of what is published.
I did a lot of revisions and book one will be coming out either late this year or early next. It will have a new cover with a different allure. Peep it:

Talon is a boy for sure. He's just graced with beauty. His mother is Aphrodite and his father is Saint Michael. He is the first son of an archangel and goddess. He's gentle and understanding, unlike his father. He spends his time with the garden angels and finds comfort in being outdoors. His father wants him to follow in his footsteps and lead the angelic army alongside him, but Talon doesn't like the idea of war. Pointless bloodshed saddens him and he doesn't understand why either side feels the need to battle over petty disagreements. I often describe him with feminine grace and appearance. He's soft spoken and dignified, but not to the point of arrogance. He is also the only angel in heaven with pink eyes. He's slender and he's 5'9" When I describe him, I mention that he sparkles in the sun like fresh snow. His father keeps him away from his mother so she doesn't influence him to step away from the path of an archangel. Talon is torn between making his father proud and doing what makes him happy. He doesn't want to be a warrior. He wants to work in the gardens.

This is some really old art I have of him. I have to work on some more now that I picked up a new program. The ginger is Fawn. She is Talon's best friend.
Aeshma is a Persian war demon from a place in hell called Khadah. A place in the circle of wrath. His parents are Amara and Angra Mainyu. Both of them are war demons as well. He was bred for battle, starting his training as soon as he could run. His kind have been at war with Michael for years and Angra makes Aeshma a commander in the demonic army. He's cocky but humble. It's very hard to get him to switch from soldier to young demon who wants to have fun. Aeshma is almost seven feet tall and built like a tank. Chocolate brown skin and jade green eyes. He's covered in battle scars. He makes his parents extremely proud. He's a ruthless killer who has taken down kingdoms without the aid of an army. So, when it comes to invading heaven, Aeshma is the one Angra can count on.

A meeting is called by Michael after he invades Khadah and kills Aeshma's sister. Angra accepts and brings a small group of demons with him.
Talon is forced to attend this meeting. None of the angels know that Angra's presence is only a distraction from Aeshma's attack. They don't want peace, they want revenge.
This attack leads to Aeshma breaking into Michael's house and stumbling across Talon. While other demons want to kidnap and sell Talon, Aeshma makes the decision to let him go. Talon is intrigued by Aeshma and even decides to accompany his father to hell where they sign a treaty.
I don't want to give away too much, I could talk for years about this, but I'll just give the basics for now.
Talon and Aeshma start to meet in private. In one of Heaven's abandoned gardens. Eden. Aeshma is there for information and Talon is there to get to know him.

Michael ends up finding out about what Talon has been doing and he imprisons Talon. Talon escapes and Michael's only option is to cast him down. He subdues Talon's angelic powers and strips him of his memory. He kills Talon and has him reborn to a human family. An abusive family that see him as evil because of his paper white skin and pink eyes. He was born to a twin brother, Tyler. Talon ends up with a red streak in his hair. Michael describes it as his physical scarlet letter. And his life will be nothing but pain and suffering.
That's what book one is about. Talon's life as a human. His battle with neglect, abuse and sexual assault. Living in a place where no one wants to help and no one cares. He finds peace in one human, who in fact isn't human. David.
Talon learns all about possessive behavior and psychological abuse without even realizing it until it's too late. He also doesn't realize he's being hunted. While it's subdued, demons and angels can smell Talon's power. Asmodeus and Samael included. He falls into the lust demon's grasp, lured in with the idea of revenge on the people who have hurt him.
All this leads into a hefty series of Talon finding out exactly who and what he is. Royal demon blood is blended with his angelic golden ichor, turning him into a hybrid. One of the most powerful weapons in all creation. And he is faced with a decision. Michael isn't the only angelic threat to Talon and his newfound family. It goes all the way up the political angelic ladder. Being a hybrid and possessing the blood of Michael, Talon is the only one who can bring him down.

The names took me forever. I have a shit ton of characters throughout the series. The Dictionary of Demons is a MAJOR life saver when it comes to name and even lore. It's a fantastic book and if you're writing about angels and demons, I seriously recommend it.

How We Are Saving Wild Florida

Saving our wild Florida is imperative to keeping what we love about the Nature Coast – coastal estuaries, wide open spaces, parks, preserves, farms and ranches – alive and available for us to enjoy now while conserving these lands for our children and grandchildren. As NatureCoaster’s publisher, I am passionate about connecting you with the beauty and energy of our forests, springs, fields and dreams through the written word and images. I hope that this will inspire you to get out and experience the magic of being in nature for yourself. While many of our readers, contributors, and partners work toward this goal, one organization stands out as a leader in the cause: the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation. It all started with a Biologist and a Bear At the onset of the breeding season in May 2010, a two-year-old male Florida black bear known as M34 began his journey from the south-central Florida oak scrub, across swamps, pine forests, and palmetto thickets in search of a mate, amidst central Florida’s development. M34’s nearly 500-mile roundtrip made Joe Guthrie notice. Joe is a wildlife biologist who caught and tagged the young bear in 2009. Joe wondered how wildlife could move through the myriad of roads, fences, and other human development that fragmented the little bear’s environment. Maximus is a baby bear rescued when his mother didn't make it to a wildlife crossing. He will reside at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park for the rest of his life. Image courtesy of Joe Dube. A Conservationist, Photographer, and Filmmaker Joined the Movement In 2012, Joe joined Mallory Lykes-Dimmitt, a conservationist, Carlton Ward, a photographer, and Elam Stoltzfus, a filmmaker for a four-person expedition to experience a 100-day, 1000-mile journey that wildlife would need to traverse to get from the Everglades to Georgia’s Okefenokee swamp. This journey was shared by millions in the film, “The Florida Wildlife Corridor: Everglades to Okeefenokee. Two years later, a second film was made called, “The Forgotten Coast: Return to Wild Florida,” with the same premise of experiencing the challenges of traversing wild lands while skirting human development. This film highlighted Florida’s west coast, including our Nature Coast. The films were shown in parks, at community gatherings, and eventually, they were aired on WTBS, Tampa’s Public television channel, and then nationally on public television. You can watch them on YouTube any time, and the fantastic visuals along with the simple message resonated with audiences. More films were made. Some were under two minutes, some twenty minutes, but all contained the same message, “We have an important mission and you can be a part of it.” The goal of encouraging people to get out and use the corridor became a part of the messaging. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBVREDcGa40 This short film was created to help legislators in Tallahassee understand the importance of a contiguous corridor of natural areas for Florida's wildlife. NatureCoaster was hired to help. NatureCoaster Assists in a Small Florida Wildlife Corridor Film In 2017, I worked with the Florida Wildlife Corridor on a very short film about the tiny black bear population that is isolated in the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. The film was created to help communicate to our legislators about the importance of funding critical linkages to open space. I thought I would be writing and it turned out I was assisting in connecting the organization with local organizations who would be able to help in locations and such. I also manned the table at the film’s screening at the Valerie Theatre in Inverness when a volunteer didn’t show up as expected. It wasn’t a high-paying or glamorous gig, but I learned so much about how groups can work together to influence those who have the power to make change. I learned about how little things influence big decisions, and I learned how our Nature Coast community unites behind a cause. Art is Valuable in Communication A mural was commissioned by the Foundation, created by Kelly Quinn, Art Director and Muralist with Canvas of the Wild at 35 NE 5th Street in Crystal River, that features species native to the local ecosystem, including Florida black bears, roseate spoonbills and, of course, manatees. Another reason I believe the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation has made such progress is its recognition of the value of art in communication. A mural campaign has been initiated, with two of those connecting murals in our local communities: Crystal River and Brooksville. “The murals help to connect us with the Corridor,” explains Mallory Lykes-Dimmitt, the Foundation’s CEO. Image by Diane Bedard. 2021 Brings The Florida Wildlife Corridor Act Several years later, after decades of work from conservationists, scientists, politicians, and many others, the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act was signed into law following unanimous bipartisan support by the Florida legislature on June 29, 2021. This act provided funding for the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, which held its first summit in September of 2022. Representatives from several land trusts, conservation organizations, the Florida Department of Transportation, legislators, scientists, ranchers, and data scientists gathered to chart a path forward. One of the things that I have really admired about the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation is its attitude that everyone, including businesses, governments, scientists, developers, ranchers and farmers, and community groups want to be part of the solution. This has encouraged large-scale solutions with buy-ins from diverse groups, making a stronger conservation movement. By Working Together, We Can Find Solutions I was invited to the first Florida Wildlife Corridor Summit in Orlando in 2022. At this inaugural event, I rubbed elbows with a diverse group of nature lovers committed to working together to manage Florida’s massive development activity to preserve contiguous green space for our State’s diverse flora and fauna – and humans - to not only survive but thrive. Multi-generational ranchers, subdivision designers and developers, cinematographers, and artists joined land trust and nature preserve managers, conservationists, biologists, map makers, State legislators, and me. What did we all have in common? A desire to preserve a contiguous tract of 18 million acres of Florida land to provide a safe corridor for our keystone species, like panthers and black bears, and for our lesser known, but just as valuable species like the Florida leafwing butterfly to thrive. At times, they seemed to be stepping on other conservation organizations in Florida, but this was not their goal. The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic
Summary
Neil Josten loves nothing more than Exy, a relatively new sport that's taking the world by storm. So much so that when the infamous Palmetto State Foxes offer him a spot on their team he accepts, even though the spotlight is the last place he should be. With a vengeful mafia boss father on his trail and teammates that seem more suited to psych wards than the court, it's not his best decision, but it may turn out to be worth it in the end.

God, the plot of this book. It's so hard to explain. Neil ran away from his mafia boss father, The Butcher, with his mom years ago. She died in their initial escape, and he's been friendless, homeless, and miserable since. Despite knowing his father in hunting him down, Neil makes the excellent decision of playing for the most infamous Exy college team out there. Sakavic really sells how obsessed he is with this sport because literally any sane person would be out of there, especially considering the way his teammates treat him.
Anyway, most of the book is Neil trying to figure out his teammates while training his ass off while also realizing he's in much deeper than he thought. This book reads less like book one and more like part one as pretty much...nothing happens? And yet everything happens because these people are crazy and somehow Exy is well-known for being primarily enjoyed by members of the mafia. The mafia part of the story seems to serve one purpose: making it feasible that the most batshit insane things happen in the lives of fancy lacrosse players. For example, major character Kevin Day used to play for the Ravens with his adoptive brother Riko, who happens to be a part of the yakuza. Riko breaks Kevin's hand and Kevin escapes to the Foxes where most of the conflict is caused by his history with Riko and the Ravens. When I tell you people are getting drugged, murdered, and threatened on live television, I am not exaggerating. It has virtually no coherency, but at least it's fairly compelling. Bonus points for a crazy development at the end.

Neil, the main character, is an absolute idiot. It is somewhat forgivable by the virtue that the story makes no efforts to make him seem like anything else. He's an Exy-obsessed fanatic who is willing to risk exposure and all the implied torture to follow to play on a college team that isn't even that good—in fact, they're infamously bad. While I liked the (crazy, twisted, toxic) relationships he was building with the other characters, I wish he had more autonomy instead of just doing what the other characters demanded of him.
Speaking of, not all the batshit in this book comes from the mafia; Andrew Minyard is sometimes more antagonistic than they are. Constantly on anti-psychotics (going off them will get him thrown in jail), in a codependent relationship with Exy superstar Kevin Day, and has a habit of drugging people to get them to spill their secrets, Andrew is one of the craziest written characters I have ever encountered. He does so much morally reprehensible stuff that he'll do something only morally questionable and it's like he's saved an orphan. Same thing as the plot; not very well written but interesting nonetheless.
Completing the trifecta is Kevin Day, Andrew's constant companion. He's the catalyst for most of the conflict in this book, and he was apparently childhood friends with Neil, who is now obsessed with him, almost as much as he is with Exy. The three of them are a recipe for disaster, but it's the kind you can't tear your eyes away from. Do with that what you will, because even I'm not sure how I feel about it. I will say that each character seems to have a distinct, clear personality; it was rare I got characters mixed up. Even Andrew and Aaron, identical twins, are very easy to distinguish.

This book is self-published and, unfortunately, it shows. As crazy and attention-grabbing as the plot and characters are, it can't hide the mediocre, sometimes outright bad, writing. In fact, sometimes it exacerbates it. With how this book jumps from shocking moment to shocking moment and the fluctuation between incredibly slow and almost-too-fast, it's jarring and not entirely enjoyable for the reader. It feels like Sakavic wanted to write a bunch of different tropes and set-ups, and instead of writing a few different books she decided to shove them all into one. The character backstories in particular feel like trauma upon trauma just piled on top of each other, leading to a list of trigger warnings a mile long. As such, the whole book feels very cobbled-together and poorly written.

Would I say I liked this book? Probably not. Am I intrigued? Absolutely. Despite the writing being not very good at all and a plot that is held together by the most frayed, worn strings of logic in existence, this is an attention-grabbing book. In all honesty, I will never recommend this series to anyone ever because it is truly bad, but I will probably read the rest of the trilogy. Why? I really couldn't tell you. I am undeniably interested in this book, mainly the character relationships. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. So concludes the most chaotic review I've ever written.

📚 Review 📚 Wheel of the Year: The Age of Stone
I went into Wheel of the Year: The Age of Stone full of hope and anticipation - and I was not disappointed. The Age of Stone is a vibrant beginning to the Wheel of the Year trilogy, and you better believe I’ll be reading the rest of this series.
As the description implies, this novel has two main perspectives/timelines. We have Ailsa in the far past and Edie in the present. The two stories play wonderfully against one another (though Ailsa’s story stole my heart, I’m not ashamed to admit that).
The Age of Stone is rich and complex, full of lore, history, and human emotion. Yes, there’s also magic and intrigue, making it the perfect balance for many readers (especially those who like a little bit of fantasy in their history).
There’s a lot to love about The Age of Stone, but the biggest selling point is how human it is. The novel tries (and succeeds) to drive one point home—that certain human struggles are timeless. We all desire to find a balance in our lives, but many of us struggle with all that is asked of us, be it a historical exploration or a magical undertaking.
I’m trying to say that Wheel of the Year: The Age of Stone is a fantastical novel that is absolutely worth reading. It transported me to another world and stole my heart in the process.

Jim Overstreet is a lifelong cowboy and author of A Montana Rivalry. Raising horses for most of his life, he earned multiple titles in tie down roping, from youth rodeo to the senior circuit. As an accomplished writer, his work has been published in national magazines including Reader’s Digest, Persimmon Hill and numerous equine magazines, including Western Horseman. Jim rode horses before he could walk. We are celebrating our launch with a 15 act festival featuring some of New York's best artists, as well as three previews of our free workshop courses starting this Fall.
All of this is going down Saturday June 29th at Party Connection on Woodward Ave in Ridgewood btwn Gates and Palmetto. Come and stop by anytime from noon to midnight because we will be there all day, and nobody is turned away due to lack of funds! This is the climax of our inaugural fundraising drive lasting the month of June, so instead of selling tickets we are inviting anyone who wants to come on over and pay what you can. Sign-up for a monthly membership too! Mostly, we want to greet our neighbors and show them what we can do together.

We achieve this by publishing 3 guidebooks with 3 corresponding workshops about conceiving of, preparing for, and successfully running your own event. Those who complete all three workshops get to join a collective of people with access to the production equipment TSU rents at no-cost for collective members, as well as one-on-one guidance from a selection of different mentors. Collective membership is limited to a maximum of two years.
Registration for our Fall workshops along with the first editions of guidebooks goes live later this Summer, but if you want to be first notified about sign-ups you can pre-register using this form.
