just enough salt to fill the cellar
getting just enough of something feels like a kind of faith that i will be able to find more of what i need when the time comes. maybe this is what it means for me most of the time. something about trusting myself in a material way in the face of uncertainty
it feels like a kind of protest against the hoarding impulse at the heart of this system. i am resisting, in the language of the system, the overconsumption that defines and sustains it
but sometimes when i get just enough and no more i know it is a lack of faith in the future itself. an expression of doubt, measured in cups and ounces, that there will be enough time left to use even this amount, never mind bothering to get any more

Submitted propaganda and media below the cut:
Bread products (All of them)
"Any food made with some form of bread. I mean, aren't those usually the best? Sandwiches, pizzas, muffins, french toast, garlic bread…They're all so good. Heck even bread itself is good!"
"I love bread"

one time i joked about writing a Garak/O'Brien fic just for the palindrome... ("Miles/Elim" spells the same backward and forward if you ignore punctuation, which is the usual accepted rule for palindromes)
but then i was like. Why would these two do anything together?
What would they ever find that they have in common?
and then i realized
The thing they have in common
is another palindrome:
...
nail u, julian
...

J.M. Hurowitz - Untitled - 2024 - pencil on paper - 30 x 22.5 inches
Finally completed this piece after a lengthy hiatus. It's full of "Easter eggs" and various references to current events. The QR code is drawn and works. Have fun exploring.

More palindrome stuff I hadn't posted! Age charts for palindromes and phonies. Soon after they're born, phonies squish under gravity and begin to look more horseylike. Whichever set of legs happens to be on top most often quickly atrophy and lock together into something that looks more like the rays of a fish's fins.

Last night I revisited John Greaves and Peter Blegvad’s magnificent 1977 album, Kew Rhone, for the first time in years. It’s still as beguiling as ever.
For me the highlight is the title track. The lyrics in the first half are comprised of words using only the letters of KEW RHONE (“when we knew no woe, when we were her hero” etc), while the second half is based around a long palindrome: “Peel’s foe, not a set animal, laminates a tone of sleep.”
Of course, I wouldn’t care much about all that if the music wasn’t also totally gorgeous.

The sentence “fuck off” is almost a palindrome.
Almost.
But also not.

When he stumbled onto the book “An Almanac of Words at Play” that Duncan realized words could go backwards. The discovery, which he made in the early 1980s, set him on a course he would follow for decades. For fun, and then out of habit, he began reversing words he saw in print, noticing words that took on new meaning when flipped, and writing sentences that could be read backward and forward — palindromes.
Today Duncan, who works as a staff member here at the MIT Press Bookstore in Kendall Square, has developed a reputation as a professional palindromist. His creations have been featured in galleries, selected anthologies, and are the subject of an upcoming documentary. He’s written 800-word epics that don’t lose their meaning when flipped. He’s written reversible poems and tributes that were used as auction prizes. And he’s written countless palindromes to serve as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions.
Mostly, though, Duncan just writes palindromes for fun.
