series masterlist • next part
I wasn't sure about posting this but if you like the story I will continue with it, it all depends on how you receive it😬
in case you like it, I want to advance that the story will be a kind of forbidden love by the fact of rich and poor hehe and I have a lot prepared, basically everything is already written, I just need to structure it in a better way
this has only been an introduction to the world of Sunset's Bay, so I hope you enjoy it and the warnings will be added as I post the chapters if you like it🤗
so enjoy!
Sunset's Bay.
The hidden but mostly inhabited beach on the California Coast, with golden and white sands that slide into crystal clear waters of such a deep blue that it seems infinite.
According to Google, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Northern California and where teenagers living in surrounding cities yearn to come every time a new summer begins.
Sunset and sunrise on these waters are beautiful, as they transform the horizon into a palette of vibrant colors, from warm shades of gold and pink to soft purple and the deep blue of night.
Every summer, the beach comes alive with exciting surfing tournaments, as well as Sunset's Pier, the midpoint of the beach where everyone mingles, transforms into charity events with live music, fireworks and lamp shows that illuminate the night with a mesmerizing light show.
Boat and yacht rides add a touch of sophistication to the coastal scene. This allows tourists to explore the waters beyond the beach, visit small islands up close and enjoy the serenity of the open sea.
But on top of all that, everything is meticulously maintained, most of it, like the clean, spacious beaches, adorned by palm trees swaying gently in the sea breeze.
And your favorite section, the volcanic stone cliffs that are distributed in specific locations on the beach, offering rocky walls as you sit on the seashore behind you and all around, emerging as natural guardians of the beach.
And from their heights, you can take in panoramic views of all the beauty of the landscape, encompassing the vast endless ocean and coastline to the endless horizon.
You always looked forward to coming here as a child when a new term at school ended and your mother was always willing to come and spend the vacations with your relatives, the Blackwoods.
They always welcomed you and your mother and together with your cousin Alysanne, you had an amazing summer.
Ever since you were little, you have always been tattooed with the memory of the sand on your feet, the salt air in your nostrils, the water enveloping you completely and the sun in full sunset caressing your whole face as you watched it on the horizon starting to descend on the shore of the beach with the cliffs behind you.
And now, that's all you know, a life in Sunset's and your frequent days at the beach.
Living with your aunt and uncle and Alysanne in a house big enough to also make room for you on the beach shore, this has been your home for exactly a year now.
And now summer has begun.
"Sam has sent a message."
You raise your gaze to Alysanne as you finish cleaning one of the tables.
"He says to meet him at the beach with the others in the evening. Do you want to go?"
You place a small smile on your lips.
"Sure."
"Table nine!"
You both turn your heads toward your boss, who looks at both of you as if he wants to kill you at any moment, and you quickly rush to serve the food, briefly wiping the sweat from your brow to keep working.
"Hurry up, Blackwood," Mr. Frey tells you reluctantly as you begin to pick up the orders on the tray.
You let out a long breath and glance at the clock briefly before going to serve, realizing that you will have to put up with this for four more hours and for the rest of the summer as well.
Unfortunately you and Alysanne have to work, as it has been for some months now at a seafood restaurant where the 'rich' people from this side of the city come to enjoy the delicious food.
And because of the summer, the work has increased. But that doesn't stop them both from having fun now that summer has begun.
So as soon as you and Alysanne finish your shift, you head home as soon as possible and start getting ready to meet your friends at the beach.
Previously going out and having fun was a problem for Alysanne's parents, your aunt and uncle were not the liberal type, but as soon as you both started working and helping them with the household expenses with what you could, they started to be more permissive and understanding.
And this is your home, the less ostentatious side of the city, but still genuine.
Once you join Sam and all the boys on the beach, you head for the small boat floating near the shore.
It is not a luxurious boat, much less can it be compared to a boat or yacht of the latest model, but it is a modest boat that has seen many summer seasons.
And it has taken them all to many spots on the beach and you have shared many anecdotes on it.
And as the boat glides through the calm waters, you and Alysanne enjoy the laughter and stories shared by the boys from the neighborhood, Sam, Daniel and Chase.
The three of them have been childhood friends of Alysanne's and when you came to live with her officially, she introduced you to them and now you all have formed a group of friends where you enjoy afternoons like these with Sam's boat and where you also go swimming and surfing all together.
The sea breeze caresses your faces and the sun slowly begins to descend as it paints the sky in warm golden tones, until the afternoon turns into night.
And on the beach, with a campfire in the center, the starry sky above and all together in a circle, you start burning marshmallows and drinking beer.
"And tell us..." speaks Daniel, watching you both curiously, "How about the slave life for the rich people?"
You and your cousin let out a small laugh.
"Slaves?" you repeat amused.
"Well yeah, come on, you said your boss... what's his name? Grey? Payne?"
"Frey," Alysanne corrects him.
"Yeah, that," he points to her, "He's a jerk or not?"
"And no concept of patience and prudence," you add.
"I imagine the ones who eat there are worse, no?" asks Chase.
Daniel snaps his fingers at him.
"Lannister?"
"Oh yeah, definitely. Jason Lannister has that vibe."
"I put him in the top one of the most hated, along with the Baratheons. And I have a feeling the Arryns do too, I don't know why," Daniel again looks at you both, "Right?"
"You work for them," Alysanne tells him amused, "Don't you know that?"
"Well, it's not like they can tell me much for cleaning their boats and yachts but... no–they're extremely nice, though..." he holds up his finger with a thoughtful expression, "Though I think there must be something wrong with them."
Alysanne lets out a snort.
"They're rich and live at Crown's, practically owning all the establishments on the beach just like the Lannisters, Baratheons, Tyrells and others leaving nothing for us, the poor ones, because they despise us," she says with an ironic but true tone "Of course there must be something wrong with them."
"One time one of them didn't leave me a tip," you say, remembering, "The Tyrell's."
Sam looks at you amused.
"Tips are not obligatory."
"Oh come on," you retort, with a touch of irony, "They're rich, they can have yachts and mansions, but can't they at least give me a five percent tip?"
"Yet it's not obligatory."
Everyone lets out a laugh.
"Yeah, it's not the nicest place to work and the customers aren't necessarily nice but the pay is good, after all," Alysanne says as she shrugs.
And that's true.
Even though it's not a good work environment, the necessity is what makes you not quit and endure as much as you can. Even though your aunt and uncle are taking care of you and taking responsibility for you, you know you can't continue that way forever.
You want to be independent, pay for your own things, especially you want to pay for college, but to do that, you have to work and now this is the job.
Besides it's useless to find work elsewhere when the owners are still the same; rich and arrogant. And you can't find work on your side of the city because the pay won't be much or maybe they won't even hire because they can't afford it.
But right now, being here enjoying the summer with your friends and your cousin, you allow yourself not to think about it and just continue to criticize the rich people.
And after many cans of beer, Chase picks up his guitar and you all together start singing in the most off-key and horrible way possible, laughing amongst everyone with the jokes filling the air, just like the heat of the flames and the aroma of roasting marshmallows.
"You had a party and didn't invite me!?"
Almost everyone together turns their heads unexpectedly toward the approaching outside voice laden with amusement and mild reproach.
And then they all see Cregan Stark with a huge grin and a bottle of beer in hand.
The guys soon start showing off at the mere sight of him, making jokes and greeting him with great enthusiasm, as Cregan greets them.
And you just watch Alysanne with a sly smile, amused by Cregan's sudden appearance, but of course, she quickly hides all traces of whatever her reaction is to seeing him, adjusting her expression to one of neutrality as she tries to appear disinterested.
But you know.
And you're amused at how she acts as if you don't know her.
Cregan Stark is the spoiled son of one of the wealthiest families in Sunset's, living in one of the most exclusive areas on the Crown's side.
His appearance reflects his status; brand name clothes, really expensive accessories, late model car and an attitude that denotes familiarity with luxury. However, despite his wealth, Cregan has proven to be different from other boys in his social environment.
Although he has access to all the luxuries, he does not carry with him the air of superiority and arrogance that many would expect from someone like him and that those of his class usually display.
In fact, Cregan became friends with Chase, who works for his family in the ports.
And it was Chase who introduced him to the group and although at first no one felt confident with him, Cregan instead of imposing his status, imposed a genuine and friendly demeanor that won the friendship of everyone in the circle.
Later everyone understood that he doesn't really enjoy being with people from the same environment as himself. The wealthy teenagers he usually hung out with, for the most part, were overly judgmental and arrogant.
So thanks to Chase, he found company with all of you, the guys from across the city who don't have a mansion and all the money in the world, but who are genuine and free of pretense.
Despite the looks people give Cregan for not understanding his choice of company, he deliberately ignores them. His parents don't say anything to him either, although he says they clearly prefer that he stop interact with you.
"I am deeply, intensely and extremely offended," he says expressing mock indignation, holding a hand to his chest, watching you incredulously but amused.
"Come on, man, don't get dramatic," Chase tells him giving him a friendly tap on the shoulder.
"Yeah, we're just getting warmed up," Sam encourages him.
"Besides..." says Daniel, in an exaggerated tone, "We can't send messages across the beach, us poor people have to use carrier pigeons like the olden days to get anything to you, but guess what... we're so poor we can't even afford pigeons."
Everyone lets out a laugh, enjoying Daniel's humor in implying the differences between the poor and the rich on the beach.
"Stop, seriously, why didn't you guys tell me you were doing this?" Cregan asks, taking a seat on the logs.
"I heard there's a party on your side of the beach and I figured you'd be heading over there," Chase tells him, "Which you did, didn't you?" he points to the beer in his hand.
He lets out a long breath.
"Yeah but it was pretty fucking boring."
"Boring?" you repeat incredulously, "A party with a DJ, champagne and yachts I highly doubt is boring."
"Well, not that it wasn't fun," he says looking around and observing everyone, "But I wanted this, to be with you guys, the atmosphere."
"And how did you know we were here?" asks Alysanne curious.
"I didn't exactly know," he smiles at her, "So I just decided to come and try my luck."
"Oh man, stop it or you'll make me cry," Daniel jokes, holding a hand to his heart.
"He loves us, doesn't he?" asks Sam, with a smirk.
"Yeah, he definitely loves us."
Everyone laughs and you watch discreetly as he and Alysanne start throwing their little looks at each other.
"Party with DJ and yachts? Man, if I were you, I'd be enjoying that," Sam confesses, shaking his head in a gesture of incomprehension.
"It's not big deal and people are hateful, believe me."
No one argues with him about that but you too sometimes wish you could have fun like that, have the experience of going to a beach party like the rich kids in the movies, just once.
But the time will come, someday, there are still many summers left to enjoy.
The conversation flows as the boys settle around the campfire, the warmth of the fire contrasting with the cool night breeze blowing in from the sea.
The atmosphere is filled with laughter and banter, and the relaxed beach setting becomes the perfect backdrop for a night of genuine camaraderie.
Cregan, with his carefree and genuine attitude, seems to fit right in with all fo you and that he values sincere company over superficial luxury.
And you don't know exactly how much more time passes or how many beers that Daniel brings back the theme of the rich party on the other side of the beach.
"Hey, Cregan," he says, leaning forward with a mischievous expression, "Since you're here, why don't you take us to that party? I'm sure it's not as bad as you say."
Cregan raises an eyebrow, amused but surprised.
"What?"
Something about Daniel's words clicks in everyone's head, even yours, so you quickly exchange glances with Alysanne. And Cregan notices how everyone starts to truly consider it.
"Do you guys really want to go to that party?"
"And why not?" asks Alysanne, with an grin, "I'm sure we can have fun, even if we're not part of the rich circle."
"Yeah, and besides..." adds Sam, with a persuasive tone, "It would be interesting to see what the other side of the city is like from the inside. We've never been to a party like this."
Cregan seems to think about it for a moment, looking at the boys with a mixture of doubt and amusement.
"Seriously you guys are telling me this? The rich haters?"
You shrug.
"The rich hate us too."
"And that's precisely why we want to go," Sam says, gesturing animatedly, "We want to try something different. And who knows, maybe we'll give you a good reason to have a little more fun at that party. Right, Chase?"
Everyone looks at Chase, who shrugs.
"I guess that wouldn't be bad."
"But you haven't thought this through," Cregan insists, "As soon as they see you all, they'll know you're not like them."
Everyone looks at themselves and well... he's right.
The rich, especially those who are the same age as you, have a radar to recognize someone who is just like them... or not.
But you don't blame them, since you have them too, the difference is that you don't make disgusted faces or criticize in whispers as soon as you notice.
You notice your two-piece bikini top is wrinkled and is clearly second hand, besides your worn-out sandals. Alysanne is also in the same condition as you and the boys... well, they're worse.
Sam's shirt is torn, Chase's is torn, and the clothes are visibly secondhand.
"We have better clothes at home," you tell Alysanne and she nods.
"And we take our shirts off and stay in shorts," Daniel says, in solution, "Are we at the beach or not?"
"And if something goes wrong, we can always run out and come back here," Alysanne suggests.
Everyone nods and basically watches Cregan with puppy dog eyes, hopeful that he will take you to his kind of people.
"What do you think, Cregan?"
Cregan is silent for a few seconds, his gaze sweeping over the group around him, analyzing and thinking about all the things that could go wrong. And he doesn't pass up the abandoned cat look that Daniel and Sam throw at him.
And finally, he lets out a laugh and a resigned sigh.
"All right, all right. I'll take you. But if we have a bad time, don't say I didn't warn you."
"That's what I like to hear!" exclaims Sam, raising his arms in victory.
"We won't regret it."
"We may not but the rich will."
"Thanks, Cregan," says Alysanne, patting him on the back.
You frown as you watch her gesture and also notice Cregan's confused look for a moment, but go back to watching the boys.
"Well, then let's go before I change my mind."
You put out the campfire, pick up the trash and with laughter they all very animatedly walk away from your spot on the beach, heading first towards the trash cans and then towards Cregan's car.
"You do know Cregan likes you, don't you?" you say to Alysanne, walking a little further away from the guys.
She gives you an incredulous look.
"What?"
"Oh come on and you like him too, don't deny it."
"Of course I don't."
"Of course you do."
"You're crazy."
"And you won't stand a chance if you keep treating him like just a dude."
"Oh yeah, yeah, whatever you say."
You let out a laugh, understanding that it will be difficult for her to accept and share it with you, so you give her time. The guys behind you laugh too, with the echo fading into the salty air, leaving the sea breeze and the sound of the waves behind.
The difference in locations is completely noticeable.
You leave behind the small wooden houses, the unkempt streets, the establishments where you and your friends can shop, the bicycles and old cars, to move to large neighborhoods with green grass, trees and bushes on every corner with huge luxurious houses, almost mansions with modern cars and expensive decorations.
The guys are excited and so are you, as you have never explored these sections of the beach before, which are completely exclusive and with access for the rich people.
Obviously there are entrances with booths and security guards, so Cregan's appearance alone proves he's a Stark and he's allowed in without objection.
And soon enough, you arrive at the party.
"Oh my goodness, look at this," exclaims Alysanne, wide-eyed as she takes in the scene.
"That's a Prestige F4?" asks Sam in surprise, eyeing the luxurious yacht in the distance.
"Seriously, how much money do these people have?" mutters Daniel, in shock.
"More than you'll ever have," Alysanne tells him with a smirk as you all walk onto the beach illuminated by the party lights.
"You don't know that," Chase replies to her, pretending to be offended, "Maybe someday I'll get rich and buy one of those," he points to the yachts.
"I'm very offended that you didn't invite us to your parties sooner," Daniel says to Cregan, putting a hand to his chest as if he were badly wounded, "How could you hide all this from us?"
"Don't draw too much attention to yourselves, guys," Cregan asks with a mixture of concern and amusement in his voice.
"We won't," says Sam, "We'll just enjoy ourselves apart from the others but inside, you get it?"
The music starts to get louder and soon enough, we are inside the party.
Blue and purple neon lights illuminate the white sand, creating a dazzling contrast against the night sky. Waves break gently on the shore, almost muted by the music vibrating through the air.
There is indeed a DJ from a raised platform and most of the people here dance in the center to the music, some with cocktails in hand, bottles of champagne or recording the moment on their phones.
Near the dock, several luxurious yachts are docked, all decorated with lights flashing to the rhythm of the music. There are people inside them, enjoying the party from right there.
Some people get off the yachts to join the party on the beach, while others stay on board, enjoying the view and the exclusivity it offers.
If not beer, there is a bar offering a variety of exotic drinks and gourmet appetizers, such as sushi, caviar and canapés.
And throughout the party, groups of people are spread out, chatting animatedly, laughing, toasting and dancing. There are also party games, such as beer pong and spin the bottle.
While others gather around improvised campfires farther away near the sea, where the atmosphere is more relaxed, watching the spectacle around them.
The air is permeated with the smell of sea salt mixed with expensive perfumes and the sound of laughter and music all along the beach.
It is a party that clearly reflects the wealth and status of their hosts, as well as the people present; pure spoiled kids with rich parents.
"Are we going to have fun or what!?" exclaims Sam excitedly, fully entering the party and everyone follows.
Chase convinces Cregan to be worrying since most of the people here are in their own world and he doubts drunkenly checking to see if they have the latest model Iphone or what.
And honestly you relax too as everyone here is having fun and you along with Alysanne look more presentable in nice bikinis.
They are second hand still but they are more cared for than the others you have.
Sam quickly orders drinks, surprised and excited to have gotten a bottle of champagne, then Cregan and the others take him and you and Alysanne to a more secluded spot.
You make a space for yourselves on the sand, a bit secluded from everyone, having the view of the huge luxurious houses, the cliffs in the distance and also the illuminated yachts on the dock behind you.
Pretty soon you have your beer and start enjoying yourselves just like everyone else, not worrying too much and just pretending you are one of them all.
Mingling with the rich at Sunset's pier is one thing, since the pier is the center of the entire beach and there are no prejudices there, but now pretending to be one is completely different.
You find yourself watching everyone around you when Alysanne nudges you slightly and points her gaze to a specific spot.
"Look at that."
You follow her gaze and see a group of girls.
"That bracelet is from Pandora, I saw it on Instagram."
From here you can see how their gold and silver necklaces and bracelets sparkle. Also the bikinis they have on are beautiful, certainly brand name. There is also a girl with a Guess bag and they all have the latest Iphone model in their hand.
And you turn to Alysanne with a shrug.
"Why are we judging when it should be the other way around?"
"We're not judging, we're just noticing the differences between girls like them and girls like us."
You both let out a laugh.
"You definitely want that Pandora bracelet, don't you?" you look at her amused.
"And you don't?"
The two of you continue to observe or rather admire all those rich girls who have fancy accessories when suddenly you hear a specific boast behind you.
You turn your head and see the dock, noticing how some impeccably dressed people are boarding one of the larger yachts docked near the shore.
And there they are.
You think as you make out those distinctive black, red and silver hair.
Of course they couldn't miss a party like this, the sons of the most influential families in the city, the Lannister's, Baratheon's and Targaryen's, practically the elite of Sunset's.
You've seen Cerelle, Tyshara and Loreon Lannister before on the Sunset's Pier, their red hair gives away who they are instantly. They always brag about their luxurious yachts, cars, jewelry stores and everything else they own.
Their father, Jason Lannister, has built an empire based on shipbuilding and port development.
From what you understand, his company designs and manufactures some of the most advanced and exclusive ships for the world's elite.
In addition to this, Lannister also owns a network of ports and shipyards on several coasts, allowing him to maintain a steady flow of wealth through port fees and contracts with global corporations.
This influence has given him a prominent place among the city's powerful and his family has inherited not only his fortune, but also his imposing and domineering character.
So it is no surprise that the Lannister's are typical spoiled children with clearly very wealthy parents, as are the others, especially the Baratheon's, Cassandra, Maris and Floris.
Known as much for their tanned skin and peculiar dark hair as for their arrogant attitude, they always seek to be the center of attention at any such social event.
Cassandra, the eldest, has a dominant bearing and never misses an opportunity to show off her status. She is also the best known of the daughters to go out every now and then with a boy from an important family either from the city or abroad.
Next, there is Maris, the quietest of the three and the most reserved, but still, as you have heard, just as spoiled and boastful as her older sister.
And finally, Floris, Cerelle's best friend and supposedly the most arrogant, capricious, shallow and boastful of the three.
She is the one who seems the sweetest at first glance, but her spoiled nature soon becomes evident when something doesn't go her way.
You also know that there are two other children, a daughter and a son, Ellyn and Royce, but apparently Ellyn prefers to stay at home and Royce does not live here.
Her father, Borros Baratheon, is a most important and influential shipping magnate and merchant in the region, known for his connections with outside businessmen.
He owns one of the largest commercial fleets operating along the entire Pacific coast. You don't know exactly what it's about but the guys have talked about how his company specializes in logistics and shipping goods across the ocean or something like that.
And finally, the sons of the most powerful family in the entire city and the entire country, the Targaryen's.
Viserys Targaryen is known as the most powerful man in the entire country and by extension his entire family as well. He owns one of the largest and most influential corporations in the region.
Your uncle Ben always had a kind of admiration for him, though your aunt always expressed her dislike of him, as well as the other families, for simply being other greedy money-rotters who drive up the costs of the city for all that they invest to elevate their status and leave you poor people increasingly difficult to make a living.
You honestly couldn't agree with her more, but the Targaryen's have been forging their main empire here in Sunset's for a very long time now and there is nothing that can really be done about it.
The Targaryen business empire focuses on multiple sectors, but they are best known for owning a very prestigious bank, where they serve wealthy elites and large corporations, as well as financing large scale projects, such as real estate developments, technology or even public infrastructure.
You understand that he has built and manages shopping malls, corporate skyscrapers and exclusive developments in major cities across the country, as well as high profile tourist destinations like Sunset's.
So basically all of them and him especially have total control over the financial resources of the region, as well as infrastructure and development in the most luxurious sectors.
Although Viserys and his wife Alicent are no longer seen as much at events this side of Crown's and on the pier, their influence still shapes everything that happens here.
"Hey."
Sam snaps you out of your thoughts when you feel him tap you on the shoulder and you turn your head towards him, confused and attentive.
"Hm?"
"What are you looking at?" he asks you amused, sitting down next to you and offering you a new bottle of beer.
"Oh, no, nothing, just..." you shake your head, taking the beer and not paying attention to the son's and daughter's of rich parents.
But Sam had followed your gaze before.
"I know, they're beautiful, aren't they?"
You immediately watch him intently.
"Who?"
"The yachts," he tells you as if it's obvious, "Imagine spending a whole weekend on one, just doing this..." he points to the beer and all the partying, "In the middle of the ocean."
You let out a small laugh.
"That's your biggest dream, isn't it?"
"And for the yacht to be mine, obviously," he says excitedly, turning his gaze back to the dock where they all are, "If I used to see them from afar and feel envious, now it's torture to have them so close."
You look to where he sees and he has a very good point. They could live perfectly well on one of those yachts and there would be no problem, which is also one of your dreams.
"Oh, come on Sam," you give him a friendly smack, looking at him again and you notice the gleam of longing in his eyes, "Surely your charm can make a girl from Crown's fall in love with you and let you enjoy the amazing yachts."
He looks at you incredulously.
"A Crown's girl with someone like me? Are you kidding?"
"It's not impossible," you shrug.
"Oh yeah, here at Sunset's everything is impossible if you don't live on this side of town."
And that's another good point and very true.
Daniel joins you and Sam's little group and you stop paying attention the moment you turn your gaze back towards the yachts and them specifically.
This time you focus on the Targaryen's, Helaena, Aegon and Aemond.
Surprisingly, despite being in the top tier of the wealthiest and most powerful family in the entire city and country, compared to the Lannister's, Baratheon's, Tyrell's, Arryn's, Stark's and Greyjoy's, they are not so smug, superficial and arrogant.
Although, come to think of it, the only exception is Aegon.
The eldest of the brothers, he is characteristic of his carefree and arrogant attitude. His life is summed up in parties, girls and excesses. Everyone knows him, he is the soul of the party and drives all the girls crazy.
For him, life is a game where he always wins. Sometimes he seems like the typical privileged son who has never had to strive for anything, but his power lies precisely in that.
Then there is Helaena, the only sister among the Targaryens who has a pleasant and gentle presence.
Although she is rich, the richest of them all and extremely beautiful, she doesn't abuse it, she doesn't show it off, she's not shallow or arrogant, besides she's always looking out for her siblings.
She is the kind of person who doesn't need to shout to be noticed and with just a quiet smile, she earns the respect and admiration of those around her.
You know a little about her as Chase has a little now not so secret crush on her and honestly you don't blame him, she is absolutely beautiful and even kind, which is rare due to her provenance.
And finally there's Aemond, who of all them, he's always been... different.
Where Aegon is shameless and carefree, Aemond is calculating and serious. Always impeccably dressed, with an expression that doesn't say much and keeps him at a safe distance from most.
From what you've heard, he's extremely intelligent, he's also reserved and quiet, the complete opposite of Aegon.
There is also a rumor about him about his left eye, something about an accident as a child and where he apparently wears a prosthetic.
You don't really know much about it or him but he's always been intriguing and mysterious, in a way.
You focus on him specifically, watching him from a distance, curious, as he takes a seat on the deck with an expression you can't read as it doesn't tell you much.
You watch as his short silver hair moves slightly in the wind and breeze, as well as he watches everything around him intently, to again focus on his siblings and Floris.
Floris is his girlfriend, apparently they have been dating for a few months now and have given a lot to talk about since no one expected Aemond to even date anyone.
But there they are.
You watch as Floris approaches him and takes a seat on his lap, looking radiant in a tight dress and a huge smile on her face, but he, on the other hand, remains expressionless.
Floris murmurs something in his ear, to which he responds with a slight smile, but averts his gaze to the horizon. However, she gently takes him by the jaw and leaves a soft kiss on his lips.
They begin to kiss and you look away, trying to refocus on the party and enjoying yourself here with your friends.
However, being here with all these wealthy people, especially the Targaryen's, you can't help but feel that divide about the rich and the poor at Sunset's.
You feel like you live in two different worlds, where they, the rich, live a life completely oblivious to the concerns of the people on the other side of town, in Crown's.
While you and the others work in the restaurants, clean their yachts, boats, houses and make sure their lives are comfortable.
They float above it all, the Targaryen's, Lannister's, Stark's, Baratheon's and so on, attending parties and making decisions that only benefit their own.
But you, the poor, the ones who live in Black Waters have nothing, you don't have the money, the influence or the power. Even the name of your side of town is a mockery to them, the rich, in despising even more the poor who don't have what they have.
But that's the life in Sunset's Bay.

Excuse me, do you work here? (DC x DP)
This is sort of based off of the core idea behind The second, secret Justice League, so mayhaps consider reading that if you haven't? It'll take you 2 minutes max. Also, here's my masterpost.
So, Danny frequently works with the JL headquartered in the Infinite Realms. Basically, every League-Adjacent hero who died in costume chose to continue their work and make the Violent Afterlife a little safer. It's lead by Jason Todd as Batman (he never revived after Joker killed him in this AU - ....yet?) and has whomever else you like it in it. It's still just called the Justice League because with the zone inhabitants being long dead, never born or aliens, enough of them are unfamiliar with Justice League Earth.
They're better than ghost cops because they all died within the last decade. They remember what it is to be alive, they remember living people who they love and it changes the way that their minds think about crime and criminals in the zone. Their criminals are still people, not just obstructions to their obsessions.
And in a fun swap, Jason lives in mortal terror of the day anyone dares to kill the Joker. He hopes that asshole lives to the age of 108 and dies peacefully in bed so the chances of the Joker becoming an ecto-entity are as low as possible.
The regular, non-secret Justice League are kidnapped by a cool Alien species who want to make them fight. Not to the death, unless you feel like it, but more as a exhibition match. Martian Manhunter, Superman, Green Lantern and Constantine are not pumped to be kidnapped but the Lantern explains that doing well in this tournament will be super great going forward. If other planets hear about Earth's robust defence, they're all going to be less likely to fuck around and find out in future.
So, Constantine, in his infinite wisdom decides to - while they wait for the whole thing to start - summon the "best equipped" Justice League member to fight on their behalf. This other member (he assumes it will be Wonder Woman or Plastic Man) will probably not love being taken to a new planet. But, it's for the greater good and they'll all be taken home later.
But he didn't specify which Justice League - not knowing there are two. A 14 year old (looking) boy shows up. Superman is furious. Constantine, trembling with horror in what his hasty actions have done, explains everything.
Danny's thrilled, he's on a NEW PLANET?! He's met a MARTIAN? And he gets to do a low-stakes fight that could save millions of lives someday? This is the best day ever!
Danny tells them he's gonna fight, and he's gonna win, and they're going to help him get in touch with Batman on Earth when he's done. As payment.
He wants to tell Earth Batman that Ghost Batman loves him and never blamed him etc etc. Things Jason didn't exactly tell Danny to tell Bruce, but that he's mentioned to the team as wishing he could reach out and tell Batman before. (Why doesn't Jason go to Earth? Maybe he doesn't know which one, maybe the idea of being on the same planet as Joker sends him into a destructive rage, maybe he thinks telling Bruce he's still out there would do more harm than good... idk)
4 adult heroes watch in awe as Danny does a magic girl transformation into Inverted Danny and starts pulling more and more powers out of absolutely nowhere. Danny obliterates his competition and everyone is scared to hell of him. He gives an unwanted speech about what an honour it was to represent his solar system (he's thinking of his new bestie Martian Manhunter's culture's safety too).
It's only on the way home in the spaceship owned by the tournament mangers that it occurs to any of the Normal Justice League members to ask how this kid they've never even heard of is a member of their team and what he wants to discuss with Batman.

Going Christmas shopping with Cassidy amber
Holiday post #6
Pairing:Cassidy amber x gn reader
A/n:Am I doing this just because p:e.g. chapter 1 comes out tomorrow, and I really hope Cassidy doesn't die.....yes, definitely, PLEASE don't die my comunist gamer
You and Cassidy made your way inside the giant shopping mall you were planning to shop in, you two took a moment to take in the Christmas decorations and lighting
"Woooh finally, ok we're here"
She took off her hat and scraped some snow off of it
"I told you you should have worn warmer clothes, you thought only your hat would protect you from the cold?"
"Yeah, it's especially made to protect my head from the cold"
"And the other parts of your body?"
She dismissively waved her hand at you while looking at the other side
"Details,Details, besides, I'm not gonna catch a cold just because of a little bit of snow, I'm not that weak"
"Whatever you say"
"Anyway, now the fun can truly start, where do you wanna go first?"
"Is that even a question?"
"I know, I just wanted to say this together"
"Alright then"
"THE VIDEO GAME SECTION!"
You two fist bumped each other and started to walk hand-in-hand to the game section
"OK so what do you want to get?"
"I'm fine with whatever game you want, though I'd prefer a multi-player one so we can play together"
"You read my mind, though why do we have to limit each other to one game, it's the holiday season so we should get gifts right?"
"Oh yeah, I should probably get you one too"
"Nah, that's not what I meant"
She pulled out a credit card from out of her wallet and gave it to you
"My gift is gonna be to get you a gift, go nuts, take all the games you want"
"Oh no please I can't accept that"
"Come on we've been through this a gazillion times, streamer and tournament money is pretty good, even when you give part of it to charity, so I can not not spoil you, plus you're gonna buy more games with the money which is gonna make me more money with the streams, it's an infinite money glitch!"
"I......guess, don't think I'm not gonna buy games that you like though"
"Dude, I like every game you literally couldn't buy a game I don't like even if you wanted to"
"Eh,that's true"
You went and brought every interesting game you saw while asking Cassidy her opinion on them, she basically told you she liked everything which didn't help your objective to spend as less money as possible but she really didn't care about that
"OK what's next on the list?"
"Christmas decorations!"
"Sounds good"
You went to the check out and decorations and brought some that you thought would look good in your house, you then spotted a Christmas hat and held it out to your girlfriend
"you wanna wear this?"
"No, I've already got my hat and I'm not taking it off"
"Who said you had to take it off?"
You then put the Santa hat on top of her own hat, she looked at it and then gasped
"That's an amazing idea babe, it'a double hat! This has gotta double my stats and I'm gonna be in the Christmas spirit"
You giggled at her as you two hugged for a moment
"OK so now what's next?"
"Let's see, we brought games, decorations, sweaters, and cookies, I think we're done"
"OK, let's go then"
You two went to pay and it turned out that the cashier was a "comrade" of Cassidy's so he gave you a discount in exchange for a selfie.
"Wait let me hold the bags"
"Hm? Why?"
"I wanna do something since you paid and also your hands look like they're about to freeze, put them in your pockets"
"I think I have a better idea"
She gave you one of the bags as the held the other ones in her hand, she then reached her now empty hand to yours, wrapping it around your arm and pulling you closer to her
"Don't you know teamwork is the basis of every duo? Both for co-op gaming and for the power couple we are, plus now we have warm hands! Both of us! Isn't that just great?"
You laughed together and got even closer, warming each other up
"Yeah it is, so what do you wanna do for Christmas?"
"Oh, I wanted to do a special stream. It's gonna be like 12 hours long, and we're gonna be playing games and raising money. It's gonna be so epic"
"That does sound epic"
"And don't think you can skip it, we're gonna be playing together ok?"
"Don't worry, I wouldn't miss streaming with you for anything in the world"

Gay wrongs tournament, round one of the major bracket
Propaganda:
For the Doctor and the Master:
Immortal genderfluid war criminals <333
So we all know the Master has killed plenty of people, but, despite their reputation, the Doctor has killed a more than average number too. Sure they undid the whole destroying their own planet thing, but that's still something the Doctor did. Also there's apparently a novelization out there where, when they were children, the Doctor killed one of their childhood bullies but then made a deal with Death so that the Master had the memory of it and became Death's champion, which is pretty messed up and murder husbandish. There are plenty more war crimes on the Doctor's hands, and the Master has killed countless people in a variety of creative ways. Also, I'm having trouble finding the quote, but I swear the Master once said something to the lines of "trying to kill the Doctor is just my flirting" or something similar. But I do know Missy (also the Master but female at the time) described their relationship as "older than your civilization and infinitely more complex". They love each other, they're constantly trying to destroy each other, they are the only friends they each have who can even begin to understand everything they've been through; they've known each other since childhood and they've watched (and helped) civilizations rise and fall together. They may not be who you first think of for murder spouses but they really are a beautiful example.
For Joe and Nicky:
Immortal mercenaries they first met when fighting on opposite sides of the crusades. They killed eachother many times but came to understand eachother as the years passed. Eventually they fell in love and have been inseparable since. They live, love, fight and die together and have done so for hundreds and hundreds of years.
That is your pfp, dear pollrunner, and yet they don't have an automatic submission??? For shame! :D :D :D (Mod note: Honestly they should have :D They're no longer the pfp, though)
They definitely commit crimes, including murder. Their goodness or badness "depends on the century." There is an exchange in the comics about what crime they'll commit that night (they end up dancing gayly in a place where that's illegal but that wasn't the crime they originally planned on)

Attempt at a Comprehensive List of
Alexander von Humboldtʼs Potential Boyfriends
When if not now that Alex came 2nd in the @napoleonic-sexyman-tournament (what a time to be alive) would be the perfect time to finally thoroughly pick his private life apart. Strangely it has always been a mystery even to me (and of course overall it will remain a mystery until the end of times), but I still thought it was about time to at least get some order in the few things that we do know – mainly for myself but also, I dare say, for the public. You (the public!) will find a short text for every friend under the cut ↓.
disclaimers:
a) I tried to pick the most appropriate picture of everyone but please imagine especially the first ones a lot younger than they are in the pictures
b) it’s a potential boyfriends list, meaning: I’m not saying Alex definitely had romantic and/or sexual relationships with any let alone all of these men, it’s just a list of men where it seems at least possible; but ultimately, of course, we do not know and will never know
c) Alex lived for almost 90 years, and even though his textual remains can seem infinite, there is a lot we don’t know about him, especially his private life, not least because he habitually destroyed almost all of his private letters (which is also why for all of his correspondences we only know the letters he wrote but almost never the ones he received) − so I don’t think there’s any way this list is exhaustive (let me know if you think anyone is missing?)
d) Bonpland is not in this because Alex went out of his way to specifically state that his relationship with Bonpland was purely scientific
e) the point of this post isn’t to determine his sexuality, but since it has already come up, just a couple of words on him being on the asexual spectrum: that is perfectly possible and maybe not even unlikely, he said things about himself that could be interpreted as such (not wanting to marry, not having sensual needs); but I think it’s good to keep two things in mind about that: 1. not wanting to get married was a big thing in 1800, something you had to explain yourself for and not wanting to get married as a man also obviously meant not wanting a wife, it was by no means a question on whether or not wanting a significant other and/or sex; 2. the narrative of his sex-less life at least partly derives from the (mainly 19th/20th century) wish for him not to have been (actively) homosexual
f) I hate to be that person, but it has to be said: language and culture back then were much more emotional and expressive than we are used to today, so not everything that sounds super intimate or even romantic to us (language-wise) has to actually have been meant that way; of course this doesn’t rule out anything either but it’s a thing to keep in mind
g) if anyone is interested in sources or further reading on anything particular, do not hesitate to hit me up! But i’m not adding any of that to this post because 1. it’s already 2 km long and 2. this is tumblr dot com
Wilhelm Gabriel Wegener (1767-1837)
18-year-old Alex met Wilhelm in 1787 during the one semester he studied at the University of Frankfurt (Oder). Wilhelm was a (protestant) theology student and on 13 February 1788 they made a “holy” oath to “eternal brotherly love”. They wrote each other very cheesy letters, very much in the Empfindsamkeit fashion of the time, proclaiming their eternal and ever-growing love for each other. There was no one on earth, Alex wrote to him once (and in Italian no less), whom he loved as ardently as him (“Non vi è uomo sopra la terra ch'io amì così ardammente che lei…”). He also told him that, ever since he had met him, it seemed to him that God had created people only in pairs, because no one else could ever compare to what he meant to him. In his letters Alex also repeatedly refers to the many hours spent together (“chatting”) in a certain armchair in Frankfurt and proclaims that he has never been happier than in that very chair.
They kept contact for a couple of years after their time in Frankfurt, but at some point their friendship faded out.
Carl Ludwig Willdenow (1765-1812)
Willdenow (a published botanist) and Alex met in 1788 in Berlin, when Alex had one day decided to just call at his house to ask him to teach him botany. Willdenow agreed and they became friends quickly, spent a lot of time together, and when Alex wandered through Berlin on his own to collect plants, he would afterwards bring them to Willdenow who would then identify them for him.
We do not know a lot about their friendship during that time (and maybe I only included him in this because I needed 9 tiles) but at least one phrase in Alex’s autobiography fragment calls our attention, not least because it’s highlighted by what I like to call a Streisand strike-through: “I became enthusiastically fond of him” or “I grew to love him enthusiastically” (“Ich gewann ihn enthusiatisch lieb”, written in 1801 and crossed out roughly 50 years later).
They stayed in contact even after Alex had left Berlin a couple of months later: in 1795 Alex became godfather of Willdenow’s son and in 1810 he convinced him to come to Paris to work on his botanical collections from the South America trip. Sadly, Willdenow fell ill in 1811 and died in 1812 in Berlin.
Karl Freiesleben (1774-1846)
Alex met Karl in 1791 in Freiberg, where both studied geology and mining at the renowned Bergakademie. Karl was the son of a local mining family and Alex learnt a lot from him about his new profession. They both were nerdy about stones and minerals in ways you couldn’t even begin to imagine. They gifted each other minerals, went down into the mines together, and in August 1791 they made a 200 km long geological expedition through the mountains of Bohemia on foot. But aside from pages-long enthusiastic rants about geology, Alex’s letters to Karl are also full of sentimental love declarations. He called him Herzens-Freisesleben, Herzens-Karl or Herzensjunge (roughly “my heart’s Freiesleben/Karl/boy”) and once finished a letter with: “going to bed now and I’ll be happy when I dream of you” — a passage Karl thoroughly struck through later, probably so no one else could read it, but someone deciphered almost all the struck through passages anyway (not all heroes wear capes!).
Karl and Alex stayed (sporadic and long-distance) friends for the rest of Karl’s life.
Reinhard von Haeften (1772-1803)
The above picture shows a snippet from one of Alex’s travel journals where he noted Reinhard’s birthday (“14 Mai R.”) because sadly we don’t have a picture of Reinhard. But let’s hear how Alex described him:
“This Reinhard v. Haeften has been my only and hourly company for a year now. I live with him, he visits me in the mountains. [...] I have already ridden 8 miles [60 km] just to see him for a couple of hours. He is very tall, taller than most men and he’s only 22 years old but looks more mature than me [at 25]. He has a very remarkable face and everyone finds him to be one of the most beautiful men, and I too think he’s beautiful, but most importantly I have never seen purity of the soul, kindness and courtesy being reflected in anyone’s features as much as in his.”
Alex and Reinhard met in 1793 in Bayreuth (where Alex now worked as a mining official) and they quickly moved in together. However, shortly before meeting Alex, Reinhard had also managed to make a baby with a married woman 4 years older than him. Alex was friendly with Christiane, the child’s mother and helped to keep the birth a secret. The boy (named Friedrich Gustav Alexander, Alex’s godson and surely named after him) had to spend the first years away from his parents. In the meantime, Reinhard continued to live with Alex, accompanied him on business trips and mineralogical expeditions and in 1795 they went on a two-month trip through Northern Italy and Switzerland. It was only with and through him, Alex wrote to Reinhard once, that he could live, only close to him that he could be fully happy.
Later, after Reinhard and Christiane had finally gotten married (and reunited with their son), Alex wrote him a very long letter, proposing for the three of them to (continue to?) live together with Reinhard as head of the family and to settle for quiet life in Switzerland, Italy, or some small town in the west of Germany. That plan never worked out, but “Rein” (as Alex called him), Christiane, their by now two children and Alex lived and travelled together for another two years while Alex was already preparing for his big journey.
After he had sailed for the Americas in 1799, he tried his best to stay in contact with them. In his letters, he called them his “Herzensmenschen” (again, roughly: “his heart’s humans”), wrote them that he was dreaming about them day and night and how much he wished that his – their – Rein could be with him to see all the marvels, too. But cross-atlantic communication was bad during that time and in both directions most letters never arrived.
Sadly, Reinhard unexpectedly died in 1803 while Alex was still in America, meaning they never got to meet again. Alex stayed in contact with Christiane and the children − the only survivors of the shipwreck, as he put it − and wrote Christiane how he still remembered their time together, along with all the hopes and dreams that they had had and that despite the “all-robbing fate”, there was something unalterable in the depth of their love, that could only die with them. When Christiane remarried and had another son in 1806, she named him Gustave Louis Reinhard Alexandre. Alex continued to financially support Christiane and the children and in 1813, Reinhard’s son Fritz (Alex’s godson) visited Alex in Paris for three months.
Carlos Montúfar (1780-1816)
Alex met Carlos in 1802 in Quito and despite him having no scientific qualifications whatsoever, Alex chose Carlos to accompany him on his further journey. This decision offended botanist, geographer and astronomer Francisco José de Caldas (who himself had hoped to join the expedition) so much that he, in a letter to botanist José Celestino Mutis, famously called Carlos “[señor Barón de Humboldt’s] Adonis”, probably insinuating that Alex had picked Carlos purely for his looks, or even more.
Together with the rest of the party, Alex and his supposed “Adonis” travelled what today is Ecuador (where they climbed the Chimborazo), Peru, Mexico, Cuba and the USA. At least once during that journey (but perhaps regularly?) they shared a bed (as in some kind of temporary/mobile accomodation) which we know because Alex explicitly says so in his travel journal when he describes a night in which Carlos had very bad stomach cramps which Alex tried to ease by heating handkerchiefs over the fire for him in the middle of the night.
Carlos accompanied Alex back to Europe in 1804 and stayed with him in Paris for a couple of months (where they most likely both attended Napoleon’s coronation) until he ultimately left to go to Madrid. But since Carlos had trouble getting money from South America, he still had to rely on Alex’s support. However, over time his contact to Alex seems to have broken off, because in a letter from 1806, Carlos complained about Alex not answering him anymore (“¡Qué largo silencio!”) and then told him, quite dramatically, that he was running out of money, and that he, Alex, was his only friend, his only hope, and the only person he knew in Europe who could tell him what to do. Whether all of Alex’s letters had gotten lost in the mail and whether Alex ended up helping him out or not, I think we don’t know. (But knowing him as I do and since he after all kept that letter, I’m sure that he did.)
Later, Carlos went back to South America, where he (alongside Símon Bolívar) fought to liberate the continent from the Spanish Crown − a fight he unfortunately didn’t survive: he was captured and executed by the Spanish in 1816.
Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac (1778-1850)
Alex and Gay (that’s what Alex called him, no pun intended) first met in 1804 in Paris, just after Alex’s return from America. Before, Gay had done two things: 1. contributed to a harsh critique on one of Alex’s papers, 2. ascended 7016 m in a hot-air balloon to investigate the air up there − a world record at the time and more than 1000 m higher than Alex had been on the Chimborazo, which had then also been a world record (in recorded European history).
Evidently, these were the best conditions for them to totally hit it off: they almost immediately started to work on the evaluation of Gay’s balloon ascent and often spent entire days working together in Gay’s room, from 9 am until after midnight. In a letter to his father, Gay wrote that Alex was the man with the best heart he had ever known, that their tastes and sentiments were absolutely the same − and that their hearts felt a great need to see each other very often.
After the publication of their paper (in which they, without fully realising it, also first identified the chemical composition of water: H2O), they (and another friend) went on a six-month field trip through Switzerland and Italy − where they were lucky enough to witness both an earthquake and a resulting Vesuvius eruption. They ended their journey in Berlin where Gay stayed at Alex’s for a couple of months and even started to learn German until he unexpectedly had to leave for Paris. His absence, Alex wrote after Gay had left, pained him a lot.
When Alex finally returned to Paris as well, they shared a single room at the École Polytechnique and even after Gay became a father in 1808 and married in 1809, Alex continued to (at least occasionaly) live with his family for many years. Gay’s first son (born in 1810) was named Jules Alexandre and while I have no proof that he was named after Alex, I think it’s safe to assume. Alex seems to have also been very intimately integrated into the family life, because he once wrote to Willdenow (with a humorous undertone of course): “We are always pregnant and just had a girl again. Right now we’re not feeling anything though.” Alex was also there to help when an explosion in a laboratory accident injured Gay’s eyes so badly that Alex and another friend had to take him home in a blindfold.
No letters between the two have survived (that we know of), but we do know that in the years after they first met, Alex considered Gay his best friend and “one of the kindest beings in the world”, that he named an American plant genus after him (Gaylussacia), and that they used “tu” with each other (which was very uncommon in France at the time except for childhood friends and family). They stayed friends for the rest of their lives and formed a kind of trio with Arago (see below).
Karl von Steuben (1788-1856)
We don’t know when exactly they first met but according to Alex they started to see each other daily in 1812 at the studio of painter François Gérard, where Alex had then started to take drawing lessons. Steuben, a young aspiring artist, lived and worked at Gérard’s studio. According to Alex, they “drew and painted” together “daily” for at least one or two years. Withdrawn from all other society, he wrote, this was now his “only joy” (interestingly almost the exact same wording he had used to describe his relationship with Reinhard 20 years earlier). However, it had perhaps been one of Alex’s exaggerations because he at least seems to have attended the famous salons Gérard held at his studio, where all the cool Paris people came to hang out. Alex reportedly talked incessantly, stayed late into the night (the main thing usually didn’t get going until midnight) and was found there again, freshly dressed and shaved, already at 7 in the morning.
In the meantime, Alex had started to torment basically everyone around him to commission Steuben to paint them, their sons, daughters, fiancés etc. to help Steuben support his poor mother in St. Petersburg. In 1814, even Alex’s brother noted that Alex had suddenly become strangely interested in art. In the same year, Alex became godfather to Steuben’s newborn son Alexander.
However, the biggest commission Alex got Steuben was a life-sized full-body painting of himself, which he intended to gift to his sister-in-law. It took 7 years to finish and in the end Alex’s brother had to pay for transport and framing because Alex had run out of money. Neither his brother nor his sister-in-law were overly enthusiastic about the likeness of the painting or Steuben’s talent in general but they still put it up in their home because after all, as his brother put it, they loved Alex and always liked a picture of him around.
Alex and Steuben stayed in at least loose contact for many years and Alex occasionally even still tried to get him commissions. Steuben’s painting of Alex hung in the Humboldt residence in Tegel for over a century before it was ultimately destroyed in WWII. Apparently though, another Alex portrait by Steuben from 1815 still exists in a private collection somewhere.
François Arago (1786-1853)
Arago, a young astronomer, was on a scientific expedition through Spain when he got entangled in the Peninsular War: mistaken for a French spy, he got arrested and incarcerated, managed to flee, was captured again, transferred, released, drifted off at sea to Algeria, all the while managing to hold on to his most valuable possession: his scientific records, which he kept hidden under his shirt at all times. When Alex heard about this (the two had never met before), he was so impressed by his courage and determination that he sent a letter to congratulate him — and to offer him his friendship. And in fact, one of the first things Arago did when he finally returned to Paris in 1809 was to go and meet Alex. It was the beginning of a 44-year-long friendship. They saw each other almost daily, worked together at the observatory, planned an expedition to Tibet (which never happened), and actually travelled at least to London in 1817 to visit Alex’s brother, who commented to his wife: “Alexander has arrived yesterday. But he isn't staying with me, even though his room had already been prepared. You know his passion to always be with one person who is his favourite at that time. Now he has the astronomer Arago who he doesn't want to part with (...) So they're staying at a nearby inn.” Just as with Gay, Alex and Arago used “tu” with each other and after Arago had gotten married in 1811, Alex was close with his wife and children as well as with his siblings, nieces and nephews — in some letters he even considered himself part of the Arago family.
When Alex was forced to move back to Berlin in 1827 to work for the king, he wrote Arago desperate letters on how much their separation pained him, how much he missed him every hour of every day. In the following 26 years, Alex’s letters to him were full of yearning pleas for just a couple of lines of his hand, which, as he wrote, always made his heart flutter. However, Arago often didn’t respond for months, but when he did, he at least knew to reassure Alex, writing things like: “Outside my family, you are, without any comparison, the person I love most tenderly in this world.” Alex kept a portrait and a large Arago bust in his study in Berlin, and until his late seventies, he travelled to Paris regularly (that is, every few years), first and foremost to see Arago. (Actual quote from 78-year-old Alex in a letter to his niece: “Every morning at half past eight without interruption, I’ve been at Arago’s in the observatory, today for the 62nd time.”) According to Arago, he and Alex have only been angry with each other one single time in all those decades and even that went over in an instant.
They saw each other for the last time in January 1848, on the last night of Alex’s last stay in Paris. When Arago fell ill five years later, his family informed Alex of his worsening condition — but Alex couldn’t travel to Paris to see him one last time. Even over a year after Arago’s death, Alex wrote that the memory of those last moments in January 1848 vividly came back to him during the night at least once a week. all the harry potter spells!
i was bored so I spent four (4) hours extracting info from the harry potter wiki pages, cuz I've been reading a whole lot of drarry lately and im considering writing a oneshot or smth. but i realized I should prolly have a copy of all the spells. I own the unofficial spell book, but it's also nice to have everything online as well. im not expecting this to get much traction, but if anyone needs it, here it is! you can also check the wiki pages anyway. thx y'all
Aberto (Opening Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: Ah-bare-toh Description: A spell used to open doors; it is probably related to Alohamora. Etymology: Portuguese for 'open'. Compare Spanish 'abierto'.
Accio (Summoning Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: Various, including: AK-ee-oh, AK-see-oh, AS-see-oh (US), and AT-chee-oh (Anglo-Catholic pronunciation) Description: Summons an object towards the caster. It is able to summon objects in direct line of sight of the caster, as well as things out of view, by calling the object aloud after the incantation (unless the spell is cast nonverbally). This spell needs thought behind it, and the object must be clear in the caster's mind before trying to summon it. The caster doesn't necessarily need to know the location of the target as long as they say the name of the object to be summoned, such as when Hermione Granger summoned some books from Dumbledore's office simply by saying "Accio Horcrux books!" while in Gryffindor Tower. Seen/Mentioned: Harry Potter summoned his broom to complete the first task of the Triwizard Tournament in 1994, and to summon the Portkey to escape Voldemort and the Death Eaters in the Little Hangleton graveyard in 1995. Also, in the Battle of the Seven Potters Harry summoned Hagrid when he fell. Molly Weasley used it to get the twins' candy. The twins used it to summon their brooms from Dolores Umbridge's office. Etymology: The Latin word accio means "I call" or "I summon". Notes: The Summoning Charm is unable to directly summon exceptionally large targets such as buildings, or living creatures (except for Flobberworms which aren't considered to be worth summoning). It is also unable to summon Horcruxes as they have protective enchantments placed on them. It is, however, possible to move a creature by summoning things they are wearing or holding. It is also possible to bewitch items to become unaffected from this charm, as is the case with most bought goods.
(Age Line) Type: Charm Description: Prevents people above or below a certain age from access to a target. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Albus Dumbledore to prevent underage students from entering their names into the Goblet of Fire. Also seen when Fred and George Weasley attempted to circumvent it with Ageing Potions, and ended up in the Hospital Wing with fine white beards, along with other students who tried similar tactics.
Aguamenti (Water-Making Spell) Type: Charm, Conjuration Pronunciation: AH-gwah-MEN-tee Description: Produces a clean, drinkable jet of water from the wand tip. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Fleur Delacour in 1994 to extinguish her skirt, which had caught flame during a fight against a dragon. Harry used this spell twice in 1997, both on the same night; once to attempt to provide a drink for Dumbledore, then again to help douse Hagrid's hut after it was set aflame by Thorfinn Rowle, who used the Fire-Making Spell. Etymology: Possibly a hybrid of Latin words aqua, which means "water", and menti, which means "for the mind."
Alarte Ascendare Type: Charm Pronunciation: a-LAR-tay a-SEN-der-ay Description: Shoots the target high into the air. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Gilderoy Lockhart in 1992 to send a snake high into the air during the first and last meeting of the Duelling Club. Etymology: Ascendere is a Latin infinitive meaning "to go up,""to climb," "to embark," "to rise(figuratively);" this is the origin of the English word "ascend".
(Albus Dumbledore's forceful spell) Type: Spell Description: This spell was, supposedly, quite powerful as when it was cast, the opponent was forced to conjure a silver shield to deflect it. Seen/Mentioned: It was used by Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic, immediately following the Battle of the Department of Mysteries on 17 June, 1996, while he duelled Voldemort.
Alohomora (Unlocking Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: ah-LOH-ho-MOR-ah Description: Unlocks doors and other locked objects. It can also unlock doors that have been sealed with a Locking Spell, although it is possible to bewitch doors to become unaffected by this spell. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Hermione Granger in 1991 to allow her and her friends to access the Third-floor corridor at her school, which was at the time forbidden; she used it again two years later to free Sirius's cell in her teacher's prison room. Etymology: The incantation is derived from the West African Sidiki dialect used in geomancy; it means "friendly to thieves".
Alohomora Duo Type: Charm Pronunciation: ah-LOH-ho-MOR-ah DOO-oh Description: A more powerful version of Alohomora.
(Altering Spell) Type: Transfiguration Description: Transformed the physical form or colour of objects.
Amato Animo Animato Animagus (Animagus Spell) Type: Transfiguration Pronunciation: ah-MAH-toh ah-NEE-moh ah-nee-MAH-toh an-a-MAY-jus Description: Spell used as part of the process of becoming an Animagus. The incantation has to be recited at sunrise and sundown, every day before the consumption of the Animagus Potion. The incantation is also recited just prior to the consumption of the potion, which has to take place just after a lightning storm starts. The incantation is recited while placing the wand's tip over one's heart. Etymology: Amato is a conjugation of the Latin word amo, which means "I love" or "I am obliged to". Animo and animato are both different conjugations of the Latin word animo, which can mean "I animate" or "I fill with breath or life". Animagus on the other hand appears to be a portmanteau of animo or "animal", and magus, which is Latin for "wizard." Overall, the incantation can roughly mean "My love brings me life, I am obliged to become an animal wizard."
Anapneo Type: Healing Spell, Vanishment Pronunciation: ah-NAP-nee-oh Description: Clears the target's airway if they are choking on something. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Horace Slughorn, cast upon Marcus Belby when the latter choked on a pheasant in 1996. Etymology: From the Greek verb anapneo, meaning "I breathe in."

(Anti-Apparition Charm) Type: Charm Description: Prevents Apparition within range of an area. Often used to keep out unwanted visitors from an area. Seen/Mentioned: Mentioned that no one can Apparate into Hogwarts grounds due to this spell.
(Anti-Disapparition Jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Prevents Disapparation within an area. It is often used to entrap an enemy in an area. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Albus Dumbledore to trap some Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries in 1996. Also used on Hogsmeade in 1998 by the Death Eaters to keep the Trio trapped there shortly before the Battle of Hogwarts. Also mentioned that nobody can Disapparate from Hogwarts; it is due to this jinx.
(Anti-intruder jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Prevents intruders from entering an area. It is probably relatively similar to the Anti-Apparition Charm. Seen/Mentioned: It was placed on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1996 for extra protection during an invasion of Death Eaters.
(Antonin Dolohov's curse) Type: Curse Description: An unknown curse that causes injuries that are capable of killing with enough power. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Antonin Dolohov during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries twice; Dolohov was under a Silencing Charm, and thus weakened the effects of this curse, saving Hermione from death, but incapacitated her and required her to take ten potions a day for some time.
Aparecium (Revealing Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: AH-par-EE-see-um Description: Reveals secret messages written in invisible ink, or any other hidden markings. Can be used to Apparate two or more people at once if holding onto each other (i.e. Side-Along Apparition). No incantation required. Seen/Mentioned: Used frequently by Wizardkind to teleport from place to place. Aqua Eructo Type: Charm Pronunciation: A-kwa ee-RUCK-toh Description: This spell is used to create, and control, a jet of clear water from the tip of the wand; it is probably related to Aguamenti. Seen/Mentioned: Used multiple times to extinguish fires in 1994. Etymology: Aqua means, in Latin, water. Eructo is a verb meaning "I raise"; roughly translated, it means "I raise water".
Arania Exumai Type: Charm Pronunciation: ah-RAHN-ee-a EKS-su-may Description: Drives away spiders, including Acromantulas. Seen/Mentioned: Jacob's sibling used this spell to repel an Acromantula that guarded the Forest Vault in the Forbidden Forest. Etymology: From the Latin aranea, meaning "spider", and exuo, meaning "I lay aside".
Arresto Momentum (Slowing Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum Description: Decreases the velocity of a moving target. Can be used on multiple targets, as well as on the caster themselves. It was invented by Daisy Pennifold in 1711 for use on the Quaffle in Quidditch. Seen/Mentioned: Used wandlessly by Dumbledore to save one of his students from a fall in 1993; Hermione Granger used it, to little effect, in 1998 to cushion an otherwise deadly fall during their break-in at Gringotts. Etymology: Likely the combination of the Anglo-French arester, meaning "to bring to a stop" and the Latin momentum, meaning "the force or strength gained whilst moving"; the literal translation hence is "Bring the force or strength gained whilst moving to a stop".
(Arrow-shooting spell) Type: Conjuration Description: Fires arrows from the caster's wand. Seen/Mentioned: The spell used to be used by Appleby Arrows supporters at Quidditch matches to show their support for their teams; however, the British and Irish Quidditch League banned the use of the spell at matches when referee Nugent Potts was pierced through the nose with a stray arrow in 1894.

Avada Kedavra (Killing Curse) Type: Curse Pronunciation: ah-VAH-dah keh-DAV-rah Description: Avada-Kedavra Causes instantaneous and painless death, leaving no physical injury to the victim's body or any trace of violence. It is accompanied by a bright flash or long stream of green light and a distinctive rushing noise while cast. There is no known counter-curse that can protect the victim from dying, except for a loving sacrifice. It is one of the three Unforgivable Curses. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Tom Riddle to murder many of his victims without any regret or remorse. Also Harry Potter was saved from this spell a number of times: by his mother's loving sacrifice, because he was an accidental Horcrux, because his wand and his enemy's were made of the same core, and because the Elder Wand refused to kill its true master (Harry Potter) during Voldemort's Last Stand. Seen/Mentioned: In 1927, Newton Scamander used this spell to track the origins of a feather - a clue found during his search for Porpentina Goldstein - back to Yusuf Kama, whose hat the feather came from. Etymology: The incantation Avenseguim is likely derived from the portmanteau of avens, a Latin adjective for "eager" or "craving", and seguir, the Spanish and Portuguese verb meaning "to follow", or alternatively from the Catalan seguim, meaning "we follow". Taken together, Avenseguim can be interpreted as "to eagerly follow", which aptly characterises the behaviour of a tracking device.
Avis (Bird-Conjuring Charm) Type: Conjuration, Charm Pronunciation: AH-viss Description: Conjures a flock of birds from the tip of the wand. When used in conjunction with Oppugno, it can be used offensively. Seen/Mentioned: Used in 1994 by Mr Ollivander to test Viktor Krum's wand. (Bedazzling Hex) Type: Hex Description: Allows the caster to disguise things. Seen/Mentioned: When Xenophilius Lovegood explains the concept of how the Cloak of Invisibility is the only thing that can make a person truly invisible, he mentions that most cloaks of that kind are made with this spell. Etymology: The word Brackium is likely derived from the Latin word "Bracchium" meaning "Forearm" or just "Arm", and Emendo, from the Latin word of the same spelling, meaning "I Correct" or "I Improve", the full meaning would be "I Correct/Improve the Forearm".

Seen/Mentioned: Used multiple times in 1993 to open the statue of Gunhilda of Gorsemoor, then again four years later in a failed attempt to open Salazar Slytherin's Locket. Etymology: There are numerous suggestions. Notes: This may not be a spell at all in the strict sense but a password; however, when used for the statue of the hump-backed witch, one must tap the statue with their wand, indicating that it is in fact a spell.
(Disillusionment Charm) Type: Charm Description: Causes the target to blend seamlessly in with its surroundings, like a chameleon. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Alastor Moody to disguise Harry Potter in 1995.
Draconifors (Draconifors Spell) Type: Transfiguration Pronunciation: drah-KOH-nih-fors Description: Transforms the target into a dragon. Seen/Mentioned: Taught in third year Transfiguration class. Etymology: From the Latin word draco, meaning "dragon", and forma meaning "shape".

Used on another spider three years later to test a new wand. Etymology: The English word engorge means "swell". Notes: There is much speculation that this spell is the same as the Growth Charm, though this cannot be proven. Note that there is a difference between enlarging and engorging something, similar though they may seem.
Engorgio Skullus Type: Dark charm Pronunciation: in-GORE-jee-oh SKUH-las Description: Causes the victim's skull to swell disproportionately. This spell may be a variation of the Engorgement Charm, as they share the first word of the incantation. Its countercurse is Redactum Skullus. Seen/Mentioned: Taught to Harry Potter by Remus Lupin during his Anti-Dementor lessons; Harry later taught Dumbledore's Army this charm. This is the only known spell effective against Dementors or Lethifolds. (False memory spell) Type: Charm Description: Implants a false memory in the victim without them realising it was not originally theirs. Seen/Mentioned: Lord Voldemort used this spell twice; firstly in 1943 upon his uncle Morfin Gaunt, then sometime later on the house-elf Hokey. Both instances were to hide his crimes and make the victims believe they were responsible. It is likely that Kingsley Shacklebolt used this spell on Marietta Edgecombe in 1996 in order to prevent her from revealing Dumbledore's Army to Cornelius Fudge. This is reinforced by Dumbledore stating that Shacklebolt was "remarkably quick on the uptake" in modifying her memory. It is possible that Professor Horace Slughorn used this in the next school year to hide his memory of Voldemort asking him about Horcruxes, although as he retained awareness of the true memory his spell may be a different one. It is also possible that he simply repressed it to such a degree that it could not be extracted from him against his will, as the memory he gave Dumbledore simple went blank at the right times and was replaced by a disembodied shouting, rather than images; this was noted to be crudely done. Hermione Granger used this in 1997 to make her parents believe they were named Wendell and Monica Wilkins respectively, that they have no daughter, and to make them move to Australia in order to protect them from Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

(Fidelius Charm) Type: Charm Description: An immensely complex charm used to hide secret information within the soul of the charm's recipient, who is called a Secret-Keeper. The information is irretrievable unless the Secret-Keeper willingly chooses to reveal it, and only the aforementioned person can do so. Seen/Mentioned: In 1993, it was explained that when Harry was merely an infant, he and his parents were hidden from Voldemort with this charm; from 1995 onward it was used to protect Grimmauld Place, and in 1998 it was used to protect Shell Cottage. Etymology: Latin fidelis, which means "faithful". Notes: Although when a Secret-Keeper dies the secret they held can never be revealed to anyone else, in 1997 it is apparent that upon the Keeper's death all those who had been told the secret become keepers in turn. Notes (2): This charm seems to have no effect with regard to animals, as Hedwig found Ron and Hermione in a location that was protected by this charm; however, it is possible that Dumbledore somehow told her, ludicrous though such may seem. Notes (3): In 1981, Hagrid managed to get to Harry before all the Muggles could look at it; this makes it appear as though the Killing Curse will negate the effect of the Fidelius Charm. Notes (4): Those who have been told of the secret by secret-keepers still cannot pass the secret on, as proven by Severus Snape and Bellatrix Lestrange.
(Fiendfyre) Type: Curse Description: Unleashes cursed fire that takes the shape of animals that actively seek out living targets and burn anything in its path, including nearly indestructible substances such as Horcruxes. In addition, this fire is made even more dangerous due to the fact that it is extremely difficult to control, and cannot be extinguished with normal or enchanted water. (Horcrux-making spell) Type: Dark Arts Description: This spell allows a part of a wizard's soul to pass into an object, thereby making the object a Horcrux. One has to commit murder and take advantage of the soul's "splitting apart" by this supreme act of evil in order to be able to perform this spell, and it is probably very complex. In 1943, Horace Slughorn described the spell to a young Tom Riddle as encasing a portion of the torn soul and placing it within an object. The spell itself is described in detail in a banned book known as "Secret of the Darkest Art", which Hermione Granger summoned from Albus Dumbledore's office near the end of their sixth year. According to the text, use of this spell to separate the soul will make the remaining portion of the soul very fragile, and can only be reversed by "remorse" of the wrongs the creator had made; however, the pain caused by attempting to reverse the creation of a Horcrux can destroy the individual. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Lord Voldemort while creating his Horcruxes.
(Hot Air Charm) Type: Charm Description: Conjures a stream of hot air Seen/Mentioned: Used by Hermione Granger in 1995 to dry off her robes. Also used shortly after to melt snow. Also was used by Albus Dumbledore in 1997 to dry Harry's and his own robes.

Etymology: Latin impedimentum (plural impedimenta), "a hindrance" or "an impediment".
Imperio (Imperius Curse) Type: Curse Pronunciation: im-PEER-ee-oh Description: Places the victim completely under the caster's control. The victim is put into a calm, trance-like state, and becomes unquestionably obedient to the commands of the caster. However, those who are strong-willed may learn to resist it. One of the three "Unforgivable Curses," the use of this curse on another human results in capital punishment or life sentence in Azkaban. Seen/Mentioned: Used on many occasions. First seen in 1994 when Barty Crouch Jnr, impersonating ex-Auror Alastor Moody, used it on a spider and later on students during a "class demonstration" in a Defence Against the Dark Arts class. Possibly linked to the Latin in carcerem, "in(to) prison". Notes: A non-verbal version of this spell may have been used to tie up Remus Lupin by Severus Snape during the encounter in the Shrieking Shack, and then later Peter Pettigrew in 1994. It may also have been used by Quirrell in 1992, although he is said to have merely "snapped his fingers". Also, it may have been the spell Antonin Dolohov used non-verbally to bind Ron Weasley with "shining black ropes" in a skirmish on Tottenham Court Road.
Incendio (Fire-Making Spell) Type: Charm, Conjuration Pronunciation: in-SEN-dee-oh Description: Produces fire. Seen/Mentioned: It was used in 1994 by Arthur Weasley to create a fire in the Dursleys' hearth so that he could use Floo Powder there. Etymology: Latin incendere, "to set fire (to)". Note that the first principal part of this verb (meaning "I set fire") is incendo, not incendio; the incantation does not match exactly any correct conjugation of the verb. Incêndio, in Portuguese (same pronunciation as in English) means 'huge fire'. "Encender" in Spanish means "to ignite" and "Incendie" in French means flame. (A plausible but less likely source might be that it is a back-formation from the English word "incendiary," i.e., "causing fire.")

Seen/Mentioned: Harry Potter came across it while browsing the index of Basic Hexes for the Busy and Vexed, trying to find a way to fight the dragon he knew he would have to face for the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament. He quickly decided it would be ineffective, because dragons do not have hair. Notes: This spell has similar effects to the Hair Loss Curse.
(Intruder Charm) Type: Charm Description: Detects intruders and sounds an alarm. Seen/Mentioned: Horace Slughorn used it on a Muggle-owned house he stayed in temporarily in 1996, but did not hear it go off when Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter arrived, as he was in the bath.

Seen/Mentioned: Apparently invented by the Half-Blood Prince; it is a non-verbal-only spell (although it is whispered by Hermione in 1997). Harry Potter learnt it by reading the notes written by the Half-Blood Prince. He used it on Ron. The previous year, Harry had seen (through the Pensieve used by Severus Snape) his father, James Potter, use the spell against Professor Snape. Etymology: Latin levare, "raise" and corpus, "body" or "corpse".
Levioso Type: Charm Pronunciation: leh-vee-OH-so Description: Makes objects levitate. Etymology: Latin levo, "raise, lift up", or levis, "light" (of weight).
Liberacorpus Type: Counter-Jinx Pronunciation: LIB-er-ah-cor-pus Description: The counter-jinx to Levicorpus. Seen/Mentioned: Harry used the spell in 1996 to counteract Levicorpus he had inadvertently cast on Ron. Etymology: Latin liberare, "to free", and corpus, "body" or "corpse". Notes: It is not clear why Levicorpus has a specific counter-spell, and is not neutralised by simply using Finite Incantatem, although this could be due to the fact that Snape invented the spell and therefore made it irreversible except by its specific counter-curse.
Locomotor (Locomotion Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: loh-kuh-MOH-tor Description: Allows a witch or wizard to levitate a target a few inches off of the ground and then move said object in any given direction. Similarly to the Summoning Charm, a specific object can be moved by calling the object aloud after saying the incantation. A variation seen in 1998 is Piertotum Locomotor, which caused the statues of Hogwarts to be animated. Etymology: Latin locus (place) and moto, "set in motion" (passive motor), or English locomotion.
Locomotor Mortis (Leg-Locker Curse) Type: Curse Pronunciation: LOH-koh-moh-tor MOR-tis Description: Sticks legs together. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Draco Malfoy on Neville Longbottom in 1991. Used by Harry Potter on Draco Malfoy, who deflected it, in 1996. Etymology: English locomotion, "movement" + Latin mortis, "of death". Notes: It is unclear whether or how this spell is related to the Locomotor spell. It could, however, be that the curse "locks" any part of the body in accordance to where it is pointed, or moves the body into a position of the caster's choosing whilst placing them into an immobile state. It is possible that Draco had pointed his wand at Neville and the curse "locked" his legs together.
Lumos (Wand-Lighting Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: LOO-mos Description: Illuminates the tip of the caster's wand, allowing the caster to see in the dark. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Hermione to free Ron from the Devil's Snare. The incantation was only used in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Etymology: Derived from two words; the Latin lumen, meaning "light", and the Latin word for "sun", which in its accusative case is "solem". Notes: It is possible that the quality of the light is on the warmer solar end of the spectrum; Considering the known uses that the spell has been put to, it isn't that much of a stretch to presume that the spell is used to conjure Sunlight.
Magicus Extremos Type: Charm Description: Partnership-based charm that temporarily increases the casters' spell power.
Melofors (Melofors Jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Encases the victim's head in a pumpkin. Seen/Mentioned: Cornelius Fudge was rumoured to have been a victim of this jinx after having been overpowered by Albus Dumbledore in a duel in 1996.
Meteolojinx Recanto Type: Counter-Charm Pronunciation: mee-tee-OH-loh-jinks reh-CAN-toh. Description: Causes weather effects caused by jinxes to cease. Seen/Mentioned: Suggested in 1997 by Arthur Weasley to Ron (disguised as Reginald Cattermole by use of Polyjuice Potion) as the best way to clear up the rain jinx on a Ministry office. Also used by Bartemius Crouch Jnr (Disguised as Alastor Moody) In 1994 to cease the weather effect of the Great Hall's Ceiling insisting it is broken as he told Dumbledore to "Fix his ceiling". Mobiliarbus Type: Charm Pronunciation: mo-bil-lee-AR-bus Description: Levitates wooden objects a few inches off of the ground and moves them in any given direction. Seen/Mentioned: In 1993, Hermione Granger used the spell to move a Christmas Tree in The Three Broomsticks beside her table to hide Harry Potter, who was in Hogsmeade illegally. Etymology: Latin mobilis, "movable" or "flexible", and arbor (alternatively arbos), "tree". Notes: It is possible that Mobilicorpus and Mobiliarbus are variations of the same basic spell, since they share the "Mobili-" stem.
Mobilicorpus Type: Charm Pronunciation: moh-bil-lee-COR-pus Description: Levitates and moves bodies. Seen/Mentioned: Sirius Black used it on Severus Snape in 1994. It was probably used on Peter Pettigrew by Lord Voldemort in the graveyard to make him come forward. Etymology: Latin mobilis, "movable", and corpus, "body". Morsmordre Type: Dark charm Pronunciation: morz-MOR-druh Description: Conjures the Dark Mark, which is the sign of the Death Eaters. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Bartemius Crouch Junior in 1994. Also seen in 1997 over Hogwarts castle to lure Albus Dumbledore to his death. It was apparently invented by Lord Voldemort. Etymology: Latin mors, "death", and mordere, meaning "to bite" (or its French derivative mordre); this would appear to be associated with the name of Lord Voldemort's followers, the Death Eaters. The English murder might also contribute. Notes: A possible translation might be "take a bite out of death", a fitting phrase for Death Eaters.
Mucus ad Nauseam (Curse of the Bogies) Type: Curse Pronunciation: MYOO-kus ahd NAW-zee-um Description: Gives the victim a nasty cold and an extremely runny nose that can cause the victim to collapse if it is not treated. Used in 1998 when Harry was in the passage beneath the Whomping Willow which leads to the Shrieking Shack. Lumos's power can be arranged so that a powerful wizard can make the charm illuminate intensely or to the wizards liking by loudness of incantation. For example "LUMOS!!!" would be powerful and "lumos" would be weaker. Also used by Harry Potter in 1998 to turn off the light so he could hide the Marauder's Map from Severus Snape. Etymology: Latin nox, meaning "night".
Nebulus Type: Charm Pronunciation: NEH-bu-lus Description: Creates fog from the tip of the wand. Obliviate (Memory Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: oh-BLI-vee-ate Description: Erases specific memories. Seen/Mentioned: First seen in 1993 when used by Gilderoy Lockhart on Harry and Ron; the spell backfired due to a faulty wand, costing Lockhart most of his own memory. Also, Hermione Granger used this spell to wipe her parents memories in 1997. Again, it was used in 1997 when Hermione Granger used the spell on 2 Death Eaters who had followed Harry, Ron, and Hermione after their escape from Bill Weasley's and Fleur Delacour's wedding. Etymology: Latin oblivisci, "forget". The spell is most often used against Muggles who have seen something of the Wizarding world. Notes: Invented by Mnemone Radford, who became the Ministry's first Obliviator. The Ministry of Magic employees assigned to modifying the memories of Muggles are called Obliviators. The charm can be broken by powerful magic, or extreme duress, as Lord Voldemort was able to torture Bertha Jorkins into remembering details that Barty Crouch Snr had forced her to forget using the charm. In this case, it was also shown that if the charm is too powerful, it can cause the target to develop a bad memory. This spell differs from the False memory charm.

Notes: A variation of this spell may have been used when Hermione Granger conjured a Christmas wreath to place on James and Lily Potter's graves in 1997.
Oscausi Type: Dark charm Pronunciation: os-SCOW-zee Description: Seal someone's mouth shut, making it appear it was never there. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Leta Lestrange on a girl from Gryffindor when they were both in their third year at Hogwarts. The Gryffindor girl was speaking ill of Lestrange behind her back until Lestrange emerged from hiding nearby, and muted the Gryffindor girl with this spell. Etymology: Possibly derived as a portmanteau of os, Latin for "mouth", and clausi (a conjugated form of claudo), Latin for "I shut". It may additionally be a pun or wordplay on scusi, the Italian interjection for "excuse me".

(Permanent Sticking Charm) Type: Charm Description: Sticks objects permanently in place. It is implied that the portrait in the Muggle Prime Minister's office also has such a charm on it. Notes: It is never said whether the charm prevents the object from being removed by cutting away the section of wall. The incantation could be gluten sempra, meaning glue forever, or adher sempra, which means stick forever, since “adhere” means “to stick”.

Petrificus Totalus (Full Body-Bind Curse) Type: Curse Pronunciation: pe-TRI-fi-cus to-TAH-lus Description: Used to temporarily bind the victim's body in a position much like that of a soldier at attention; the victim will usually fall to the ground. Seen/Mentioned: Used in 1991 by Hermione, who was trying to prevent Neville from stopping her, Ron, and Harry from leaving the common room to hunt for the Philosopher's Stone, in the Hall of Prophecy during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries to petrify Antonin Dolohov who was pursuing him and his friends, and used on Harry by Draco Malfoy in the Hogwarts Express in 1996. Point Me (Four-Point Spell) Type: Charm Description: Makes the caster's wand point due north. Seen/Mentioned: Hermione Granger taught it to Harry Potter, who used it during the Triwizard Tournament, particularly to navigate the hedge maze during the Third Task. Note: This spell may be an invention of Hermione Granger. Given that the incantation is English (whereas almost all other mentioned spells have incantations based on Latin or other old languages) and that none of the other champions of the Tournament seem to use the spell, it seems likely that Hermione invented the spell.
Portus Type: Charm Pronunciation: POR-tus Description: Turns an object into a portkey. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Albus Dumbledore in 1996. Etymology: Latin porta, meaning "gate", or portare, meaning "to carry" (as in to carry the caster or target to another location). There is a Latin word portus, meaning "harbour", but it is inappropriate in this context. Notes: Portkeys were first seen in 1994 as a means for Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys to go to the Quidditch World Cup. However, the spell used in its creation was not seen until 1995.
Prior Incantato (Reverse Spell) Type: Charm Pronunciation: pri-OR in-can-TAH-toh Description: Forces a wand to show an "echo" of the last spell it performed. Notes: Can manifest in the form of the Reverse Spell effect, or Priori Incantatem, when wands with the same core attempt to do battle. Notes (2): Apparently the spell is cumulative, with the user able to go further back and see spells that the wand performed after the latest spell. Harry suggests this in 1997. Hermione does not contradict his claim, suggesting this is true.
(Proficiency Charm) Type: Charm Description: Boosts an individual's performance with certain talents.
(Protean Charm) Type: Charm Description: Causes copies of an object to be remotely affected by changes made to the original. Seen/Mentioned: First used in 1995. Hermione Granger put the charm on a number of fake Galleons. Instead of the serial number around the edge of the coin, the time and date of the next meeting of Dumbledore's Army appeared. It is possible that this charm is used on the Death Eaters' Dark Marks. Etymology: The English word Protean derives from Proteus, a god in Greek Mythology. Proteus was a shape-shifter, able to take many forms. As a result, the word Protean has come to refer to versatility, flexibility, or an ability to assume many forms. "Protean" is also similar to "protein", derived from the same root, meaning a variable, flexible substance which forms strong bonds between its constituent parts. Notes: On Hermione's fake galleons, when the date changes, the coin becomes hot, alerting the owner to look at the coin. This may not be a feature of the original charm. It may be a Flagrante Curse, when the Protean Charm changes the coin the curse may activate. It would seem from this that you can decide what the effects on the charmed objects are. Possibly by saying something along the lines of "Protean flagrante." although this is just speculation. Notes (2): The Protean Charm is a N.E.W.T. standard charm, according to Terry Boot, who is incredulous that Hermione can perform the spell even though she is only in her fifth year (N.E.W.T.s are taken in the seventh year at Hogwarts).

Albus Dumbledore uses a similar spell which reverses the construction of glass back into sand when Voldemort sent shards of glass to try to stab Dumbledore. Fred and George Weasley enchanted hats they dubbed "shield hats" with this spell in 1997. Etymology: Latin protego, "I cover" or "I protect". Notes: The original description of this spell states that it rebounds minor jinxes to the caster. However, it is shown that it can also be used to reflect or lessen the effects of more powerful spells, depending on the skill of the caster. In 1998, it is also shown to be able to create a sort of force-field across an area, and is used frequently to prevent two participants in an argument from reaching each other.
Protego Diabolica Type: Dark Arts Pronunciation: pro-TAY-goh dia-BOHL-i-cub Description: Conjures a protective ring of black fire around the caster that only affects their enemies.

Seen/Mentioned: In 1997, Harry Potter, after checking his Blackthorn wand on the Bluebell Flames with Engorgio, casts this spell to shorten the formerly enlarged flames. Etymology: English reduce, "to shrink". (Latin has a verb reducere, present tense reduco. This is the source of the English "reduce", but has a different meaning.) Also in Italian Riduco first person present tense of Ridurre, same root of Latin Reducere. Notes: Whether Reducio could also be used by itself rather than countering Engorgio is unknown. If it could, it would shrink normal sized items into miniature versions of themselves. References in 1992 by Arthur Weasley to "shrinking door keys" make this seem likely.
Reducto (Reductor Curse) Type: Curse Pronunciation: re-DUK-toh Description: Breaks objects. In stronger usages, disintegrates them. Seen/Mentioned: In 1995, Harry used it on one of the hedges of the Triwizard maze and ends up burning a small hole in it; in 1995, Gryffindors in Harry Potter's year referenced Parvati Patil as being able to reduce a table full of Dark Detectors to ashes, and Harry and his friends later used the spell in the Department of Mysteries against the Death Eaters, shattering many Prophecy Orbs in the process; in 1997, a member of the Order of the Phoenix attempted to use this spell to break down a door which Death Eaters had blocked when the Death Eaters had cornered Dumbledore in the Lightning Struck Tower. Etymology: English reduce, "to bring down;destroy".
(Refilling Charm) Type: Charm Description: Refills whatever the caster points at with the drink originally in the container. Seen/Mentioned: Used in 1996, when Harry noticed that Hagrid and Slughorn were running out of wine.
Reparifors Type: Healing Spell Pronunciation: re-PAR-i-fors Description: Reverts minor magically-induced ailments, such as paralysis and poisoning.
Reverte Type: Charm Pronunciation: ree-VUHR-tay Description: Returns objects to their original positions or states. Seen/Mentioned: In 1927, Leta Lestrange used this spell on the record towers in the French Ministry of Magic Records Room at the French Ministry of Magic Headquarters, in an attempt to flee from pursuing Matagots. This sent all the record towers - previously summoned by Lestrange - flying backwards and spinning back into their original positions in the ground. Etymology: Reverte is derived from Latin for "you shall return", being a second-person imperative form (singular, present, active) of the verb reverto ("I return, or turn back").
Relashio (Revulsion Jinx) Type: Jinx Pronunciation: ruh-LASH-ee-oh Description: Forces the target to release its grip on whatever it is holding. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Harry Potter against Grindylows in the second task of the Triwizard Tournament. Also used in 1997 and 1998, when Hermione used this spell to free Mary Cattermole from the chained chair and to free the Ukrainian Ironbelly on which they were to get out from Gringotts. Etymology: Probably from the French verb relâcher ="to release, to set free", or Italian rilascio (pronounced the same way as the spell)= "I release".
Rennervate (Reviving Spell) Type: Charm Pronunciation: RENN-a-vate Description: Awakens an unconscious victim. It is consequently the counter-charm to the Stunning Spell. Seen/Mentioned: In 1994, Amos Diggory used it to wake up Winky and Albus Dumbledore used it to wake up Viktor Krum. Harry Potter later used it to try and reawaken a cursed Dumbledore in the seaside cave. Etymology: Rennervate means "to energise.
Reparifarge Type: Untransfiguration Pronunciation: reh-PAR-i-farj Description: Used to reverse incomplete transformations. Seen/Mentioned: Found in A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration.
Reparo (Mending Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: reh-PAH-roh Description: Seamlessly repairs broken objects. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Albus Dumbledore and Horace Slughorn to repair damage the latter had done to a Muggle home in Budleigh Babberton where he had been hiding. It was also used by Harry Potter to repair his wand with the Elder Wand Etymology: Latin reparo meaning "to renew" or "repair". Notes: Reparo has been seen to repair non-magical items, however it seems to have an inability at repairing magical items or items that have magic placed upon them. An example is Harry's Nimbus 2000 shown in 1993 which he is told is irreparable after it is destroyed by the Whomping Willow. Wands are also irreparable, as shown in 1992 when Ron's wand snapped after he and Harry crashed onto the Hogwarts grounds. Despite his use of Spellotape, Ron's wand malfunctioned throughout the year. Another example is in 1997 when Hermione tried to fix Harry's broken wand, which was snapped by her errant Blasting Curse. However, Harry repaired his wand with the Elder Wand. Since the Elder Wand is the most powerful wand in creation, it makes sense that it would produce the most powerful Mending Charm.
Repello Muggletum (Muggle-Repelling Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: ruh-PEL-oh MUH-guhl-tuhm Description: Keeps Muggles away from wizarding places by causing them to remember important meetings they missed and to cause the Muggles in question to forget what they were doing. Seen/Mentioned: It was used to keep Muggles away from the Quidditch World Cup. Hogwarts was also said to be guarded by the Muggle-Repelling Charm. It was also used by Harry and Hermione on numerous occasions, among many other spells, to protect and hide their camp site in 1997.
Repello Inimicum Type: Charm Pronunciation: re-PEH-lloh ee-nee-MEE-cum Description: Disintegrates the persons entering this charm. Seen/Mentioned: This spell was used by professors Filius Flitwick and Horace Slughorn along with Order of the Phoenix member Molly Weasley to protect Hogwarts Castle in 1998. Etymology: Latin "Repello", meaning "Push Back" and "inimicum", the accusative singular form of "inimīcus" meaning "foe" or "enemy".
Revelio (Revelio Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: reh-VEL-ee-oh Description: Reveals secrets about a person or object.
Reversis Description: Unknown effect.
Rictusempra (Tickling Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: ric-tuhs-SEM-pra Description: Tickles the target until they become weak with laughter. Seen/Mentioned: By Harry Potter on Draco Malfoy in 1992, when they fought in the Duelling Club. Etymology: Possibly the sum of two words; The Latin rictus, meaning "The expanse of an open mouth", and semper, meaning "Always". Rictus is generally used as an expression of terror, however, "always an open mouth" would, in most cases, correspond to the act of laughing uncontrollably. Riddikulus (Boggart Banishing Spell) Type: Charm Pronunciation: rih-dih-KUL-lus Description: A spell used when fighting a Boggart, "Riddikulus" forces the Boggart to take the appearance of an object the caster is focusing on. Best results can be achieved if the caster is focusing on something humorous, with the desire that laughter will weaken the Boggart. Seen/Mentioned: Taught by Remus Lupin during third year Defence Against the Dark Arts, where his students had the opportunity to practise the spell on an actual Boggart. Etymology: Latin word ridiculus, "laughable" (but perhaps "absurd" or "silly" in this context). Notes: The effect of the spell seems to rely primarily on the state of mind of the caster. It doesn't actually change the shape of a boggart into something humorous, but rather whatever the caster is concentrating on at the moment of the casting, as when Neville was thinking of his grandmother's dress. Presumably, Mrs Weasley couldn't take her mind off of her fears for her family, so the Boggart was changed into other members of the family rather than something humorous.
(Rose Growth) Type: Transfiguration Description: Causes rosebushes grow at an unusually fast pace. Notes: This spell may be related to Herbivicus.
(Rowboat spell) Type: Charm Description: Makes boats row themselves. Seen/mentioned: Hagrid used the spell on the row-boats at Hogwarts, to transport the First years from Hogsmeade station to the Boathouse. It may also have been the spell that he used to propel the row-boat that he used to take Harry from the Hut-on-the-Rock back to the mainland in 1991.
Salvio hexia Type: Charm Pronunciation: SAL-vee-oh HECKS-ee-ah Description: Protects against hexes. Etymology: Possibly derived from the Latin "salveo," meaning "to be in good health," and used as a form of greeting and farewell, and a pseudo-Latin derivative of the English word "hex"—hence, "Farewell, hexes!" Seen/Mentioned: Harry and Hermione cast this spell to strengthen their camp-site's defences against intruders in 1997. Notes: Possibly the Hex Deflection spells the fake Moody mentioned in 1994.
(Sardine Hex) Type: Dark charm Description: Makes the victim sneeze out sardines. Seen/Mentioned: Rubeus Hagrid once had this spell used on him.
(Sauce-making spell) Type: Conjuration Description: Conjures a creamy sauce from the tip of the wand. Seen/Mentioned: Molly Weasley used this spell in August of 1994 to pour some sauce in a pot to make dinner for her family, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger. Notes: According to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration, food can't be conjured. This implies that sauce is not considered "good food," as things suitable for consumption may created with the spell, such as birds.
Scourgify (Scouring Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: SKUR-ji-fy Description: Cleans objects Seen/Mentioned: First used by Nymphadora Tonks to clean Hedwig's cage in 1995. Later, Ginny Weasley performed the spell to clean up the Stinksap on the Hogwarts Express, also used by James Potter on Severus Snape after he shouted various curses and obscenities at him. Etymology: Perhaps related to English scour, "clean". -ify is a common English suffix meaning "to make …". Therefore scourgify could mean "to make clean".
(Sealant Charm) Type: Charm Description: Magically seals envelopes. Seen/Mentioned: All applicants for wand permits in the United States were required by the Magical Congress of the United States of America to close the envelope in which they sent their applications back to the Wand Permit Office with this spell. Notes: This may be the parchment-sealing spell that Dolores Umbridge used in 1995.
(Sea urchin jinx) Type: Jinx Description: This spell begins to transform the victim into a sea urchin. Seen/Mentioned: This spell was used on 2 May, 1998, during the Battle of Hogwarts, by Percy Weasley on an Imperiused Pius Thicknesse.
Sectumsempra Type: Curse Pronunciation: sec-tum-SEMP-rah Description: Lacerates the target, as if they have been "slashed by a sword." Subsequently, the target can easily bleed to death from the wounds. This curse was invented by Severus Snape, to be used against his personal enemies. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Harry in 1997 against Draco Malfoy, and then later against both the Inferi in Lord Voldemort's Horcrux cave, and Snape used it against George Weasley (was unintentional; aimed for a Death Eater that tried to curse Lupin) in the Order's flight from Privet Drive. Harry learned it in Snape's old Potions textbook. In 1998, the spell is said to be Severus Snape's "signature" spell. Etymology: Latin sectum, "cut", and semper, "always". Notes: The spell can apparently be used against any object, but was not effective when used against Inferi because they could not feel pain or bleed. The movement of the wand seems to affect how someone is cut, suggested by the erratic patterns of slashes left on Draco Malfoy's face and chest, produced by Harry Potter's wild wand-swings while using the spell against Draco. Wounds caused by this spell can be healed as proved by Severus Snape who after Harry hit Draco Malfoy with this spell he healed Draco's wounds and told him to go and get treated with dittany at once so that he would even avoid any sign of any wound. However it seems that it depends on the caster's magical abilities because Molly Weasley could not heal and restore George Weasley's ear that was cursed off by this spell.
(Shield penetration spell) Type: Spell Pronunciation: unknown Description: Annihilates magical enchantments and shields. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Voldemort to break the enchantments placed around Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1998 by Filius Flitwick, Minerva McGonagall, and Molly Weasley.
(Shooting Spell) Type: Spell Description: Used to shoot objects Seen/Mentioned: This spell was used by Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley in 1997 on their Horcrux hunt in an attempt to catch a rabbit for food.
(Smashing spell) Type: Spell Description: Produces explosions
Serpensortia (Snake Summons Spell) Type: Conjuration Pronunciation: ser-pen-SOR-shah, SER-pehn-SOR-tee-ah Description: Conjures a serpent from the caster's wand. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Draco Malfoy while duelling Harry Potter in 1992. Etymology: Latin serpens meaning "a snake" and Latin ortis meaning "source".
Silencio (Silencing Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: sih-LEN-see-oh Description: Makes something silent. Seen/Mentioned: First used by Hermione in 1996 to silence a frog and a raven in Charms class, then later used to silence a Death Eater that was trying to tell his comrades where they were. Etymology: Probably Latin silentium, "silence". Also, silencio and silêncio (which is closer to the English pronunciation) mean "silence" in Spanish and Portuguese, respectively.

(Slippery Jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Makes an object slippery and difficult to hold. Seen/Mentioned:

(Sonorous Charm) Type: Charm Description: This charm emits a magnified roar from the tip of the wand. This noise disrupts all in its path, and can even be used to harm opponents. Notes: Not to be confused with the Amplifying Charm, Sonorus.
Sonorus (Amplifying Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: soh-NOHR-uhs Description: Makes the target sound louder. The counter-charm is the Quietening Charm, Quietus. Seen/Mentioned: By Ludo Bagman in 1994 at the beginning of the Quidditch World Cup and by Albus Dumbledore several times in the Triwizard Championship. Used by Lord Voldemort several times during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998. Etymology: Latin sonorus, "loud; noisy".
Specialis Revelio Type: Charm Pronunciation: spe-see-AL-is reh-VEL-ee-oh Description: Reveals spells cast on objects or potions. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Hermione Granger to find out more of Harry's Advanced Potion-Making book in 1996. Used by Ernie Macmillan to find out ingredients of a potion. Etymology: Latin specialis, "particular;individual" and revelare (present tense revelo), "unveil". Notes: In 1994, Severus Snape cast a similar spell, but with different words ("Reveal your secrets!"), on the Marauder's Map, though he may have just been saying those words as he cast the spell non-verbally.
(Sponge-Knees Curse) Type: Curse Description: Makes the target's legs spongy, making it difficult for them to walk. Seen/Mentioned: Used during the September 1999 riot that took place at a Puddlemere vs. Holyhead Harpies match. The Puddlemere supporters used this curse against the Holyhead Harpies supporters in retaliation to the Jelly-Brain Jinx. Notes: This spell is similar in effect to the Jelly-Legs Curse.
Spongify (Softening Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: SPUN-ji-fye Description: Softens objects, making them rubbery and bouncy. Seen/Mentioned: This charm is found in The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1.

Steleus Type: Dark charm Pronunciation: STEH-lee-us, or perhaps STEH-nee-us Description: A spell that causes the victim to sneeze for a short period of time. This spell is used in duelling to distract the opponent. Etymology: Sternius derives from the Latin sternuo, meaning I sneeze.
(Stinging Jinx) Type: Jinx, Hex Description: Stings the flesh of a target. This spell is also known as Seen/Mentioned: Harry Potter inadvertently used one on Severus Snape during Occlumency lessons in 1996. It was non-debilitating in that instance, but it is stronger when intentionally cast, as shown by the results of Hermione Granger's Stinging Hex used on Harry Potter in 1998 to purposefully distort Harry's appearance. Notes: Also known as the Stinging Hex.
(Stretching Jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Stretches the target. Seen/Mentioned: Molly Weasley remarked in 1996 that recent growth spurts had made her son Ron and his friend, Harry Potter, look as if this jinx had been cast upon them both.
Stupefy (Stunning Spell) Type: Charm Pronunciation: STOO-puh-fye Description: Stuns the target, rendering them unconscious. Seen/Mentioned: Often; particularly by a number of wizards and witches (including Dolores Umbridge) against Minerva McGonagall in 1996. It's also taught by Harry in his D.A. meetings. Etymology: English stupefy, which means 'to put into a stupor', a temporary vegetative state. Notes: The physical manifestation of the spell is a beam of red light emanating from the caster's wand. The spell wears off after a short time, and can be countered by Rennervate. Nearly useless on magic-resistant creatures such as dragons, trolls and giants unless more than one Stupefy spell is used at the same time. The force of the spell is additive or perhaps even exponential, and it can cause severe injury if many spells are used on a target that is not normally resistant to its effects. Hagrid, as a half-giant, was impervious to this spell - or at least, a lone one.
(Supersensory Charm) Type: Charm Description: Grants the caster to have enhanced senses, or to be able to sense things they would not normally sense. Seen/Mentioned: In 1927, Newton Scamander used Surgito to lift an enchantment that was placed on Jacob Kowalski. As a result of the spell, Kowalski awoke from the dreamlike enchanted state, and regained an awareness of reality in the present. Etymology: Surgito is a Latin word in the imperative form meaning "you/he/she shall arise, or get up", and is a conjugation of the verb surgo ("I arise"). The etymology is appropriate, considering that the effects of the spell on Jacob Kowalski can be likened to waking up from a confused, dreamlike state.
(Switching Spell) Type: Transfiguration Description: Switches two targets simultaneously. Seen/Mentioned: Harry contemplated using this spell against his dragon in the first task of the Triwizard Tournament. He considered swapping its fangs for wine gums. Neville Longbottom misuses the spell, transplanting his ears onto a cactus.
Taboo Type: Jinx Description: A jinx which may be placed upon a word or a name, so that whenever that word is spoken, a magical disturbance is created which alerts the caster of the Taboo to the location of the speaker. Any protective enchantments in effect around the speaker are broken when the Tabooed word is spoken aloud. Seen/Mentioned: This jinx was placed on the word "Voldemort"; Harry, Ron and Hermione are tracked this way to Tottenham Court Road. Ron tells the other two to stop using the word as he began to fear the name might be a curse, later discovering it to be a Taboo. Later, Harry accidentally says Voldemort's name again, resulting in the trio being caught by Death Eaters and taken to Malfoy Manor.
(Tail-growing spell) Type: Hex Description: Causes the victim to grow a tail. Seen/Mentioned: When Miranda Goshawk had her Book of Spells printed, she gave copies to her sisters that had various misprints in them; one such misprint somehow gave her sister Romilda a tail. Notes: This is a hex that is probably not approved by the Ministry of Magic, as it was invented by Severus Snape.
(Transmogrifian Torture) Type: Curse Description: Possibly tortures the victim to death. Seen/Mentioned: Gilderoy Lockhart suggested that it was this curse that "killed" Mrs Norris after she was really found petrified on a torch bracket. Etymology: English "transmogrify", meaning "to change or alter greatly, often to grotesque effect", possibly implying that the curse changes the shape of the victim to cause pain. Notes: The incantation to this curse is possibly Transmogrify.
Tribuomnus (Inn Charm) Type: Charm Description: Causes the quality of food within a location to be improved.
(Trip Jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Forces the target to trip and fall over. Seen/Mentioned: Seen in 1996. It was cast successfully on Harry Potter by Draco Malfoy, when he and other members of the Inquisitorial Squad attempted to round up members of Dumbledore's Army.

Seen/Mentioned: Severus Snape cast this spell in 1992 at the Duelling Club to vanish a snake that Draco Malfoy had conjured while duelling Harry Potter. Albus Dumbledore also used this spell to vanish Voldemort's snake during their Duel in the Ministry Atrium. Etymology: Vipera is a genus of venomous vipers, a type of snake. Evanesca likely shares its origin with Evanesco, which means "disappear" in Latin. It is the counter-curse to Sectumsempra. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Severus Snape to heal the wounds of Draco Malfoy caused by the Sectumsempra curse cast by Harry Potter in 1997. Etymology: Vulnera Sanentur derives from the Latin vulnus, "wound," and sanare, "to heal"; it is translated "may the wounds be healed."
Waddiwasi Type: Charm Pronunciation: wah-deh-WAH-see Description: Used to shoot small, soft masses of whatever the caster so desires at the target Seen/Mentioned: Cast by Remus Lupin in 1993, on Peeves the Poltergeist, sending a wad of chewing gum up his nose. Etymology: "Waddiwasi" comes from two words. "Vadd" and "vas-y". "Vadd" is a Swedish word that can mean "wadding" and "vas-y" is French term that means "go ahead" or "Come on!" Etymology: "Wingardium" almost certainly contains English wing, meaning "fly", and Latin arduus, meaning "high". "Leviosa" probably originates from Latin levis, meaning "light".

Seen/Mentioned: Following the American National Quidditch team's win at the semi-finals of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup against Liechtenstein, red, white and blue sparks filled the air so thickly it was difficult to see or breathe. Notes: The incantation to this spell is almost certainly Baubillious.

"Noir's Field Trip" Masterpost
I thought it might be useful to have a separate Masterpost of all my content/propaganda for Noir related to the Kirby OC Tournament.
This is also a reminder that...
[Noir is open for asks/interactions!]
(At least for the length of the tournament!)
(So people can get in touch with you, silly boy!)
[Bring On The Noir!!]
Updated: August 22nd
Apparently, this post reached the maximum number of links you can include in a Tumblr post. As a result, I'm unable to link to the last twelve Noir's Field Trip posts... The only one that was particularly relevant in a significant lore way was the written summary of the Shiver Star Arc and the second Raquelle ask “No More Turning Back” which I managed to squeeze in; also a response hinting at Noir’s pre-corruption body count, which you can find back linked in the bottom of that post.

*Due to an injury, I decided to finish Apologies early. This post summarizes the remaining major plot beats of the tournament arc as well as the mechanics by which Noir would be resurrected and reunited with his new family on Dream Land.

Pyrrha: Who's there?! Are you- Jaune?!
Jaune: Whoa, whoa! Easy, Pyrrha! It's me. Your friend.
Pyrrha: What's going on? Why- How are you here?!
Jaune: It's a long story, but I can give you a short version. There's different timelines, alternate universes, and I'm from one of them.
Pyrrha: Then... Are you..?
Jaune: The new All-God of Remnant? Yeah.
Pyrrha: But... But that's not possible! There's only supposed to be one All-God!
Jaune: When I was fighting against Cinder for the Brother's magic, our universe was destroyed, but it caused a ripple effect across the timeline, splintering events to different, but similar outcomes, with the end result of someone becoming the All-God. Where I'm from, I became the All-God. Meanwhile in yours, you became the All-God. In others, Cinder became the All-God, or it was Ruby, or maybe even Nora. There's an endless amount of alternate universes where anything could happen.
Pyrrha: Then... Then if there are infinite alternate universes... and you remember everything you said... and me, then.... then you're...
Jaune: The same boy you pinned to the locker room wall. The same one you later pinned to the tree. The same one who was at Beacon as your leader, your friend, your partner. The one you trained on the rooftop every night until the Vytal Tournament. And the one who kept his word to make you smile.
Pyrrha: ...
Pyrrha: (Rushes in, Kisses him, Crying)
Jaune: (Holds her)

Here it is… a Liu Kang edit that has been sitting in my brain for months. First time doing a video clip edit, and wasn’t too worried on perfectly cropping out water marks or the assistive touch button from the clips.
Song is Alleluia by Mixtape for the Milky Way (an album by artist Jeremy Messersmith).
Clips screen recorded from videos by: MKIce&Fire, Gamer’s Little Playground, GameChannel, KCarves GamingTheatre, and the MK Legends animated movies.
[Base video description: an edit of Liu Kang throughout the Mortal Kombat games set to the bridge of Alleluia by Mixtape for the Milky Way. /end video description]
In depth video description with lyrics and associated shots below cut.
[Video description:
The video begins with somber but simple piano notes backed by liminal sounding strings. The scene shows Liu Kang after his defeat of Kronika, pushing her glass body down to shatter. To the rhythm of the piano, she hits the ground, and he blinks, looking back to see Raiden behind him.
Lyrics: I remember crying softly in the canyon, Whispering your name but nothing really happened.
Clip: Liu Kang runs to a dying Kitana’s side, the shot cutting to Lord Raiden looking regretful before it goes back to Liu Kang looking bitter as he holds her dead hand.
Lyrics: Everything I thought I was began to shatter.
Clips: a rapid cut of shots showing Liu Kang standing next to Lord Raiden, from Mortal Kombat 9 at the tournament, to Mortal Kombat 10 where it flashes back to them freeing the shaolin monks, to Mortal Kombat 9 again where they visit the elder gods.
Lyric: All the fairy tales every ever after.
Clip: Mortal Kombat 11’s flashback to Raiden stopping Liu Kang from fighting Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat 9.
Lyric: Tried to take a breath but felt like I was drowning.
Clip: a shot of a bloodied Liu Kang reaching for Kitana after their defeat by Shao Kahn and Sindel in Mortal Kombat 11.
Lyrics: Opened up my eyes to starlight all around me. Multiverses shone like gold dust in the ocean.
Clips: A rotating shot zooming in on Liu Kang standing in the cosmic space of the hourglass, followed by a zoom through galactic clusters of stars.
Lyric: I can see my whole life infinite and open.
Clip: a shot from Liu Kang’s Mortal Kombat 11 ending where he as a god stares at an image of his mortal self.
Lyrics: Now I am a baby, sick and barely breathing. Every single footstep following a feeling
Clips: A shot of baby Liu Kang being cradled by Raiden from the Battle of the realms animated movie, followed by a scene of Liu Kang jumping between enemies while older and flipping one to the ground from the animated Scorpion’s Revenge movie in the same universe.
Lyric: Homesick for a home that I will never see.
Clip: A shot from Liu Kang’s Mortal Kombat 11 ending showing him and Kitana leaning in for a kiss while living a life of simple pleasures.
Lyric: And trying to be someone I will never be.
Clip: a panning up shot of a Liu Kang statue from the Snow Blind animated movie.
Lyric: Now I am a child singing in the choir.
Clip: Liu Kang, Raiden, and Kung Lao from 11 walk together. Liu Kang swats Kung Lao playfully.
Lyric: Preacher in the pulpit spitting tongues of fire.
Clip: A shot of Fire God Liu Kang emerging from a blazing cloud in the final fight of 11, his eyes crackling.
Lyric: Now I'm on my deathbed begging for forgiveness.
Clip: Raiden cradling Liu Kang after his death in 9.
Lyric: Galaxies revolve with no one there to witness.
Clip: A shot pushing through cosmic clouds, the camera twisting.
Lyric: I see every timeline where I have a father.
Clips: Several shots of Liu Kang and Lord Raiden, from the animated movies, Mortal Kombat 9, and Raiden’s emergence from the time merger in 11.
Lyric: Every past and future where I have a daughter.
Clips: a shot of Cassie Cage followed by a shot of Jacqui Briggs and Jax.
Lyric: Sometimes I'm a villain.
Clip: Revenant Liu Kang stands up and smirks.
Lyric: sometimes I'm a martyr.
Clip: Shang Tsung snaps Liu Kang’s neck in deadly alliance.
Lyric: High on wishful thinking drinking holy water.
Clip: a slow panning shot down to the circle of the elder gods in 9.
Lyric: Every life I play the hand that I was given.
Clips: Rapid shots of early game select screens hovering on Liu kang.
Lyric: Every pain is destined right from the beginning.
Clips: The amalgam fight from 11 of Liu Kang and Lord Raiden fighting across timelines repeatedly.
Lyric: Started with a bang some fireworks and flashes. Nothing I can do but scatter all the ashes. Alleluia.
Clip: A grain of hourglass sand falling slowly before bursting into glowing dust on the word “Alleluia” before the screen cuts to black.

"That Really Happened?!" DC Comics Tournament Entry #23
Wally Mobius Manhattan West
[ID: Cropped comic panel of Wally West as the Flash but in a blue suit sitting on the Mobius Chair. He has one hand to his head, and the other conjures an image of a house. /END ID]
What Happened?
Alright. So. The Mobius Chair. In post-Flashpoint continuity, the Mobius Chair wasn't made by Metron, but by Mobius the Anti-Monitor (which I have beef with, but will set aside for the time being). So it was already all powerful. Then Metron took it across the multiverse in his pursuit of knowledge, and the chair gained basically all the information that's ever existed in past, present and future, as well as in realities that didn't end up coming to exist. Then one day when some other shit was going down, Wonder Woman lasso'd Metron out of the chair and Batman took it for a while. Then finally Metron got it back and made a deal with Owlman on the moon to give it to him. So at this points it's changed hands a number of times, and all the while has absorbed a shitton of knowledge in the process. Next thing you know, Metron and Owlman are steaming piles of dust. The End. Or is it?
Cut to everyone's favorite, Heroes in Crisis. We're not going to get into all that because it's not the point here, but it matters because it's why Wally was in jail at the start of Flash Forward and was at a pretty low point in his life. But not to worry, the Mobius Chair told (?) Tempus Fuginaut to do some shenanigans to convince Wally to sit on it (and also save his family and this and that, you know how it is). Though reluctant, Wally does decide to sit on the chair. When this happens, he is imbued with ALL the knowledge the chair has absorbed. So like, that's a lot right? Yeah. But what we weren't shown because it was implied, is that Dr. Manhattan was the one who took the chair on the moon, so not only does Wally get everything the chair already had, but ALSO Dr Manhattans powers. Wally immediately becomes blue and starts sitting like the biggest douche in history because I guess that's just what the chair does to people lmao. And he becomes not only the fastest man alive, but also the most knowledgeable and arguably most powerful. He literally fixes the multiverse.
And then it's like "To be continued in Generation Zero" which didn't even get put out because free comic book day got all hecked up due to Covid. But it did get printed in the Flash Forward trade paperback, and idk the Batman Who Laughs shows up, and tbh that's about where I lose steam on this whole thing.
BUT the point is... even though continuity got kind of rewritten, Wally in his infinite ability to transcend reboots, has been hinted at (or maybe even outright said) that he still retains the Mobius Chair/Dr Manhattan knowledge in current times. So that's pretty darn fascinating.

Guess That Ship Tournament S5: Finals
Keep your enemies close
A and B are childhood friends from wealthy/powerful families. However when A gets older his political opinions change drastically and he disowns his mother and creates an anarchist biker gang. Meanwhile B's father dies so he takes over his company and becomes powerful. A and B begin to have conflicts from their differing beliefs. A sees them as fundamentally opposed to one another while B sees it as them using different approaches towards the same goal.
Things between them escalate and they end up fighting against each other, culminating with B sending his men to beat A into a coma. When A wakes up, he goes on a revenge quest against B and the two of them try to kill each other a few times, but both are unable to. B admits that given countless times he could never kill A because he still sees him as a friend despite everything. A points a gun at B and B tells him to kill him but something in A prevents him from doing so. A, unable to kill B but not able to let him walk free due to the threat he poses, decides on returning the favor and putting him in a coma instead.
The most unbearable people on the planet go on a roadtrip through hell
Found family can consist of anything and anyone; found family can also consist of 12 temporarily immortal employees, a worried manager who lost their head (figuratively and literally), a tired guide and his adoptive child who happens to drive a man-eating, magical bus as well as said man-eating, magical bus. And what’s worse is that they’re probably the most unbearable people on the planet – all stuck in that damn bus.
Even so, they travel throughout a variety of broken districts and cities, making various attempts in fulfilling the requests of citizens and alike – albeit in their own chaotic and messy way. Along the ride they struggle, fight each other, share laughs, comfort one another as well as discover each other's pasts and regrets. Despite their differences and conflicts, in this hellish world they live in, they'll learn to depend on each other and survive together as co-workers (and as a broken but healing family).
Because even through the infinite possibilities, billions of timelines, as well as countless alternate universes they reach through, they'll always and inevitably be stuck as co-workers – whether they like it or not.
(Ahem... if I can ask my fellow tournament runners to campaign for this on their personal blog instead of their tournament blog, that'd be appreciated.)

Gay wrongs tournament, round one of the losers bracket
Propaganda:
For Lord Boxman and Professor Venomous:
Canon supervillain power couple <3
Gay peoplrrrr
For Heavy and Medic:
Unhinged mercenaries waging unending war
They're so deeply in gay love that gameplay-wise they're one of the most formidable threats in the game when together. This is because gay love is the most powerful force in the world, which allows them to do so much murder. In the comic, Heavy goes berserk and kills the heavy weapons expert of the Team Fortress Classic team after he kills Medic, and Medic escapes death by swindling the devil. He stole the Team Fortress Classic team's souls by surgically extracting them and sewing them into himself, so even though he already sold his soul, the devil doesn't have the majority of his soul because he has 8 more.

I'm sure everyones pretty curious on the tree! 3) ....and do you have any up to no good ulterior motives? O_O or is this all just for fun
