I think what i'm really loving about the phandom right now is how responsive it is and how it feels like we and dip and pip are all weaving a story together
blonde Phil is a great example: phil posts the phlonde on instagram, we all freak out and start shipping blonde phil with sister daniel, dan freaks out about how that doesn't make sense in the phan twitter video, tumblr retorts that actually it does make sense because phil is putting on a persona in that photo, and then dan and phil respond to that in dan's birthday livestream, ultimately leading to the introduction of father phillip
there are so many other recent examples -- like we see the automatic smart bin in the back of the shuffleboard video, pj mentions how it's voice activated in a stream, someone mentions it to dan at the bath book event, people make memes about it, dnp react to those memes and its becomes part of The Lore
anyways i feel like this whole phagenda thing is really an outcropping of that -- we get excited that somethings coming so dnp get excited about hinting about it so we get more excited and it's all this big responsive feedback loop and i'm loving it

This is a pure realism thing and I love the detail because it never really comes up, but how Joong plays Fadel as being so sensitive to touch.
You know who jerks to touch like that? Touch starved people who aren't used to it.

Just spent all day facilitating a citizens’ assembly and whew, I am exhausted but so inspired. You see ordinary people, who don’t seem radical or political, coming up with ideas for free public transport and a sharing economy, calling for rewilding and housing security for all. The public are so incredible when you just give people a voice and let them know their opinion matters. I really think direct democracy could change the world, but only if it’s given the power and influence to actually inform legislation

When building a spear, what matters: you, building or the spear?
At the recent FSNNA conference (were you there? Did we meet? If you’ve been there, the panel recordings and the discussion space is still available for a week.), Katherine Crighton, Dr. Naomi Jacobs and Shivhan Szabo introduced an online game where you can create new fanworks for your blorbo for the newest fannish sensation: Blow the Man Down. The catch is, this fannish sensation is not a TV show. The story is reverse engineered through the fanworks created for it, but in a sense, it doesn’t exist. Your blorbo also doesn’t exist. My blorbo is real cool, though, their name is Bogdán.
When it comes to fannish creation, there are some key theories to reference. Participatory culture is one, we also talk about gift economy, affective labor; can they possibly explain why we are able to act fannishly when there isn’t even a canon to be fans of? Are we experiencing real feelings for a fake blorbo because we participated in their creation, committing to this silly man? Or is it because of the nature of the work, we used fannish practices to create them, which is inherently affective? Or is it, as the presentation already points out, due to the spear theory: we build our blorbo by piercing many blorbos through and that creates our type? I dare you; play the game and let us discuss our experiences. Or if you’ve ever gonched, what did you think of it?

explaining the Fluxus participatory performance art paradigm to an American like,
ok imagine a lot of burgers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In February 1979, Marta Minujín wrote to the McDonald’s Corporation to request sponsorship for a project: “I write to you because I have an idea to be made with hamburgers.” Minujín planned to build an iron replica of the Statue of Liberty and install it lying down in New York’s Battery Park, a dormant icon awaiting revival. Visitors would be able to enter the sculpture and traverse walkways inside it. On the tenth day of the presentation, the artist proposed to stage a huge free lunch for the public, during which McDonald’s employees would ascend fire truck ladders and plaster the statue with hamburger patties, which would then be grilled by flamethrowers.

Irish people will go on trips to continental Europe and be like "oh these cities are so vibrant and lively and nice to spend time in" and then come home and froth with rage at plans for pedestrianisation, outdoor seating, or active travel.

A tiny Italian professor spent 60 minutes explaining fandom in academic language. When he asked if anyone was in a fandom the whole lecture hall went dead quiet. Except for one person who admitted to writing star trek fanfic. I wonder what their ao3 is

Prosecutorial misconduct, case files, trials on trains, and "the truth" in Ace Attorney
Miles Edgeworth surrounded in the confidential files storage of the U.S. prosecutor’s office as he reads about the Avery Richman case While I noted in last week’s post that the 12th episode of Ace Attorney, a legal drama anime based on a video game series of the same name, included an evidence room, two episodes in the second season brings this to the fore even more directly. [1] In this post…
