Just spent all day facilitating a citizens’ assembly and whew, I am exhausted but so inspired. You see ordinary people, who don’t seem radical or political, coming up with ideas for free public transport and a sharing economy, calling for rewilding and housing security for all. The public are so incredible when you just give people a voice and let them know their opinion matters. I really think direct democracy could change the world, but only if it’s given the power and influence to actually inform legislation

Update
In brilliant news, I’ve recovered access to my messages and inbox, which means I can now resume using this blog as it was originally intended - to organise for the UK radblr community!
Less brilliant, I have lost any messages or asks that were sent to me in the period I didn’t have access. If you have contacted me at any point since the start of June, please reach out again and I’ll be happy to help.
And of course - if you are interested in meeting other radical feminist/rad leaning women near you, reach out, and we can start planning meetings!

i'm saying it. i don't think joly would work in a hospital. i think his medical career would be informed by his politics + radicalisation and his + his friends regular drug use, he would be outraged at how the medical industry handles drug users, also at the medical industrial complex in general, so he would find a reputable community led harm reduction organisation to work for 🫶🏻

So, I've been doing some thinking. This could either be a meaningless little ramble that no one will care about, or something seen as really dangerous and putting a target on my back.
So, what if we, those most weary of the far right created an international group of activists in light of the US election? See, the thing is that Donald Trump and Elon Musk are very dangerous, but they are also very incompetent and could lead the government down a path that weakens it. It could create a very unique opportunity to address the far right problem and the US Imperialist system itself in one go. Or maybe I'm being overly ambitious.
This group I have in mind would have several purposes, such as keeping communities safe and protecting people from the harm the far right would do in the name of winning the election. Or, most importantly of all, connecting activists from all over the world and allowing us to dismantle the system as a concrete and united movement. Maybe it's just me being naive and hopeful, but maybe it's also something we've all wanted deep down but been too afraid to initialise? If so, maybe this is a sign to really stand up and start trying to make those connections.

‘’we need a revolution’’ shut up the revolution is growing your own food and sharing it with your neighbours, it’s mending and recycling your old clothes. the revolution is teaching the kids on your road how to ride bikes and playing football with your friends at the council-run public park. the revolution is building ramps and accessible *free* bathrooms. the revolution is libraries and youth centres and public transport and food banks and benefits and unions and strikes and good teachers. the revolution is ignoring shoplifters and setting up support systems for vulnerable people and challenging the biases that are stuck in your head. the revolution is fighting and protesting in every seemingly insignificant act that you do. the revolution is when you help somebody. the revolution is kindness and you are missing it.

DO NOT GIVE UP
"it's fucked, its hopeless, we're all going to die, what the hell do I do now". sums up what i've heard all day. Which, yeah, i get it. But there are things you can do.
organise. collaborate. hold on. It is easy, I know, to resign yourself to hopelessness. I am not a naturally optimistic person. I choose ruthless radical persistence because survival is rebellion.
do not catastrophise, do not engage in doomerism, and DO NOT GIVE UP. Take the time to grieve, and then pick your friends up, and keep going. We will PROTECT people at risk, we will DISRUPT the plans of those who would harm us, and we will BUILD connections with other people to help pave our way to better times.
It isn't over. It hasn't even begun. Generations haven't loved and laughed and fought and survived just for you to give up. it is unfair. it makes me so deeply angry that a man like that can be elected. but there are people all over, working with me, organising among themselves, or who have had plans in place for years. there is always a solution to a problem. ask for help when you need, offer help when you can. you are not alone.
community will get us through. sing dance shout scream laugh in the face of everything. cry if you need but never fucking give up. at your most scared, act strong.
keep loving. keep fighting.

> talking to an anarchist
> ask them if their vision for dealing with interpersonal or community violence in a society without any organisation or 'authority' is actually radical and transformative or if it's just lynch mobs
> they laugh and say "it's a good vision, you red fash"
> they explain it
> its lynch mobs

There's been a lot of support for organisations like Standing Together, B'Tselem, etc.... But this won't be solved by just Israeli organisations. The sister side of this is combating antisemitism, and here are some Arab and Muslim organisations that are doing just that, so please consider supporting them as well.
The Council of Muslims Against Antisemitism - https://stopglobalantisemitism.com/
Muslims from across the political spectrum dedicated to fighting antisemitism. Officially endorses the IHRA definition of antisemitism, and have been raising awareness of the sexual violence committed by Hamas.
American Muslim and Multifaith Women's Empowerment Council - https://ammwec.org/
Empowering Muslim women on the frontlines, their goal is to get more Muslim women involved in all facets of political life, and they worked with the Obama administration on counter-radicalization efforts.
Builders of the Middle East - https://linktr.ee/buildersofmideast
Social media initiative dedicated to promote anti-extremism, and to building a more tolerant, stable and hopeful Middle East. Funders come from across the political spectrum include Israelis and Jews, Palestinians and Muslims.
Sharaka - https://www.sharakango.com/
An NGO dedicated to young leaders in the Middle East to encourage people-to-people engagement. Includes Israelis, Arabs, Jews, Muslims, Christians and Druze.
Sharaka has an entire program to dedicated to Holocaust education, and their members were participants in the first ever official delegation of Arabs and Muslims to participate in the March of the Living.

it's "don't let yourself be radicalized" until you tell them to not support terrorist organisation or wish death onto people they see as evil.
if you think death threats are good when the person "deserves it", you're radicalized.
if you think supporting an organisation that have committed multiple crimes and is known for being terrorists, you're radicalized.
if you dehumanize the other side and believe they're evil/bloodthirsty/animals/brainwashed, you're radicalized.
if you think blind violence against regular people and small businesses is good when it's for the "right" cause, you're radicalized.
if you think children and minors are monsters for being born into a world that taught them to support the opposite side, you're radicalized.
even the most vile person on the planet is still human, if a movement tells you some people are less human because of their race, religion, gender, sexuality, or political beliefs:
YOU ARE BEING RADICALIZED.

Someone whose work I greatly appreciated and would suggest you (oh dear reader) seek out and read. In simplest terms, Scott explored the avenues in which people resisted and evaded authority and hierarchical systems of control. A good part of his scholarship involved trying to understand peasantry, one the largest "classes" in the world. Coupled to that was the study of subsistence economies and how people involved in those economies work around impositions made by State actors (and non-state actors). This led to a larger exploration of the above mentioned resistance and the various forms that this resistance took around the world. He also explored the relationship between State and non-state peoples. "What I learned is that centralised revolutionary movements have almost always resulted in a State that was more oppressive then the ones they aimed to replace. In other words, when the revolution becomes the State, it becomes my enemy again. That is why it matters greatly which methods are used in order to achieve power. .... "I am the enemy of hierarchical movements of opposition because I think they replicate State structures in their own organisation."
If you would like some suggestions that offer a peak into Scott's scholarship interests (which are similar to my own), here's some videos for you to peruse (if you have the time): 1. A Short Account of the Deep History of State Evasion 2. Beyond the Pale: The Earliest Agrarian States and “their Barbarians” 3. The Art of Not Being Governed 4. The Domestication of Fire, Animals, Grains and…….Us (Later) Edit: Some revelations concerning Scott's involvement with the CIA in the early 1960s in their anti-Communist activities has come out after his recent death that complicates his legacy as a "radical scholar". Take that for what you will. I haven't been able to find a great deal of detail about that involvement and the revelations here aren't exactly new but people have decided to highlight that relationship in the wake of Scott's passing as a way to discredit or cast a shadow over his later anti-statist research. I just wanted to note this. (Even Later) Edit: The Oral History Center at UC Berkeley released a documentary on Scott called In A Field All His Own: The Life and Career of James C. Scott. Just in case you wanted more Scott related material.
