I'm reading about how Israel, in the immediate aftermath of the 1948 Nakba, deliberately replaced olive trees and other indigenous flora with European plants. This ecological disaster, which is now proudly hailed under the banner of 'making the desert bloom,' was done to 'de-Arabize' the landscape, and to cover up - often with fast-growing European pine trees -the ruins of Palestinian villages that were destroyed by Zionists forces.
And I just need everyone to read this passage from Pappé, because the symbolism of what happened to those European pine trees in the desert speaks for itself:
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan Pappé (2006, p. 227-228.)

Following our success from busting the doors at Jaguar Sun the night before, my husband and I got on the Metromover (the amazing, free monorail that makes getting around downtown Miami much easier) to bust the doors at Over/Under because he’s positively obsessed with the smoked fish dip there.
We’ve had a lot of smoked fish dip, especially around Florida, but Over/Under’s hickory-smoked mahi-mahi that they turn into a divine dip with house pickles and hot-buttered Saltines is a dish that is in a class by itself. It’s so good, he abstained from ordering fish dips from other places we’ve been to because he wanted to save himself for how good it is at this particular bar.
Our experience here was also one for the ages, because we happened to be in downtown Miami on the first night of the Bad Bunny tour stop in Magic City, and his fans packed this place to the hilt. While I’m very happy for all of the money that Over/Under, Mama Tried, and the other downtown locations took in, I was also thrilled that I got some fun people-watching of the youths in what is not their natural habitat.
Over/Under is normally a pretty chill spot where people will swarm during their happy hour (as it’s good), and it’s also a quietly queer-friendly bar. The vibe was subdued when we got there, but things escalated about 45 minutes later when everyone in their best country cosplay came in ready to party, but credit where credit is due: they were polite as fuck, even when they were a little tipsy.
Of the three pre-concert crowds I’ve experienced this year so far on a Friday evening, here’s how I would rank them:
Bad Bunny (Miami)
Luke Bryan (Las Vegas)

The latter’s fans just gave me the ick all night and made me glad I was leaving Nashville the next morning.

i know it’s like years old at this point but i love that one collab mumbo and grian did with tommyinnit bc it’s like the single most concentrated example i’ve seen of mumbo’s Chaos Nullification Powers
you get to see a bit of it on hermitcraft, mostly via his interactions with grian, but until seeing that collab it didn’t really hit me just how completely mumbo can no-sell other people’s attempts to control a situation. tommyinnit is possibly the single shoutiest, most chaotic minecraft youtuber out there, and in most videos i’ve seen he pretty much overwhelms everyone else and sets the tone for interactions because of this. but mumbo just. doesn’t let him. no matter how much tommy escalates in intensity, mumbo reacts with *exactly* the same energy he always does. grian largely comes across in the whole video as annoyed and reluctant to engage with the whole thing, but mumbo’s not even affected. he just rolls with anything he finds funny and basically ignores anything he disapproves of, only seeming more and more unflappable the harder anyone tries to get a rise out of him.
AND imo, this is the key to my favorite interpretation of him as a character
see, when the people around him are being more reasonable/calm, i think mumbo often comes across as anxious and a bit easily overwhelmed. the thing is, his nervous wet cat vibes do not scale. he has one setting. his responses to the last life ‘ah-ha!’ jokes and to hermitcraft 8 starting to crumble to pieces under a falling moon are almost identical.
mumbo jumbo is inexorably and eternally Just Some Guy, but that gets stranger and stranger the weirder his surroundings become. the giggly incredulousness that makes him an easy target for goofy puns looks Very different when it’s also his reaction to the impending end of the world.

I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw or a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently

Mama Tried and Over/Under continue to be two of my favorite downtown Miami hangout spots. The happy hour drinks at Mama Tried are not high-octane, which makes them ideal for a night of hanging out, and I appreciated the starry night ceiling as I was seeing pictures of friends traveling to the path of totality for the eclipse that happened on April 8th.
This was the first time I really tried any of the house cocktails at Over/Under because when I’m usually here, I go for the two-for-one frozen Palomas during happy hour. This time, I loved the Flower Power cocktail with hibiscus-infused gin, Aperol, and a blueberry shrub that I need to make for myself so I can have this drink whenever I want.
The smoked fish dip here is one of the best I’ve had in Southern Florida, and I’ve tried a few (and to be honest, they’re all really tasty--this particular combination works the best). The Caesar salad was a solid choice as well--definitely another nice light choice--and while I was feeling a bit out of it after a long day of travel, this is what I wanted and I will always hype these places.
