I keep seeing people respond to the Microsoft Recall bullshit with there's an ability to disable it and that misses the point. Several points in fact.

It's only a matter of time until an update bugs/"bugs" it and re-enables it without warning so people who had previously disabled it think they're in the clear until their info is leaked or they get a warning they're low on storage space.

If people don't have admin rights, they may not be able to disable it. Laptops given by work or school lock down what people can do with them, some going as far as dictating which browser one has to use on them. Even if you don't need admin rights to disable Recall, you may not have the ability to do so without losing the laptop and/or job and/or education.

I'm unsure of how it would handle multiple accounts but if it can be locked by someone else to always be enabled, children and people in abusive situations would also be unable to disable it. Even if it can't be locked, disabling it could result in punishment from a parent or the abuser.

Is it really disabled or is it "disabled" in that what the user sees is it being disabled while it's still collecting information and/or sending information to Microsoft in the background?

Such a feature should never have been automatically enabled in the first place. It's bad, predatory design to have such a feature enabled from the start and to expect users AKA customers to go out of their way to look up and then opt-out of something.

If disabling it really disables it, it can still result in stress and concern that it's not. The vast majority of people do not have the skills or knowledge to look into the OS guts to give themselves peace of mind that it really truly is disabled.

I'm sure I'm missing some, too.

TLDR is disabling is a bandaid someone else may rip off for you, someone may hurt you if you use, it may not work at all except as a placebo, and should have never been needed in the first place.

things I'm winning little awards for so far today: - hit snooze on my alarm but got up anyway - had breakfast + took my meds - washed one of the porch railings - downsized the bird seed bin - brought all of mom's clothes out of her room so she can go through them and get rid of some/put away the winter clothes - rearranged the fridge so I can fit some soda in there and stop drinking room temperature soda through this heatwave - drinking something other than soda (juice & water)

just out of curiosity, who do you think will win the title next year

uh. well you'd have to make marc the strong favourite, assuming he remains physically fit, and there's a decent chance it's not particularly competitive. has kinda answered any remaining questions you might have had of him after the summer break (except for the qualifying thing, but tbh at this point my stance is he'll never be the qualifier he was in his prime but it'll still be good enough). can still dominate on his day, still has the mixed conditions magic dust, can perform reliably well whatever the circumstances. this latest win was less 'important' than aragon since he just needed to get across the line once before the season ended to rebuild his confidence, but it was his most impressive. prime marc's MO was just sort of consistency-ing his way to the title while losing a few dramatic duels to his title rivals at his weaker tracks, which feels a reasonable-ish expectation for next year. ... actually, yeah, I did answer a similar-ish question back in june:

I mean obviously you wouldn't expect it to happen again at aragon, but y'know. the point stands. basically if pecco is in a last lap duel with marc at mugello or assen or something, he's probably in serious trouble even if he wins

on pecco's side, I've been consistent in rating him highly as a rider, but like. obviously he's got to have a cleaner season next year than this current one, which I still think he's capable of but u kinda have to see him do it. do also still think there is something to the idea that it's just easier to make mistakes for all riders in the current version of the sport, which is something marc himself has spoken about and we might continue to see from him even on better machinery. plus, there are quite literally fifty million races now so we still need to see how tidy a title campaign it's even possible to put together under those circumstances. but also, y'know, marc's one of the best to ever do it - so pecco might have a great season and get beaten anyway. obviously I hope it'll be competitive! we just don't know yet how both riders - especially pecco - adapt to the gp25, though ofc it's not great news for pecco (and indeed for the viewers) that this michelin front tyre saga is dragging on. we'll see

and, yeah. obviously I would love for ktm and aprilia to suddenly make a step out of nowhere to get some more riders into the title battle, but if we're being honest I don't think anyone really expects them to be at that level yet in 2025. you have to hope they're a little bit better at least, but you have to hope that every year. not even gonna dignify the other two manufacturers by mentioning them by name in this post. maybe in 2026

Like, svsss is already a romcom of a guy shunted into a fantasy world with meta knowledge and immense power for no reason apart from 'make a happy ending' as a fairly thick veneer over an absolute hot mess of a tragedy with a happy ending, red flags galore, complete with a protagonist completely removed from the concept of romance and resigned to his fate of being abandoned by the people around him because of the circumstances he was 'born' into, but he's funny about it.

The disastrous life of saiki k is a fast paced crack comedy about a guy granted immense power for no reason with meta knowledge of the world as a thick veneer over something a little darker and traumatic with a happy ending, complete with a protagonist completely removed from the concept of romance and resigned to being ignored by the people around him because of the circumstances he was born into, but he's hilarious about it.

Now I don't think it should be a 1-1 transplant of saiki to the svsss world, but to imagine an sy with those powers who didn't manage to find loyal friends, who moved out to live alone as soon as possible to avoid issues with his powers, who gravitated to web novels because of their regular updates as opposed to being constantly spoiled for books with finished endings. An sy who despite his ridiculous levels of power died alone in a stupid way and woke up in a world filled with people who also had immense and varied powers, dealing with the prospect of immortality when his own powers are still constantly growing and interfering with his life, but be silly about it.

I want to see a sy with telepathy still failing to understand what lbhs deal is because of his own denial, a sy with the power to crush mountains with a finger trying not to blow down walls with a sneeze because someone put him on a mountain FILLED with plants in SPRING, an sy who deleted an entire country from the planet aged four trying to dodge overly enthusiastic maidens he keeps saving because he doesn't want to steal from the protagonist and also no, lady, please. Shen yuan sitting in the water prison absolutely deadpan as people try and scare him with 10 iq stories about the acid waterfalls. An sy who hares around the peak trying to avoid being spotted on valentines day as he redirects unwanted admirers and improves his disciples dates just so they can all have a good day.

An sqh who really, honestly truly doesn't know how pidw was made real, honest!! All he could do was see ghosts! It's not his fault the story he wrote to make rent turned into all of this!!
