Bluesky and enshittification

NEXT WEEKEND (November 8-10), I'll be in TUCSON, AZ: I'm the GUEST OF HONOR at the TUSCON SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION.
I would like to use Bluesky. They've done a bunch of seriously interesting technical work on moderation and ranking that I truly admire, and I've got lots of friends there who really enjoy it.
But I'm not on Bluesky and I don't have any plans to join it anytime soon. I wrote about this in 2023: I will never again devote my energies to building up an audience on a platform whose management can sever my relationship to that audience at will:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/06/fool-me-twice-we-dont-get-fooled-again/
When a platform can hold the people you care about or rely upon hostage – when it can credibly threaten you with disconnection and exile – that platform can abuse you in lots of ways without losing your business. In other words, they can enshittify their service:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/08/17/hack-the-planet/#how-about-a-nice-game-of-chess
I appreciate that the CEO of Bluesky, Jay Graber, has evinced her sincere intention never to enshittify Bluesky and I believe she is totally sincere:
https://www.wired.com/story/bluesky-ceo-jay-graber-wont-enshittify-ads/
But here's the thing: all those other platforms, the ones where I unwisely allowed myself to get locked in, where today I find myself trapped by the professional, personal and political costs of leaving them, they were all started by people who swore they'd never sell out. I know those people, the old blogger mafia who started the CMSes, social media services, and publishing platforms where I find myself trapped. I considered they friends (I still consider most of them friends), and I knew them well enough to believe that they really cared about their users.
They did care about their users. They just cared about other stuff, too, and, when push came to shove, they chose the worsening of their services as the lesser of two evils.
Like: when your service is on the brink of being shut down by its investors, who demand that you compromise on privacy, or integrity, or quality, in some relatively small way, are you really going to stand on principle? What about all the users who won't be harmed by the compromise, but will have their communities and online lives shattered if you shut down the company? What about all the workers who trusted you, whose family finances will be critically imperilled if you don't compromise, just a little. What about the "ecosystem" partners who've bet on your service, building plug-ins, add-ons and services that make your product better? What about their employees and their employees' families?
Maybe you tell yourself, "If I do this, I'll live to fight another day. I can only make the service better for its users if the service still exists." Of course you tell yourself that.
I have watched virtually every service I relied on, gave my time and attention to, and trusted, go through this process. It happened with services run by people I knew well and thought highly of.
Enshittification can be thought of as the result of a lack of consequences. Whether you are tempted by greed or pressured by people who have lower ethics than you, the more it costs to compromise, the fewer compromises you'll make.
In other words, to resist enshittification, you have to impose switching costs on yourself.
That's where federation comes in. On Mastodon (and other services based on Activitypub), you can easily leave one server and go to another, and everyone you follow and everyone who follows you will move over to the new server. If the person who runs your server turns out to be imperfect in a way that you can't endure, you can find another server, spend five minutes moving your account over, and you're back up and running on the new server:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/03/04/pick-all-three/#agonism
Any system where users can leave without pain is a system whose owners have high switching costs and whose users have none. An owner who makes a bad call – like removing the block function say, or opting every user into AI training – will lose a lot of users. Not just those users who price these downgrades highly enough that they outweigh the costs of leaving the service. If leaving the service is free, then tormenting your users in this way will visit in swift and devastating pain upon you.
That not only helps you steer clear of rationalizing your way into a bad compromise: it also stops your investors and other people with leverage over you from pressuring you into taking actions that harm your users. These devils only sit on your shoulder, whispering temptations and threats, because they think that you can make things worse without spoiling their investment. They're not cruel, they're greedy. They will only insist on enshittification that they believe they can profit from. If they understand that forcing you to enshittify the service will send all your users packing and leave them with nothing, they will very likely not force you to wreck your service.
And of course, if they are so greedy that they force your hand anyway, then your users will be able to escape. Your service will be wrecked and you'll be broke, which sucks for you, but you're just one person and your pain is vastly outweighed by the relief for the millions of people who escape your service when it goes sour.
There's a name for this dynamic, from the world of behavioral economics. It's called a "Ulysses Pact." It's named for the ancient hacker Ulysses, who ignored the normal protocol for sailing through the sirens' sea. While normie sailors resisted the sirens' song by filling their ears with wax, Ulysses instead had himself lashed to the mast, so that he could hear the sirens' song, but could not be tempted into leaping into the sea, to be drowned by the sirens.
Whenever you take a measure during a moment of strength that guards against your own future self's weakness, you enter into a Ulysses Pact – think throwing away the Oreos when you start your diet.
There is no such thing as a person who is immune to rationalization or pressure. I'm certainly not. Anyone who believes that they will never be tempted is a danger to themselves and the people who rely on them. A belief you can never be tempted or coerced is like a belief that you can never be conned – it makes you more of a mark, not less.
Bluesky has many federated features that I find technically admirable. I only know the CEO there slightly, but I have nothing but good opinions of her. At least one of the board members there, Mike Masnick, is one of my oldest friends and comrades in the fights for user rights. We don't agree on everything, but I trust him implicitly and would happily give him the keys to my house if he needed a place to stay or even the password for my computer before I had major surgery.
But even the best boards can make bad calls. It was just a couple years ago that we had to picket to stop the board of ISOC – where I had several dear old friends and comrades – from selling control of every .ORG domain to a shadowy hedge-fund run by mustache-twirling evil billionaires:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/12/how-we-saved-org-2020-review
Bluesky lacks the one federated feature that is absolutely necessary for me to trust it: the ability to leave Bluesky and go to another host and continue to talk to the people I've entered into community with there. While there are many independently maintained servers that provide services to Bluesky and its users, there is only one Bluesky server. A federation of multiple servers, each a peer to the other, has been on Bluesky's roadmap for as long as I've been following it, but they haven't (yet) delivered it.
That was worrying when Bluesky was a scrappy, bootstrapped startup with a few million users. Now it has grown to over 13 million users, and it has taken on a large tranche of outside capital:
https://fediversereport.com/on-bluesky-and-enshittification/
Plenty of people have commented that now that a VC is holding Bluesky's purse-strings, enshittification will surely follow (doubly so because the VC is called "Blockchain Capital," which, at this point, might as well be "Grifty Scam Caveat Emptor Capital"). But I don't agree with this at all. It's not outside capital that leads to enshittification, it's leverage that enshittifies a service.
A VC that understands that they can force you to wreck your users' lives is always in danger of doing so. A VC who understands that doing this will make your service into an empty – and thus worthless – server is far less likely to do so (and if they do, at least your users can escape).
My publishing process is a lot of work and adding another service to it represents a huge amount of future labor:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/01/13/two-decades/#hfbd
But I would leap into Bluesky and gladly taken on all that extra work, every day – if I knew that I couldn't get trapped there.
I don't know why Bluesky hasn't added the federation systems that would enable freedom of exit to its service. Perhaps there are excellent technical reasons to prioritize rolling out the other systems they've created so far. Frankly, it doesn't matter. So long as Bluesky can be a trap, I won't let myself be tempted. My rule – I don't join a service that I can't leave without switching costs – is my Ulysses Pact, and it's keeping me safe from danger I've sailed into too many times before.

The Purest Things: If I Could Be Where You Are
Aaron Hotchner x Fem! Reader Word Count: 2.6k Warnings: Murder. Blood. Death. Weapons. Canon typical violence. Everything that makes Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds. The Purest Things Masterlist

au! april 2009
Bookend: "Healing yourself is connected with healing others." -Yoko Ono
It’s been a month since The Reaper attacked you, a month since his escape, and a month since you were forced on leave, unable to help your team in person. The days drag on, each one slower than the last. You’ve resorted to reorganizing every drawer in your house, making every recipe in the book, and even trying to learn how to knit, but nothing seems to quiet the restlessness gnawing at you.
One thing, however, has kept you grounded—the small, thoughtful gifts left on your doorstep by a mysterious someone. Whether it’s a meal from your favorite restaurant or a candle with the comforting scent of teakwood, they appear like clockwork, each more perfect than the last. You know it’s Rossi. He has a habit of quietly looking out for people like he once did for a family whose case stayed with him for years.
You glance at the clock: 6 p.m. He’ll be here any moment. Another constant keeping you sane has been Aaron. Every evening, he arrives with the latest case files, ensuring you still feel connected to the team—even if they have no idea you’re working behind the scenes.
Knock, knock, knock…pause, knock, knock.
The secret code brings a grin to your face as you move to unlock the door. You and Hotch came up with it weeks ago—your foolproof way of ensuring it wasn’t George Foyet or anyone else unwelcome standing on the other side. He even insisted on always using the back door, just to be extra cautious.
When you swing it open, Hotch is standing there with a small, knowing smile, but tonight he isn’t alone.
“I brought reinforcements,” he announces, stepping aside to reveal Penelope and Spencer.
Your jaw drops, and you can’t stop the tears that instantly spring to your eyes. “Oh my god,” you whisper, overwhelmed.
Penelope wraps you in a tight, crushing hug while Spencer hovers behind, clearly eager but more cautious. The sharp pang of pain radiates from your still-healing injuries, but you don’t care.
“Oh my god,” you manage, your voice thick with emotion. “I missed you guys so much.”
Penelope pulls back to kiss your cheek, her bright smile fading as she studies you. “We’ve missed you more, babycakes. Look at you—so gorgeous even in recovery. What is your secret?”
“Endless hours of absolutely nothing,” you quip, turning to Spencer. “Finally, no more online chess games. We can actually play in person again.”
Spencer lights up. “You’ve gotten better,” he says, his tone as matter-of-fact as always. “It was starting to feel like you were anticipating my moves. I have a theory that—”
“Okay, Einstein, let her breathe,” Penelope interrupts, shooting him a mock glare. “Besides, she’s mine tonight.”
You glance toward Hotch, standing quietly at the kitchen counter like he belongs there, his arms crossed and his expression softer than usual.
“I have to ask,” Penelope says, turning her attention to him. “Why weren’t we allowed to see her until now? You said something about security, but really?”
Hotch’s face remains composed. “We needed to ensure there were no patterns Foyet could track. Foot traffic had to be limited to supervisors and law enforcement.”
Penelope narrows her eyes at him, a sly smile creeping onto her face. “And let me guess—‘supervisor’ mostly meant you?”
Hotch doesn’t dignify her with a response, but the corner of his mouth twitches, and instead, he turns back to the kitchen counter to busy himself. His easy familiarity with your home is not lost on Spencer and Penelope, and you catch the shared glance they exchange.
"Alright,” you announce, waving your hands dramatically. “Since I have all of you here, let’s make it a real party. Hotch, you’re in charge of drinks. Garcia, you’re my sous chef. Reid—don’t argue—you’re in charge of setting the table.”
“Wait, wait, wait,” Penelope says, throwing her arm around your shoulders gently. “Do you even have party supplies? What’s in your fridge?”
“Nothing worth celebrating,” you admit with a grin. “But we can improvise.”
“Oh, I am SO good at improvising a party,” Penelope declares, already dragging Spencer toward the refrigerator. “Reid, we are going to make magic happen in this fridge of doom.”
You chuckle, watching them bicker over ingredients before heading to Hotch. He’s at the counter, organizing the files he’d brought with him, the faintest hint of a smile lingering on his face.
“You’ve been found out,” you tease quietly, leaning against the counter beside him.
He glances at you, one eyebrow raising a silent question, “I don't know what you could mean."
“She’s not wrong, though,” you say softly. “You’ve been here more than anyone.”
His movements pause momentarily, his hand resting on one of the files. “You needed someone to keep you in the loop,” he says, his voice even. “I didn’t want you to feel alone in this.”
You tilt your head, studying him. “Well, you’ve done more than that.”
He finally looks at you, his expression unreadable but his eyes soft. “It’s part of my job.”
You shake your head slightly. “Not like this, it isn’t.”
You let the silence overtake the moment until Penelope’s voice breaks it. “Oh my gosh, there is nothing but condiments in here! Reid, we’re ordering pizza.”
Hotch’s lips twitch, and you smile, stepping back toward the chaos in the kitchen. “Come on, Agent Hotchner,” you call over your shoulder. “Even you can’t say no to pizza.”
The evening unfolds in an almost normal way, as if you’ve stepped out of the chaos for a little while. Penelope takes over your small kitchen like it’s a gourmet setup, insisting you sit while she and Hotch bicker over the proper way to open a bottle of wine. Spencer sets the table with mismatched plates, lecturing you on the psychological benefits of symmetry, and you can’t stop laughing.
Hotch eventually joins you in the living room, handing you a glass of wine. He doesn’t say much, but the way his hand stays on yours for a second too long says everything. By the time the night winds down, the laughter has eased the weight you’ve been carrying for weeks, and for a few precious hours, you almost forget about the scar carved into your skin and the monster who put it there.
When Penelope hugs you goodbye, she whispers in your ear, “He’s been your rock, hasn’t he?”
You glance toward Hotch, Spencer already outside. “Yeah,” you say softly. “He has.”
By the time they leave, it’s late, and the house feels quiet again. You’re clearing the empty mugs from the coffee table when Hotch stops you, taking them from your hands.
“I’ll get these,” he says softly.
You hesitate, watching him move toward the kitchen with the easy familiarity of someone who belongs here. It’s comforting in a way you can’t quite put into words.
“Thank you,” you say, and it feels like you mean it for more than just the dishes.
He glances back at you, his expression unreadable but warm. “Always.”
•:•.•:•.•:•:•:•:•:•:•:••:•.•:•.•:•:•:•:•:•:•:••:•.•:•.
It’s your first day back to work, and you stand in front of your mirror, straightening your jacket with a steady hand. The weight of your badge in your pocket feels reassuring now, grounding you in the moment. You take a deep breath, looking at your watch, knowing Aaron will be here any minute to pick you up.
The sound of a car pulling into your driveway makes your heart skip a beat. You head out the door, and as you reach the car, you see Aaron sitting behind the wheel, a warm smile spreading across his face. “I got you a Diet Coke,” he says, handing you a can. “I know coffee isn’t your favorite.”
You laugh, taking the can from him. “This day is already off to a great start,” you say, grateful for the small gesture, the simple comfort of his presence.
The drive to the office is quiet but comforting. The familiar roads, the faint whirr of the car, and the knowledge that you’re heading back to your team—it all feels right. As you arrive at the BAU, you and Hotch ride the elevator up in silence, but you notice something. His usual composed demeanor is slightly off. His fingers are rubbing together in that subtle way you’ve come to recognize. It’s a tell—one of the small things you’ve picked up over the past month of recovery.
“You okay, Hotch?” you ask, tilting your head slightly, concerned.
He meets your gaze momentarily, offering a small, reassuring smile. “Just a little anxious,” he admits, his voice almost softer than usual. “It’s been a while.”
The elevator dings as it reaches the BAU floor. You step out, expecting the usual buzz of activity, but what you get instead takes you completely by surprise.
“Welcome back!” A chorus of voices rings out, and you spin around, eyes wide with shock. There, in the middle of the floor, is the entire team—JJ, Reid, Penelope, Morgan, and even Rossi—all standing together with flowers, balloons, and the biggest smiles on their faces.
Your heart swells, and your breath catches in your throat as you glance back at Hotch. He’s standing there, a playful glint in his eyes, looking pleased with himself. “You knew?” you ask, half-amused, half-incredulous.
He simply shrugs, giving you a little smirk. “I plead the fifth,” he says, his voice full of warmth.
You don’t waste another second. You rush over to your team, greeting each with a hug, a laugh, and a few tears. The joy of seeing them, of being back where you belong, makes everything feel right again.
Penelope pulls you into an exaggerated hug, “We missed you so much, baby!” she says, her voice thick with affection.
Reid offers a shy smile as he hands you a carefully wrapped book. “I figured you’d need something to keep you busy since you’re back in action now,” he says, his voice a little more tentative than usual.
"Thank you! I read all of my personal library twice in the past month," you giggle.
Morgan gives you a one-armed hug, ruffling your hair. “Good to have you back,” he says with his usual easy grin.
As you pull back from them, your gaze drifts to Aaron, standing a little to the side, watching you with a look of quiet pride.
You finally turn to him, offering a soft smile. “I guess you weren’t the only one keeping secrets,” you tease, and he chuckles, looking a little embarrassed.
“This is nothing,” Hotch says, a slight twinkle in his eyes. “You should see the surprise party they’ve got planned for you at lunch.”
You can’t help but laugh, feeling lighter than you have in weeks. This is precisely where you need to be. With them. With him.
•:•.•:•.•:•:•:•:•:•:•:••:•.•:•.•:•:•:•:•:•:•:••:•.•:•.
Rossi knocks on Aaron’s door deliberately but gently. The sound breaks the stillness of the office, and Aaron looks up from his paperwork, nodding for him to come in. Rossi steps inside, settling into the chair across from him. His eyes drift toward the bullpen, where you’re working.
Aaron follows his gaze and immediately understands what this is about. It doesn’t take a profiler to know what’s coming next.
“I’m glad she’s back,” Dave says quietly, sincerity laced in his voice.
“Me too,” Aaron responds briskly, trying to deflect. “So, that report from last week’s case—”
“Does Haley… uh… have you told her about your visits to Y/N’s?” Rossi cuts in, getting straight to the point.
Aaron’s mouth opens, but no words come out. His eyes flicker to Rossi, a tightness settling in his chest.
“Ah,” Rossi murmurs, leaning back in his chair, a knowing glint in his eye. “I assume that’s because of the safety protocols after she was attacked?”
Aaron sinks into his seat, fingers absently tapping against the desk. The guilt is heavy, pressing down on him. “No,” he admits quietly. “I just haven’t brought it up to her.”
Rossi sighs, his gaze softening. “Aaron, you’re not fooling anyone. Especially not me.” He pauses, letting the silence stretch just long enough to let his words settle. “You can’t keep this under wraps forever. You know that, right?”
Aaron meets his gaze, the weight of his words hitting harder than he expected. “I know,” he mutters. “It’s just… complicated.”
Rossi studies him, then nods. “I get it. But you’re walking a tightrope here. You need to figure out where you stand—before someone else does it for you.”
“Dave, there’s no tightrope,” Aaron says, his voice firm, though there’s a trace of frustration underneath. “There’s nothing to keep under wraps. I’m her supervisor. I went over to her house to gain her perspective on the case. That’s all.”
He leans back, crossing his arms, trying to convince himself as much as Rossi.
Rossi raises an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “Right,” he says slowly, his tone teasing. “And you’ve never felt any… personal connection to her? After all the time you two have spent together?”
Aaron’s jaw tightens. “I’m not blind, Dave,” he snaps, but his gaze drops to the desk, avoiding the question. “But I’m also not foolish enough to cross that line.”
Rossi watches him for a beat, then smirks. “Just remember the fraternization rules, Aaron. I think I’m the reason they exist in the first place.”
Aaron exhales, rubbing his temples. “I’m aware of the rules,” he mutters. “I’m just trying to figure out what to do about… everything.”
Rossi hesitates before speaking again, choosing his words carefully. “There’s a reason Foyet targeted her, Aaron, whether or not you want to believe it.” His tone is measured, but the implication lands like a gut punch. Aaron’s posture stiffens.
“Dave,” he warns, his voice low, edged with tension, daring him to continue.
“She’s scarred, Aaron. Forever. And it’s your initials she carries for a reason. He branded her with your name because he saw it—the connection between you two. He didn’t target one of us; he went after her because something about her led him straight to you.”
Aaron’s pulse quickens, his jaw tight. “What exactly are you implying, Dave?” His voice is steady, but his guarded expression gives him away.
“If Foyet could see your attachment to her, I can, too. And I’d wager she’s noticed it as well,” Rossi says, leaning forward slightly. “Maybe it’s time you stop running from it and admit it to yourself before she gets hurt again.”
Rossi pushes himself up from the chair, gives Aaron one last knowing look, and then leaves the office, leaving Aaron alone with his thoughts.
Aaron exhales slowly, the weight of their conversation pressing heavily against his ribs. He stands, moving to the window, his eyes finding you in the bullpen. You’re fully immersed in the files in front of you, strong and resilient, throwing yourself back into the work as if nothing ever happened.
But something did happen.
Dave’s words echo in his mind as he watches you. You’re scarred—forever marked by his initials, a cruel reminder of the consequences of his choices. Of chasing a ghost and letting it get too close to the people he cares about.
Aaron’s chest tightens, guilt coiling around his thoughts. He silently vows that nothing else will ever happen to you. Not to you. Not to anyone else he loves. Loves.
The realization lands like a blow, and he presses a hand against the window frame for support.
His gaze lingers, the truth hitting him harder than he’s willing to admit, even to himself.
“If only I could be where you are,” he murmurs under his breath.
But in another lifetime, maybe. One where he isn’t an older man, divorced, a father weighed down by years of mistakes and ghosts. One where the miles between the lives you’ve lived and the lives he’s endured didn’t feel so insurmountable.

I personally think Dr Ratio's first appearance in the space station quest was the funniest thing ever and made me love him intensely. Something about a beautiful mysterious man with a plaster head that has a pattern where he will 1. Show up out of nowhere (secretly) 2. Look pretty 3. Help out the situation/observe it nearby ready to help 4. get things done 5. leave. is just incredibly hilarious to me. + the online chat + Ruan Mei and Herta going "who?" when you mention him. I love him lots
I love love love love this quest and I wish we can play it again and again. I do really love that it sorta seems like he just went in and showed himself around, was really NOSY (I keep telling people Ratio is MR NOSY PRINCESS he has got to be up in all the business but from the shadows~)
I really love how he was introduced playing chess with himself while wearing his plaster head and sort of condescendingly tells TB to get on with whatever it is TB went down there to do! I was like, aren't you going to help!??!? and he didn't because he just wanted to see how hard TB can bat, he was ready to help when things got dicey for sure.
I sorta feel like he's just that guy who wants to see everything in order but doesn't really want the fanfare or the credit or anything. He's so opposed to being in any spotlight of any sorts but like, he's also confident when all eyes are on him (last character story) enough that he can make REALLY DISPARAGING COMMENTS like that takes BALLS (or I guess people say it's part of his neurodivergence? I am leaning more towards typical so I don't want to wave that kind of read around) but yeah it's really funny, he's really funny and I love him a lot.
Not to mention I really love how he sort of babysits the TB to get info like this is how you research, how you investigate stuff TB do well now okay you are capable you can do it🤣
oh he's so... I love him so much I can pinch his cheeks PRINCESS

The Way There (part 1)
(Between the first and second doors, on level 1)
*Things are unusually busy today at the front entrance of Outpost 3. There is a large, heavy drone-sized bus in the middle of the room, where the soldiers of the WDF would usually be playing cards diligently protecting the outpost. Instead, they were helping the students of Class H1A make a final rundown of the laundry list of activities they’d be bringing.*
Tug of war rope?
Check.
Hockey equipment?
Check.
Cube of energon for playing cube?
Check.
Soccer ball?
Check.
Trouble?
Check.
Twister?
Check.
Chess set, MD size?
Check.
Chess set, WD size?
Check.
First aid kit, in case something went horribly, horribly wrong?
Chase: “Check.”
Boulder: “Bobsled?”
*The Elite Guardsman in training glanced at the red and yellow bobsled Bumblebee and Huffer were hooking up to the back of the bus.*
Chase: “Check.”
Sideswipe: *from offscreen* “PLEASE DON’T SCRATCH IT!!!”
Boulder: “I think that’s everything.”
*With that, they begin shutting the doors to the luggage compartments. As they do, the rest of their class assembles nearby.*
Trailbreaker: “Remember kids, keep your heads, hands, and legs in the vehicle at all times. And no killing. I’m looking at you, V.”
*Door #2 opens, with Mr. Vernon and his class entering the room…
*Well, part of his class.*
Trailbreaker: “Ey, Treavor! I can see… I thought your class was bigger.”
Treavor: “Some dead, Lizzy’s serving time in the brig.”
Braidon: “Uh, teacher, what’s even the purpose of this field trip?”
Treavor: “Yeah, Bumblebee and Uzi’s idea. Ask them.”
Braidon: *scoffs* “The dwarf of a heavy drone? And who’s the other guy? Never heard of ‘em.”
Uzi: *peeved* “I’ve sat next to you nitwits for years!”
*The rest of her class, sans Thad, ignores her.*
Bee: “Well, arguably you guys would’ve won your online popularity contest—”
Rebecca: “We did.”
Bee: “—so we thought it’d be fair if we brought your class with us! … But, uh, where are the rest of you? I swore there were more of you guys even after… you know…”
Braidon: “Teach is mad at their test scores.”
Treavor: *apathetic as ever* “No monthly paycheck, no learning.”
Riley: “So we’re supposed to go… wherever, unsupervised!?”
*At that moment, Door #2 opens again, this time revealing Orion Pax with Jazz, the former carrying a black briefcase.*
Jazz: “I’m tellin’ ya, Orion, I don’t have time to babysit a bunch of kids right now!”
Orion: “Teenagers, Jazz. I’m sure they mostly know how to behave themselves.” *notices everyone’s already there.* “Besides, you’re one of only two people here who knows how to troubleshoot a bus’ autopilot.”
Damien: “The Archivist and the DJ? Ok, I can already tell this is gonna suck balls.”
Whirl: “Oh it’ll be worth it, trust us.”
Jazz: *notices the disassembly trio, specifically V* “Weren’t ya shot up with incendiary rounds?”
V: *picking between her teeth with her blade hands, speaking dismissively* “Yeah, and I lived, bitch.”
Orion: “Ahem.” *gets the students’ attention* “I’m certain your teachers have already outlined our expectations for you kids, but I cannot emphasize this enough: stay close to an adult. We’re going into… well not exactly uncharted territory, but territory that’s not traversed very often. And that means potential dangers that the survey corps may not have found when they came by 25 years ago. So while the goal is to have fun at the resort, be a little weary in case something unexpected happens, and remain close to me, Trailbreaker, Mr. Vernon, or Jazz at all times.”
Rebecca: *sarcastically, rolls eyelights* “Sure thing, dad.”
*The red and blue Heavy Drone ignores the cheerleader’s comment as he re-opens one of the bus’ luggage hatches, puts in the briefcase, and closes it again as Trailbreaker does roll call.
*Within minutes, everyone was aboard the yellow bus. Due to their size, the Heavy Drones sit on the side of the seats closer to the windows, and help the Worker Drones up beside them. The disassembly trio get a seat to themselves in the very back.*
Uzi: “Wait, who’s driving…?”
Trailbreaker: “Nobody! This bus is guided by local maps, whatever’s left of the GPS system, and what little good code was in Tesla’s self-driving experiments! Now let me enter our destination.” *gets up and leans over a console in the middle of the dashboard, and begins typing* “Cabin… fever… resort…”
Emily: “Uh, do you know how to drive in case something… happens to the autopilot?”
Treavor: “As far as I’m aware, that’s why Jazz is here. Tried talking Soundwave into this job, but apparently he’s busy with something else.”
Thad: “Aw, that would’ve been so rad.”
Jazz: “An’ that’s why I can’t release my next ED for another week…” *to Treavor, Orion* “I really hope this is worth it, otherwise I’m filing a complaint to the Council for— SWEET MOZART!!!”
*As he says this, Trailbreaker finishes entering the destination into the console, hitting the enter button. Almost immediately, everyone inside can hear the engine start…
*…And immediately the bus accelerates, prompting Jazz’s outburst, panicking the students, and nearly throwing the black Heavy Drone teacher to the floor due to inertia. Fortunately, everyone else was already seated as the bus (and the bobsled behind it) went pedal to the metal on the icy landscape.”
Most of the students: “AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”
Sam: *high on magnets, at the same time* “Wheeeeeeeeee!”
Chase: *also at the same time, to his classmates in a monotone voice* “Remain calm. Remain calm. Remain calm.”
Treavor: *still as apathetic as ever* “Jazz, could you please refrain from recklessly driving?”
Jazz: “I ain’t doing this! My hands are here–” *puts his hands in the air so Mr. Vernon can see them* “–and my feet ain’t touching the pedals! This thing’s drivin’ on its own!”
Orion: *leaning over the divider behind Jazz* “Can’t you adjust the settings!?”
Jazz: “Not while we’re moving! I need to keep my eyes on the road in case there’s any obstacles to avoid!”
Treavor: “Then make sure we don’t crash. … and isn’t the resort to the east?”
“You are on the fastest available route to: Cabin Fever Resort Park. Estimated travel time: 2 hours, 38 minutes.”
Trailbreaker: “Kids, buckle your seatbelts! It appears we’re gonna have a real bumpy ride…”

DRONES, DRONES, DRONES!!! WATCH OUT!!!

For over a decade, commercial and hobbyist drones have been buzzing through the skies without incident, yet suddenly people are losing their collective minds over this non-issue as if it's the harbinger of Armageddon. Are you all seriously this gullible? This isn't new technology—hell, we're talking about a military town with Fort Huachuca right there, the same Fort Huachuca that helped pioneer the use of surveillance drones in the first place. This isn’t Skynet coming online; it’s glorified flying cameras that have been around longer than some TikTok influencers have been alive. Meanwhile, a friend of mine has been building custom quadcopters for nearly two decades without a single newsworthy apocalypse resulting from it. But sure, let’s all clutch our pearls over something we’ve lived with peacefully for years, because apparently, critical thinking is optional these days.
The worst part? This drone outrage is nothing but a cheap distraction. While the masses are busy hyperventilating over the "threat" of flying gadgets, actual threats to democracy and justice are barreling forward unchecked. Luigi Mangione’s case—an explosive reflection of systemic neglect and institutional abuse—barely registers on the public radar. And Trump, the felonious rapist insurrectionist, and Elon, the tax-dodging manchild playing geopolitical chess with government subsidies, are tearing apart democratic norms like it’s their God-given right. Yet here we are, hand-wringing over drones, because apparently, a shiny distraction is all it takes to steer the public away from the real threats. Wake up. The manipulation is blatant, and your outrage is being weaponized against you while these bastards continue their games unchecked.

☛ GET INSIDE YOUR CHARACTER'S HEAD! aka The Excessively Detailed Headcanon Meme (MADE BY: @not-just-a-letter )
Not all questions will be the same, because I translated it into my own language and then back into English😭 Enjoy💅
2) Daily routine!
Dark gets up at about 8, goes to the
kitchen to make some tea, takes it back to the room and drinks it. Meanwhile, he spends half an hour playing chess online.
-At 9 o'clock he makes his bed, brushes his teeth, gets dressed and helps with the investigation online/goes to the crime scene.
12:00 p.m. He takes a lunch break at work, and usually makes his own lunch.
-At 1 p.m. Take a short break talking to L
He continues to work on the Kira case from 1
p.m. to 9 p.m
He gets home at 9:00 p.m., changes his clothes and sits down in his room to meditate so as not to be overwhelmed at work.
- He has dinner at 21:30
- From 21:50 to 22:30 he plays chess again.
-He showers until 22:40-23:00
- He sleeps at 23:30
3) Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
Not really, sometimes he does some stretching exercises when his back hurts. However, he especially likes to play tennis.
4 ) What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
He probably wouldn't even dare to approach the kitchen. He would wait quietly in his room for them to go out. If his family members are there, he actually goes in, but he just stands and waits patiently for them to finish their part.
5 ) Cleanliness habits (personal, kitchen was busy? workspace, etc.)
His room is generally fine. He compulsively cleans it because he once read that he will feel more relaxed in a cleaner environment. If there is something he doesn't use (e.q. a glass), he immediately takes it out after him. Wash it after cookina. If he were to vomit, he immediately wipes it away and sprays his room with perfume.
6 ) Eating habits and sample daily menu
Dark often eats rice or fish that are less oily/greasy. He eats less meat as it often makes him sick. He especially likes traditional Japanese food, cinnamon, crackers ,and broccoli. He also likes to eat licorice but he always forgets that it makes him vomit.
7 ) Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
He usually plays chess online, but L also often invites him to play chess online and live, because he knows that he likes it. He also often bakes cookies and listens to music. He enjoys talking with L and his family.
8 ) Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
Various chessboards, empty notebooks, so that most of them have not vet been filled. Too many essential oils, incense, or similar items needed for meditation. He buys so many of these because he is afraid that they will run out suddenly, but in reality there is always just too much.
9 ) Makeup?
Basically, he doesn’t wear makeup.
10 ) Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
Obviously!
11 ) Favorite book genre?
Crime fiction/detective story
13 ) Sexual Orientation?
He’s pansexual!
14 ) Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
Nervous system problem
15) Biggest and smallest short-term goal?
Dark's primary goal is to protect his family and solve criminal cases (mostly the Kira case). I think hs smallest goal is to learn how to cook well even foods that he doesn't eat, only people close to him eat.
16 ) Same question
17 ) Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
Dark usually had it figured out dressing. He dresses averagely, but what cannot be missed is that he wears a necklace and his earphones in evry outfit.
18 ) Favorite drink?
Greentea
19 ) What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
He thinks a little about L, because he likes him a lot. likes to talk to him. Sometimes tomorrow. If you're feeling frustrated he also think about what to bake. it's possible that he's overthinking the same thing over and over and panicking.
20 ) Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
He probably had asthma.
21) Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
Dark will be a little cheerful if someone comforts him a little physically if he is frustrated.
In contrast, it shuts down completely when it is around people.
22 ) Given a blank piece of paper, pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
He would write down an unlearned recipe on it / maybe write down the most important information about the investigation.
23 ) How organized are they? How does this organization/ disorganization manifest in their everyday life?
Dark is a very thorough and organized person. He thinks everything through logically, he doesn't talk unnecessarily. Extremely organized.
24 ) Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
Dark excels in matematics
25 ) How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
Dark does not focus on what will happen in the future. It deals with the present to contribute to the future.
26 ) Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don't work out?
Nothing special, he just want to be calmer. And if they don't allow Him to work for the police anymore, then His emergency plan would be to work as a confectioner.
27 ) What is their biggest regret?
That in the Justice case, when Nico said that Nadim was replaced, Dark claimed that it wasn't true, that Nico was just crazy. When he found out that he had indeed been replaced, he was deeply saddened.
28 ) Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?
Dark doesn't have many friends, but he had a good time with Naomi during American Baby Murder case. Dark has no particular enemies.
29 ) Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
He starts to panic a lot. Shaky, even very dizzy. If the situation is very . he vomits a lot when he is in such a frustrated situation. In this case,he can rough, he cries, but most importantly sometimes dry out.
30 ) Reaction to sudden interpersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)
Same as question 29. In this case, vomiting of blood can be added if, Bc He has vomited a lot and his mucous membrane is damaged, or there is a risk of fainting.
31 ) Most prized possession?
His computer.
32) Thoughts on material possessions on general?
He doesn't mind if someone makes a bigger financial investment in something, just don't overdo it for something that isn't worth it.
33 ) Concept of home and family?
His family is very important to Dark, as he maintains a very good relationship with them. He likes his family members.

Dark usually doesn't talk to anyone outside of his family and L. He does not share confidential information about his own life.
35 ) What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?
Dark likes to try on clothes sometimes.
36 ) What makes them feel guilty?
If he determines something wrong in a crime case (Like Nadim's case, for example)
37 ) Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision making?
Dark usually makes decisions using logic and is less concerned with his feelings even if he knows it will be bad for him.
38 ) What recharges them when they're feeling drained?
He listens to music or simply puts on headphones to drown out the noise. Possibly meditation or any breathing exercise.
39 ) Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority complex? Neither?
He probably has an inferiority complex.
40) How misanthropic are they?
Dark is more afraid of people as they are very loud to him and tire him out a lot.
41) -
42 ) How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?
He graduated from university and has a diploma. He actually likes self-education, I think he was also on a pastry course.

He doesn't want to interfere in religions.
44 ) Superstitions or views on the occult?

Rather with actions, because he usually keeps quiet about his feelings.
46 ) If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal?
Dark likes to be patient with him and wait for him to dare to communicate with them. He likes the other person to be a little attentive, but not overly so. On the outside, He likes it when someone has black eyes because he thinks it's cute.
47) How do they express love?
He does their favors (e.g. cooks Their food, brings them things), sometimes physically touches them if they’re okay with it (gives them hugs, kisses, etc.
48 ) If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?

what would the Ros be like in a modern Au?
also take your precious time, college is certainly not merciful !
Hello,
Thanks for the kind words, college really sucks. 🥲
I still have a bunch of older asks I still need to answer but your ask seems fun and I think I can answer it shortly. So, let's do it!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm in a modern AU I think the world of OMWAT would follow very closely to ours since the world is just sort of a world with altered history and geography.
So with that in mind, Cassandra would still be a daughter of a military man, she would have been raised in a strict household setting but with the caveat that she would have been sent to a private school instead of just having been taught at home by hired instructors. She would have made more friends and have been less lonely as a result. She would still feel the need to carry herself a certain way as to not disgrace her father so she would not be that wild rich kid but the one that got into an ivy league school by her own merit and not just by her daddy's money.
She would be a Political Science major with a minor in business as she has her eyes set on a political career path. She would be super intimidating to talk to because she just has that commanding aura about her and her clothes just scream 'money'. She is more confindate in her own skin as the feeling of being pushed aside because she is a woman is no longer an issue here. She would struggle making real connections with however, due to her mistrust that anybody would want to be around her if they could not gain something from it.
Hobbies would include going shooting/hunting, riding, and playing chess on a professional level.
I think Valeria would still work in a mom and pop sort of family owned bakery with her brothers. She would have finished high school with decent grades and as a popular girl since she is very social and friendly. I don't think she would attend college since her family needs her at the bakery but I think she would of liked to go.
She would work full time at the store and make her own special menus and inventing new treats that unintentionally bring more popularity to her families store. She would definitely still be a church girl and attend with her family to every sunday service.
Would spend her free time volunteering to charity projects or going hiking/nature watching.
Now Tomás would be a bit different, I envision his family as old movie star celebrities that caused a huge scandal recently due to his father's infidelity to his wife.
His dad is soooo canceled all over twitter 😭
He would have paparazzi and other invasive reporters follow him everywhere, constantly harassing him and never giving him any privacy. His siblings and mother have condemned his father publicly online and he is the only one that has been silent on how he feels about it. Which is exactly why he gets hounded the most, a lot of women only have claimed that he is a dog just like his father and that is why he is quiet. He is still super broody and while he was going to college as a Spanish major he took a break after news of the scandal got out.
Spends a lot of time online gaming and drinking.
-
My poor baby Ludovica would have been from a decently well off immigrant family that held on to some less than healthy family traditions. Including viewing their daughter as a bargaining chip as soon as she turned 15. Really grimy people, truly. She still would of been married off to some way older dude for her families benefit but at least this time they would wait until she was 18 to officially do it. She would still be miserable and quiet about it due to how she was raised. This time when her husband died the media and police where all over it and it was broadcasted to an unbelievable scale. Headlines and news broadcasts would paint the picture of the young girl who was probably groomed and turned into a fem-fatale. She would be horrified that the whole world thinks she did it and she would feel even worse that her parents are playing into it, trying to capitalize on the media coverage.
She would still shut herself away and break down as a result of all of this. The police would follow her every move and never really leave her alone after her husband's death was ruled death by mysterious circumstance. She would consider taking her life multiple times and by the advice of her trusted housekeeper she would self check herself in to be institutionalized.
Things that would bring her peace would be reading, painting and gardening is she knew how to take care of plants.
Now unto Aurelio, this man is commonly known online for his wild parties and scandalous flings. But in the business world he is both a wild card and golden goose as he came way out of left field and surprised everyone with how a clean shaven newly graduated business major who grew up poor, took over his father's failing winery business and grew it into the empire it is today. His wine and restaurants are loved by all for their delicious taste, excellent service, high quality and shockingly affordable prices. His dream is still making high end restaurants a place where people of different status can come and enjoy food together.
This man is on TMZ every day of the damn week with the stupid shit he gets recorded doing. Has been offered to appear in a few hollywood productions but he turns them down as he knows it would distract him from his business. Still lives in the middle class neighborhood he came from and all of the residents love him because of just how much he gives back to the community. The area used to be very poor but once he made it big he opened one of his restaurants in the area and economy boomed there. He made an announcement that anyone who needed a job and lived in that area would have one working for him with great pay and benefits. Needless to say he has dedicated workers and staff who will throw hands if you bad mouth him in their presence. They are all very proud of him and defend him no matter what he does, including when he is caught doing stupid shit.
Freetime includes golfing, partying, going to art museums, throwing charity/community events and doing unrecommended activities.
Finally unto my favorite little bastard, Elio. This little shit is a one of those people that gets paid to just go to school indefinitely. He likes learning so it works for him but he contributes absolutely nothing back to society. Lives in a college paid dorm alone and reads in his freetime.
...and yeah that's about it for him, the useless bastard.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
AN: ok so maybe this didn't end up as short as I thought it would be but I already finished it so might as well and post it. lol thank you very much for the fun ask! 💙

cool! I think I've heard of it, but i've never played. i play Minecraft mainly, occasionally roblox. I'm so glad you like the song!! your playlist name is very true. yeah!!! I was super excited when I found out about it. also, writing a script??? that's INSANE/pos my program hasnt done that as far as I'm aware. it gets easier as you go along!! 6 hours is more than we usually do, if that makes it better. typically there is a commander calling cadence, but sometimes it a matter of watching people in formation with you. fair enough!! I just started going this year. I'm hyperverbal (basically I never shut up) so I am also a grandmaster in the sport of yapping. i used to play chess but I got bored of it. a little bit busy!! gotta stay going though. as for the questions i totally didn't forget to answer, I found your account about a month ago I believe, but i don't remember how I found it.
-🦌
it’s pretty similar to dead by daylight! or so i’ve heard. i don’t actually know anything about dead by daylight. also, MINECRAFT!! i used to play a lot, but i can’t do so anymore. i wish i had minecraft on mobile too grgrgrgrrrrr… i tried to keep a lot of pets in my minecraft days. mainly mooshrooms. i love mooshrooms so much. they’re the cutest mobs ever plus they give out mushroom soup which is… pretty insane. they’ve got a whole soup kitchen going on inside them. they’re adorable i want a million mooshrooms. i’ve also tried to keep the ender dragon as a pet, but for some reason if you spawn it in the overworld it always flies to spawn?? like it tries to go to 0,0,0 coordinates. which is fine if you live at 0,0,0, but i didn’t. so unfortunate….. one day i will try again. I WILL GET MY DOMESTICATED ENDERDRAGON, NO ONE CAN STOP ME. what games do you play on Roblox?
it’s at moments like these i realise how spoiled for choice we are with our instructor. she’s the nicest! she lets us write our scripts if we want to, as well as choose what topics we want to act on, and suggest plays we want to do. we did a horror/musical/slice of life production earlier this year. it was pretty cool! i was in the musical bit. i love musicals. sadly my role didn’t do much singing, though.
i would assume so! but it would be hard to get started if you’re completely unused to physical training. i hear 50 jumping jacks in drama for warmups and immediately wish to die. also, what’s cadence? is it, like, the rhythm or whatever of how you march? also, the image in my head that pops up at ‘watching people in formation with you’ makes me giggle, because i can just visualise a bunch of people in formation furtively glancing left and right at each other while marching, so they’re just constantly side-eying the people next to them.
i think with the length of this response it’s safe to say that i, too, like to talk. a lot. i might be hyper verbal too, maybe. i feel like i seem quieter irl, though. it’s just the speed of my thoughts, which is probably why I’m chattier when writing stuff down. i have a love/hate relationship with online chess. i love it when i win, and when i lose i decide that i despise it and always have. but with physical chess i never lose. if someone were a move away from checkmating me I’d simply eat their pieces. CHECKMATE!!!
a month is a pretty long time, damn. i hope i’ve been entertaining! i try to be, eheheheheh. you can never know how many people you have just watching you without interacting. like you, probably. you’re interacting now, though, which is great! i love interaction. i giggle and kick my feet whenever people interact with me. i just love attention in general!
i am just now realising how long this is, HELP. when i am in the mood for yapping i do not shut up ever. I AM SO SORRY.

He's the kind of guy who'd sit down and watch you play an instant for hours • He'd always take you with him at the casino, but he wouldn't make you stay in the middle of the crowd... he'd probably let you watch the cameras and see how people are playing. He'd love to hear your sarcastic comment's about the lack of brain of some people • I feel like the perfect date for you two would be an indoor date or exploring hidden gems where you can be almost alone and admire the landlord • I feel like his laughter goes from extremely high-pitched to silent... you'd probably tell him "Now I can play another instrument" just to see him blush • He'd be ✨️hopeless✨️ in a chess match against you, which would lead to him pouting at you... and obviously it would mean cheer-up soft tickles!! (I feel like he'd prefer a softer touch in this context) • HOWEVER... he'd be a great match against you in card games because he can memorize the cards so he'd have a big advantage to match your superior strategizing abilities! • I'm sure you'd annihilate him at Risiko, and he'd destroy you at Memory hahaha (if I had a game night with you two, I'd have to get ready for a major humiliation /hj) • I can imagine you two having a window on your ceiling to fall asleep while stargazing, although sometimes you'd also go out • I'm positive that Sigma would close the casino for one night just to do stargazing with you from such a high and secluded spot! • I feel like you'd enjoy reading together sometimes, and then you'd comment on the books you read at night... Sigma would LOVE your more formal speech style • Thanks to his amazing memory, Sigma would remember to make sure you follow a diet full of iron and take iron integrators... he'd do his best to take perfect care of you
🔮 Tickle scenario
Note: "мой ангел" means "my angel"
Fyodor Dostoevsky and Nikolai Gogol probably weren't the best guys around... to be honest, they weren't even close to being good, but they actually did the best thing when they introduced you to Sigma.
He was an angel to you, even if he couldn't see it. How he both listened and opened up to you, watched you play instruments as if you were a music deity, how he showed appreciation towards you and the quality time you spent together... you two were a match made in heaven. Different enough to complete each other and similar enough to be compatible.
You were thinking all of this as you watched your little angel asleep on the couch, breathing deeply but without making a sound. He looked like he was having a peaceful dream.
You had asked him if he could listen to a cello piece you were practicing on. It was an extremely relaxing piece, some critics even said it was probably a lullaby written by the composer for his children, but you didn't really think it would work on your boyfriend.
However, you had to interrupt that blissful moment for Sigma's sake. It was almost dinner time and sleeping at that time was surely going to mess up his sleeping schedule. You chuckled, glancing at that sleeping angelic face once more before tracing his back lightly to wake him up softly.
A smile formed on the dual-haired guy's face and it got wider and wider until it turned into a sleepy, groggy giggle. "Good morning, мой ангел~" you smirked while he looked up at you, still giggling as the last traces of sleep left his eyes.
"I wanna sleep... just keep playing your cello..." he tried pointlessly to swat your hands away. "No can do," You sing-songed "It's dinner time, and you need to get up if you want to sleep tonight." Your words made him groan, but he knew you were right.
"Go awayyy" He whined, and then he made the worst mistake. "Did you... just throw a pillow at my face?" You asked, showing playful indignation, and decided to make him regret that choice.
"5... 4... 3..." You started counting, and Sigma knew what was coming. You ignored his pleads and neutralized every attempt he made to get away, "2... 1..."
"Gyahahahahaha Ihihi'm sohohorryehe pleheheahase nohohohot thihihis!!!" He kicked with his legs and punched the couch, as if doing that would give him any relief or protection from the tickling he was receiving on his back, sides, ribs and underarms. "I'm afraid I have to decline your request, dear... you had your chance to listen to me, and now you have to face the punishment for not doing so." You solemnly scolded him. You didn't know why but that kind of tone always flustered him.
"YohOHOu're meHEahAHan..!" He complained while you drew little circles in the hollow of his underarms. "Says the one who threw a pillow at my face..." You quickly retorted, and then you decided to go for the kill without any kind of warning.
"NAHAHAHAHA NOHOHOT THEHE NEHEHEHEHEHEHECK!!! I'M SOHOHOHORRY IHIHI'M SAHAHAHAHARRYEHEHE IHIHI'LL GEHEHET UHUHUHUHUP!!!" He immediately caved in. It was adorable for you how he could've handle even two fingers tracing his neck.
"I didn't even get to use my whole hands there... but I got what I wanted and I'm getting quite hungry, so I'll let you off the hook this time." You decided to be merciful and helped him sit up, giving a couple of minutes to recover.
You noticed how late it was, and noticing that Sigma was fully recovered, you got up and walked towards the door of the living room. "Come on, let's go to din-" You tried to say before getting interrupted by two hands squeezing your sides.
"Hahaha I got you!" Sigma exclaimed proudly, eager to finally get his revenge on you... only to find out, to his dismay, that you weren't even twitching.
"Nice try, мой ангел~"
"H-how can this- No! Nononono wait wait wahAHAHAHAHAIT..!"

5 Reasons Why Learning Chess Online is Perfect for Busy Minds

In today’s fast-paced world, it can be challenging to find time for hobbies or activities that require focus and concentration. Chess, a game that requires strategic thinking and mental agility, is often seen as a pastime for those with plenty of free time. However, with the rise of online chess learning, busy individuals now have the opportunity to sharpen their minds and improve their chess skills without sacrificing their hectic schedules. Whether you’re an experienced player or a beginner, learning chess online offers flexibility, convenience, and a personalized experience that fits into even the busiest of routines. In this blog, we’ll explore the top 5 reasons why learning chess online is perfect for busy minds.
Flexible Chess Learning: Fit Chess into Your Busy Schedule
Why Learn Chess Online: Flexibility is Key
One of the primary benefits of online chess classes is the flexibility they offer. Traditional chess lessons often require students to follow a strict schedule, which can be difficult to maintain if you have a demanding job, family commitments, or other responsibilities. On the other hand, online chess platforms allow you to learn at your own pace, whenever and wherever it suits you.
With online chess for busy people, you have the freedom to choose when to play and study. You can fit in a quick 15-minute lesson during your lunch break, or spend an hour learning new strategies after work. This flexibility allows you to progress in your chess skills without feeling overwhelmed by the demands of a busy life.
Time-Saving Chess Classes
Another advantage of learning chess online is the ability to save time. Time-saving chess classes are designed to be efficient, providing you with concise lessons that maximize learning in minimal time. This way, you don’t have to spend hours commuting to a chess club or classroom – all you need is a device with internet access, and you’re good to go. Whether you’re at home, in a café, or during your commute, online chess lessons can easily fit into your day.
Chess Learning for Busy Minds: Mental Stimulation on Your Terms
Benefits of Online Chess Classes: Engage Your Mind Anytime
Chess learning for busy minds is an ideal way to keep your brain sharp and engaged. Many people struggle to find time for intellectual stimulation outside of their work, and learning chess online provides a way to challenge your mind in a focused and structured manner. The beauty of online chess for busy people is that you can fit it into your schedule without pressure.
Studies show that chess helps improve cognitive abilities such as problem-solving, pattern recognition, and strategic thinking. These skills transfer well to other areas of life, making chess an excellent tool for personal development. By learning chess online, you’re not only improving your game but also exercising your brain and enhancing your mental agility.
Play Chess Online for Beginners: A Perfect Starting Point
If you’re new to chess and have a packed schedule, playing chess online for beginners is an ideal way to get started. Many online chess platforms offer step-by-step tutorials and beginner-friendly lessons, allowing you to gradually build your skills without feeling overwhelmed. You can start with simple puzzles and strategies, then move on to more complex tactics as your understanding of the game deepens. The flexible chess learning process ensures that you can progress at your own pace, no matter how busy your life may be.
Access to the Best Online Chess Programs
Online Chess Coaching Advantages: Learn from the Best
When you choose to learn chess online, you gain access to top-tier chess coaches and resources that might not be available in your local area. Best online chess programs offer coaching from grandmasters, chess masters, and other highly skilled players. This access allows you to learn from the best, no matter where you live.
Moreover, online chess coaching advantages extend beyond just having access to expert teachers. Online programs often include interactive features, such as personalized feedback, video tutorials, and real-time analysis of your games. These resources are designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of chess while accommodating your busy lifestyle.
Why Choose Online Chess: Expert Guidance at Your Fingertips

i know it must be annoying for you to get all of this but it’s so funny to me. as a cis bi woman. to read what other people think about gender? like. you read a tiny little bit of butler and you follow three lesbians online if you don’t have them in person and you learn very fucking quickly that the intersections of sexuality and gender and dissidence from normativity are chess to the tic tac toe of hegemonic binaries. just because you don’t get something doesn’t mean it’s complicated. sometimes it’s your fault lol
exactlyyyyyy thank you & like you just gotta move on & mind your business if you dont understand smth

The Man From Y.I.L.I.N.G.
Chapter 4 - RESEARCH POST
It's like how champagne can only be made in champagne France -- true Moutai Baijiu can only be made by the Kweichow Maotai distillery in Maotai, Guizhou province. It's a state-owned business, and in 1951 Moutai was named an official state liquor and "...became both the drink of choice for greeting foreign dignitaries and the bribe of choice to high officials."
The bottle of baijiu that Nie Mingjue is looking at on the bar was inspired by this bottle sold online by Christies Auction (Shanghai) for 960000CNY (approx. 139,389USD / 114,422GBP) in January 2022. Source: Christies online
3. Xiangqi is historical 'Chinese Chess', believed to have originated in the Song Dynasty. The pieces and rules are different from Western chess, though there are also quite a few overlaps seeing as they're both war strategy games. English-speakers will frequently swap out the names of the pieces for their Western counterparts since they perform similar functions (i.e. to protect the general/king or else have similar legal movement patterns or limitations around the board).
4. Baijiu is typically served in a tulip-shaped glass when entertaining. The shape of the glass allows the aroma of the wine to bloom properly, and holding the glass by the stem prevents the heat of your hand from altering the aroma/flavor while you drink. Jess and I thought this was a nice nod to Nie Mingjue's more aristocratic upbringing - he knows and observes these niceties of highbrow society pretty instinctually even when under stress because he's still the Nie heir/leader at heart.
5. As far as him slamming it back, though - this baijiu is meant to be sipped at slowly while eating, not knocked back like a shot of tequila. It's extremely strong, around 80-120 proof, which is why LXC is watching him pound these shots back like "O.O Oh I might've fucked up somewhere here"
6. For Lan Xichen's move against himself in the xiangqi game where he captures a piece - this is way too much detail for a throwaway line in the middle of a conversation, but I actually researched the movement types for each piece in xiangqi for it. For this move, a red soldier piece has crossed the river in the horizontal middle of the board into the opposing black territory (making it more vulnerable, as it can't retreat back across the 'river', and is now therefore worth 2 points instead of 1). The black cannon can move as far as it wants in a straight line so long as it's unobstructed, so canons are frequently purely offensive pieces used for capturing. In order to capture, a cannon has to be able to jump a piece (the only piece in the game that has to capture by jumping), and so for this move and response, the lone red soldier is hopped by the black cannon, then removed from play for 2 points. Is this actually a good strategy? I dunno!
7. Back to the baijiu and its soy sauce flavor - there are apparently lots of various flavors of baijiu even from this one distillery, ranging from light and floral/fruity all the way to the more savory wines. Apparently the strongest/most fermented really do taste like soy sauce as they're made with a similar fermentation process. (I spent so long reading about baijiu production and personal accounts on blogs from connoiseurs for just a few lines but it's about grounding it in reality!!)
8-10. The first song that plays on the album Lan Xichen puts on is "Hippy Hippy Shake" from the 1964 album 'Zoom' by The Fabulous Echoes, based in Hong Kong. Music like this apparently would've been pretty contraband in Mainland China, the sort of thing people would only listen to either by themselves or amongst trusted friends in their own homes. Lan Xichen is being a little daring by playing it in the hotel like this, but 🤷🏽♀️ the record was already there and it's not like Wen Ruohan doesn't like to flaunt how much he doesn't have to follow the usual social rules 'cause $$$ so I just went with it. The next songs that play each time Nie Mingjue notices the track changing are "To Russia With Love" for the slower ballad, and then when the bouncy percussion comes back in it's "Betcha Gonna Like It".
11. I've only been able to find two mentions of Peony as a luxury brand of record player: one, a personal journal entry from someone who remembers their dad buying one and being very proud to have purchased such a luxury; and two, a blurb of a quote from a book called 'Newborn Socialist Things: Materiality in Maoist China' that reads "…late 1950s with its line of Peony (Mudan) luxury brand radios. In 1959, it began offering a new combination model: The Peony 1201 added a four-speed…" before the preview cuts off. But of course even though I couldn't find loads of information about it it was just too perfect not to include.

Evergreen (Like Mother, Like Son)
Evergreen (like mother, like son) by Arhj12
Inko won't lie. She knows she's been a bit of a wildcard in the past. But she has her wonderful son and she's put her past behind her. So she shoved her vigilante gear and old diaries under a floorboard where nobody would find them. God knows she doesn't want Izuku following in her footsteps.
Aizawa has a headache. That damn vigilante is causing chaos again. The name Helios is infamous in this area and the sarcastic green-clad vigilante is back after disappearing for more than a decade.
Yamada really likes Cafe Evergreen. It's a few blocks from UA and the barista Midoriya is always a hoot! He just wonders where the owner is. Surely a kid isn't running an entire business by himself?
Nedzu has a new online chess competitor. Mightymight69 has been tying him for the last few weeks. He's not going to let this potential go down the drain.
Or:
Inko liked fucking with people and after her death Izuku does too.
