I know sometimes I go a biiit too far on toxic dom top Aventurine but ugh, it's just a natural reaction to all the stuff going on over on the other side. What goes through Ratio's mind when he sees Aventurine's tattoo?

I was gonna write something to answer you anon, but it ended up turning into a drabble, as it is a drabble it isn't very tightly themed as I do with most of my works, but I think it encapsulates enough!

One detail too, stuck out among the rest, though Veritas tried to ignore it. He had endeavored to not let it bother him, not to let him assume things as people had the propensity to do upon seeing such a thing. And yet he could not deny that the commodity code on his neck bothered him in many different ways that he had enough to pick individual feelings apart.

D: You wanted to delete the Diamond part of the fic? What was the feedback that made you consider that? I find that fic honestly one of the most interesting aspects in the entire series you've written so far, because Diamond is depicted so menacing and controlling and it makes the Aventurine/Ratio relationship seem so much more dangerous for both. Even more so when it goes along with the little chatlogs fic.

No feedback, I just noticed people who read it read it for bottom Aven and nothing more and some of the earlier comments kinda go there, but it's still there and it'll probably stay there. Makes my skin crawl a bit. I just had to do a lot of thinking whether or not I was contributing to uwu baby crybaby weak Aventurine but I still like how he pulled himself up by himself, was willing to do that by himself and all he actually needed from Ratio was to hear his voice (hence the phonecall in the sickfic in the drabble series)

but yeah ultimately it does stay there because I want for them to have a reason to not just, be too open about what they want from each other (they are failing at this everyone kinda knows or can surmise), other than they are both dumb dumbs, even after the events of Penacony but until I have more Diamond food it just stays that way for now, maybe.

Your characterisation of the relationship between Diamond and Aventurine was interesting, I was wondering if you had a specific background in mind regarding Diamond and his thoughts on the situation between Aven and Ratio?

Thank you, Anon! I'm kind of mixed feels now about Diamond / Aventurine myself now because it is my only "bottom" Aventurine ship and I have grown a hefty dislike (understatement) for bottom Aventurine (though honestly I see Diamond dominant bottoming him with bdsm too) I was supposed to erase this work due to mild discomfort how people seem to view this as the reverse dynamics for Aven/Ratio ship but after I reviewed it I still wrote him strong and resistant in a not dumb crybaby way so it remains..

Anyway, I just characterize Diamond as a highly pragmatic CEO type, ikemen, not old at all but very beautiful/handsome (kinda see him like a genderbent Ragyo Kiryuin, idk) but I figure he's a little insane, and the way he treats Aventurine is a warped form of his love that isn't necessarily possessive, but fond and started off healthy, but gradually the activities became more and more intense that Aven just didn't know how to say no to it. There's a sense of "testing the limits" and "being more than just your best" in what Diamond wants to impart to Aven and he does have affection for Aventurine just not in the way Aventurine wants or needs.

I wrote in my fic that Aventurine thinks Diamond isn't convinced, but Diamond already has an inkling of Aventurine's affections for Ratio, just not how deep (he doesn't know that Aventurine bought that statue for one) and Diamond doesn't think much of it for now, but he has been trying to get Aventurine to be attached to someone, usually one of his "spies" but Aventurine always picks up on it and sends it away. It's a double purpose thing that Diamond does in my headcanon, to keep Aven from going off the edge completely and to have some leverage over Aventurine because a lucky gambler who has nothing to lose is a dangerous one, so he'd be quite happy with the development, to have some consequences to dangle over Aventurine's head if he needs it, not that he will use it.

Sooo this is just my little way of maintaining some tension, to have Aven be on his toes about Diamond and make him a little less eager to jump into his relationship with Ratio and be so open about it. He'll never really quite untangle the feelings of hate and love for Diamond, but it's completely separate from his love for Ratio.

What types of horror stories would Ratio and Aventurine like? Would they enjoy existential/psychological, ones with monsters, slasher, 80s horror, horror comedy, etc.

Mostly all of it other than the religious horror I feel (unless it's really thoughtful? Like Begotten...) but then they might have some fun Aeon-themed movies/vids/immersia in HSR-verse so anything is free game. In general--

Ratio would like the thoughtful ones, anything deep and abstract so more psychological leaning, more about people and the madness of the mind in a way. Aventurine would like monster horror with a lot of action

Existential and psychological horror would be the things they would really enjoy I feel. I do still imagine them having a long talk about SOMA the game simply because I do really feel that game informs someone of their values/what they hold in importance. There's just a lot for them to talk about with horror like that and I think rather than being afraid they do feel that "wow I'm glad we won't experience that" feeling and cuddle harder XD

I do think they also have fun with monster horror thrillers etc, I think Ratio gets jumpscared sometimes and spills his popcorn (Mr Unfazed Poker Face Aventurine only very rarely!) haha very cute to think about.

Philosophy is just really fun for mme, especially as a basis of a character's ideals/motivations/state of mind for me and how it all fell into place with Aven and Ratio is really I was excited about, glad it resonated! I really do want to explore this. I always had it in my mind that Diamond *plays* with Aventurine and Sugilite and perhaps even Sapphire, but has something deeply personal and toxic with Oswaldo. It's just that HSR hasn't given us much of anything. I can extrapolate juuust a little bit of Diamond (terribly pragmatic, perhaps generous and rational/logical) but Oswaldo is like a blank.

I'll think about something, because it'd be rough to wait years for this as HSR seems to want to do lmao. I have to basically OC-fy Oswaldo and Diamond though... thinking

I also have a lot of Aventio projects down the line already... ooh we'll see, trying out to condense some stuff into thread fics on TWT

Given how Aventurine views his own life and mortality, how would he react if someone - say Ratio or someone he considers to be a good friend - says to him, "I would miss you if you died."

What kind of realization he would have with the knowledge that there are people who genuinely care for him to the point where they would mourn him if he were to die.

I think it wouldn't be a terrible thing to say to Aventurine. I always find him to be terribly lonely in the IPC, since he would either have a lot of racism and discrimination against him or like a kind of pity party thing going on because of his commodity code, so for someone he is close with to say that to him with sincerity, I think it would pull him back from being too reckless. Maybe make him think thrice instead of twice when he makes a life or death gamble.

The thing is though, in the heat of the moment where he would have to make the choice to throw his life down to stake it against what he wants to get, all those feelings cannot compare to the momentary thrill between winning it all and losing it all. I do think him betting his life is part of the struggle to control his luck, he maybe has an inkling it endeavors to keep him alive, and to put him in the most advantageous state, so he doesn't bet paltry things when he needs to win.

I like to think he would appreciate the sentiment but also harden himself against it, especially if/when he finds something he wants to accomplish, we don't know if he's got more motivations or he will get a new one or something, but like, he's a really determined guy, he gets what he wants, such things like emotions or feelings will not get in his way for sure and I also think he doesn't form a lot of close bonds because he doesn't want to weigh all that he would lose when he needs to make his bet. That's how he wins, he cannot lose his edge.

It's always why I don't personally characterize him as a man who longs for the white picket fence dream with kids and stuff. I do feel he feels accomplishment of his goals is better, but that's just an extrapolation of like, how he is. Ratio being the only exception as his sole drive/inspiration to want to live/win is also really romantic to me and I kinda want to keep it that way

Respectfully, Dr Ratio doesn't have savior complex. This is fundamental to his character. He doesn't think it's his duty to save everyone, he thinks he should equip people to save themselves but it's not his job to save everyone. He also doesn't seek recognition for his actions. If he had savior complex he would act different with Aventurine I feel.

Sunday is the one who has savior complex. The entire 2.2 is about Sunday and his desire to save everyone.

Not to be a hater but i kinda hate the characterization of Aventio/Ratiorine as "aventurine is broken and ratio wants to fix him" cuz it just feels demeaning to aventurine. Hes not "broken" and he doesnt "need fixing" and definitely doesnt need to be "saved" by Some Priviliged Guy ugh. Like i totally understand if its projection and u wanna daydream abt sexy man taking care of u i get it but it just feels so OOC and wrong and i dont like the idea that someone is broken and needs fixing if theyre traumatized (no hate tho do what u want people)
