once i hit 100 followers on my sideblog, i'll be taking bbc merlin and arthurian art requests from my followers. i want to post more of my designs and get into the writing aspect, but i also don't want to have so few followers when i do that the posts flop... here's my attempt at posting "advertising" for this project! ⭐️

Young Bruce abandons logic and cries out to Diana, reaching for what he won’t be able to grasp, her disappearing form. He must try anyway.

Old Bruce feels his anguish in a more quiet manner, but maybe also wonders with the bold outburst of his younger counterpart if his relationship with Diana has become so much more than in his own timeline. Does he think of the illogical moment years ago where he first had the same outburst in Gorilla City? How is it that his younger self has not yet been able to suppress this?

But… once again, they both push back their emotions for the sake of the mission.

Speaking of dark fantasy comics with a dash of fairytale, I want to share one I recently read and that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is not entirely fairytale, in fact some could argue it is not a fairytale work at all... But it is an Arthuriana series, with some Shakespeare sprinkled on top, all about folktales and legends, so it might interest some of you?

"Once and Future". It is a dark action and urban fantasy comic starting with a very simple premise. A clumsy but quite buff university literature teacher is threatened at gunpoint by his grandmother that escaped from her retirement home: she forces him to get involve with a group of English nationalist terrorists who stole an ancient sword and are performing a rite to awake King Arthur himself... Except there's one problem: if the prophecy says that Arthur will return at Britain's darkest hour, it forgot to mention it is because Arthur will cause this darkest hour...

"Once and Future" is about this strange monster-hunting family who are in fact trying to prevent the mythical and legendary entities of Britain's many legends and folktales from returning into the human world (with the added twist that people can actually weaponize the roles and archetypes of myths by taking on their identities or acting like them). Mixing supernatural tragedy and cynical humor (with quite an influence from famous British fantasy fictions you'll easily recognize), the comic is mostly about the Arthurian mythos as it forms the core and bulk of the plot, but other important figures of England's folklore and literature pop up, from Beowulf to Robin Hood passing by King Lear, all while the author plays a lot with the evolution of those figures throughout the centuries and their ancient origins vs the romanticization of modern era.

The fairytale part comes from one specific event (from the issue 21 onward) where one of the stories manifested into the world is the one of Jack and the Beanstalk, targetting a poor secondary character who happens to be named Jack and to have had interactions with a cow. And while I am not the biggest fan of the design for a lot of the supernatural character (which has this sort of Spawn artstyle going on), I absolutely ADORE the design of giants in this comic because their appearance (as well as those of fairies) are very clearly homages to the monsters of Guillermo del Toro and I love it:
