Things were going fine and then they weren't. One second Speedy was sniping the bad-guys from his tower of crates, the next he was plummeting through the air and every blood and soil idiot on the dock was whipping their sights in his direction. Landing wasn't the problem-he could give Robbie a run for his money on the acrobat stuff-it was the crossfire he was worried about; shrapnel and gunfire were blazing toward him from every direction and there wasn't a scrap of cover in sight.
It'd be like shooting fish in a barrel.
Chapter 9: In the wake of Arrow’s departure, an uncomfortable silence fell over the room.

- the chicago resident , oliver farrow , was heard blaring i'm still your boy by luke hemmings this morning . the twenty-seven year old is a sports journalist in the city & has lived the west tower for 4 years . since being here , they have been told to be - melancholic , but also + adventurous , i guess we'll find out soon !
𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 . . .

name: oliver farrow nickname: ol, olive, ollie birthplace: denver , co birthday: august 13th 1997 zodiac: leo gender: cis man pronouns: he/him sexual orientation: bisexual occupation: sports journalist ( retired pro snow boarder ) likes: romance novels, live music, the color blue, jumping head first into everything , stargazing after a bad day , the smell of a new book , kisses that are meant to shut you up , his baby blue jeep , singing in the shower when he thinks no one is listening. dislikes: math , arrogant people , the taste of a martini , having his competence questioned, when people walk away in the middle of an argument , family dinners , going to the airport. character inspo: dante quintana ( aristotle & dante discover the sevrets of the universe ) , clint barton ( marvel ) , cam saunders ( degrassi ) , mako ( legend of korra ) . )
𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
oliver was born and raised in denver, colorado . as the son of a political analyst and lawyer, he's always known a life of privilege. at seven years old he stole a lunch tray from the cafeteria and used it to slide down a mountain in his backyard, as he sat in the emergency room with a cast on his arm he decided that he would dedicate his life to snowboarding.
with his parent's resources, the young thrill seeker spent his afternoons on a mountain training with the best coach money could buy. by age 12 he had several medals under his belt, and by 15 he was training to make his debut at the junior olympics. brands started knocking on his door and before he knew it sports illustrated dubbed him a rising star . much to everyone's surprise fame didn't seem to affect the teen , he was good in front of a camera but once the flashes died he retreated inside of himself.
as a kid who was often neglected due to his parent's work , oliver found comfort in the pages of various romance novels his nanny used to lend him . when he was sixteen a ray of light came into his life, a boy his age that attended the same gym. behind his conservative parents backs, he discovered that he was bisexual. what was supposed to be a secret romance came to light after someone leaked the story to a sports magazine. it's no coincidence that the day after a large sum of money was withdrawn from the farrow's bank account the boy he'd grown so fond of moved away and blocked his phone number.
by age 20 he scored a gold medal for the united states , making him one of the most famous athletes in the country. it seemed that oliver had all the cards stacked in his favor - never mind the fact that his relationship with his parents sucked or that people only approached him because they wanted a piece of him - no one could deny he was at the best anyone had seen in years.
four years after his big win, oliver was getting ready for his second shot at a medal when he got into an accident that would alter the course of his life. he remembers his heart pounding inside his helmet, the white that decorated the track as he soared, and the moment everything went black. three surgeries and a busted hip later the doctors told him he would never compete again
devastation came without precursor , what he loved the most suddenly ripped from his grasp. he moved to chicago for a fresh start and scored a job as a sports journalist. the glass has never been half full for the farrow boy and with anger as his new best friend he's trying to find a way to live in this new reality.

Conner Gets a Dad (Kind of)
by Varmint
Oliver laughed and shook his head, letting out a sighed, "Kids." that made Greg glare over at him before he too sighed and nodded along with him.
Things weren't perfect.
He was here for Conner, but had been able to do so only after he had told Lex that they would have to leave their long awaited reunion for the next week because he couldn't possibly leave Ollie and Dinah alone with the teenaged hellions known as Young Justice. His life was hectic and his schedule was always jam packed now and he was struggling to keep a proper balance to all facets of his life.
But he wasn't about to lie to himself and say he regretted anything.
When Conner stepped out and came straight to him to offer him the first drink to be handed out, he got all of the validation he needed to know that he was doing the right thing.
OR!
Lex Luthor doesn't try to hide Conner from Greg.
Greg was made to be a parent.

so here’s the thing i 100% get why it’s sometimes easier to just bump up a character’s origins instead of doing a bunch of crazy time travel machinations to explain why they are still young and operating in the modern era.
i get it. especially with human characters who are mostly rooted in the “real world,” and who are being poised to be consumed by modern and generalized audiences it can be tricky to bring in their wacky convoluted time travel histories.
having said that, i do think it’s important to remember where these characters came from. For example, a huge chunk of the original Golden Age mystery men were born out of the outrage and PAIN of the Great Depression.
By virtue of their age (mostly in their early 20′s in the late 30′s & early 40′s) all these characters had spent the bulk of their formative years in the throes of the Great Depression. For example, The Vigilante’s (Greg Saunders/Sanders) date of birth is usually put somewhere near the end of WW1 (so 1918 ish) which means he was about 11 yrs old on Black Tuesday. And while the US began recovering around ‘33, we all know the full recovery didn’t really occur until the US began involvement in WW2 (1941).
So basically, from 11 YOA to 23 YOA. Essentially, his formative years. And that’s about normal for the heroes of his era. Which means they saw first hand, the suffering of regular people during this time. They saw what happened when the government allowed industry to go unregulated. They saw the way wealthy industrialists took advantage and preyed upon regular people. They saw the corruption and the unwillingness of the government to protect the people from the insatiable greed of the market. They saw how there was one system for the rich and one system for the poor/regular people. Where a wealthy industrialist could buy their way out of any trouble but a poor man who couldn’t pay his rent because of reasons beyond his control (the Depression) got evicted and people with no money were thrown onto chain gangs and into work houses for stealing food.
They saw all that stuff and some of them LIVED that stuff. Remember, there’s a good chunk of the original mystery men who were explicitly BLUE COLLAR. Not everyone was Ollie Queen (rich kid) or even Lee Travis (newspaper man who, in spite of his progressive views, still thought of profits as the primary goal---until his big hero turn that is). Hell, The Vigilante (Greg) was from RURAL Wyoming so you know he’s seen some shit.
The point is, many from this original crop of superheroes were born because they saw that the system was either unwilling or unable to dispense justice. Their very existence is an INDICTMENT of that system.
And THEN you have the fact that pretty much all of these original guys and gals were hardcore anti-fascists. A HUGE chunk of their adventures involve beating the holy hell outta Nazis and not giving one flying fuck about the fact that the US wasn’t actually at war with them yet. Remember, Pearl Harbor is Dec. 1941. Tons of these folks pre-date that.
In fact, when many of these heroes fought Nazis pre-US involvement in the war, it was explicitly because the writers were making a statement about how the US needed to do something about the genocidal fuck heads currently goose stepping across Europe. Again, these heroes are being used to indict the powers that be for their unwillingness to do what’s right.
So basically, this original crop of heroes were steeped in and formed by the tragedy and injustice of the Great Depression; and then they were champions of the anti-fascist movement. These are not just cute and cuddly dudes and dudettes. These characters had some real bite to them. Why do you think so many of them didn’t show up a lot during the 50′s and early 60′s but then started leaking back in during the late 60′s and 70′s?
Remember, even after the US joined WW2, there were tons of Americans who still didn’t really have a problem with what Nazis did or stood for. So for these guys and gals to be kicking Nazi teeth in on the reg was actually quite a statement. Also, don’t forget that even DURING the Great Depression, there were plenty of people who thought the folks pointing out the injustice and corruption of the system were the bad guys. It’s no coincidence that there’s some overlap between Group A and Group B.
In other words, these were not, by in large, enforcers of the status quo. Quite the opposite in fact.
So, basically, what i’m saying is: when you remove any character from their original context, you would do well to AT LEAST remember it and write accordingly.
