For the past few years, Hunter Greene has been saving money for his transition. But his dreams are dashed just as he approaches the finish line, when the powers that be block the biotech company that he was going to transition with. All hope is not lost however, as his manager, a robot named Aster, has been brewing something behind the scenes for quite a while now . . .

Old Haunts is a choose your own adventure style visual novel set in an alternate, cyberpunk-esque present. There are a total of six different endings, each route taking about 3-4 hours to play through, depending on how fast you read. I wanted to do multiple things with this project. Including commenting on the current wave of transphobia in our society and also try my hand at making a proper choose your own adventure style game. Something that didn't boil down to 'do you want to be a good person and rescue the puppy? or do you want to be a bad person and murder the puppy?'.

I returned to that place. That old building I used to live in, the one that housed every one of our dreams. It was a well-built place. Sturdy. Full. Alive. And I roam its halls now buried in dust, faded paper crawling off the walls, history embedded in the flooded carpets, everything yellow like a treasured old photograph you lost and thought you'd never find. You could feel the spirits through its walls, the echoes of voices of the bodies that had since moved on. Here my flesh and bones remember you. I brush the books we used to read and I find your voice in between the lines. The nostalgia hurts so good it makes me want to go back, but I can't go back. The hands of the clock hang frozen in time as if it stopped marking our hours the moment we died. And if you ask me if I'd resurrect that perfect bubble of time, how could you even ask? I loved you with all my heart, how could I not want you back?

One Thousand

This is the one-thousandth post on this little website. It’s wild to think I’ve gotten to this point at all. Wilder still that it’s been nearly four years since I hit a milestone here. (Previously: 800. 600. 400. 200.) When I was last here, I had just finished draft one of Gleam Upon the Waves, a book that has been out for a few years now, and a work of which I am incredibly proud. He pulls her into a warm, deep embrace, burying his face in her neck, her hair. Chrissy gasps in delight, holding him tight, breathing him in, feeling as though her heart could burst.

So this is what it’s supposed to feel like.

Lingering a moment more, she moves to sit up while he falls back to lay back on the mattress, arms spread out on either side of him. Some of his ecstasy still lingering apparently.

“The others will be here soon,” she tells him, glancing at the clock, only to hear him chuckling behind her.

She glances over her shoulder, habitually tucking her knees up to her chest.

“What?” she asks, giggling at the sight of him laying flat like that, all spread out, his eyes closed contentedly, laughing to himself.

“Give me a minute, okay?” he says between breaths. “I just nailed the Queen of Hawkins High last night.”

“Oh my God, Eddie,” she whispers to herself, feeling her whole body flushing so violently she has to hide her face in her hands.

He only chuckles all the louder, clearly not sorry at all. She whips around in annoyance, crawling over him purposefully, taking his chin in her hand, giving it a firm little shake. “I’ll let you have your moment, but never,” she chokes on a laugh as he feigns to listen very, very intently, a mischievous, eager glint in his eyes. She presses on regardless, trying valiantly to be serious and stern. “Ever phrase it like that again.”

“No?” he asks with a snicker, a pleasantly warm hand sliding up her thigh, all the tingles returning in full force. “How would you like me to phrase it?”

Her mouth forms a line as she tries not to give him the pleasure of a smile, releasing his chin. “I don’t know…but not like that.” she concludes snootily, swatting his reaching, grabby hand away playfully.

He leans up, snagging the back of her neck and kissing her slow and savoring. She moans in surrender, easing slowly back down against the bed as he rolls on top of her. He’s just short of crushing her, but she only revels under the weight of his body.

“I’m sorry,” he chastises himself, peppering her with doting little kisses she would have never thought him capable of all up and down her face. “I made sweet, sweet love to the Queen of Hawkins High last night. That better?”

She makes a disapproving sound in the back of her throat as she pinches softly up and down his ribs, causing him to break out into a fit of warm intoxicating laughter.

I wish i worked at a haunted house just so i cab have ny own hallway where there are speakers and i have a microphone and i just ask very personal questions and im dressed up as a over bearing mother.

Why was there drug dust in your room are you fucking satan high you shud not be high so you can know your regrets.

I'm hoping to finish Old Haunts before the end of the month, but I do have a demo out right now!

I am being so serious when I say: if you have the financial and time privilege to get a group of friends together and make an indie project, PLEASE do. Indie games, indie animations, indie comics etc etc

the art industries are kind of in the shitter. It’s not so much because of AI (though that doesn’t help) but because studios just aren’t hiring people and funding projects anymore. People who’ve been in the industry for decades are finding themselves struggling, and once you have a mortgage or kids it’s harder to do something as risky as making something on your own.

completing projects is hard. it takes a lot of time and effort, and most people can’t afford it. so if you CAN afford to make art, even at the risk of no financial gain, I strongly encourage you to be as resilient as you can. We’re at a point where these industries are not going to turn around by themselves, and waiting for jobs to open up again in order to get experience and portfolio work might not be realistic.

people have been making art and telling stories longgggg before we were getting paid for it, and people aren’t going to stop just because no one has hired them to do so.

for everyone else: support indie artists when you can!!!! That person who made that cool indie game or youtube animation or webcomic might be doing this full time! your support might be the only reason they’re able to keep doing it.
