Rural Appalachia

To the place that I call home,
To all the forests that I’ve known,
To the whispering of the trees and the knowledge in the breeze.
You have raised me up well, it’s time to go inside when I hear the bell.
For there are things in the night when the owls take flight.
This is when we rest, for in the day surely we did our best.
Blow out the candle my dear, we do not stir and remember we do not hear.

Colter Wall being Canadian is really, really funny to me. Considering Johnny Boy's Bones. Mister, you have no grasp on that whatsoever.

today was by far one of the best days of summer so far! it was one of those where the heat was thick and slow moving and the sun just bore down on us all day long. those are some of my favorite days. i started my day off doing laundry, then i went in for a job interview. (it went well, i have training tomorrow!) to celebrate i had a tomato sandwich at the creek, i got tomatoes from the garden and sourdough from about a week ago. after i ate i swam for an hour and waded about a half mile up the creek.
then, in the evening i got to go to my cousins wedding. as the ceremony progressed, a rainbow formed over the newly weds! to those who don’t know: in appalachia and other protestant-heavy regions much emphasis is put on religious symbolism. in the old testament book, Genesis, the Lord sends a rainbow to signify that he will never again flood the earth and seeing rainbows is now a signal to christians that God keeps his promises. so having a rainbow on your wedding day is a symbol of a healthy marriage to come.
(i’m not sure if you can see the rainbow on the camera, but here is my best shot of it)
