Something that’s always missing whenever people talk about Lyanna and the Kingsguard at the Tower of Joy is that these things should always circle back to Jon Snow. He’s our main character here. Rhaegar and Lyanna, as well as the Kingsguard, are all dead. They were dead before this story began. This tiny section of text is meant to give color to Jon — who is alive, and whose story is currently unfolding. The events at the Tower of Joy, told entirely through Ned’s fever dream for a reason, essentially serve as one thing: fantasy protagonist myth building 101. Three wise men, a legendary magical sword, some of the greatest knights of an era, a dying queen lady, the end of an age, a dead prince, a dead king, and then here comes a soon to be completely orphaned prince whose life hangs on the balance and whose survival depends on the compassion of one lord and his wizard friend. GRRM is literally retelling King Arthur’s backstory through Jon. This whole thing is one giant literary allusion to Uther and Igraine and the boy king Arthur, to Lancelot and his Joyous Guard, to Guinevere, and to tragic romances. It reads as an ode to Arthurian fantasy and is meant to backdrop the main protagonist’s fantastical origins. The Kingsguard are there to play into that. Their presence at the Tower, in that moment, was never about Lyanna; not solely, anyway. Their presence is tied to Rhaegar’s last surviving male child, and the language used suggests that they had chosen their king, for better or worse. Any discussion surrounding the Kingsguard’s presence at the Tower that focuses on anyone but Jon completely misses the point imo.

I think the Batfam meeting MJ in the future would be a funny thing. Idk what sort of personality or attitude she’s going to have but I see her being really sarcastic and possibly being Peter’s voice of reason (like telling him the truth or just being completely honest with him, even if it’s not the thing he wants to hear)

that's 100000% the plan for her. i wanted to take inspo from some different Mary Jane's... except the Toby McGuire version. I dunno what it is and I don't speak ill about women characters because i will defend her with my life however i just can not like her. but anyway!! she's going to be leaning into a bit of alternative styles (i have yet to figure out her niche so don't @ me on this yet folks I haven't even gotten to write her), she wants to be a movie star, she's really into advocating for the earth and for people's rights (she's very active in these circles), she's taking self defense classes, etc. she's definitely not afraid to speak her mind but not in a "oh i'm brutally honest" way but in a "i genuinely think we need to have a talk" way. she is not a fan of authority figures unless they can prove themselves to her, and she is incredibly loyal to her friends. i wish i could write more about how she'll be in their dynamic but it would be spoilers so i'll force myself to zip it but know that i am SO excited to write her

I was in the shower and had an idea. Jaime’s first gay crush being on Ned when he entered the throne room in the Red Keep all Aragorn-like, and for half a second Jaime thinks everything’s gonna be okay bc there’s a guy here to help and he is kinda attractive in that moment, only for that crush to die a horrible death when Ned starts talking. 30 second first gay crush speedrun, happens so fast that Jaime takes another several years to realize he’s attracted to men. This is nonsense, bye

i like the vision but two main points of contention

1. no way he is his first gay crush i mean cmon thats literally arthur westerosi american psycho dayne

2. jaime is enough of a deranged lunatic that the unfair hatred and scorn makes the crush kinda worse actually

A Song of Ice & Fire AU idea: Jon is the only boy Stark of his generation. Ned & Cat have five daughters.

Robert "steamroller" Baratheon arrives in Winterfell to demand Ned be his new Hand and to engage his eldest son to Ned's eldest daughter. When Ned points out Robb is Ned's heir apparent and future Lady Paramount of the North, and therefore can't marry Joffrey and be Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Robert just goes "Well I'm sure that son of yours will be excellent as Lord Paramount, seeing as how you raised him Ned!" and promptly legitimizes Jon.

Catelyn is furious about this, right up until Robb quietly goes "Aw, but I wanted to marry Theon," at which point Catelyn is still furious but also 100% onboard with the Robb-Joffrey betrothal.

Bran still gets pushed out a window. But now Arya & Rickon are both there with him after Catelyn leaves.

Sansa still goes to King's Landing, but this time it's as her older sister's companion. Gray Wind and Lady probably survive the journey? But I'm not sure if they'd be allowed in the city let alone the Red Keep, they might have to go hang out in the King's Woods.

Jon is obviously not at the Wall now. The weeks between "King Robert & Ned & company leave Winterfell" and "Catelyn leaves because of the knife" are TENSE AS HELL.

I am honestly not sure how the war goes. Baelish is still up to all his machinations. Sansa has been treated differently because she's not the Presumed Future Princess so she wouldn't go to Cersei when Ned orders her to pack, and I can't imagine Robb doing so, but Ned tipped his hand to Cersei all on his own so that probably doesn't make a difference. The presence or absence of direwolves might.

Jon obviously wants to avenge his dad and rescue his sisters, and Catelyn wants that too, but she is nooot down with him being King in the North and he doesn't trust her to give good counsel (though he still yearns for her approval) so that whole plot is ripe for disaster.

Startled by the sudden, forceful knock on his front door and hardly expecting any visitors, Neds suspicion flares and he grabs his trusty harpoon from the hook on the wall. With a small creak, the door opens just enough to stick the weapons arrow through and peek outside. In a moment of surprise about the sheer height of the person, he knocks the harpoon against the door in a way that makes it swing open a bit further. Ned stops it from swinging all the way open with his foot, and tilts up his head to look them in the eyes. All he finds in the completely masked strangers face are a pair of goggles, so he stares into them instead with wide eyes, seeing his puny frame in the reflection. His pulse quickens, the harpoon translates his frightful shakes into a small rattling noise.

"Who are you?! What do you want?!!" his volume increases, in part to ward off the person he thinks is a burglar, but mostly to build up the courage to be able to shoot another human, should the situation call for it.

"I have nothing of value in here!! M-My team will be here any da-.. any second now to, uh, to kick your bones and, and break your ass!!"

The adrenaline-fueled man, barking as loud as he can, was too distracted covering up the fact that he is alone and helpless to notice the mix-up.
