In May last year, my husband painted the library while I was in Italy. It was such a joy to return to a finished office after my travels. My dad had spackled the library two years prior, and all the sheetrock patches remained visible. It looks beautiful now. We kept the same color as we loved what the previous owners did with it. It's like an old-fashioned Victorian red with hints of rose and gray. The white areas got a facelift with a more cheerful, warm white. I meant to upload these pics last year, which totally skipped my mind. Like Cicero once said, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need."

working retail is making me remember how much i hate stupid customers btw

#so i work in a tiny nonprofit thrift store. right.#its one room w concrete floors and very compact shelving because there is just No Room for anything.#and our office/employee backroom/breakroom is a little corner with wood+canvas dividers separating it from the rest of the store #with LOTS of signs saying employees only nothing is for sale here etc etc etc #and there was a customer today who went through the divider to ''shop'' in the ''other section of the store''#and we didnt even KNOW someone was back there until she brought up one of my coworker's purses to ask how much it was </3 #im so baffled. there are so many signs saying its employees only.#not to mention that the office is full of notes and paperwork and my boss's computer and filing cabinets and the fridge and microwave #its CLEARLY an office/break room. even if you ignore all the signs. and YET.#there's also people who will literally just steal. anything and everything #which like. i will always support shoplifting from walmart or another big retail company. in fact i encourage it.#but a tiny locally owned NONPROFIT thrift store that supports local arts ???? HELLO ????????????????#gah. i should be allowed to throttle one customer per day. i should get paid to do so #most of them are so so sweet. we have regulars who are in almost every day and they are the NICEST people ever #but its just those few who are absolutely the worst most selfish stupid people to ever live #woes from work #winter speaks #all complaining aside i do enjoy my job quite a bit more than i thought i would #i like my coworkers and i feel like im actually connecting with most of them #and i love my supervisor. i have so much respect for her she's an amazing person #you win some you lose some i guess. cool job i actually like but with stupid fucking customers who make me want to MURDER

#need to get this off my chest #ok so i straight up lied to my mum. shes been trying to get me a job out of stocking shelves #and i just. cannot find the motivation to do anything. i dont know what i want to do other than rot away #and im also so fucking scared of everything #so she made me apply for an office job that was mostly data entry and writing/editing #which is fine. easy. but i cant think of anything worse than having to sit on my ass doing boring shit for 8 hours #so when they called me. i didnt pick up #i didnt reply to their message. and my mum has been asking about it for the past 2 weeks cus she was convinced that HAD to call me #that i was a perfect candidate. and i was. but i didnt tell her they called me #i just lied and said they didnt. but she emailed them and they..well they told her the truth #and now shes really pissed at me. but hear me out. she forced me to apply. i didnt fucking want to #and ive already said no to so many jobs that i feel terribly guilty abt it so i just went along with it #lying is so easy yknow?#but i guess lying isnt great when they find out #i feel like shit. shes not even acknowledging me and i hate when shes pissed off at me and i know she should be #but cmon. i didnt want the damn job. why cant i just die honestly #ed stfu challenge #vent

I'm painting my bookshelves and my partners desk to better match our apartment and I forgot how much I love this shit

#My bedroom at my last place was black and green #So my bookshelves and desk are like. Black wood. And it looks Bad with our current living room furniture #Which is light green pink gray and light wood toned #So I'm painting the bookshelves a slightly darker green than our entertainment center and adding some pink accents #And the desk is Jen's now since I have an office at work so I'm painting it blue and white #Since she wants a blue and white gamer setup #Like to be clear the apartment will still Clearly belong to two 23 year olds with no money and no interior design training #But by God it'll be colorful. And that's what matters!#Also it's an 800 square foot apartment and every single open living room wall is lined with bookshelves because i have Too Many Books #So the bookshelves being black makes the room look even smaller that it already is #My last place I had an l shaped room and I had two darker accent walls that made the place look a little bigger #And I turned the smaller side of the L into an office space with my bookshelves so it looked cozy not tiny #But the black shelving doesn't work as well in a living room that is. Frankly. Smaller than the original bedroom #We were renting a house in the middle of nowhere so there was more space for cheaper rent

finally got the new desk set up in my room and cleaned out my dresser nd closet (had barely touched anything in there for Literal Years cuz of how much of a mess they were). feels surreal

#we still gotta figure out a new chair situation cuz the one ive been using #is Not Good its this awful office chair my dad had since before i was even born and its the most uncomfortable thing ever #also theres still a lot in my room that needs to be cleaned…….namely everything on top of the dresser XD #nd i gotta sort out a lot of my closet still ive been using it to store all my art n stuff for years its piled up so much stuff #that ive been meaning to get more organized AND scanned since its just. so much theres no real way i could take all of it #whenever i end up moving out.. i want to be able to still look back on it even if its not all physical #i found some goofy stuff while throwing out these old binders frm middle school i might post em #inquisitivewaltz.txt #realizing as im typing this out its a little. silly that this feels like such a big accomplishment #my rooms been fucking disgusting and an absolute mess for years now and im not very good at taking care of. well anything #so little stuff like this feels sorta relieving like. im kind of getting my life together in some sorta way #idk #oh wait also we didnt end up having to move as much as originally expected which im #pretty happy about i was really reluctant abt getting the new desk purely cuz itd completely alter the layout of my room #….which isnt very good rn but i didnt want to have to deal w the new thing i know for a fact what my parents had planned wouldve been worse #also the new desk has shelves so have more room to put shit and itll hopefully be actually more organized instead of #just throwing things onto my dresser and forgetting it even existed in the first place becuz it gets completely buried by everythint else
