According to the 1917 Code of Canon Law, newly discovered territory is placed under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the port of departure, which means that following the 1969 Moon Landing, which was based out of the Diocese of Orlando, the moon is a part of this diocese. The current Bishop of the Moon is His Excellency John Gerard Noonan, who is a Limerick man.
