an angel dies I DIE everytime I meet a fellow Silco enthusiast who can’t accept he was a bad father. I am clawing and bouncing off the walls of my padded enclosure, stop defending his parenting!!! He was a shit father!!! A good dad wouldn’t raise their child to be violent and hateful; a good dad wouldn’t enable and nurture resentment and aggression.
Silco being a loving but horrible father is such a big part of his character that I struggle to understand how people can enjoy his writing but deny/defend it simultaneously.
Silco did not love Jinx in a way that meant doing what’s best for her— it was loving her no matter what she did. He loved her so much that when he had a chance to get his Nation of Zaun at her expense, he gave it up! He gave it all up. Something he desired for so long.
I LOVE talking about Silco’s bad qualities!!!! He’s so interesting, I want to bake him into a gingerbread man.
I could yap longer but I’m out of words and sleep deprived. :,D
Feel free to correct me on anything or give your opinion!! I do not pride myself on how well I am able to articulate my thoughts.
TLDR; If you’re going to like my pretty princess drug lord, don’t deny the aspect that’s such an integral part of him! And uuhhh loving father ≠ good father.

“I never would’ve given you to them, not for anything. Don’t cry. You’re perfect.”
“A thousand times I've imagined this moment. All we've ever wanted— the boy didn't even haggle. And what do I lose but problems. Oh, it all makes sense now, brother. Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?”
“It’s okay, we’ll show them. We will show them all.”

I hate how sonamy shippers use the "it's just slapstick, it's comedy!" argument as a get out of jail free card whenever someone criticizes Amy's bad behavior with her crush in the 2000s. That doesn't automatically excuse all criticism
Nevermind that many fans still give Tails flack for his controversial moments in Lost World and Forces, to the point where the Wildly Inconsistent line in Frontiers was an extremely on-the-nose nod to those complaints in a bid to pat itself on the back for regurgitating his SA1 arc and pretending it's new. If criticism is allowed for the divisive portrayals of the rest of the cast, it should be allowed for Amy's as well. I don't care if she got too much hate in the past, because the opposite extreme isn't any better, and that applies twice as much if it frequently involves dragging other characters through the mud or undermining their own achievements, be it Tails, Knuckles, Cream, Elise, etc.
In general, while vindication by history is one thing, the way so many blatantly bad choices have been getting the "it's actually really clever because..." retcon has been driving me batty. Battle!Amy is good now, because muh flaws (there are better ways of showing her intentional flaws). Silver trusting Mephiles immediately is good now, because muh naivety (except I thought his naivety wasn't supposed to make him an outright idiot). Eggman being upstaged in every game is good now, because it compliments muh themes (who cares about the long term damage to his reputation). I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Insert r/BatmanArkham joke here.
If any awful or questionable character moment can be spun as though it was secretly clever and well thought out all along... why bother criticising anything? Why bother criticising anything in IDW? Why bother criticising anything in Prime?

Danganronpa 3, of course.
Well, sort of....it is canon to the V3 universe.
Here's a fun game: What does Kodaka himself deem to be canon in the Danganronpa series that you absolutely REFUSE to accept as canon?
EDIT: This post was NOT made with the intention of hating or disrespecting Kodaka and the Danganronpa series, so please refrain from that kind of talk. This post was made just out of curiosity to see what choices of the series that people personally disagreed with (because no franchise is completely perfect).
P.S: For those who are replying that the entire series sucks... then why are you even here?

Okay here it is:
The blind about him running like a maniac on the witcher set with a pal writer to redo everything and boss around producers, delay the show, costing them money, etc was very telling. I'm not skeptical of it at all, especially considered he's already been soft-fired by Hollywood. Him doing a "warhammer movie" which has no funding, directors, or studio was just damage control. Him now attached to The Highlander is a huge step down. He went from the #1 franchise, Superman, to the #50 Witcher, and is now #500 with Highlander. Argylle was at best a b-movie by streaming tv standards, let alone Hollywood standards.
I think its clear he's very difficult to work with and has regressive views (see his commentary on oscarssowhite and metoo). I think that was tolerated because he brought in the big dollars, but when he went ape on the Witcher, I think that scared capital, and no one messes with Hollywood's money and gets unpunished. Before he was just punching down on lower-tier actors, minorities, and women, which is sadly fine in Hollywood, but he went up against cishet rich white men on the Witcher, and that's a death sentence for an A-list career.
Considering how quickly DC got rid of him I suspect there's unspilled tea from Superman too. Essentially he made a huge debut Superman film, then was sidelined into side parts only to get double billing with Batman then fired later. I think there's a lot unspilled about him and when it comes out its going to be worse that we might assume.
The world is full of attractive men who can "act." DC just did the calculus that its easier to replace him. I think he overplayed a lot of cards with his diva attitude. He's just a mediocre actor and easily replaced, and that's what happened.
Other than that, he tends to date conservative coded women, his main charity is a military one, low-key supports Tory politics, his metoo/oscarssowhite comments are alt-right-coded, and he is probably a closeted conservative himself.

Sonamy?
This one was bound to come up. Well, if you're asking for it...
As close friends? 8/10. When they're allowed to just bond naturally, it can lead to some good moments between them.
As a ship? 2/10.
I recognize that, as the closest thing this franchise has to an official and "canon" ship, of course it's going to be enduringly popular. But much like with SA2 and Frontiers, popularity on its own doesn't mean anything to me. In the three decades that Sonamy has existed as a concept, and the two decades that I've been a Sonic fan, I've never came around to it, because official material fumbles so hard and so frequently with it, whether it be Amy's flanderized crazy girl period (Battle, Chronicles), or Sonic having his character off-kilter in order to justify the shipteasing (Boom, Prime).
Fan portrayals aren't much better, with how often Sonic's agency in the matter might as well not exist because "she's earned him!", like he's a glorified trophy. And while it's not unsurprising that a ship that's been around for so long is going to have wildly different interpretations depending on the story, fanart, or three hour ted talk, it says a lot when I've seen far more consistency with the portrayal of other ships relating to this franchise that have existed for a long time in their own right. It becomes difficult to confirm what the true end form of Sonamy is even supposed to be beyond "she finally got him", and because of that, it takes me out.
And not to be petty, but... the way fans use anything as confirmation, and make it out to be a bigger deal than it really is, makes me roll my eyes as well. "The evolution of Sonamy"? What evolution? "Sonamy has come so far"? No it hasn't. I know it's common for the shipping goggles to be strapped on a bit too hard when any set of characters so much as exist in the same frame, but still.
Could Sonamy theoretically work if both characters remained in-character, neither flanderized, and with some more organic build up? Maybe. But by this point, with how many chances it's already had to sway me, I've just kind of checked out from it. Sonic and Amy remaining deep friends is A-OK, but as far as shipping goes, I prefer the tol girls for him. :P
I'll say one thing in its favor though: still a lot better than Sonally.

So Silco, Vander and Felicia were friends. The relationship between Silco and Vander crumbled after Felicia's death on the bridge (s1 ep1), but at this point the girls are already quite grown up. Could it be that Silco and Vander have been involved in their upbringing all these years? That's why they approach Vander so calmly on the bridge - they know him. Could Powder have thrown herself into Silco's arms in ep3 because she somehow remembered him and by that time he was the only member of her family?

Sega Canon Eggman's seldom ever bothered me, he doesn't need to change. IDW Eggman's the one I do think could afford to be more like Archie Eggman, and I don't mean any version of Julian Kintobor there, I mean post-reboot!Archie Eggman, who was every bit a cruel, egocentric and power-hungry bastard as Julian and also a legitimate threat but without the same mental instability that Julian had. In IDW, we saw a bit of that Eggman in the early Metal Virus arc, the Eggperial City arc, and how he dealt with Dr. Starline and Clutch, but for the most part Flynn has just written his weird interpretation of Sega Canon Eggman rather than really trying to do his own spin that can nail him as Sonic's greatest foe the way he used to do in Archie.
I’ve seen some people want Eggman in the games and IDW to be more like his Archie counterpart. More ruthless, dangerous, use robotization, etc. The more I thought about it, I think I’ve come to the conclusion to what separates them. For one, the Archie Eggman is clearly insane! He literally had a psychotic break. He still shows signs of instability when things go wrong. Canon Eggman never fell that hard. The other can be explained in this panel in IDW.
Tumblr media
Eggman wants to beat Sonic. Not destroy, but prove he’s better. He can do so whenever he wants, he has the means and supplies. However, for all the trouble Sonic has caused. He even respects Sonic to some extent, which is why he wants a more triumphant victory. That’s why he doesn’t go for the emotional blows. It’s why he didn’t truly torture Sonic in Sonic Forces. That could weaken the Blue Blur, even slightly, and it cheapens the victory. Eggman wants to beat Sonic at his best, and that’s that.
We can even see that a bit in Sonic X.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Sonic goes dark and lashes out, Eggman is the one to talk him down. He did this because Dark Sonic is not who Sonic is. He knows his enemy, and knows Sonic wouldn’t normally fight that way. He’s lashing out in anger, which is not how Sonic fights. As much as he hates him, Eggman is one of the people who knows Sonic best. If he ever did try something to mess with him, he expects Sonic to beat the odds. That’s how Eggman wants to win. To beat Sonic the right way.

Something you need to remember is that journalistic photographers are still artists at heart. When you are providing a source of information that is to be seen as "the truth" you are going to frame things to look a certain way.
You will publish the ones that look like what you want. The framing of Luigi Mangione's transportation is incredibly evocative of paintings of Jesus being arrested. It also (not so) coincidentally is often the framing of a hero being captured for the greater good.
This is ON PURPOSE. Do not discredit the artist by calling it a mistake. This was on purpose. The artist supports him and is framing him as a hero.
No matter how much corporate news may attempt to drown out the support for Mangione, artists always have the ear of the people. A picture is worth a thousand words, isn't it?
