She takes another large bite out of the popcorn ball, looking like a less dignified Snow White eating the poison apple. Laughter bubbles out of you as you watch her try to catch the loose pieces her mouth misses.

It’s your laughter that must remind Abby that she’s not alone. She turns her head to you and raises an eyebrow.

“What’s so funny?” She asks.

You don’t answer her at first, leaning forward to pick off a piece of Popcorn Ball that was sticking to her chin. She had this look on her face that could rival Isaac’s goofy, innocent expressions. Which often features a joyful grin that they just happen to share.

Once her face is clean of a few more pieces, you answer her. “Nothing. You’re just so cute.”

Her confusion makes you laugh again. “I’m cutely funny, not funnily cute and that was your funnily cute laugh. And you just did it again.” Her lips quirk upwards. You know she’s teasing you.

Rolling your eyes, “I am not starting this again with you.” You make a move to get up off the couch and Abby stops you from moving. Now she’s really laughing. Her fingers dig into your sides, tickling you.

“Baby, I’m sorry. I was messing. C’mon, here, where's your Popcorn Ball?”

#24: Family Fun Days (S9E03 & S4E15)

Grimes Family 2.0 has my heart eternally. 🥹 They are the best family to ever grace an apocalypse. And what’s so sweet is during their Family Fun Day in s9 and s4, it truly didn’t even feel like an apocalypse - that’s how much love and joy Rick and Michonne were admirably able to place in their and their kids’ lives. And while the fallen world turned Rick and Michonne into walker-slaying warriors, who they really are to their core are parents. (ours and their kids 😋) So the final Family Fun Day and the first unofficial Family Fun Day are a tie on this list for allowing Richonne to show why they're the greatest parents around...

Starting with the s9 Family Fun Day, one of my favorite parts is when Rick, Michonne, and Judith are walking hand in hand in ASZ. It’s so idyllic and so the type of rewarding happy life these three deserve.

I think back to s5 when Rick and Michonne were outside the gates of ASZ with Carl and baby Judith in the backseat of their car. I love that the leap of faith they took together in coming to this place has now turned into a stable home where they can fully enjoy being family.

I feel like words can’t fully even capture how much I love all this. Their smiles. Michonne cheering Rick on by saying, "come on, daddy." Judith skipping. Rick's countdown. And the way they lift her up and cheer Judith on. Somehow, I never noticed it until this rewatch, but after they lift Judith up, Rick and Michonne say “wow” at the exact same time. Always in sync those two. 🥰

And Rick and Michonne getting to just be parents is the best and so meaningful. After the devastating loss of children, the way Rick and Michonne have risen from those depths of despair and given Judith a beautiful cheerful life is so commendable. And, truly, it speaks to the strength of Rick and Michonne's impact on each other's lives that they can be this healed and happy now.

I’m choked up from just this initial moment and it only gets cuter with each of their activities. It’s clear that this is Judith’s favorite way to spend the day, but make no mistake, this is Rick and Michonne’s favorite way to spend the day too. And I love that Family Fun Days are something they seem to do often and look forward to. (also it's sweet that, throughout the series, we got several indicators that little Judith is a mama's girl 😊)

It was such a joy to see this side of Rick and Michonne, especially knowing we’d only have 2 more eps before Rick’s departure. I love that we got to see Rick just have so much fun as the best girl dad. He deserved to have so many more days like this with his baby girl. 🥲

Also, what I would give to have seen a family fun day that included Rick, Michonne, RJ, Judith, and Carl all together. 😭

The good thing is Rick and Michonne are going to do everything in their power to get home to Judith and RJ, and I have hope TWD's best parents will be able to have plenty more days like this to enjoy with their children whenever the four reunite.

(Side note: Since we're talking Grimes family in this post, can I just say I never understand the complaints about our sweet prince RJ being a regular kid doing regular kid stuff - like ??? To me, it's actually the biggest flex that Rick and Michonne's baby is living a normal life. A whole dang apocalypse hit the earth, and your kid is able to just read comics and ride bikes because, even in the most dangerous possible world, you managed to create some normal (as normal as it can be in that world) stability for your children - What a win. And rather than find him "boring" as a kid under age 10 just living life, I find it heartwarming that RJ Grimes got to be so normal. The mostly peaceful and regular way RJ is living is the very thing Michonne and Rick wanted and fought for. It's the very thing RJ's big brother Carl fought for too. How wonderful that they got what they wanted 🥰👌🏽)

And then the montage includes my absolute favorite visual with the three of them on a picnic blanket all relaxed, with a brief glimpse of Rick handing Michonne a pink flower as Judith seems to notice the way her dad loves her mom. Even in just a .5-second clip of Rick wanting to give Michonne that flower we see yet another example of how Rick so naturally shows love to his wife. 🥰

I love that in s9 especially, Rick was like if y’all don’t know nothing else about me, you’re going to know that I’m head over heels in love with Michonne. And he’s just so good at courting her even in their married era, and I adore how he’s always thinking of how to gift her.

Y’all, everything in this moment (& the deleted picnic scene where Rick expresses wanting more years like this with his wife and kids) gives me so much happiness and peace. Again, it’s so idyllic and tranquil and pretty. I wanted them to live in this moment forever.

The picnic shot is just beauty and I will always cherish it. It makes me think about Carl’s vision in s8, of their family playing hooky. I know Carl would be so proud to see the three of them essentially doing exactly that on this beautiful family fun day. Like this whole montage is truly what Carl wanted most for the three of them. 🥹

To this day, when I see Scott running over while the three are reading, I’m like damn it. 😫 Richonne deserved to have a day to be all about their family and nothing else and Rick and Michonne look like they really do agree with me in the way they both communicate with a wordless look lol.

They don’t want this family time to end, but they know the world is ready to start screaming again. I do like how Rick sees Scott coming but keeps reading tho. Like ‘maybe if we keep reading he’ll just jog past us.’ 😂 

Seeing Rick kiss Judith before joining Michonne and Scott is so sweet and so sad because it’s his final interaction with his daughter before he’s taken away for years. 😭

Rick and Michonne again wordlessly communicate upon learning about that murdered savior, and you can tell they’re both disappointed. And I'm disappointed that Family Fun Day was cut short too, but I also was like, I should've known...

But I adore that this scene, which ends up being Rick and Michonne's last time side by side in the present, does not end on disappointment.

Rick is quiet and looking at Michonne, and then he looks away frustrated and stressed, especially because this new development could jeopardize the unity and safety he and Michonne so badly want to build for their people.

It’s so clear how Michonne feels for him, knowing how much they both wanted to have this day to just be. And then the shot focuses on their hands with Rick’s fist clenched to further illustrate his frustration. 

But Michonne always knows how to offer Rick the exact right uplifting encouragement and so I love that she then takes his hand. The choreo of it is so good with her slowly sliding her hand into his. It’s symbolic for Michonne to be the one who could most help Rick release his fist, thus release the frustration, and hold onto what matters most.

And, of course, Rick is receptive and holds her hand. He can always receive the positivity Michonne instills in him. And so I love that Rick tightly holds her hand and allows that to be the note they can end on together. 

Richonne handholds are always a thing of beauty so I love that their final moment like this ends on that emphasized visual. Even when things fall apart, they’re still in it together. They’re still held together by their love.

Y’all, how do even their hands tell a compelling story? I mean they always have. From exchanging bullets in Clear, to passing mints and holding hands in their canon ep, and this significant final present moment between them. It really does highlight the strength, love, and unity of Richonne's relationship. 

It’s also sweet how Rick and Michonne's official romance began with a handhold, and their final moment ends with one too. And while their journey is about to devastatingly take them on separate paths for years, I really feel like this handhold right here actually never breaks.

In many ways, during their years apart, Rick and Michonne still embarked through life as though their true love was still with them, still holding their hand and supporting them because their love is neverending - as noted in both Rick and Michonne's sentiments during the TWD series finale.

(Side note: There’s this interesting contrast I think about - because with losing Lori, part of what made it so painful on Rick is knowing they never got official closure after they grew distant and their marriage fell apart. But then with “losing” Michonne after he was taken, part of what likely makes it so painful for Rick is that their marriage was in such a great spot. Rick and Michonne were so beyond close, happy together, and hopeful for their future just before Rick was taken away. And that’s a unique pain to just be abruptly plucked from the woman you were so longing to spend the rest of your life with. Where the Lori loss featured an element of mourning a clear closed door, the Michonne “loss” is an element of mourning all the doors he hoped he'd open with her. And I’m really curious to see how Rick has been dealing with that type of pain while away in TOWL)

This whole sequence of events in 9.03 is the definition of precious. And the song in the background pairs so nicely with this heavenly time. I love Grimes Family 2.0, and this was like a beautiful love letter to them.

It was a lovely reward for Rick and Michonne after all they've been through in this series. And I just appreciate how much joy was depicted in every moment Rick got with his girls in season 9. (their opening moment in the s9 premiere also gets an honorable mention cuz I absolutely adore it)

So I called this Family Fun Days plural because before Rick and Michonne so adorably had their day as mommy and daddy with Judith, they had another version of a family fun day out in the woods with Carl. And this moment, along with the s9 montage, are my all-time favorite Grimes Family 2.0 scenes.

This one in season 4 is so meaningful because during their s9 family fun day in ASZ they were enjoying merriment in the safety of their community - but here the golden trio of Rick, Michonne, and Carl are traveling while unsure of where they’ll get their next meal or where they’ll lay their head for the night…and yet they smile. 🥹 The levity found in this moment is so important and heartwarming to see. 

I love that Michonne was so effortlessly able to be a best friend to Carl and helped him have fun even in an apocalypse. I adore the opening of the scene as Rick talks about resources running low and turns around to see Michonne and Carl adorably preoccupied with their train track competition.

Rick turning around to see Michonne and Carl reminded me of the s9 premiere when the first thing we see of Rick is him opening the doors to watch Michonne and Judith.

I know Michonne’s bond with Carl and Judith means the absolute world to Rick. And I can only imagine how moved Rick would (and will) be to see her bond with their adorable son RJ too. 😭

(Again, I'll never get over the fact that Michonne really carried Rick's child. How extremely beautiful. 🥹And soon Rick is going to finally know all about the son he made with the love of his life. Won't He Do It! 🥳)

I always appreciate that Rick walks over to Michonne and Carl, letting them have the moment a little longer, and the way Michonne playfully tries to win their competition. Carl sharing the Big Cat because "we always share" is also just so sweet.

And, of course, you know I love the way that man Rick is grinning while watching and appreciating this wholesome family moment. 🥰The way he keeps sneaking glances at Michonne as he smiles - I forever stand by the fact that Rick has fallen in love with Michonne by this point.💯

Even despite their circumstances, the three seemed so happy in this moment cuz they’re together the way it was meant to be. And I love that Michonne and Rick both valued giving Carl a good childhood against all odds.

In Carl’s devastating final episode "Honor" he tells Michonne "Don't carry this - not this part," and I always like to think that this moment on the tracks is one of the parts of their journey Carl hopes Michonne holds onto instead. Cuz it was such a beautiful happy moment that cemented the three as a family.

And, clearly, she and Rick did choose to carry the good parts with Carl and even pass it on to Judith as they and their daughter so presently enjoyed a day of fun and games seasons later, where for a few hours they didn't have to be community leaders or fierce fighters. Instead, Rick and Michonne just got to be what they so cherished being - mom and dad. Grimes family forever. 🤍

S2 Finale: Showdown at Cremation Creek! Parts 1 and 2 !!

Well then, let's kick things off with the first anime I watched this year: Number 24!

No spoilers here!

This was such a surprise to me, mostly because I'm so used to sports anime following a certain tempo and this one took me on a completely different journey. It was much more about the characters and the bonds they had with each other, the ways they had to overcome frustrations and hurdles both on and off the field. I loved Natsusa more than I thought I would, and the ending scene??? Absolutely broke me, I loved it so much.

This is one of those anime that I thoroughly enjoyed and may even rewatch someday, but that I likely won't write for much if at all. I just enjoyed it for what it was. Though it did have a brief tickle scene in it!

seiichiro couldn't make those kicks because he was worried about natsusa not smiling anymore, he wanted to be the one to make him happy and proud and the possibility of that one thing being taken away from him made seiichiro so nervous that it meddled with his ability that makes him an ace. he started playing rugby because of natsusa, and when natsusa had to quit because of the accident, he kept playing for natsusa. even though it made him nervous. what do i do with this information.

I really love reading your writings! Thanks for this blog of yours. So, I have read some people wrote their favorite things (characters, ships, media, etc) and most of them just list those things. But you really write what you love with details (I can feel your passion), and I love it so much! Sorry for my drabble...

Regarding P.s 1. You're right that I don't have a post about favourite media. There will be some overlap but there also may be other things here. My pinned post is fandoms/media I'd write headcanons and drabbles/snippets for. But there's also media I like where I don't really touch fanfiction or engage with the fandom much because I just don't have much to add. I may discuss some of those here. Also, there may be some in my pinned post that aren't in this post because I may not have watched/read/etc much of the actual source material, but I have read fanfics and have some knowledge of source material, even if it's only a little, and see fanfic potential in ships /characters. I do plan to watch/read/etc. more of those shows but that is a kind of disclaimer, i guess.

So let's get into it. My favourite media in no particular order, other than order I think of them. Warning in advance for spoilers for all media mentioned here, probably.

Bungou Stray Dogs.

No surprise really. Something from this show has been in all my lists so far. I'll be honest, I first saw this on Tumblr with no clue what it was, and I did recognise some of the names as real authors but had no knowledge of what Bungou Stray Dogs is, which was not helped when I looked up some of the characters, and saw photos of the real life authors. So I started watching it, naturally and, my God I love it. From episode 1 I was hooked, there was no going back. I think I watched the first 3 or 4 seasons in like 2 days or something but that could be mixed memories. Then I watched season 5 as it was coming out. Everything about it. I love the characters. Even the characters like Mori are interesting. Even Fukuchi, who I personally had a great time laughing at. They were all so entertaining. I've spoken about Dazai and Ranpo before so I won't reiterate here but everything I said about them stands. Akutagawa. Never before have I understood so well how someone can love a character but also want to put them through hell in fanfics. However, if I ever wrote and Akutagawa centric fic, it would not be a light, fluffy fic, I fear. It would be dark and I don't know if he'd even get a happy ending. He deserves it, a happy ending, but I'm not sure I'd give him it. Like, i could have him learn that how Dazai treated him was wrong, start to heal, grow as a person, date Atsushi. But I'd rather have him be even more obsessed with Dazai to an even unhealthier degree. I'm talking full yandere, if I can't have his attention and acknowledgment, no one can and Dazai, the manipulative bastard that he is, using this against him and against his enemies. Like, I love Akutagawa, and I do think he deserves good things, but in my head all i can give are dark fics.

Aside from that, we have Kunikida, Yosano, Tanizaki Junichiro. Like, I'm sorry, we all really saw him nearly succeed in assassinating the Port Mafia boss and I've never seen anyone discuss it. "But incest" And what if I told you that the incest actually made him a more interesting character because he's fairly boring until Naomi's threatened and then he's a full blown badass. What then? Honestly, I'll say it, Junichiro needs more love and appreciation. He's actually so cool, and no amount of "But what about the incest?" is going to change that. Yosano - Her backstory, her past with Mori. Her thinking she was helping at first, only to slowly realise she was only prolonging their suffering. Sure, she can heal their physical injuries, but they still experienced those things and sooner or later all those very traumatic near deaths, begin to have an effect. I'm so glad she managed to get away from Mori. In my head Yosano, Ranpo and Dazai are besties actually, and when Yosano finds out Dazai used to be in the mafia, and used to work as Mori's right hand man, they spend a lot of time bitching about him but also, Yosano is so concerned and it all just serves to make Dazai hate Mori more because, not only did he cause Oda's death, he also hurt Yosano. (I headcanon that Yosano and Ranpo are older sibling figures to Dazai and he's secretly very protective of him. I know I've seen some fics where Dazai likes the Armed Detective Agency less than the Port Mafia. I don't personally think that's true. I think he cares about people from both, he just shows that care in different ways. Are there people he cares about in the mafia? Definitely. That's probably why he didn't just destroy it before his 2 years off (that and sensei but I digress). But the Port Mafia is huge and, i daresay, there's more people in the Mafia that he's pretty indifferent towards, doesn't dislike them by any means but doesn't care about them in any way either. Either that, or he actually cares about no one and everything is all manipulation and mind games and setting up his pawns. Depends on my mood really. Kunikida, I love Kunikida. Kyouka. Chuuya. So many great characters

Also low-key love that most characters straight up refuse to die, no one dies, no one stays dead, except Oda. Is it sad? Yes. Do I also find it funny in a very dark comedy type way? Yes, yes I do

2. Haikyuu

Enough about Bungou Stray Dogs. Let's discuss Haikyuu. So, before I watched Haikyuu, I again saw a lot of discussion on Tumblr, saw some YouTube Haikyuu text videos, and then saw some character compilations. And then I watched the first 3 seasons. I love it. My favourite characters are Kageyama, Tendou, Kenma, Bokuto, Kuroo, and Akaashi. I do feel like they are subject to being reduced to one thing. Like, take Kageyama for example. I've seen him reduced to a guy who shouts at everyone all the time, is really mean to everyone all the time on purpose and who is just obsessed with milk and volleyball. Now, there are elements of truth to this but by focussing on only these things, you kinda do him a disservice. He's not malicious, he's not trying to hurt people. He's a socially awkward guy, who sucks at emotions and speaking. But he can be so respectful. The whole issue with Oikawa comes from the fact Kageyama is both oblivious and admires Oikawa so much. He looks up to him. He looks up to most setters, it seems like. He tries to take Atsumu's advice, tries to ask Kenma's advice, accepts Suga's advice. This happens with other characters too. If I see Asahi is Jesus jokes again, it will be far too soon. Like Asahi is a lot of things. He's sensitive, scared of a lot of things, fairly insecure and hard on himself. He's literally called glass hearted in i think the English dub. He's basically the gentle giant of Haikyuu. Also my problem with a lot of this is it's just the same joke about a million times. Someone says something sexual? Asahi talks about bringing holy water and taking them to church. Kageyama and Tsukishima are arguing? Daichi yells at them using full names because he's Daichi and Deadchi and that's it. Guys, Daichi teases and makes fun of Asahi a fair amount. Yes, he does try to get the team to get along, but he doesn't really yell. Actually it's more scary calm than anything. He's the captain and he treats them to meatbuns and I think he is canonically an older sibling. But I wouldn't say he's the dad friend. Also, he's very competitive, especially with Kuroo and I need more fics where Daichi is talked into doing dumb, teenager shit by Kuroo as part of a competition. Some of it doesn't even make sense. Please look at Kuroo and tell me, what part of him screams fuckboy? He's not. Kuroo is actually a massive nerd and a loser, and I mean that lovingly. He would never.

Also I know this seems more like I'm complaining about these things than saying why I like the show. But these things annoy me because I like Haikyuu so much. So seeing great characters be reduced to one thing is not my favourite thing. But I do love this anime and I do think this fandom can be great. There are so many ships, so many rare pairs, so many poly ships. The volleyball scenes themselves, I can't comment on accuracy. I played volleyball like once in PE and had no clue what I was doing and no interest, but accuracy is unimportant because the volleyball scenes are so good. One of the reasons I love sports animes is because I end up watching them really quick because I have to finish watching the game it's up to. There's also some great fics. I personally like Oikawa/Iwaizumi/Kageyama soulmate AU but there are so many great fics. I love seeing the dynamics between the characters, Akaashi's sass and teasing Bokuto, Tanaka and Nishinoya, Nishinoya and Asahi, the Karasuno first years, the Kitagawa Daiichi squad, Nekoma and Karasuno, Karasuno and Date Tech. Like, ugh, love them. Also special shoutout to my girl Yachi for being an anxious being and agreeing to join this club because a pretty girl asked her, and she wasn't really paying attention to what was being said because she was overthinking, so she said yes and hoped that was the right answer. And then she gave it her all. We stan Yachi here.

3. Kuroko no Basuke/Kuroko's basketball

Another sports anime. Kuroko no Basuke. What to say about this anime? First of all, I've spoken before about how funny this anime can be, even when it's not necessarily trying to be. They all think they're so badass with their "no one can beat me but me", and "I am absolute" or whatever Akashi says. Kagami, especially, falls victim to this thinking he's badass. They all give me so much second hand embarrassment. I love them so much. I love tortured 'prodigies.' (Low-key hate the word prodigies but I get it whatever). I love the basketball scenes and their special effects and superpowers. The zone stuff was all really cool. Momoi, okay, I once made a post about the Generation of Miracles and Kagami, talking about how much I loved them, and forgot to add Momoi. When I realised, I immediately either edited the post or (more likely) made a new one specifically about Momoi. Because Momoi deserves that respect. Like, the first match with Aomine and his team (I forget names, sue me), girlie had me so stressed with

Kuroko and Kagami's team: *Does literally anything*

Momoi: I know. I was expecting this *implemments game plan to counter*

Like, she's so easy to underestimate, because when we first see her, she does seem a little bit ditzy, but she is so smart. The person that underestimate Momoi is a damn fool. Also, in similar vein, I love Riko. Just two badass female managers, with very different personalities. They're great. And Kuroko- thank the gods for our phantom player. Kuroko is the one Generation of Miracles + Kagami who doesn't give me second hand embarrassment. He's just trying to get his old friends back. He just wants basketball to be fun again. He wants to win, to beat them. Like, I love Kuroko. He's great. All of them are. Not much more to say. I just really love this show

4. Sk8 the Infinity

Again, no big surprise. I love the little found family we have here. I think the animation style is beautiful. I think the skate scenes are really cool. Miya and Reki's friendship/sibling-like relationship is everything. Reki refusing to let this kid be lonely anymore, his own insecurities and doubts getting in the way, making him inadvertantly ditch Miya. Actually, though, Reki ditching the group because he thinks he's holding them back. Reki, who was Miya's first friend in years, because most of the people Miya knew, were jealous, felt threatened or just never spoke to him for whatever reason. And the whole Cherry, Joe and Adam situation. Former friends, skated together, started S, fell out over Adam's treatment of other racers. I do kinda headcanon Cherry and Adam as exes, but even without that, it's a sad thing to consider. Especially because Adam nearly kills Cherry by Hitting him in the face with a skateboard. (My toxic trait is that I'm a complete hypocrite who will accept anything my favourite characters do, but the second someone I don't like as much does the same to my favourite characters, I can never forgive them.) But also Cherry and Joe are married, it's true, they told me themselves. I don't exactly see them as father figures for Langa or Reki, maybe Miya but even then, not sure. There is a scene where Joe is flirting with girls and Miya pretends to be his and Kaoru's kid, but that's more Miya being a little shit. Also, the way Joe looks at Cherry when Miya first points at him, before he realises it's Cherry (or, maybe, remembers he's not supposed to be attracted to Cherry, since they're in the closet), he so wants him.

Anyway anime is great. Langa is great. Him loving things more for the people he gets to spend time with and the sports not feeling the same when that person isn't there. Like, he got into snowboarding because of his dad, they were seemingly very close, and then his dad dies, and his heart was no longer in it. Reki introduces him to skating and they skate together, he falls in love with it, it brings him closer to Reki, Reki stops going to S, Langa's heart is no longer in it. Like, I love Langa actually. He's mostly just a guy but he loves so deeply that it physically hurts him when the subject of his love is no longer there and just, i love him. Also his mum who's just trying her best.

5. Assassination Classroom

Ah, my old beloved. Korosensei broke my heart in a way no previous show or movie had managed, and in a way I'll never forget. The episode where they finally kill Korosensei just ends with them all sobbing and, honestly, that's fair. They so didn't want to kill him, and I didn't want them to, either. But they had to. Attempts to make it so he could live failed. And in the end, everyone just saw him as a monster. But those kids, they loved Korosensei and I did too. I may have to watch it again, because there are things I can't remember if they explained or not, but it was so good. Nagisa, my favourite boy who's always confused for a girl. His mom is horrific and, in another world, where the experiments on Korosensei don't have a chance of blowing up the Earth, Korosensei adopts Nagisa. I've spoken about Karma and Asano before. I love Rio. Honestly, all the students of E class. It's just a great anime.

6. Number24

Never played rugby a day in my life. I don't need to to love this anime. Natsusa getting hurt in a motorcycle, Ibuki's motorbike, and not being able to play anymore. Ibukiu feeling guilty and quitting. Ibuki and Ethan, in the English dub they cat like a married couple, and call each other pet names and Ethan calls Ibuki his dream woman. The polycule honestly. seiichirou and Natsusa's friendship is evereything. The art style is very pretty and so is Natsusa. Natsusa is also a menace and short and everyone wants him and loves grabbing his waist, picking him up, touching him. Natsusa just loves rugby. Also him using knuckle dusters on Ibuki. Again shoutout to the English dub for Natsusa confirming he's trying to seduce Ibuki back onto the team. It works. Natsusa flirts violently apparently. Seiichirou's chill litlle friend group. The big shoes to fill but, oops, turns out everyone was happier when Yasunari was playing his own way rather than trying to play Natsusa's way. The way they all care for Natsusa. He is positively spoiled and love and adored and he knows it. He's so manipulative for all that reasons. What a menace. What a little shit. He alone is worth watching it for but there are plenty of great characters and dynamics. Not so much rugby for a rugby anime. It's more about the relationships between the team members since Natsusa is their manager. Also, Seiichirou being thrown off his game by Natsusa not smiling, and just wanting to see him smile and be happy, is so cute, so wonderful and just a little bit gay. Which pretty much sums up the anime in general. Cute, wonderful and just a little bit gay.

7. Gossip Girl

What's this? It's not anime? A live action TV show? You got it. Listen, Teen Wattpad reader me loved this show and shipped Chuck and Blair so hard. Were they toxic? Oh yeah, 100%. Two already toxic people dating each other? That can only end badly. And yet, i needed them to be endgame all the same, because they were so fascinating. Blair is my favourite character in this show. I love her. She has some iconic moments, she is an icon. I also loved Chuck. Like, he's definitely not a good guy but, my God, this show would be so much less interesting without them. Also the Van der Woodsen family drama gave me life. The grandma knowing that Ivy is a fake but leaving the money to her, Ivy specifically anyway. What a queen. She died as she lived, causing drama even from beyond the grave. Also gives me Taylor Swift vibes of I have this dream my daughter in-law kills me for the money She thinks I left them in the will The family gathers 'round and reads it and then someone screams out "She's laughing up at us from hell"

Is this not her? Like, seriously, icon. Love her, she's so messy. I think that's what it is, I love the messy characters. Like Georgina, she exists purely to cause chaos and drama and we love that for her. And then there's the ending. And you know what?Sure, Dan can be gossip Girl. I do think if it was going to be one of the Humphreys, Jenny makes more sense. I did actually text my friend that Nate could have been an interesting answer for who Gossip Girl is. Like in a 'you thought he was the nice one but he's actually just as manipulative and back stabbing as his friends.' He's friends with them for a reason. What's that thing about if there are 10 people at a table or in a friend group, and 9 of them are racist, then there are 10 racists in the friend group because there's the one who "isn't racist" but like enables it. Well, all Nate's friends are manipulative backstabbing, and he's not? At least not as much. He's the "nice one". I know this means he would've had to expose his own cheating on Blair with Serena, but he told her that anyway, and it's not like he was in love with Blaire at that point. This gives him an easy out if he expects Blair to break up with him. He doesn't have to worry about disappointing his family as much. I do think, it would have to be Jenny, Nate, Dan, someone relatively close to and with access to Serena, Blaire, Chuck, Dan and Nate. I do think Nate could have been interesting but, no matter what they did, they weren't gonna satisfy everyone with the answer.

8. Trash of The Count's Family

A Korean web novel, translated into English. Something is up with the English translation, at least the Trash of the Count's family one, I don't know the details, and I don't particularly care really. Trash of the Count's family is what it was introduced to me as, so that's what I call it. But, moving away from that, I've talked about Kim Rok Soo Cale Henituse before in asks. He was transported into a fantasy world, remembers everything from the first 5 volumes of the novel, vows to live a peaceful life, just make money and move somewhere quiet and avoid the war. He does make money, he does move to a village with his people, I wouldn't say his life is pafrticularly peaceful and he does not, in fact, avoide the many wars across the two continents. Quite the opposite. He rescues children, Beast People, (different kinds, Cats, Wolves, etc), saves people who would've otherwise died, including a couple dragons. He befriends many different races and powerful people, including kingdom leaders and the cfrown prince of the kingdom he lives in. He's the oldest son of the Count (as you may guess from the title) but has zero interest in becoming the Count. He aims to get rid of the main character and party members, and not only fails, but often gains more allies that the characters did in the novel. The found family is strong in this one. It is long. The first part is over 700 chapters long, I think the second part has managed to get that number to 1000+ and it's still being written to my knowledge. I think there is a manga version but I haven't read that, so don't know how much of it is there or where and how to find it. Just, found family, hurt and comfort, fantasy, wars. Really good worldbuilding. Really good use of transmigration. Just a wonderful fic.

9. Hazbin Hotel

Had to include this. Love Alastor. Love Angel Dust. Love Husk. Love Lucifer and Charlie and Vaggie. Honestly, all the characters (even the ones I don't necessarily like) are interesting. The fact the angels don't even really know what gets someone in heaven and hell. The complete ignoring of the fact that, if angels can waltz in and out of hell, seemingly whenever they like. Like they go once or twice a year, but I don't think there's anything stopping them going more if they want, then some demons may in fact be able to wander in and out of Hell. Like, Sir Pentious. He was in Hell, he's in heaven now, and I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to go in and out of both except "it's not allowed", which is not the same as can't be done. Really hope Emily has a bigger role in season 2. Curious what the deal between Lillith and Adam was. Curious about who made a deal with Alastor, what the deal was and if he'll be able to break the deal. Also I'm definitely on Team 'Vox tried to either sleep with or date Alastor, but Alastor rejected him and he took it badly so that's why they're no longer friends'. It makes sense. Hope Angel manages to somehow escape the deal with Velantino. Honestly hope everyone manages to find a way to escape their deals. I love Alstor as the show's final villain theory, but I think from a comedy standpoint, the angels going 'Fine, so some sinners can be redeemed but others can't and are powerful so why don't we exterminate them for you, which should make redemption for those that want it easier.' This is very begrudging and desperate, they just don't want to have to stop killing demons completely. Charlie refuses, she believes all sinners can be redeemed actually, so the angels challenge Charlie, they'll pick a demon and Charlie has to get them redeemed to prove redemption can work for anyone. Charlie agrees. The angels pick Alastor. Even better if Alastor has already managed to break his deal and turned against them. Like, I just think that would be fun. Not necessarily what I think will happen. But it would be fun. Also all this could lead to learning more about Alastor as he's still fairly mysterious.

10. Link Click

it could be recency bias but I don't think so. This is a great donghua, never watched any of them before, this was my first one. I didn't know what to expect, had never heard anything about it, but my God this was great. It punched me in the gut about 50 different times, but was never so sad that I felt there was no point watching because there's this underlying current of hope, but also inevitability. Like Dodo was always going to be fine because Cheng Xiaoshi was always going to go back to the past. He already has. Makes me nervous about Cheng Xiaoshi's death that Lu Guang saw and is trying to prevent. Some badass women in this show. Some smart women. Qiao Ling would, in fact, survive a horror movie, because when she hears about a killer on the loose, she immediately learns martial arts just in case. Also, why does everyone lie to Cheng Xiaoshi? Why do they all keep important things that he deserves to know from him? Also there's a basketball episode, which is really good and also makes me wanna see the Kuroko no Basuke crossover. But anyway, this show is really good at introducing a character and then doing something like this: "You see this character? *gestures vaguely* yeah, this is a new character. Here's their life, their backstory, very tragic. You feel sorry for them, don't you? Of course you do. They seem like a nice person in an unfortunate situation, right? Yeah, this is a good, sympathetic character who tries to be a good person and do the right thing. You seem to like this character. Well, it seems their life is gonna be very happy. *Link Click smiles politely at you as they take out a knife and stab said character.* Oh yeah, by the way, they're dead now." And repeat that but, here's the kicker, in between they have some characters get their happy ending. So it's hard to guess, especially in season 1, if they're gonna die and this actually happens in season 2 as well. But just like Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang, we can never give up hope that this character will make it out alive somehow. Except the Li siblings' mom. She was never making it out alive, unfortunately. It's jsut so good. Please, if you haven't watched Link Click, at least consider watching it.

Tricks and Treats and Lots of Popcorn Balls to Eat (#24)

Halloween Dusk, 6:58 PM, Anderson Home, Dining Room

You’d think your wife loved Trick or Treating more than your kids, the way she’d strategically planned out the route around the neighborhood. You were sitting at the dining table, applying black whiskers to Isaac's face. He was going as a Black Kitty Cat — with an extremely cute and fancy bow tie collar. Abby was balancing your other two — Genevieve was a baby Chick, her favorite animal, and she was happily sitting in Abby’s arms, all ready to go. Elijah was having a bit of an issue with one of his many legs attached to his torso. He was going as a spider that is also a human. Not to be confused with Spider-Man. Something you and Abby had to clarify with Elijah on multiple occasions. You were dressed like a witch that matched Isaac and Elijah’s costumes, while Abby was dressed like a Farmer to match Genny’s.

“There, all done!” You capped the eyeliner pencil, letting Isaac step back and look at himself in the mirror. “Oooh I love it, Mama. Thank you.”

“You are so welcome. Now go get your puffer vest and your bucket, okay?”

It was going to get pretty cold once the sun set, so each of the kids had a puffer vest or shawl that matched their costume.

Once all eight of Elijah’s arms were secured, the group of you started out the door and out onto the streets where kids and families were already milling about. The neighborhood you guys live in is close to the elementary school, thus the neighborhood became the best place for a little kid to trick or treat within the past 20 years or so. Now it’s a perfect set up with the best candy, houses hosting child-friendly games, and even a few of the older folks host a cake walk at the soccer field park. To give the parents and adults some Halloween magic, one older woman makes halloween themed baked goods and fresh coffee and hot cider. Abby was an absolute fiend for her Popcorn Balls, buying one for you and three for her. You both get Butterscotch and Abby gets the rainbow marshmallow one — for gay reasons — and a chocolate drizzled one she treats like it’s a fancy dessert.

The night takes a turn an hour into the walk. By now the kids have a good amount of candy. Elijah has a bit more because some of the houses were for “Big Kids” and Isaac wasn’t ready yet. Genevieve was too busy trying to waddle away from you to care about the candy. You were in the middle of chasing her down someone’s drive away when you heard Isaac start to cry, followed by noises of anger from someone you didn’t expect — Elijah.

You turn the corner onto the sidewalk to see Abby crouched down in front of Isaac who was crying. You run over to them and scan his sad face for any reason for the crying, but see nothing obviously wrong. Then your eyes and ears are both on Elijah, dressed as a spider-human, who is scolding a teenage zombie that was covered in life-like guts. Even though he’s smaller than the teen, the older boy’s face looks embarrassed.

After checking in with Abby, who is successfully calming down Isaac, you walk towards Elijah, Genny still in your arms.

“Elijah?”

He stops talking and turns to you. His angry expression changes to relief, tears of frustration bubbling in his eyes. “Mama! He scared Isaac! He jumped out at us and scared Isaac! He has friends with him too!” You reach out for Elijah, who turns to glare at the boy before running into your body.

You lock eyes with the teenager and raise an eyebrow. He now looks more scared and you don’t know if it’s because of you or whatever Elijah had been saying to him. Or it could be Abby, who is now standing upright and glaring at the boy, just a few feet behind you.

“Is this true?”

“Ye-yes. I-I’m so sorry. I swear I didn’t mean to make the kid cry. I just wanted to spook them, ya know, because it’s Halloween. I’m so sorry.” He seems genuine enough and Isaac doesn’t seem as scared anymore. You still think that Elijah and Abby could stand to simmer down more.

“I understand it’s Halloween, but you are in a neighborhood filled with elementary school kids. Have some sense next time.” You look around and only see older kids walking with their parents. This neighborhood was practically little-kid-only on Halloween.

The teen nods rapidly. “Yeah. I didn’t wanna come but my friend made a bet.”

“Where are your friends now?”

“Probably five blocks over.”

“Good friends you got there.” You give him a wry smile. “Okay, here’s what’s gonna happen. I will accept your apology on behalf of my kid. And I will let you go. However, no more scaring kids dressed like farm animals, okay? Sounds good?”

“Yea-yes.”

“Okay now you better go because I can only hold my wife back for so long,” you nod your head back to Abby who is holding Kitty Cat Isaac in her arms but she somehow looks like a Wolf Soldier with that expression on her face.

The teen locks eyes with Abby and his face drains of color. You have to bite the inside of your cheek to not smirk.

“Yes. Thank you. So sorry!” He says the last part to Isaac and Elijah before running away down the sidewalk. You walk back to Abby and Isaac. You stop in front of her and free your hand holding onto Elijah to smooth Abby’s furrowed brow.

“Easy there, mama bear,” you joke. Her brow softens.

“More like you’re mama bear; standing up for our cubs,” she says and boops your nose. You automatically scrunch it, making Abby laugh.

You blush under her loving eyes. “To be honest, if anyone is Mama Bear it would be Elijah right now,” you look down to Elijah. “I am very proud of you, Eli. You are very brave to stand up for your brother. I’m sure he appreciates it.”

At the mention of himself, Isaac looks down at Elijah. “Thank you, Eli. Momma, can I go down?” Abby lets him down. Once on the ground, Isaac wraps his arms around Elijah in a tight hug.

“Do you guys want to continue?” Abby asks after a moment.

They break away and Elijah grabs one of Isaac’s hands to hold.

“Yes, I am good now!” Isaac confirms. His hand squeezes Elijah’s in excitement. His tears are gone and a smile has replaced them.

You and Abby share a smile between yourselves.

“Okay,” you say. You boost Genevieve higher on your hip. She’d been supporting a concerned frown for her brothers, but fortunately never felt the need to wiggle out of your arms and run off like she did before. “Let’s go get candy!”

Halloween Night, 10:13 PM, Anderson House, Living Room

“Ugh,” Abby groans. “I love Popcorn Balls!”

She takes another large bite out of the popcorn ball, looking like a less dignified Snow White eating the poison apple. Laughter bubbles out of you as you watch her try to catch the loose pieces her mouth misses.

It’s your laughter that must remind Abby that she’s not alone. She turns her head to you and raises an eyebrow.

“What’s so funny?” She asks.

You don’t answer her at first, leaning forward to pick off a piece of Popcorn Ball that was sticking to her chin. She had this look on her face that could rival Isaac’s goofy, innocent expressions. Which often features a joyful grin that they just happen to share.

Once her face is clean of a few more pieces, you answer her. “Nothing. You’re just so cute.”

Her confusion makes you laugh again. “I’m cutely funny, not funnily cute and that was your funnily cute laugh. And you just did it again.” Her lips quirk upwards. You know she’s teasing you.

Rolling your eyes, “I am not starting this again with you.” You make a move to get up off the couch and Abby stops you from moving. Now she’s really laughing. Her fingers dig into your sides, tickling you.

“Baby, I’m sorry. I was messing. C’mon, here, where's your Popcorn Ball?” She looks around the couch. You both had settled down on the couch after putting the kids to bed. All three of the kids’ candy buckets are sitting in front of you on the coffee table. It was a yearly ritual that, after you tuck the kids into bed, you and Abby stay up and sort through all the candy.

It’s half because you have picky children and it’s better to give Elijah the Three Musketeers now, than wait for him and his brother to painstakingly trade them. And Isaac really only eats things with peanut butter and chocolate combined. Since Genny doesn’t get candy because she’s 2, when they get non candy treats like color changing pencils that change with heat, or trinkets you can show her that light up or any cute figurines, you put them in her bucket.

Once you guys pick through all the candy, you trade between yourselves the leftovers that the kids don’t like.

“Ya know?” you muse aloud while looking for a piece of chocolate in the leftover pile. “We have some brave kids.”

Abby’s knee nudges yours. “Yeah, we do.”

You find the chocolate bar and tear it open. You break the bar in half and give Abby the other piece, without a second thought.

She says thanks and pops her half in her mouth like a baby bird getting fed. You choke on your piece of chocolate, trying not to die from chocolate while simultaneously laughing at Abby’s face.

The noise makes Abby turn towards you, eyes wide.

You manage to swallow the chocolate without much damage. You reach for your cup to wash down the remnants.

“You okay?”

“Yeah,” you start laughing again. “Why did you eat the chocolate like that?”

“What?” Abby blinks at you. Then a look of realization grows on her face. “Were you laughing at me and that made you choke?” Abby huffs and rolls her eyes in faux irritation.

You give her a pout. “I’m sorry, my love. You are just so cutely funny. I can’t help it.” You move until you’re able to lean against Abby and curl up against her side. She pointedly looks away, but her lips quirk upwards. And she still wraps her arm around you, like it’s second nature.

Still seeing that she’s going to make you work for it, you cup the side of her face and pull her cheek to your lips. You loudly kiss all over her cheek, exaggerating the smooching noises until Abby starts laughing at the sensation.

“Okay, I forgive you,” She moves her cheek away from you. You watch as her hand come up to cup your own cheek and she pulls your face towards her to kiss you soundly on the mouth. You fight to keep your lips from smiling, kissing Abby back with just as much love.

After a moment or two, you break away. You press a few light kisses to Abby’s face, pointedly on freckles that dust her cheekbone like a constellation.

“Mmm,” Abby preens under your affection the same way she’s done for years that you’ll never get tired of.

“Mm, I love you,” you say against her skin, between kisses.

“I love you too.” Abby tightens her grip on you.

“Mm. I love you more, my cutely funny wife,” you joke.

Abby nods her head stoically. “That’s fucking right.”

“Happy Halloween, baby.”

“Happy Halloween.”

Year of the Bat - Number 24

Welcome to Year of the Bat! In honor of Kevin Conroy, Arleen Sorkin, and Richard Moll, I’m counting down my Top 31 Favorite Episodes of “Batman: The Animated Series” throughout this January. TODAY’S EPISODE QUOTE: “As Napoleon told me, ‘A strong will can fuel a frail physique.’” Number 24 is…The Demon’s Quest.

This is the first of a few entries on the countdown that’s actually a two-part story. The episode marks the official start for one of Batman’s greatest villains, Ra’s Al Ghul. The character had ACTUALLY debuted as part of a twist ending to another episode, “Off Balance,” but it was with “The Demon’s Quest” that Ra’s became a fully-fledged member of the Dark Knight’s Rogues Gallery in the series. This story also happens to be the first on the list actually based on a pre-existing comic, namely the seminal story “Daughter of the Demon,” created by Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams. The two-part story begins with Ra’s Al Ghul appearing in the Batcave, officially introducing himself to Batman and making it clear he knows Bruce’s secret identity. However, Ra’s isn’t there to fight the Caped Crusader. Instead, he wishes to join forces with him: it’s revealed that Robin has been kidnapped, and – coincidentally – it was by the same people who have recently kidnapped the Head of the Demon’s own daughter, the lovely Talia Al Ghul (whom Batman also previously met and became fascinated by in “Off Balance”). I don’t think I’m spoiling much by saying that it’s later revealed Ra’s is the one responsible for the kidnapping, and all this was a ploy to try and win Batman over to his side. However, Batman isn’t taken in by all this, and when he learns more about Ra’s and the Society of Shadows (a.k.a. The League of Assassins), he quickly turns from working with Al Ghul to trying to find a way to stop his mad plans of destruction. Ra’s was already pretty well-known in comics at the time, but for various reasons, hadn’t really reached mainstream popularity yet. While it would be a lie to say the DCAU catapulted him to stardom, his appearances in B:TAS and later spin-offs DID help to make him more familiar to non-comic readers around the world. Chances are that Ra’s wouldn’t be the villain he is now if this show hadn’t come about. (Well…this show and “Batman Begins,” but…details, details.) The character was played by the late, great David Warner, and is perhaps the definitive take on Ra’s beyond comics proper. (Not necessarily the best or my favorite, mind you, but certainly the one closest to the original source, in a lot of ways.) This two-parter established the villain and the kinds of stories he’d be most prominently featured in from this part on. The episode feels sort of like a cross between Indiana Jones, with a hint of pulp fiction like The Shadow or The Phantom thrown in, crossed with…well…Batman. It’s a globetrotting adventure story that just so happens to involve superheroics in the mix, so to speak. It’s definitely one of the most epic stories in scale the show ever produced. I honestly feel pretty bad for leaving this one so low in the ranks. There’s really not much I can say as to why it isn’t higher up; I guess, end of the day, I just like other episodes more. Make no mistake though, this is a great story to look at: if you’re a fan of Ra’s Al Ghul, and if you’re only going to watch one episode of the character from this show, make this two-parter your pick of the bunch. You won’t regret it.
