After some questions about my ‘true’ form and whether or not I have a thousand eyes and a veritable farmyard of creatures emerging from my collar, I have decided to show you this record of an encounter between myself and a certain writer at the latter end of the Elizabethan period. I remember the event slightly differently, but I suppose one has to make room for artistic licence.
I’m assured that if you click ‘keep reading’, the full transcript will appear.
To assist you, I’ve added a glossary at the end.
And no, Crowley, this still doesn’t count as having wheels.
“This is an true accounting of mine own eyes, set down by mine hand this tenth night of September, in the yeare of Our Lord sixteen hundred and one. They will say I am gone mad, for such visions belong to those who dwell in Beth’lem Monastery, but I swear on all that is precious to me, this se’nnight past I saw an Angel.
I was but newly set out from the towne, and some light yet remained to guide my path, when I looked to the east and saw of a sudden a second dawn. T’was no earthly fire; Aye, I warrant you, I am not bestraught! My father spoke, in Harry’s day, of the great conflagration of Edinburgh. He told me that Hell had claimed the sky, for all above was a fury dress’d in crimson and wretched with soot. But here was nothing of red.
I have seen it since in dreams and will, I ken enow, see it as I draw my final breath. Hasten the day.
It was akin to a man. I gleaned as much in those moments when I looked upon it, ere it saw me and my wits fled me. But also unlike a man, for where a man has but one pair of hands were there some severall, and where a man has flesh and bone was there flame. Such pale fire have I never seen but I should think it alchymy, and mine eyes were indeed ensorceled, for I saw colours without name, and things too marvellous and awful to relate. I will. I must. This labour’d span is raised to worthy work, knowing the glory that awaits. But oh, I am affraid. I pray my sins have not snatched the cup from my lips.
This fearful apparition stood upon the hill, and the white fire that was its crown was with the thin night clouds commingled. Its face — no. Of that no more, yet. I cannot. All about was compassed in armillary radiances which turned one within another, the forme entire and every hand with pearlie lustre enwheeled.
Below, the flames of Tuscalonian hue that formed a body for the Presence were so and so girded with armour: bright fragments, the whole twixt corslet and grand guard, matched with cushes; all of nacreous stuff and lapis-ensigil’d but for one place high ‘pon the rightmost thighpiece where the intricate device was marred and running gold in place of gore.
What can wound an Angel? I think on this and tremble as the very earth trembled where it stood, ague-shooke by a low’ring thunder.
I have held golden angels in my palm and have seen them in holy glass and in base iron gaulle, with doves’ wings upon their shoulders. Foh, we are God’s own fools. Its wings were the clouds pierced by stormlight, dark upon light upon dark, and where they moved was printed a world beyond my understanding, witnest through a furnace shimmer.
I saw a flock of stars draw close around it, and it seemed to dote upon them and cosset them as a hunter with his favourite hounds, and I would there have fainted all away an if I had not been fixed in terror. For they were not specks and embers laid distant upon the sky, a sailor’s comfort and guide, but each and each an inferno pluck’d from Heaven; baleful sentinels from which no secret could be hidden. Such fell lights would render trivial the earthly fires of Nebuchadnezzar.
Words are meat and drink to me, yet do I tell this so poorly I should be ‘shamed and nevermore lift a goose-pen. Still, ‘tis no matter for who shall read it? When all is said, I’ll put these lines away and think on them no more. In telling will I win myself a little peace.
Wheretofore had I been silent, so now instantly did I weep, and laugh, and cry out for God’s mercy, and it looked upon me. Od's-me, it turned its Phoebean eyes on me and I saw its face. Above the gleaming corselet had that most blessed igenieur placed a maske of fine, unblemish’d parchment, in th’ likeness of a gentle visage, before the sainted flame. Troth, a kindely lanthorne of such boundlesse compassion that I fell upon my knees and made to crawl into the fire, sooner to know its forgiuenesse. Then did it smile, as no painted visor could, and all my knotted thoughts were ravel’d out and I was at once a babe, a foole, unfolded and sanctuarized. Under this soft and clement regard I swounded, onely to wake in my lodgings, ‘tired, but not tyred, my travells lost beyond recover.”

Addendum:
I’ve been asked to provide a translation for the Latin community. My grasp of Elizabethan Spanish would, I fear, let me down, so this is couched in modern terms…

just had this thought of lily as a lit student volunteering at her local library and barty as this delinquent being assigned to do community service there. like she starts off with a bit of a ‘oh this poor criminal, i must save him’ mindset and then is constantly frustrated by barty as it’s clear that he just. doesn’t want to be saved. and he’ll deliberately mess up the book organisation systems and try to scam people by fining them when their books are nowhere near overdue so he can keep the money for himself. and lily is running around after him, huffing as she loudly puts the books back in their proper places, whacking him round the back of the head when she catches him trying to scam some old man. she’s screaming at him in the back room, leaning over him as he sits back unbothered on one of the chairs, shoving her finger in his face but he just grins and tries to bite it so she’s whacking him again and storming out bc he’s just SO infuriating. but then somehow he’s also going in depth with her about the motivations of iago in othello and whether the tragedy can be blamed entirely on him or if society itself plays a part in the plot’s development or animatedly discussing keats’ ode to a nightingale and the concept of negative capability and how it relates to the body. and she’s just completely fascinated by him, she wants to analyse him like one of the texts from her classes, she thinks she could write essay upon essay about his view of the world and the way his brain works and the tattoo she can always see just poking out of the top of his collar. and now she’s missing deadlines bc she wants to spend time w him, and laughing as he knocks over an entire bookshelf while trying to tell her about the book he’s just read, and really he doesn’t want to be saved but maybe he’s saving her instead…

trying to finally do all the things I’ve always wanted to do to improve my life <3 downloaded some cute apps to help me and gonna try and post a bit about my progress to hold myself accountable or whatever <3
So!! My big goals are:
Continue improving my Spanish!!
1) Going on a walk once a day! Or a 30 minute workout of some kind! (5 miles a day hopefully! Kind of a big goal but I think it would be good for me :-])
2) Learn Tagalog! (I think it would be cool to learn another language that wasn’t one of people’s “go to’s” especially since I grew up with Filipino friends and now live in an area with a large Filipino community!)
3) Push myself to do more uncomfortable social things that I know would actually be fun! (I already signed up for a local dnd group event and have been meeting up w my latinroots dance friends a bit more :-] hoping to check out some other stuff like badminton, the local lgbt choir group, and the nonbinary hangout group at the lgbt center :-] wish me luck!!)

I just saw the post on the alt codes you memorized and got so excited bc you are the first other person I heard of who also memorized alt codes! For me, it’s bc I started learning Old Babylonian and there is no keyboard with all the diacritics I needed to transcribe them, so I decided it would be the easiest to make myself an additional vocabulary deck to learn the alt codes (that I needed to create my Babylonian vocabulary deck). How have you memorized your alt codes?
omg that is awesome. i have so many questions for you. what are the babylonian alt codes??? or did you add them yourself? (can you add new alt codes? seems like you should be able to, since it's possible to add keyboard shortcuts, and alt codes are really just a type of keyboard shortcut.) i can see that cuneiform signs are in unicode but i can't find any alt code lists that include them. or are you transliterating babylonian into the latin alphabet with diacritics?
another question did you memorize codes for every single one because holy shit there's like hundreds of cuneiform signs according to wikipedia???? that's wild. i can see why you would need flash cards! me i only know probably fewer than 20 total and i just learned them over the course of several years as they became necessary. it's very hard to write a french sentence without é è à and ç, so i'm sure i learned those first, plus ù which is in one very common word that means something totally different if you leave off the accent (où/ou), then probably i had to learn ê â ô and î. but actually you can get pretty far avoiding the other accented letters in french, so i might have been in college before i learned the rest of them lol. somewhere in there i learned the spanish accented letters, but those are mostly right next to each other and there aren't very many of them, so that was easy. i never learned the capitalized accented letters because it's acceptable in french to leave accents off in uppercase (except the cédille, which i know is somewhere in the 120s so i can get there eventually if necessary). initially i look up the number but then over time it gets encoded into muscle memory as i keep using the letter organically in sentences.
most importantly though: how is the old babylonian is it fun it sounds fun
#let's see i'm going to actually count now#é è à ç ù: 5 extremely necessary french accented letters can't leave home without 'em#ê â ô î: 4 french accented letters that are very handy to have around#û ï: not that important for a beginner. ë: kind of optional?? also not common or important for a beginner. for a total of 3#œ: completely optional and kind of just showing off. didn't learn that until a year or two ago. that's 1 additional#ü: technically not optional but i thought it was dumb so i never learned it???? lol. i had to look up the code just now#because it is not in the 150s with the rest of the u's. it's alt+129...idk why#it is the second accented letter in the alt codes (after Ç and before é)#so not counting ü or Ç that's 13 french letters. then we have the spanish letters á í ó ú ñ Ñ. 6 of those#and the danish letters å æ ø which i'm not sure i should count because i always guess wrong initially and have to try nearby#numbers until i get it lol. but sure let's say 3 of those#for 22 total. which i learned over the course of like 20 years#asks#not anon#diacritics#typography#french#what i should do next is learn the guillemets «». ooh and ¿#maybe the degree sign º. that would come in handy from time to time#and i guess the accented capitals 😩#they're all right next to each other if you go up to the 0190s and 0200s. that's not that bad#thank youuuuu for coming to tell me this it is delightful information. memorizers of alt codes unite!!!#this is like when i found the one other person in the world using the same flip phone that i was using in the 2010s#when that kind of flip phone was extremely old and buggy. we would talk about the idiosyncrasies like which words always#got corrected to other very specific and incorrect words and what would happen if someone tried to send us a link#or a text with a character added to unicode after 2007 <3#we bonded over how our phones always turned 'boob' into 'bomb' and how unfortunate that was in our textual correspondence#with people who did not have that problem

one of my fav coworkers is actively job hunting after only about 2 months of working with us and its breaking my heart but unfortunately i entirely understand why she is, because not only does she just for some goddamn reason naturally attract male pests that want to romantically harass her while shes on the job no matter how many times she tells them shes married, rosa has unfortunately proven herself not immune to the 'woman of x race meets younger woman of same race in work sphere and gets possessed by a jealousy demon' phenomenon.

it's actually so so soo cool to me that miguel's suit is a hologram and performs like an LED screen on his body; i love that they added this detail bc it gives so much depth to his suit that would otherwise be lost like it makes the meso american inspired patterns on his suit such an enagmatic glow and makes his suit so cool to look at!!! just a million stars glowing on him !!!
Tumblr media
SEE !!! THE CIRCUITRY... ITS SO FUCKING COOL !!!
#i just think he's neat#little fuckin nerd miguel trying to make himself a cool looking suit after he literally expanded to twice his previous size lol#he has the pantone app open on his monitor#“lyla change the red from DF1F2D to B11313”#my personal hc is that he for sure added the mesoamerican influences much later on bc he had a spidey moment with a little latine kid#saved a kid downtown from those public eye goons and the kid looks up half scared/half in awe at his stature#the kid's guardian yells something in spanish while running towards them#so naturally#he squats down to be eye level with the kid and says something along the lines of “everything's gonna be alright kid” in spanish#and he swings away#but just out of his peripherals he sees the kid lose their mind#he picks up a faint gracias or other term of gratitude and lets a small smile escape his lips#and then he starts to notice just how many spider ppl have incorporated their heritage/nationality into their costume#and he's reminded of that kid#how excited they were to share something as binding as their mother tongue with thee spiderman#now all of a sudden he's spent the next 16 hours trying to incorporate traditional mesoamerican patterns into his costume's design#maybe it's lyla's idea to make them golden looking so they're endlessly shifting in a stunning contrast against the red#my miguelito#yeah#im totally normal abt him btw#idgaf actually#spidey#i can fix him#miguel o'hara#atsv miguel#miguel spiderverse#miguel spiderman#spiderman 2099#spiderman atsv#spider verse

Hmm this is an interesting situation with the translator mod. Cellbit and Forever have it so their English is being translated to Portuguese for their audiences but when they are speaking Portuguese it doesn’t translate for Bad because the mod thinks they are speaking English XD
I wonder how they can adjust the mod to accommodate for situations like this. Maybe make it a hot key to switch between the local languages easier?
That way the multilingual people can switch between the local languages as they are switching verbally so their audience and the other streamers can all understand what’s being said without having to go into the settings constantly
Cuz like I don’t mind when the other streamers have full conversations in Spanish or Portuguese while doing lore with English streamers I’m fine reading the subtitles… it’s just situations like this where the streamer’s priorities aren’t matching up (due to no one’s fault they r doing what is best for their audiences) that we are sitting here with Bad understanding zero of what is being said because the mod thinks they are speaking English when they are speaking Portuguese lol
