You may see news reports that Colombia backed down due to tariffs, the Felon of the United States bragging about how "respected" he's made America and how all his demands were met, and Regime-friendly news outlets repeating it.

What actually happened, so far as I've pieced together from various sources is this:

FOTUS flew a bunch of deported immigrants to Colombia in shitty conditions aboard military planes (a needlessly costly stunt designed to reinforce his strongman image and the narrative of immigrant civilians as an "invasion" requiring military force).

Colombia refused to let them land, saying they would only accept them if they were aboard "civilian planes, without treating them like criminals" (quoted in the BBC).

FOTUS had them dumped in Honduras instead, and put 25% tariffs on Colombia in retaliation, as well as visa sanctions and increased inspection of Colombians at the border (well actually he put them on Columbia, with a u, because he's a dipshit).

Colombia hit back with 50% tariffs and very sharp message from its leader defying FOTUS.

They then quickly negotiated a deal where Colombia would allow the flights of deported immigrants in, and FOTUS would lift the tariffs.

So, did FOTUS win? At first glance it might seem so, and that's certainly how he and a lot of the US and even international press seem to be playing it- Strong Leader's threat's succeeded and Colombia backed down before his Strong Leadership.

Except, reading between the lines, and from some commentary I've seen on social media, it appears Colombia may have gotten the concession of having them deported in more humane and dignified conditions- which is all that they wanted to begin with.

In which case, this is just the TikTok ban all over again- The Felon and his enablers created a crisis so he could pretend to resolve it to show what a Strong Leader he is.

Expect this sort of bullshit to be a daily occurrence going forward.

any tips on doctors who just try to push physical therapy on you?

i have chronic muscle pain (hips + knees) and have already done 4 months of pt for supposed pfps (turns out i don’t have it) and it did absolutely nothing to help with any of my pain (i did a lot of stuff for strengthening muscles around my hips). i told the doctor that exercise doesn’t help and that i’m in pain the whole time and they didn’t care

god i’m so sorry you’re dealing with that, myself & tons of others have been through this experience & i so wish i had better answers for you. unfortunately as far as i can tell you’re at a juncture where your decision is basically whether to become a “noncompliant patient” or not –

you can try doing what the doctor suggests & continue putting yourself in pain through physical therapy with the hope that eventually the doctor or physical therapist will be like okay this is doing fuck all let’s try something else

if you’re in a position where this is an option, you can go to a different doctor, but they might just do the same thing

you can keep going to this doctor without continuing pt, with the knowledge that they’ll probably label you noncompliant & will likely treat you more like shit

i wish so badly that there was a certain response that would make them respect you, it’s a shitshow & a crapshoot & you don’t deserve this. you shouldn’t have to put yourself in more pain to receive healthcare & i’m so sorry the system is so fucked. it is always okay to stop going to physical therapy if that’s the decision you want to make, i wish it didn’t carry so many potential punitive consequences from physicians who think their word is god.

the best resources i can suggest are around resisting medical gaslighting; community support + experiences + theory around both noncompliance & exercise intolerance have been very affirming for me wrt like, i’m not making this up. it can also be helpful to journal or whatever to document how you remember your symptoms being worse after exercise, pt, etc so that if later you’re doubting you were “actually” in worse pain you can read back over your experiences.

the mindset that’s also been helpful for me is that even if pt would help, it’s okay not to do it. i don’t owe anyone an able (or less disabled) body, & not exercising doesn’t mean i deserve medical neglect; no one deserves to be in pain even if they’ve “brought it on themselves.”

again i am so fucking sorry. your pain is real, in the vast majority of cases if pt was gonna help there would’ve at least been some sort of improvement in 4 months, & so much current medical science including around physical therapy is rooted in ableist misconceptions. you deserve further testing & pain relief no matter the cause of your pain (or whether that can even be determined). my heart goes out to you & i can’t always respond quickly but feel free to talk about this more if you need to 💖💖

Yep.

The Amendment won't pass, they don't have close to the votes (its a very high bar to pass an Amendment).

But that's not the point.

They don't give a shit about the law. The law is now whatever five bought and perjured Christofascist SCOTUS Justices say it is. The 14th Amendment barred his insurrectionist ass from office, and they made up some law to get around that.

What it's about is normalizing the idea of him getting another term. So when they try to do it, there will be less pushback. It'll just be another thing that's become accepted as part of how things are now, like Covid denial, regular school shootings, having a convicted felon and adjudicated r*pist/fraud/insurrectionist as President, and threats to annex formerly allied countries.

And even if there is an election in 2028, and Republicans lose they didn't hand over powerful peacefully in 2020. They won't in 2028, and they'll be FAR more prepared to hold onto it by force, and it WILL take mass resistance of some kind to force them out.

Stop saying "the next four years," like this is something we can just wait out. That America died on November 5th 2024.
