I haven't watched this, but I'm amazed at the diversity of the questions.
What is art? What is time? What is love? Some of the great questions we ponder as humans.
What is a friend? What is a leader? Sure. Some of that socializing stuff for the kiddos.
What is CHEESE

I finished the last episodes of Young Sheldon and kind of cried a lot. I was having a sad day for other reasons, so it felt nice.

intersex people aren't just some gotcha you can throw out in arguments about trans rights btw. they're real people. intersex people are also hurt by anti-trans legislation because it's rooted in a binary system of sex that doesn't include them, leaving them excluded and in danger. an intersex woman could be excluded from women's spaces, and in fact, they have been excluded already. intersex people have been targeted for not fitting into the binary. they've had procedures to alter their genitals performed at birth or as young children, have had their conditions concealed from them by parents and doctors, and their gender identities aren't respected due to their biological sex. intersex people have poor healthcare, few resources, and a society that doesn't accept them.
stop using intersex people as nothing but a gotcha moment. they're in the trenches with us.

Inspired entirely by this post, but now I'm imagining a single player Mario game where Luigi got turned into a stuffy, but he escaped containment to go help his brother, and now acts as a companion character you use to access secret passages and hidden areas.

i feel like we as a digital society have forgotten the important rules of the internet
Don't feed the trolls
Never give out personal information
Anonymity is the best defense
Don't click suspicious links
Don't click popups and ads
Just because it's written doesn't mean it's true
You are responsible for your own experience
There is porn of everything, act accordingly

Don't you hate it when you have a favourite show which is great, but sometimes there's a bad storyline that just drags on and on, so any time you rewatch and come up to THAT storyline it's just like uggghhh now I have to sit through this whole ordeal AGAIN

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

It's weird how that little "Leaving Soon" logo on Netflix can really motivate you to get something watched IMMINENTLY
I can't believe I never read or watched "Are you there God? It's me Margaret" until now! Proper classic.

Interestingly, most of this was added for the series. In the book, he leaves the first time and then isn't mentioned again from what I recall.
HE'S SUCH A SWEETIEPIE. (Talking about Beltik)
Spoilers(insignificant but still) below the cut
There are so so so many moments to exemplify the fact that Beth is happiest when discussing chess, thinking about chess, playing chess, explaining chess. It's the keystone to her good relationship with her (adoptive) mother, even though her mother doesn't know anything about chess and finds it a waste of time (outside of earning money from it) as well as boring, she'd listen to Beth talk about it and ask Beth to give her play-by-plays of her matches and it served as their quality time together.
And when Harry moves in with Beth to help her learn some new things and do some extra studying after losing to Borgov the first time (and also to be with her after her mother's passing which is. So sweet.) Beth actually manages things (her grief, namely) incredibly well, because he is there and she is happy to spend time with him doing, essentially, All Things Chess. The only problem is that he becomes somewhat disillusioned during this time because he realizes that she takes chess So Seriously and that chess would always be her Number One, so-to-speak. And he takes this incredibly gracefully and when he realizes he has nothing left to tell her about chess that she doesn't already know, and her interest wanes and he realizes that, I guess he has no chance with her romantically in the way that he had dreamed, he tells her as much. Plainly, simply, and then he leaves. And she does make some simple attempts to have him stay (because again, she was enjoying herself a great deal, and she enjoyed his company) by telling him that he helped her a great deal and she didnt mind if he stayed and she was grateful he called, but ultimately he leaves anyhow.
And the fact that he still comes back to check on her after her next loss in Paris is so. Aeugh he is such a sweetiepie and he cares for her a great deal and even when she is being cruel to him out of self-pity and frustration (fueled by addiction) he still takes it with grace and doesn't get offended (when she insults him over working in a grocery store) and still keeps checking on her to make sure she is okay.

Identity of the Day
Demigender
Type: Gender
Definition: Demigender is a label used by those who's gender is partially one gender and partially another.A demiboy is someone who's gender is partially a man or a masculine gender. A demigirl is someone who's gender is partially a woman or a feminine gender. If someone is demifluid their gender is partially one gender but the gender changes over time. If someone is demiflux they are partialy one gender which changes in intensity over time. It is a part of the multigender umbrella. It is a part of the nonbinary, transgender, and genderqueer umbrellas, though not everyone who uses the label will consider themself to be all or any of these as well.
Flag(s):
Tumblr media
This is the Demigender flag, made by Salem in 2014, originally made to be the Deminonbinary flag before being attributed to the wider community. The colors don't have official meanings, though people have attributed the grays to the absence of gender, the yellow to nonbinary genders, and the white to represent partial identities.
Tumblr media
This is the Demigirl flag, made by Salem in February of 2014. We don't have meanings for this flags colors, though they get the same meanings as the previous flag from the community, with the pink representing feminine genders.
Tumblr media
This is an alternate Demigirl flag, made by PearloLesbo on twitter in January 2020. We don't have meanings for the colors.
Tumblr media
This is the Demiboy flag, posted by Salem at the same time as the demigirl flag. It once again has no meanings, but the stripes are given the same meanings, with the blue representing masculine genders.
Tumblr media
This is an alternate Demiboy flag, made by PearloLesbo on twitter in the same post as their demigirl flag. We have no meanings for this flag either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the Demifluid flag made by pride-flags-for-us in February of 2015. It has no color meanings, though all the colors of the previous flags are present, with the gradient likely being used to reference the shifting between identities. The version without the gradient is the same.
Tumblr media
This is the Demiflux flag, made by pride-flags-for-us with no original upload date, though reuploaded in August of 2015. There are no color meanings, though all the colors of the previous flags are present.
Tumblr media
This is the Demiflux Boy flag, made by a-marinara-sauce in July 2021. We have no known meanings for the colors. A Demiflux Boy is someone who's gender fluctuates, always on the spectrum of boy, but never fully.
Tumblr media
This is the Demiflux Girl flag, made by a-marinara-sauce at the same time as the last one. We have no known meanings for the colors. A Demiflux Girl is someone who's gender fluctuates, always on the spectrum of girl, but never fully.

something that i hate is when people use exclusively she/her pronouns on me.
like yeah, i am fine w any pronouns, but it’s just that everyone only uses she/her on me. i get that i look pretty feminine, and sure, it makes sense. but could at least one person try to spice it up? they/them? he/him?
and also, my pronouns are they/any which like, yeah, it does have any in it cause i wont feel uncomfortable or anything if you use any pronouns, but i still like they/them the most.
i feel like i wouldn’t have as much as a problem w she/her and fem terms if it wasn’t the only thing people used w me.
can people please start putting the they or the any in they/any 💔
it literally makes me so happy when people use he/him or they/them. PLEASE 💔💔
(also i like, don’t wanna directly tell people this cause it feels like i’d make them feel guilty and they didnt really do anything wrong)

complimented a cashier on her turtle pin this morning and she said "oh thanks, I am a little bit of a Turtle Person" with the carefully contained energy of Cookie Monster telling you he's mildly fond of chocolate chips
I hope she and the multiple tons of turtle merch she definitely has at home are having a wonderful day

I'm rereading Queen's Gambit (again) and thinking about how chess is a bit like education.
When you're in university learning about teaching, there's time to look at every single aspect of a lesson plan or interaction from multiple perspectives. I enjoyed this very much. It's like reading a chess book slowly and seeing the beauty and complexity.
But once you're working as a teacher, it's more like playing speed chess for 6 hours per day. There's hundreds or thousands of moves to be made, quickly, no time for analysis.
When you get home in the evening you have two options. You can try to run analysis of the day in retrospect, which is frustrating when you discover your own mistakes and only have time to look at a fraction of the decisions anyway. Your other option is to turn your brain off and get some rest before tomorrow.
And what are the stakes? Not to win or lose a chess tournament. But the future of your students' lives.
