Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives should be sweeping all the original screenplay categories especially because of their expert use of language to invite or alienate characters within the respective stories.
And all props to Justine Triet and Celine Song for writing AND directing both.
#female writers and female directors continuously deliver#praying (delusional) for the academy to do the bare minimum and give them screenwriting and direction noms alas#anatomy of a fall#justine triet#past lives#celine song

Sweet monkeys, another one?!? I’m pretty sure the lift was something from the behind the scenes but wasn’t in the original cut. Regardless, Influduction (nee Vibie) is putting out content again and I genuinely missed these boys.

Not to sound incredibly pretentious but I am genuinely concerned with how "strong visual aesthetic" is becoming conflated automatically with "good movie". Like the nightmare scenario is that movies just look pretty while saying absolutely nothing
#vio.rant#yes this is about barbie#like literally what did it truely say about feminism#like what did it contribute? that people should be a person outside of their gender? that there are double standards for women??#and THAT is radical and groundbreaking????? like it was a fun movie but it did not get snubbed lmao#it just was mattell's pr movie that quoted literally every canva hashtag instagram feminism graphic out there#like greta gurwig is a good director this was just not her best work at all. same goes for margot robbie#like sorry i just was not tuned into barbie's story arc at all.#also im just keg got a nom because it was. just the best song in the movie? both story incorporation wise and writing#ive always kinda felt that they uh prolly shouldnt have given ken the only musical number in a movie about barbie but eh thats what they did#but yeah. i feel like people only like it bc its v pretty (which. the set design is INCREDIBLE) but thats not the same as a good movie yunno#maybe thats just where cis people are in terms of gender theory which. that is unfortunate

Yayy for the milestone!!!!❤️
I'd like to have commentary on this passage, please!
A fresh drop of water on her lips – she could breathe again, his words clearing her mind like a cool breeze, a balsam for her fever. She squeezed his hands in reassurance, then let go slowly, whipped the wand out of her pocket and pointed it at her face. Her eyes shut tight, her face scrunched up to battle the pain of Transfiguration – it hurt more if you did it in a hurry, but there was not a second to waste – and Lily was back, bright red lipstick clashing with her hair, uninteresting brows and thin lips that James now didn’t pull back from.
I especially loved the "fresh drop of water on her lips" - because previously you say how her mouth was dry - because of the anticipation and the gravity of that moment! Love it!
Thank you, Abi!! ❤️❤️
Oh, this is a snippet with SO much backstory xD
I've talked before about how this chapter, and namely this scene, gave me a world of trouble! The second part - from Her eyes shut tight till the end - was written for the first draft of this scene, which was later put aside and rewritten. Eventually the second draft didn't work either, though, so I rewrote that scene again, and found the opportunity to use this discarded snippet which I'd loved since the beginning!
I remember rewriting that scene frantically at work, because I'd been stuck on it for too long and I really wanted to post the chapter for @joyseuphoria's birthday 😅 Some of the franticness translated in the text, apparently xD And on one hand, I think it works! There is a part of me that finds the fresh drop of water line unnecessarily purple and cringey 😅 but yeah it came about exactly because her mouth was previously dry, I like working with the words like that! So I'm glad I kept it and you like it 😊❤️❤️
Ask for Nom De Plume commentary here!

man, people criticized barbie for being a sanitized intro to feminism but clearly that’s the level it needed to be at considering the academy watched the whole thing and went yeah… director (and main actress) whom??? We Must Nominate Ken
#btw not trying to take away from america ferrera’s nom bc it’s fantastic she got it#and frankly im more mad abt Greta not being nominated than Margot#but the whole thing just reeks of… yikes#barbie#oscars 2024#im also not trying to take away from Ryan’s performance. I do think he deserves the nom. it’s just Wild#that the movie got nominated for best picture and best screenplay and best supporting actor but not director…#and I suppose best actress too.. but I feel director is the bigger snub for a movie who got nominated for screenplay and actor and picture#yknos?

...wait, people are genuinely upset that greta gerwig didnt get nominated for best director for the toy commercial movie when the movie got nominations for best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best original song, best production design, best costume design, best picture, and best adapted screenplay for which greta gerwig was nominated?
#kai rambles#im sorry#im just like so annoyed at all the#''movie about feminism and patriarchy made by women has oscar nom go to ken'' reactions#as if no women were nominated at all?????#america ferrera was nominated#billie eilish was nominated#margot robbie was nominated as part of the best picture nom#greta gerwig was fucking nominated#like im sorry but this is like the white feminist version of a moral panic#also justine triet was nominated for best director for anatomy of a fall but i guess yall dont care about films in different languages#also lily gladstone got a best actress nomination becoming the first native american to nominated for an oscar#nimona got a best animated feature film nomination#in general we're seeing more non-english language films get nominations which goes a long way in convincing the general public in the#angliaphere to actually engage with media outside of it#*anglosphere#i just#your babys first feminism toy commercial not sweeping every category is a non-issue#and these reactions are so fucking embarrassing#like im sorry but the toy commercial movie happens to also have a lot of issues with white feminism#and a lot lf native americans have spoken out about it being outright hostile to them#its not a perfect film and its not being snubbed by the patriarchy#it just happens to be that there are other films that came out which were better

Also, I would LOVE for Jacob to get some awards stuff, though I love these year-end mentions for him and I know that lead actor is especially competitive, but it could be a good thing for next year that next season is TVL and Sam got the CC nomination...l mean, anything they can use to be like, invest money and time in this show, do publicity, people like this and want to see more of it!
I'd love for him to get some awards acknowledgement too, anon! I'm so disappointed that they missed the Emmys window this year, as I think there would've been more room for them to get some acknowledgement there across the board (especially given there's a wider range of categories), but alas. Fingers crossed AMC releases in the window for that with s3, especially now that the show does seem to be gaining traction.
#really hoping some of the guild awards come through#the fact that all those stills we got of the incredible s2 sets were from a presentation at the art director's guild#makes me really hopeful that the team might get nommed at those awards#awards chatter#iwtv asks#jacob asks

Working Girl (1988). When a secretary's idea is stolen by her boss, she seizes an opportunity to steal it back by pretending she has her boss' job.
Deeeelightful. This is just seriously so much fun and emboldened with great comedic performances, strong writing, and a romance that's as much about self-love as it is about falling in love. Really special little 80s romcom with a stellar cast. 7/10.

i dont think enough people understand that there is a masterclass of acting AND directing AND writing AND composing AND set and costume design going on in iwtv and like no one is watching the show. yes there's a LOT of fans but like. if they DONT get an emmy nom there's something really really wrong idk how else to explain it
#AT THE VERY LEAST jacob deserves a nom#sam and the writers and delainey and the costume designers and the COMPOSERS and the DIRECTORS#it's all top tier im blown away every episode and NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT#iwtv
