Any thoughts on genital piercings? Do you have any?
A Little Light/A Little Dark || -
And just like that, with an indelicate snort of a laugh, Beth's POG in her nasal passages. Where as she's more of a fan of a gentle saline rinse from a neti pot to the harsh chemicals of most over the counter antihistamines and where as she thinks everyone deserves a little extra vitamin C in their diet, the two things should never be combined, and certainly not with a mixture of pineapple and guava mixed into the orange juice. Silver can't help but laugh, and she's a hundred percent certain that from the corner of her now watery eyes that she's seen some money change hands between little Ben and Jack. Fortunately, none of the actual adults ~Flint, Miranda, Gates~ are having breakfast with their young associates. Once she's taken a good swipe at her face with her napkin and is no longer in danger of choking on or spitting into her acai bowl, she glares at Doctah Manderly beside her. Okay, if he can make her look like an idiot, she can do him one better, and not even Annie will be able to spare him this time with a timely interruption. Not that she faults the Irish Setter. Her person is just….well. She's too polite to even think it in the privacy of her own head. Beth stretches leisurely. Almost catlike. She can almost feel the almost no hair at the back of his neck stand on end because William doesn't like people getting close. Which does make her wonder who managed to talk him into asking her that, and what sort of leverage they used. Meanwhile, she fixes him with a smouldering half-lidded gaze and makes her voice as sultry as she possibly can, the kind of voice indicative of rumpled sheets and lazy kisses the morning after. Not that she expects him to understand that, she's willing to put money on the fact that he's never had an intimate relationship in all of his life. She also partially lies through her teeth; there's something traumatic in just the idea of it, at least on the female body, and the fact that some women don't have enough flesh in certain parts to even try it. There's the risk of contracting an infection or disease. There's the issue with cleaning things properly, and for most people, there's always the risk of dislodging or poking holes in their preferred prophylactics. The biggest draw back though is the potential for nerve damage, which would be counter productive to the whole process. But she does have a piercing he has yet to discover, which is what makes it partially a lie. "Billy, ku'ipo, if you t'ink ya man big enough, you should come try find out yaself. I will say dat yes…I got a piercing way below my ears, but I'm not gonna give it away jus' cause ya aks."

That's My Kinda Night (Rhett Abbott x Reader)
Summary: Your 4th Of July celebration on the Abbott land turns out to be the best you've ever had
Warnings: Parenthood, drinking, holiday shenanigans etc.
Tagging: @floydsmuse @bradleybeachbabe
The barbecue was in full swing with John, Royal and a few of their friends manning the grills and smokers, everyone enjoying themselves to the fullest extent. Billy had been deejaying all afternoon while you and Rhett brought out the rest of the food from the house. Amy had been running wild all day with Rose and her friends while Perry had come for his monthly visit.
Kayce and Rip rolled up in the truck just a few minutes later, the snap cover of the truck looking rather lumpy. "The hell you guys got in here?" Rhett asked.
"Take a look," Kayce said with a huge, shit eating grin.
Rhett pulled back the cover, his jaw hanging wide open and his eyes bugging from his skull. "Ya'll didn't!" he exclaimed.
"The fuck we did," Rip chuckled.
"And he gave'em all too you guys?"
"Got it half off for the Fourth," Kayce answered. "Even the big bangers."
Rhett gasped when he saw them, those glorious, huge fireworks that Gale Burch, the neighborhood church hag, destested with every fiber of her being. There was no way in hell they were going to pass up that opportunity.
Royal, John and Wayne all came down a minute later, beer cans in hand and Wayne puffing away on a cigar. "Looks like ya'll have a good haul," John remarked.
"Got it all half off, Dad," Kayce told him.
The three grown men were wide eyed and laughing with surprise. "Holy Jeebus, Mary and Joseph!" Royal laughed. "Now that's what I call a load."
"Wide load, heavy toad," Wayne laughed.
"Wanna help set'em off, Dad?" Rhett asked.
"Does a bear shit in the woods?" Royal retorted.
Rhett laughed as you made your way down the path to the truck. A squawk escaped your throat when you saw the load in the truck bed. "Oh my God, Gale's gonna have a shit fit when she hears these," you chuckled.
"Good, maybe it'll get the stick outta her ass," Rhett laughed.
You and Rhett went back to the barbecue, enjoying the rest of the night as it came, dancing under the pavilion with your friends and family and enjoying all the tasty food. You, Rhett, Kayce, Monica, Rip and Beth all laughed your asses off as you tried to do the Cupid Shuffle, screwing up and laughing along the way. Unbeknownst to you, your mother-in-law, Patricia and the other mothers had all snuck down to the truck to get a look at the load of fireworks.
"Oh my God, ya'll are never gonna believe this," Cecelia said, pulling back the snap cover.
Patricia gasped and so didn't Tanya Rainwater. Winona Redwood cackled like a witch when she laid eyes on it too, all of them excited to see what kind of chaos this would cause the very next day.
"If Wayne burns his eyebrows again I'm done," Patricia chuckled, throwing her hands up.
"That ain't the only thing he's gonna burn off," Cecelia told her. "Remember back in college when these idiots drove all the way down here and came back up to Bozeman with a load of'em?"
The women all groaned, the memories of their husbands' stupidity still fresh as it had been forty years previously.
"Yeah and Chief Running-Of-The-Mouth and his partner, Afraid-Of-Crotch-Hair, didn't realize that ya'll don't light that shit near your pants," Patricia laughed. "Remember, eyes open, knees shut!"
"If Wayne's knees are open, shut your eyes," Tanya laughed.
They all laughed, returning back to the pavilion, their husbands all leading them in for a dance as "Copperhead Road" began to play from the speakers.
At last the sun went down and the gang began prepping for the fireworks. The older kids, some of whom were your students at the Amelia County Steiner School, were being shown how to properly light everything, while you and Rhett began unloading the haul.
"You ready for the show?" Rhett purred in a low voice as he pressed you against the trunk of the tree.
"More than ready cowboy," you giggled, tipping the brim of his hat up.
He leaned in and kissed you, his lips soft and warm as they moved in sync with yours. Your arms wrapped around his waist, Rhett's hands gently cupping your face.
"Hey you two wanna quit suckin face and come help?!" Royal called from across the field.
"Comin Dad!" Rhett answered.
You and Rhett hurried along to go and help them set up. The kids were all eager to get started now that it was pitch black out, the anticipation in the air so thick, it could've been cut with a knife.
"Daddy! Daddy! I wanna light it!" Amy chirped.
"Yeah I wanna light it too!" Rosie Hawk piped in.
"Rosie, ya'll need to ask your mommas if you can light it. Amy you and Rosie are still too little," Rhett told her.
The two girls scrunched their faces up in their usual pouty, disappointed looks, running off to go and raid the dessert table instead.
"Alright kiddos," Rhett said to the group of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders who gathered around him. "Ya'll remember what to do?"
"Eyes open," Jaime Campbell answered.
"Knees shut," said Katie Stone.
"And don't burn yourself," Clay Hauser replied.
"Excellent!" Rhett exclaimed. "Now get to work my evil little goons."
"YES SIR!" they all replied.
As soon as the music started to play, you, Rhett and the others went all across the field, lighting off the fireworks. They hissed as they flew into the air, bursting apart in colorful sparks of red, white, blue, gold, green and purple. The screamers and the pinwheels had been the favorite of the kids, flying about in a spiral before disappearing into thin air.
Rhett set off a set that he and the others had called "dragon tails", fireworks that screamed into the air and coiled about like their namesake before exploding with a chest rattling *BOOM!*. Finally, it was time for the big ones.
"Ya'll wanna do the honors darlin?" he asked.
"With pleasure!" you exclaimed happily.
You lit the wick with Rhett's lighter, rushing to get out of the way as it screamed and flew into the air, higher, higher and higher still. High above the treeline it burst apart, everyone covering their ears as golden sparks rained down from above. All at once the colorful rockets flew into the air and exploded to the awe of the onlookers. You and Rhett however, stood back near the trees and shared a kiss, unbeknownst to everyone else.

Notes
Everybody is all smiles for the group picture, from heroes to villains and everything in-between. Even characters who were otherwise sticks in the mud like Hank genuinely smile for the picture. Villains such as Muntz, de la Cruz, Lotso, Thunderclap and his gang, Syndrome, Evelyn, Randall, Waternoose, Hopper, Skinner, and Ercole, as much of evil psychopaths they were, are seen tenderly and respectfully singing along. Even Sid, who was a massive bully to Hannah, is seen giving her a kind brotherly embrace. Also, most movies’ main cast seem to be cramped together. Even the villains stand near their respective heroes, everyone in a healthy relationship with their families and loved ones are tenderly holding each other close, and many of the larger characters offer their bodies for the smaller ones.
Forky, Heimlich, Dory, Jack-Jack, Mater, WALL-E, and one of the triplets wave at the camera.
Dim and Wee Dingwall give the camera dopey smiles.
The egg-shaped bluebirds and the gawky bird stand perched above the entrance. The bluebirds are happy to have the gawky bird with them, a far cry from how they treated him in their short.
Sulley carries Boo tenderly in his arms. Helen does the same to Jack-Jack, as do Presto with Alec, Carl and Russell with Kevin’s babies, Elinor and Fergus with their triplet sons, Embarrassment with Envy, Massimo with Machiavelli, and Izzy with Sox.
Terri attempts to dance before his other half stops him.
Hank carries Marlin, Dory, and Nemo in a coffee pot.
Voyd and Abby giddily bounce in place, clearly the most excited for the photo.
Linguini carries Remy while Colette holds Django and Emile.
WALL-E and EVE hold the umbrellas from The Blue Umbrella.
HAN-S still can’t stay still, shaking aggressively as the photo is taken.
Kevin and her babies take the time to mimic Carl once again.
Maudie and the Clan Dingwall hunk share a loving look.
Young Macintosh flexes his pecs while giving the camera a cocky smile, the same type of smile given by characters like Terry, Darby, and Clod.
The Witch has her Crow standing perched on her shoulder.
Being stationary volcanoes, Uka and Lele are unable to leave their photo. Thankfully, they have Thunderclap and his gang to hold it so they can be in the group picture.
Nostalgia sticks her head out from behind Embarrassment, clearly hiding from the other emotions.
Riley, Grace, and Bree all carry Knick together while Riley’s parents carry the Miami and Florida knick knacks, Val and the Fire Hawks carry the Egypt, Jamaica, Palm Springs, Israel, and Death Valley knick knacks, and Coach Roberts carries Sunny Atlantis in her fish bowl.
Cindy, Son’s fiancée, winks at the camera as the photo is taken.
Machiavelli gives the camera his standard bored look.
Mei has her red hair, panda ears, and panda tail, continuing to embrace her panda.
Aaron Z gives the camera a thumbs up while Tae Young makes a heart with his hands.
Izzy gives Sox a neck scratch.
Alisha and Kiko’s inclusion also counts due to their backlash following the movie’s release.

Alone and drifting through the world, a fire burning inside of you that threatens to snuff out, Grace teaches you alongside the Omaticaya at her school. They call her sa’nok, and sometimes you wish you could call her that too. But you feel like you would be betraying your mother. Neytiri is your spark, even while you’re young, shy when Grace pushes you to play with her and even shyer when the two of you form a tentative friendship. But it grows, and she grows into the woman you know now. Life without her is miserable, but at least you have something new to explore in the form of your Avatar. You run through the forests and help Grace, and soon you are 20 years old and looking out onto your life like it is a prison. You could leave. Go to Earth. But you couldn’t leave the forest, your Aunt, the memories of your mother and father. Then, Jake Sully comes, a warrior with no legs, who holds the same spark as Neytiri does. But with the weight of impending war looming on each of you, death everywhere, you don’t know if they can keep you ablaze.

Mario Kart
Summary - Y/N decides to engage her brothers and Castiel into Mario Kart, not realizing what she was getting herself into.
Pairings - Dean Winchester x Sister!Reader, Sam Winchester x Sister!Reader, Jack Kline x Platonic!Winchester!Reader, Castiel x Winchester!Reader
Word Count - 1,911 words
"Let's get it!" Y/N squeals, claiming her spot on the middle of the couch. She was practically bouncing up and down, waiting impatiently for everyone to join her. The Dean Cave had brightened considerably since she had added a few redecorations. While Dean initially denied her, she had forced him to allow her to put up LED lights, several polaroids from her camera(they were mostly of herself smiling widely at the camera while Sam and Dean looked mildly annoyed with fake smiles. There was also a real funny one where Sam was unconscious on a hunt and Y/N decided to pose beside him), as well as posters from their favorite bands. Not to mention the added dock to the TV stand to hold her Nintendo Switch that Sam had bought her for her previous birthday.
She supposed he regretted it now, since she was forcing him to play a game he'd never even heard of.
He entered the room first, holding a big bowl of popcorn and a soda. Dean followed close behind, Little Debbie packages hanging from his mouth since his arms were occupied with pillows from their bedrooms and a pack of beers for himself. Jack was the only one to come empty handed. He happily took the spot beside Y/N, waving merrily as Castiel also appeared with two sodas(both of them for Beth because he was just so considerate), taking the spot on her other side.
"I'll give this an hour before we switch to movie night, Y/N," Dean warned as he occupied his armchair, which was to the left of the couch. She had discovered this old thing at a garage sale. It had been a rather stressful day because Dean had refused to strap it to Baby and they had to hound what little friends they had for a truck. Since most of their friends were dead, Y/N had hot wired one outside of a bar and returned it before the drunk redneck inside could notice it had even left. She was sure the dent in the bed was there before they put the couch on it. Sam had not been happy about that.
Sam took his own armchair, which was to the right of the couch.
"What is it, again?" he asked curiously.
"Is the only thing in the media you've ever heard Facebook? You've seriously never heard of Mario Kart?" Y/N asked, happily accepting one of the sodas from Castiel. "Dad really did a number on us. I was introduced to this through Charlie." She got up to grab the number of controllers necessary for four. Jack was eager to try the game, but he was always open to trying new things, something Y/N could appreciate.
After connecting them to the Switch, she handed them out to her brothers along with Jack before returning to her spot on the couch between the angel and nephilim.
"If I remember correctly from what you've told me, it's a racing game, right?" Castiel asked.
"Exactly, except with a few quirks to make it interesting. Like, um...I could throw a shell and hit one of them and vice versa. Or a banana peel. I'll give them a trial run before we actually get into it. Are you sure you don't want to try it, Cas?"
Castiel shook his head. "I have seen how you play with Charlie, and I don't want to be on the receiving end of your anger. And I rather like watching you in your element."
Y/N smiled, blushing, before playfully pushing him.
"I need to get drunk to stomach this," Dean said, offended as he popped one of the beers open and took a gulp. "Keep the PDA to a minimum guys, you've got a kid next to you. Alright, what buttons do I push to hit Sam?"
"What the hell?" Sam scoffed.
"What?"
"We haven't even started and you're gunnin' for me?"
"Uh, yeah!"
"Alright, alright! First we gotta pick our player," Y/N mediated, pressing the buttons to get them to the screen full of Mario players. "I already got mine." She moved her icon until it landed on Wendy, before selecting her. "Obviously the best character, hands down."
The three boys maneuvered their icons over different characters, for some reason taking it a little too seriously on who they would choose. Sam selected his first.
"Luigi?" Dean scoffed.
"You got a problem?" Sam asked.
"No, but...why Luigi?"
"Who cares, I just chose him."
"You have to have a reason, man." Dean shook his head, before selecting his own.
"Why'd you choose Bowser, then?"
"Because he's a badass. And he'd beat the holy hell out of Luigi if the games lost their PG rating," Dean shrugged.
Jack hummed thoughtfully, still scrolling. "I choose him!"
He selected Toad.
"Why him, Jack?" she asked.
"I like his hat."
Y/N snorted, but it was a valid enough answer. Once everyone was ready, she selected the settings for the game and then decided to use the time to explain to them how the controls worked and anything else they were curious about. After a few trial races, they were ready for the real thing. Castiel was sitting patiently, his hands on his lap.
"You assholes are going down," Dean declared, bringing his remote closer to him.
"So much for being appropriate in front of the kid," Y/N sneered, but she was just as ready.
She set the game to go through ten races with a random select for the roads.
And with that, they were off.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" Dean yelled, nearly jumping to his feet. His first empty beer bottle slide across the floor from his rapid movement. "I DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT! I DIDN'T GO NEAR THE GODDAMN PEEL!"
"That might've been mine," Sam stated, smugly. "But Bowser also takes up half the road, so avoiding it was probably impossible anyway."
Dean squinted. "You callin' me fat, Sammy?"
Sam shrugged. "Luigi's doing just fine."
Y/N hid her smile as she hit her own item, snatching that smile right from Sam's face.
"Why did you do that?" he asked, incredulous, the red shell sending Luigi off the edge of the map.
"You got in my way!" Y/N sang.
It only seemed to get worse from there. What was supposed to be an hour of playing turned into four with the bowl of popcorn thrown across the room at Dean when he had decided to hit Sam three times with three separate shells before snagging first place and doing a lewd dance as a way to declare his victory. Y/N's hair had bristled up, becoming bushier almost as though it were alive. Her right eye was twitching, and her hands were cramping by now.
Jack, however, was having a good time. He has gotten last place the entire time, but he was still having fun, and that's what truly mattered.
Castiel, on the other hand, seemed to be on the verge of a panic attack, not knowing whose side he should take because all three Winchester siblings were completely out of their minds, including Y/N.
Finally, it was the last race. Everyone's nerves were shot. Sam's hair seemed even more raggedy than Y/N's, and his shirt was stained with soda because Dean decided to take vengeance by chucking his pillow at him when Sam was taking a big gulp. They had to pause the game for several minutes while Sam fought for his life coughing and wheezing because the soda went down the wrong pipe.
"I'm afraid I must at least attempt to deter you guys from participating in another race. There aren't any weapons in the Dean Cave, but I'm sure you three will find a way to kill each other," Castiel said, worried. "Jack, are you okay?"
Jack nodded enthusiastically. "I'm having fun!"
"I will let it be known if I lose, someone is dying tonight. I will call Billie to fix it, but someone has to die tonight if I lose," Y/N threatened.
"Good luck with that, I'm kicking all of your asses, and you can kiss mine when it crosses the finish line," Dean said.
"I don't even care if I win, as long as you guys lose. And I'll make sure it happens." Sam jeered.
With that, the race began. Aside from Jack and Castiel, everyone was bloodthirsty. Surely no matter who won, someone was gonna be pissed off. Castiel was making a mental note to grab Jack as soon as possible and escort him out of the room while the siblings brawled.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Y/N shouted, jumping to her feet. "WHO DID IT! WHO DID IT?"
"I did!" Sam happily announced, moving to and fro with the turn of his controller, as though he were in the game himself.
"I'm gonna get you, Sam," Y/N snarled, pressing hard on the buttons, trying her best to catch up to her brother, collecting any items she came across, but none of them were good enough, so she kept using them without thinking until she heard Dean curse and also jump to his feet.
"THAT WAS ME, JACKASS!" he yelled, completely distraught. "I didn't even do anything this time!"
"You probably deserved it anyway!" Sam shrugged, continuing to maneuver through the AIs to get to the front.
By that time, Dean and Y/N had caught up, and with all they had, they used their items to completely screw each other over up until every kart had passed them. In the end, they were the bottom three with Sam first, Y/N second, and Dean in dead last. And for a moment there after, nobody said anything. They were completely beside themselves in utter shock at what just occurred.
"What just happened?" Y/N asked, deflating considerably.
"We lost..." Sam mumbled.
"Screw you guys, I lost overall!" Dean scoffed.
"I won!" Jack suddenly cheered, leaping to his feet and jumping up and down. "I won!"
"You what?" Y/N asked, shocked as her eyes trailed to the top. Sure enough, Toad was in first place. "You're kidding!"
"I can't believe I won!" Jack said, smiling as he high-fived a proud Castiel.
"I want a rematch," Dean commanded, sitting back down and retrieving his controller.
"Yeah, me, too!" Sam agreed.
"I'm down!" Y/N eagerly agreed, about to grab hers when Castiel snatched it. He went around the room, taking up all the controllers.
"Given that it's five in the morning, and just a couple moments ago you three were ready to quite literally rip each other's throats out, I'm going to recommend everyone get up and get to bed instead," he instructed curtly. "I think we should postpone a future night of games indefinitely, at least for a little while until you three can learn to control yourselves."
"What-but-you can't-" Y/N sputtered.
"Quite literally, I can shut off whatever is necessary so you can never play the game again with just a snap of my fingers," Castiel warned. "Shower and get some sleep. Jody already told us she needed to discuss something at noon tomorrow, and it would be rude if we were tardy. C'mon, let's go!"
With a grumble, everyone got up and cleaned their mess, ignoring each other vehemently as they walked out. Except for Jack; he was practically skipping.
There was another good thing about tonight that he knew about. He was the one that triggered the lightning item that really stumped the three siblings and put them at the bottom three.

Could you maybe do a jason/raven story with a cowboy au? Lol cowboy Jason seems so wrong but so right.
Hello,
How do I not have a cowboy AU, like an actual cowboy AU, not a Wild West AU, I have a Wild West AU?
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the start of a new AU!
Haven...
He didn’t really know what he was expecting when he left the service, he couldn’t go back home, but he didn’t want to continue his path. Leaving the service, it was a difficult choice, but he was thirty-seven, and he had never lived. He’d joined to escape, he had twenty-four numbers in his phone who would never answer again, he’d killed many people to save just as many people, he had fought, and died for his country, his men, his brothers, and he had left knowing he’d done all he could do. He could stay, he could continue his service, but Jason didn’t know if he had it in him ay more, so he left.
He had left everything he knew, he couldn’t go back to his family, and he couldn’t stay with his men, so he left. Essentials in his pack, and a motorcycle, his weapons secured to his person, he’d ridden out of base without looking back, and Ace; his dog, in the side car.
They had ridden long and hard, looking over the forty-eight continental states he had long since fought and defended with everything he had. He had looked over small towns, quiet towns, Podunk towns, middle of nowhere, big sprawling cities.
Eventually Jason landed in New Mexico, it wasn’t entirely intentional he had made it as far as he had. He had found a help wanted advertisement, and Jason didn’t know jack shit about ranching, but he had more than enough experience with survival and life that he figured he could learn quickly. Couldn’t be as hard as Buds had been, or combat, and working with animals was known to sooth the soul.
He found the ranch, Angel’s Haven, and he was stunned when he saw a young woman running it. Her name was Raven Rachel Roth, she was the legal guardian of her cousins, and the ranch was her grandfather’s. She had just lost her foreman; a man named Garfield Logan, and Jason had applied to the position with promise he learned quickly, and he had experience in positions of command and high stress environments. She had signed him on, informing him the barracks were a mess, but he would have lodgings there.
Jason did learn, he worked hard, and he ran the men fairly. He worked with Raven a lot.
Her cousins, Mary-Beth, Billy, and Jessica all ran about as little kids would, and he learned she operated a small tutoring session for children from the town and res, especially for the fathers and mothers who worked on her ranch and thye couldn’t always get to town.
Raven was Navajo and German Jew; she had lost a lot of family in the Holocaust. Her grandfather had been a survivor of Auschwitz; Alan Roth was a resilient man. Her grandmother was a Ooljee was a member of the Navajo Tribe. Her grandparents had met and fallen in love, having two daughters, Angela and Alice. Angela, Raven’s mother had married a member of the tribe, while Alice had married a New York Lawyer. Raven’s father had been a veteran, and in a fit of drunken rage, her father had killed her mother, her aunt, her uncle and her grandmother, her grandfather had passed shortly after. Her father had perished in prison, and Raven was left raising three kids.
Raven impressed Jason, a lot. She was calm, decisive, sharp, dry humor, wry, and relatively gentle, but there was a violence in the woman which Jason recognized and respected. She was also a hell of a sharp shooter, and just as good in a fight as any of the men, she wasn’t bullied by the two ton bulls and she didn’t take shit from anyone, he respected that a lot. He also loved working with her, because they could talk, she talked books, with a deep love and appreciation that only Jason’s grandfather had ever held. And God, she was smart, she was worldly even if she had ever left the ranch or reservation, and she could out ride, out drink, and outshoot most the men he knew. Plus she was good with a blade. If she wasn’t ten years his junior, he’d dare to say he was in love with the woman, but he refused to be that pervy old man.
Jason also loved her cousins, Mary-Beth, Billy, and Jessica, they didn’t seem to know their cousin was their cousin and not their mother, and he fucking respected Rae for that, she didn’t back down or shy away from challenges. She was a force of nature.
It was calving season, two years of this, and Jason knew the routine, but today he was watching Billy because Raven had to take Mary-Beth and Jessica shopping for clothes. So he was watching the boy on a new colt, Billy was six and Jason was impressed watching the kid handle the young colt. There was a crunching of gravel towards the main house had Jason looking over as he caught the horse so Billy wasn’t riding unsupervised.
“Who’s car is that?” Billy asked. It was a fancy SUV, and Jason frowned.
“I don’t know,” he muttered as he pulled Billy off the colt, setting the kid on the pen fencing before the climbed out. He picked up Billy, setting the kid on his hip as he walked for where the SUV was parked.
“Can I help you folks?” Jason asked. But he stopped where he was walking as Ace circled Jason and came to sit at his side, huffing happily, licking his chops.
“Jay!” Dick smiled charmingly. “Never took you for the cowboy type.”
“Get the hell out of here Dick,” Jason snarled threateningly.
“You said bad word!” Billy bellowed in his ear which had Jason giving the side eye to his charge.
“And you will never ever, ever, ever tell little bird,” he warned. “Man secret.”
Billy was giggling as Jason turned his glare on his elder brother. “Get the hell out of here Dick.”
“Alfred passed, Jay, thought you’d want to know,” Dick said softly.

She smells it.
That’s what it always is – that first tug of it. The musty scent of the bag over her head, like it’s been left forgotten too long in the back of a linen closet, in a laundry basket, balled up in the trunk of a car. After the smell, the rest of it finds her, just like it had that night – the slightly too-cold chill of the car air conditioning, the thrumming, just-audible sound of top-40 hits on the radio, her own breaths – too loud, too fast, even to her own ears.
“Please,” she hears herself say, every sharp drawn inhale pulling the fabric of the bag into her mouth, every time leaving it a little wetter, from her breaths or her tears, she’s not sure. “I’m a mother, I have four children, I - - I’m not - - I’m not anyone, I’m not - -”
Then that low, rumbling laugh, unfamiliar, but - - but not quite, and she hadn’t been able to place it until he’d talked.
“Boss wants you,” the voice – Bullet, Demon, one of them, one of Rio’s boys, that much she knows – says. “Usually doesn’t want somebody who ain’t somethin’, lady.”
And it’s quicker than any knife, than any gunshot, that eruption of confusion, of anger, of grief, tearing through her chest, holding her hostage, and then the memory of the rest of it is flooding her senses too, fixing her arms, clutching at her throat and then it’s - -
Then its tiny, cold hands pushing at her jaw, and a little forearm crushing awkwardly at her neck, and Beth wakes up with a gasp, scrambling back against the bedsheets.

She straightens her dress and checks her makeup before she leaves, He runs a hand over her hair to flatten a couple of strands at the back, and runs a hand towel up her leg and then she’s gone, the door closing softly behind her. His eyes lift to the mirror and he can see his hands shaking.
He didn’t kiss her, not on the mouth. He recognised her husband as he turned in his chair trying to catch the wait staff’s eye. If he’s being honest with himself, the idea of her returning to the table dishevelled and obviously fucked out turns him on more than anything, but there’s a time and a place and this definitely isn’t it.
He left a mark on her neck, knowing it would be hidden by her hair. He’d left one on her inner thigh too, right after he’d pulled her underwear down and pressed her into the sink. The noise she’d made when he bit down on her ass and shoved two fingers into her is still fresh in his mind, and he bites his lip as he bends down to pick up the turquoise thong.
He second guesses himself for a moment and considers throwing it in the trash, but in the end he thinks a silent fuck it and shoves it in his pocket.

“Whose place is this?” she asks.
Both men ignore her.
“I really need that money,” Billy says, voice breathy.
…Maybe a little too breathy.
Beth shifts over so she can get a better angle on him, one not hidden by Rio’s slim but dark frame.
And Beth doesn’t know what recovering addicts look like, but with his watery eyes, struggling chest and general greenness, Beth thinks he just looks pretty… sick.
“Rio…”
“Looks like you pretty loaded,” Rio gestures around.
“It’s my aunt’s place.” He swallows hard, like it’s a struggle. His eyes are desperate. “I just needed a few things, then I’m headed out. And one of the things was that money.”
The moment seems to unfold in slow motion.
Rio reaches, lifting up his shirt as his hand lands on his gun. She wants to speak, wants to make him stop. From her angle, she sees him open his mouth, ready to issue whatever threat he’s thought up in the last second he’d realised they’d been tricked.
And then Billy coughs.

She awakens with a shock, disoriented. Sunlight pours into the room forcing her to squint the moment her eyes open. A sharp pain shoots through her temple and she groans softly. Her mouth tastes as if something died in it. She tries to remember the night but all she recalls is dinner, and Annie buying the first round of shots. Tequila .
Jesus.
She leans forward on her arm, gets an elbow underneath, and pushes up. Pain shoots through her head and a wave of nausea hits her.
That’s when she hears it. A quiet groan behind her and then the bed shifts.
That’s also about the time Beth realizes she’s completely naked. She grabs the thin sheet around her chest, pulls it up to her neck, and turns her body. Next to her, just as naked, is a man. He’s stretched out on his back, an arm thrown over his eyes, the sheet barely covering him.
She panics.
She stammers, kicks her legs out, and stumbles off the bed. When she pulls the bedsheet with her it slides off of his body. She yelps.
His eyes flutter open, they’re brown and unfocused.
She can’t help it, she looks down. His brown skin contrasts against the hotel sheets in a way that makes her mouth dry.
“Oh my god,” she gasps, pulls the sheet up against her body, and turns away from him.

"If it's not over," Beth said, trying to stop her voice from shaking. "What's left?"
He took a step towards her and she bit her inner lip, ordering her feet not to move.
"Sit tight and don't do something stupid," he glanced at her house then back at her. "Or you'll find out real quick." Something dark passed behind his eyes.
"I won't go to the police."
"Good."
Her neck was tensing up from looking up at him at such close distance, from wanting to pull a bit away from him. She kept his gaze, feeling the tension between them coil and stretch until she couldn't take it anymore.
"Was the gun even loaded?" Although he had just threatened her she couldn't resist asking. What did he give her a gun for? What did he want?
"Even if it wasn't—" he shook his head and took a step back. "There's always a chance there's a bullet stuck inside." She could smell the geraniums when she replayed those words in the days that followed. Could smell the wind picking up around them.
"You trusted me not to shoot you?" Her eyes widened.
"Took a leap of faith." He raised his chin. "I'll see you. When I'm back to collect."

Now that I’m back on Tumblr it’s time to bring back my year-end TV list!!!! I know you all have missed it SO MUCH*
*okay it’s probably less that you have missed it and more that I have missed rambling on and on about television :) glad to be back at it!
In ye olden times I used to do separate posts but I will spare you that and wrap them all up in one nice big post for you. So now, in no particular order, my favorite shows of 2020!
I May Destroy You – Woof. This is a show that sticks with you. A show that makes you reconsider some things you thought you understood. Absolutely incredible. Michaela Coel should have unlimited money to make whatever she wants to make from here until eternity.
What We Do In the Shadows – JACKIE DAYTONA. This show is probably the funniest show on television. That is all.
How To with John Wilson – This show is impossible to properly explain, so I won’t even try, but I just absolutely adored it. I think it probably hits harder if you’re a New Yorker (or at least know New York intimately) but it's examination of what makes us all human is pretty universal. If you only watch one episode of TV from this list, make it the final episode, ‘How to Make Risotto’, which was filmed as the pandemic hit NYC, and is a both a moving tribute to human connection and the first real documentary of how quickly this year slipped away from all of us.
The Queen’s Gambit – The absolute best thing about this show is that it deliberately swerves away from doing the obvious “dark and realistic” things that “prestige” television so often likes to do. Beth didn’t need to be traumatized or harassed in order for you to root for her. Her only real enemy was herself. That shouldn’t be such a groundbreaking thing these days, but it is!
I Hate Suzie – It is absolutely reductive to call this ‘Billie Piper’s Fleabag’ because they are quite different shows, but the rawness and the honesty and the bite is all there. Like a few other shows on this list (I May Destroy You, How to...) it sneaks up on you and knocks you out.
Ted Lasso – This show is so damn delightful. It’s just so warm and cheesy in the best ways and is full of characters you just want to root for. Who would have thought that a TV show based on a NBC Sports commercial would turn out to be Actually Great?! 2020 really has been a wild ride, man!
Bojack Horseman – They stuck the landing, and I cried the whole time. Will forever be one of my all-time favorite shows.
Schitt’s Creek – Another final season of comedy that I cried the whole way through? What is with these comedies making me cry so much?!?!?! Anyway, you all watch this show. You all love this show. There is nothing left to say other than I will miss it very much! Truly overjoyed it swept the Emmys!
Harley Quinn – This show has absolutely no right to be as fun and hilarious as it is. Even *I* have grown a bit tired of all the superhero stuff these days, but this is proof there is still life and creativity left in the genre!
Mythic Quest – I feel like this may be a controversial choice because from what I can tell, I am the only person on the planet who enjoys this show? At least enough to talk about it? I dunno, guys, I really liked it! I also saw a tweet that wondered if this show was basically a subtweet at working under Dan Harmon (Megan Ganz created it, who used to write for Community) and whether or not that is true, I found that read on it FASCINATING. It’s also the only show that did a ~pandemic~ episode and actually got it right. Seriously, it’s worth watching for that episode alone! But I also thought it was really funny!
The Good Fight – I don’t know if this season of The Good Fight was as *good* as other things on this list (not helped by the fact the season got cut short by COVID) but by god is this show one that I look forward to every week. It’s truly chaotic in the best way and takes giant swings that sometimes don’t always work out but it is one of the most entertaining things on television. And for a show that has really hinged on the absurdity of living through the Trump era, it will be interesting to see how it evolves as things (hopefully) calm down a little bit.
The Good Lord Bird – A show about such dark subject matter is not one you’d expect to be hilarious, but it really is. Ethan Hawke BRINGS IT.
Honorable Mentions: The Great, Search Party, Brockmire, The Boys
Previous Years (I have been doing this for TEN YEARS!!!! Holy crap!)

Despite growing together on neighbouring spreads like ivy and trellis, Beth isn't aware of all the Dutton secrets and those they go to war against, and this is what it feels like. The chaos and confusion, sounds more or less foreign to her. The man in front of her made of steel and fire. He sounds like Andy when he talks. Somewhere around the edges, he looks like Billy. Like Kayce. She has to wonder if her siblings are out there. Jay, the baby, a livestock agent, might have been on the call list, if anyone had managed to make one. Fingers of fear seem to latch tighter around her throat as she thinks about her siblings and of those close enough to be cousins, friends, life long companions. And some part of takes a step back and wonders why she's so willing to trust Holden as readily as she does, not suspecting him in having a hand on this ambush. Some relief rises up like a spring when he told her Cara was no where near this mess, and neither was John. A man she loved and admired and put on a pedestal, as if he were the spirit of the Living West. A man more myth than real in some ways. But when Holden looks down, she does too and sees the dark stains. She doesn't have to be a doctor to see what a ticking time-bomb that is for both of them, though now doesn't seem to be the right time to try and get his shirt off, see if the wound needs hospitalisation. There's no blue to his lips, no sign of a punctured lung. She can't help but twitch a grin when he stops himself. Of course she does. All of the Rileys had learn to shoot at around the same time they learned to ride. Some of them you could swear were born in the saddle. She remembers the Admiral standing behind her, holding up most of the weight of a small, two shot Derringer when she was just a little over five years old. As she grew, so did the calibre and weight of the weapon. She and Jay excel at long guns where as the boys are more adept with pistols, though they all can defend life, land, and liberty if they must. She narrows her gaze at him. Did he have the same sort of comfort? She counts with him, and when they hit three, she and Holden move as two halves of a whole, creeping low but fast.

Barbara La Marr (born Reatha Dale Watson; July 28, 1896 – January 30, 1926) was an American film actress and screenwriter who appeared in twenty-seven films during her career between 1920 and 1926. La Marr was also noted by the media for her beauty, dubbed as the "Girl Who Is Too Beautiful," as well as her tumultuous personal life.
Born in Yakima, Washington, La Marr spent her early life in the Pacific Northwest before relocating with her family to California when she was a teenager. After performing in vaudeville and working as a dancer in New York City, she moved to Los Angeles with her second husband and became a screenwriter for Fox Film Corporation, writing several successful films for the company. La Marr was finally "discovered" by Douglas Fairbanks, who gave her a prominent role in The Nut (1921), then cast her as Milady de Winter in his production of The Three Musketeers (1921). After two further career-boosting films with director Rex Ingram (The Prisoner of Zenda and Trifling Women, both with Ramon Novarro), La Marr signed with Arthur H. Sawyer to make several films for various studios, including The Hero (1923), Souls for Sale (1923), and The Shooting of Dan McGrew (1924), the first and last of which she co-wrote.
During her career, La Marr became known as the pre-eminent vamp of the 1920s; she partied and drank heavily, once remarking to the press that she only slept two hours a night. In 1924, La Marr's health began to falter after a series of crash diets for comeback roles further affected her lifestyle, leading to her death from pulmonary tuberculosis and nephritis at age 29. She was posthumously honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to the film industry.
Barbara La Marr was born in 1896 as Reatha Dale Watson to William and Rosana "Rose" Watson in Yakima, Washington (La Marr later claimed she was born in Richmond, Virginia). Her father was an editor for a newspaper and her mother, a native of Corvallis, Oregon, already had one son, Henry, and a daughter, Violet, from a previous marriage. La Marr's parents had wed some time during 1884, and had a son, William Watson, Jr., born in June 1886, ten years before she was born. Through her mother, La Marr was of German and English descent.
In the 1920s, the elder Watson became a vaudeville comedian under the stage name of Billy Devore. The Watsons lived in various locations in Washington and Oregon during La Marr's formative years. By 1900, she was living with her parents in Portland, Oregon, with her brother William, her half-sister Violet Ross, and Violet's husband Arvel Ross. As a child, La Marr also performed as a dancer in vaudeville, and made her acting debut as Little Eva in a Tacoma stage production of Uncle Tom's Cabin in 1904.
By 1910, La Marr was living in Fresno, California, with her parents. Some time after 1911, the family moved to Los Angeles, and La Marr worked at a department store. La Marr also appeared in burlesque shows. In January 1913, her half-sister, now going by the name of Violet Ake, took her 16-year-old sister on a three-day automobile excursion with a man named C.C. Boxley. They drove up to Santa Barbara, but after a few days, La Marr felt that they were not going to let her return home. Ake and Boxley finally let La Marr return to Los Angeles after they realized that warrants were issued for their arrests, accusing them of kidnapping. This episode was published in several newspapers, and La Marr even testified against her sister, but the case eventually was dropped. La Marr's name appeared frequently in newspaper headlines during the next few years. In November 1914, she came back to California from Arizona and announced that she was the newly widowed wife of a rancher named Jack Lytell and that they were supposedly married in Mexico. She also stated that she loathed the name Reatha and preferred to be called by the childhood nickname "Beth."
After marrying and moving in with her third husband, vaudevillian Ben Deely, La Marr, who at one time had aspirations of being a poet, found employment writing screenplays at Fox Film Corporation using the name Folly Lyell. She wrote numerous scenarios for studio shorts at Fox and United Artists, many of which she based on her life, earning over US$10,000 during her tenure at the studios. She was credited as writer Barbara La Marr Deely on the films The Mother of His Children, The Rose of Nome, Flame of Youth, The Little Grey Mouse, and The Land of Jazz (all released in 1920).
La Marr continued to write short screenplays for the studio and supported herself by dancing in various cities across the country, including New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, and at the 1915 World's Fair in San Francisco. La Marr's dance partners included Rudolph Valentino and Clifton Webb, and her dance routines attracted the attention of publisher William Randolph Hearst, who featured her and a dance partner in a series of articles published in the San Francisco Examiner around 1914.
While working in the writers' building at United Artists, La Marr was approached by Mary Pickford, who reportedly embraced her and said, "My dear, you are too beautiful to be behind a camera. Your vibrant magnetism should be shared by film audiences." La Marr's association with filmmakers led to her returning to Los Angeles and making her film debut in 1920 in Harriet and the Piper. Though a supporting part, the film garnered her attention from audiences. La Marr made the successful transition from writer to actress with her supporting role in The Nut (1921), playing a femme fatale. Later the same year, she was hired by Douglas Fairbanks to play the substantial part of Milady de Winter in The Three Musketeers.
Over the next several years, La Marr acted frequently in films, and became known to the public as "The Girl Who Is Too Beautiful", after Adela Rogers St. Johns, a Hearst newspaper feature writer, saw a judge sending her home during a police beat in Los Angeles because she was "too beautiful and young to be on her own in the big city." This publicity did much to promote her career. Among La Marr's films are The Prisoner of Zenda and Trifling Women, both 1922 releases directed by Rex Ingram. Although her film career flourished, she embraced the fast-paced Hollywood nightlife, remarking in an interview that she slept no more than two hours a night.
In 1923, La Marr appeared in the comedy The Brass Bottle, portraying the role of the Queen, and Poor Men's Wives. She had a supporting part in the Fred Niblo-directed comedy Strangers of the Night, and was noted in a New York Times review for her "capable" performance. She starred in the lead role, with Bert Lytell and Lionel Barrymore, in The Eternal City (1923), which featured a cameo appearance by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
In 1924, during the filming of Thy Name Is Woman, production supervisor Irving Thalberg made regular visits to the set to ensure that La Marr's alcoholism was not interfering with the shoot. The same year, La Marr's first starring, above-the-title role came in the drama Sandra, from First National Pictures, which she filmed in New York City in August 1924. La Marr had served as a co-writer on the film, which focused on a woman suffering from a split-personality disorder Upon release, the film received dismally negative reviews.
La Marr's final screenplay, titled My Husband's Wives, was produced by Fox in 1924, arriving in theaters shortly after the release of Sandra, and before the production of what proved to be her final three films: The Heart of a Siren (a mixed reception), The White Monkey (a critical failure), and The Girl from Montmartre (a critical success, albeit posthumously released). While shooting The Girl from Montmartre in early October 1925, La Marr collapsed on set and went into a coma as the studio wrapped production without her with use of a double in long shots.
Although the tally is usually given as five, La Marr officially was married only four times. No documentation exists to prove the existence of her alleged first husband, Jack Lytelle, whom she claimed to have met while visiting friends in Yuma, Arizona in 1914. According to La Marr, Lytelle became enamored with her as he saw her one day riding in an automobile while he was on horseback. The couple allegedly married the day after they met, but Lytelle, it was claimed, died of pneumonia only three weeks into the marriage, leaving only a surname for Mrs. Lytelle to inherit.
La Marr's first official documented marriage on June 2, 1914, was to a Max Lawrence, who later turned out to be a former soldier of fortune named Lawrence Converse. He already was married with children when he married La Marr under a false name, and was arrested for bigamy the following day. Converse died of a blood clot in his brain three days later on June 5.
On October 13, 1916, La Marr married Philip Ainsworth, a noted dancer. Although the son of well-off parents, Ainsworth eventually was incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison for passing bad checks, and the couple divorced in 1917. She married for a fourth time to Ben Deely, also a dancer, in 1918. Deely, who was over twice her age, was an alcoholic and a gambling addict, which led to the couple's separation in April 1921. Before the divorce from Deely was finalized, La Marr married actor Jack Dougherty in May 1923. Despite separating a year later, they remained legally married until her death.
Some years after La Marr's death, she was revealed to have given birth to a son, Marvin Carville La Marr, on July 29, 1922. The name of the boy's father has never been released. During her final illness, La Marr entrusted the care of her son to her close friend, actress ZaSu Pitts, and Pitts' husband, film executive Tom Gallery. After La Marr's death, the child was legally adopted by Pitts and Gallery, and was renamed Don Gallery. Don Gallery died in 2014.
La Marr partied long hours and got very little sleep during the latter part of her career, often pairing this behavior with drinking during especially low points; she once told an interviewer: "I cheat nature. I never sleep more than two hours a day. I have better things to do."[8] In addition to her drinking and lack of sleep, during the last two years of her life La Marr went on several extreme crash diets to lose weight.[8] La Marr was rumored to have at one time ingested a tapeworm head in a pill to help her lose weight.
By late 1925, La Marr's health had deteriorated significantly due to pulmonary tuberculosis. While filming her final feature, The Girl from Montmartre, La Marr collapsed on the set and lapsed into a coma. In mid-December, she was diagnosed with nephritis, an inflammation of the kidneys, as a complication of her already tubercular state. La Marr was bedridden through Christmas, and by late December, she reportedly weighed less than 80 pounds (36 kg).
Some historians and writers have claimed that La Marr was addicted to morphine and heroin, which she had been prescribed after injuring her ankle and which may have contributed to her health problems. In Sherri Snyder's 2017 biography of La Marr, the writer states that these claims were untrue and erroneously reported. A frequently recirculated rumor was that La Marr was arrested for morphine possession in Los Angeles; however, Snyder states that this claim was mistakenly attributed to La Marr, when it had in fact been actress Alma Rubens who had been arrested in January 1931, five years after La Marr's death. Ben Finney, a close friend of La Marr, contested the claims of drug use, stating: "It is inconceivable that during our close friendship I would not have known if she were a junkie," adding, "She did well enough with booze."
On January 30, 1926, La Marr died of complications associated with tuberculosis and nephritis at her parents' home in Altadena, California, at the age of 29. Her friend, film director Paul Bern, was with her when she died. La Marr's son later speculated that Bern may have been his biological father, though this eventually was disproved; Bern died in a mysterious shooting six years later.
La Marr's funeral at the Walter C. Blue Undertaking Chapel in Los Angeles attracted over 3,000 fans, and five women reportedly fainted in the crowd and had to be removed by police to safety. After her removal from the church during the funeral procession, hundreds of fans flooded the chapel hoping to obtain flowers from the decorative arrangements. She was interred in a crypt at Hollywood Cathedral Mausoleum, in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. For her contribution to the motion picture industry, La Marr has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1621 Vine Street.
Producer Louis B. Mayer, a longtime admirer of La Marr, named actress Hedy Lamarr after her. She is also referred to in the popular 1932 Flanagan and Allen song "Underneath the Arches" during a break in which Ches Allen reads the headlines from a 1926 newspaper. Children's author Edward Eager set an episode of his 1954 book Half Magic at a showing of La Marr's Sandra and includes ironic descriptions of the movie.

Thank you to @bathroombreaks and @inyoursheets who encouraged me to try this. 14 days of writing for me and 14 days of quarantine for Brio! Let’s see how this goes...
(Set post-2x12)
This New Strain
Day 1
Beth wants it on the record that none of this was her idea.
She’s said as much at least ten times along the way, though, so she doesn’t say it now, only shooting a short glance at Rio.
He’d turned the radio off and she hadn’t blamed him. Everything is about death tolls, road closures or quarantine tips. Some stations are trying to seem jovial, but it’s just not working.
She’s spent the whole ride up texting with Annie, who is apparently done setting Ben up in the boys’ room.
She, Annie and Ruby had all braved the stores together, stocking up for what’s to come. Her sister’s staying with her, and they have a nightly call planned with the Hill family. She’d been so ready – and then Rio had turned up at her door.
“Good, you look ready.”
“Ready for what?”
“We gotta go meet someone.”
“Who? Rio, we’re supposed to be in quarantine – I’m pretty sure even crime has to stop for a while.”
He sniffs at this, and she’s not sure if it’s in contempt or genuine amusement.
“Get your coat. Snacks. It’s a long drive.”
And now here they are, five minutes away from whatever cottage Rio’s contact is staying in, because apparently even they know it’s time to stock up and hole up, preferably as far away from civilisation as possible.
Rio takes a turn and they go onto a dirt road lined with shrubbery.
The GPS continues giving them directions and then finally they pull up to the cottage which is… not what Beth had been expecting. It looks, in a word, luxurious. Despite being set in the middle of a forest, it looks like a river cottage, set up on pillars and made of a deep dark wood. Warn lights burn on the inside, hinting at the dusk beginning to fall.
Beth frowns.
“You know, we’ve been driving for over an hour and you still haven’t even told me who we’re meeting or why.”
“Said his name was Billy, didn’t I?”
“Yeah,” she scoffs, “but who’s Billy?”
He pulls up then sighs, turning off the ignition.
“He can get your dealership back up and running.”
She stares back at him, blinking rapidly. Several questions come to mind – most notably, why in the hell had he waited this long to tell her this? – but one rings out above all the others.
“How?”
“Dunno,” he shrugs. “That’s what we here to find out.”
She narrows her eyes at him and he rolls his.
“What?”
“You drove all the way out here without even knowing?” she asks, tone filled with suspicion.
That’s not like him at all.
He juts out a thumb.
“Said he had to show us. You comin?”
With that, he climbs out of the car, and she huffs out a breath as she follows, taking her handbag with her.
He must think he does it surreptitiously but she’s a step behind, so she notices when he checks his gun.
Beth swallows. “Do I really have to go in with you?”
“Look. It’s one meeting, alright? Then you get to tuck your lil family away and not see me again till this shit blows over.”
“I won’t have to see you again? Do you promise?”
He shoots her a look but she’s smiling, and he rolls his eyes before taking the steps up to the front door.
His fist pounds against it.
“Yo, Billy, it’s me.”
“It’s open!”
Rio hesitates for a moment then pushes the door open. They step inside and the first thing Beth registers is that there’s no way this place is Billy’s.
Billy looks like his entire outfit is from lost and found, and he hasn’t showered or seen the sun in a few days.
He throws a quick glance up at them from where he’s digging behind a couch, eyes rimmed red.
“Who’s the chick?”
“This Elizabeth – you good, man?”
Beth closes the door behind her but stays glued to it, jittery, as Rio moves forward. Something in her stomach is telling her that something is off, and it’s not being helped by the tone of Rio’s voice. Nor by the impression she’s getting that Billy’s… well, robbing the place.
“Yeah, I’m just… trying to get clean,” he clears his throat, straightening up. “Did you bring the money?”
“’Cuz I’m that dumb? You know how it works,” Rio says, shoulders jerking as he gets closer. “Show me the goods then you get a taste. Come through then you get paid.”
“You always did make that sound like a nursery rhyme,” Billy mutters.
Beth looks around. The kitchen is huge; gleaming. The fridge is bigger than her own; looks at least doubly as expensive. The furniture in the lounge is all warm wood and leather; some huge art pieces adorning the walls.

Book Challenge 2020 (100 books!!) (I did it!!)
After forgetting to track my reading for three years, I started recording my reading on Tumblr last year again, and I’m committed to continuing that this year!
This year is my final year of my Bachelor’s Degrees (I’m finishing English in June) and I’m planning to do a gap year from September on, so now more university after June (at least as far as 2020 is concerned).
I do not really foresee any issues or obstacles to reading this year, except of course finishing my thesis which will probably take quite some time, so I do expect a decline around April until early June. Although I do have a lot more time off in my gap year, I used to read a lot of mandatory books for my studies, so I don’t know whether having a gap year will mean reading more books. Since I’m not doing any university studying, I am interested in reading academic books by myself, studying by myself. Those books are often longer, denser and just take more time to get through; consequently, I might read fewer books in the same amount of energy and time spent reading.
To make a (somewhat) long story short: my expectations are in line with the amount of books I’ve read in the last years, so I’m expecting to read 75 books this year!
Update: it’s mid-October and I’ve already read 99 books this year, so I’ve finished my original goal of 75 books! Now I’m going for 100 books (which should be easy to do, and after that we’ll just see how it goes!).
The crossed book is the one I’m currently reading, I’ve written reviews for books that have a (x) behind them, with the (x) being a link to my Goodreads review!
Update: Today (November 23) I’ve read 114 books so I’ve finished my challenge of 100 books! Right now, I’m still 25 books ahead schedule! Let’s see if I can keep that energy up!
