Behold!! The Ninja Tribunal in all their fully rendered glory!!

Chikara was the hardest in terms of coloring so her colors are the most identical to the 03 designs. Hisomi on the other hand was the easiest and I will be chasing that high for the rest of my life! Anyway,, Kon is a low emergent bitch while Chikara is a high energy bitch. Jotu causes problems on purpose for everyone. Hisomi….it’s the quiet ones you gotta watch out for…

LET'S GOOOOO. Okay so this piece is a collaboration with the epic @redstringraven. I commissioned the lineart from them as part of tmnt4p then did the rendering and bg myself!

Do we like it more with the lighting effects or not?

This is the first part of 4 that redstringraven and I collabed on with the 2003 boys and their Ninja Tribunal friends. I just finally got around to actually rendering it 😭. Any feedback is appreciated!

its messed up how in the season 4 finale, its stated that this is the first time donny's left the lair in weeks since he's been recovering from the aftermath of his second mutation

and then they're immediately attacked. donatello is lifted and smacked onto concrete hard enough to knock him out while he was trying to get to raph who was pinned and helpless.

and then they're kidnapped and put in a (unlocked) cell!

they didn't let don help with moving furniture in the lair that morning, but that night all that shit goes down. they really cannot catch a break

So im rewatching the Ninja Tribunal arc and i need to know if there's a fic out there where Splinter 1 v 4 the gods cuz he's sick and fucking tired of people putting his kids in danger. I swear to god every breath this rat man takes anytime the Tribunal is near is pure shit talk. He really be like "I wish a bitch would! On my dear master Yoshi imma beat someones ass if they lay a finger on my babies!" 😤😤😤

Oh dear lord… the Ninja Tribunal arch. So much to unpack. Give me strength…

I’m going to try and be fair, I’m going to mention something positive for every complaint I make. I don’t want to be that person after all.

Firstly, please, please, for the love of all things , STOP CALLING OUT ATTACKS LIKE A CHEAP 90S ANIME DUB!!! The original cringe. 😖

Ok, nice thing time. These four were very likable (if not superfluous). I found myself wanting to know more about them and even shipping some of them with the Hamato brothers, if not romantically then at least as besties. Sadly they spend the entire arch building up friendships between these humans and the Turtles only to kill them off in the end. But it feels SO forced. We weren’t given enough time with them to really cry over them as individuals so much as morn the wasted potential they were brimming with. I get they couldn’t kill off the Turtles and thus needed some “Red Shirts” to try and sell the high stakes, but still.

And what about the relatives they were threatened with in the first episode of the arch? Joi Reynard’s Aunt who lives in Japan (I’m assuming Army or Navy brat, she’s WAY too caucasian to even be half Japanese, I’m assuming French ancestry), and Adam McCay’s brother (who never gets a name) in Miami Florida? Faraji Ngala and Yoshida Tora aren’t given specific loved ones to fret over but Tora obviously has someone because he apologizes to Mikey “…our families are at stake.”

Did anyone notify those poor people that their relatives died?! Because they weren’t even mentioned after this.

Side note while we’re on the subject of the folks left behind back on the home front, I hope April or one of the other human Allie’s back in NY are taking care of Klunk. With the way the Hamato clan keeps getting kidnaped for long periods of time, the poor fluff ball could starve easily.

These four, ugh where to start?

Positive note, beautiful visual designs, if not a westerner’s usual hodgepodge of Asian fantasy stereotypes. 🙄😑

Weak backstory, contorting groundbreaking original canon for this series into a very boring and predictable bit of nonsense. Completely unnecessary and obviously half assed, to the point where the Turtles sum it up so succinctly you want to say to Splinter and The Ancient One “That’s how you tell a story!”

Oh and their attitudes sucked! Almost as bad as their communication skills. Thankfully, when he arrived, Splinter flat out called them out on their crap. “How can they prepare themselves if you do not tell them anything?!”

Probably should say something positive again… Um, their voice actors were great?😅 And I love the juxtaposition of the girl being the one to represent strength and having a huge man representing stealth.

The weapons. Positive observations, they’re real weapon types and are actually pretty cool looking. Also it’s nice to see the boys deviated from their comfort zones (not Leo unfortunately, the writers just can’t separate him from swords in their minds apparently). How Leo gets his is so infuriatingly complicated when it didn’t need to be and falls into the trope of “black guy dies first” (then the girl, then the sweetheart, then the cool dude. Did we take a wrong turn into a late 90s horror movie or something?).

The monsters. None of these creatures look like their Japanese inspiration AT ALL! And none of them are Tengu, Tengu doesn’t even mean “demon”! They just stuck Tengu on the end of every other Japanese Yokai name! For no good reason!

I kept hearing that line from Princess Bride in my head. “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

I’m not even Asian and I’m so offended and confused, I can’t imagine how an actual member of the Japanese culture must feel getting shit on like this. Whoever wrote this arch did not respect the source material, the source culture, or the audience because they obviously assumed we were all stupid unaware kids! Ether that, or they were seriously lazy, I suspect both.

And if you’re going to give an English speaking cast of white people Japanese words to say, TEACH THEM HOW TO £¥€&ING SAY THEM CORRECTLY! Jeezus Henry Christmas! (Best Herminone Granger voice) It’s “Oh-Knee” not “On-Eye”!

Bright side, they do look awesome.🤷🏻‍♀️

Thinking about Splinter feeling Donnie call him from the Triceraton ship, not knowing what’s going on, only sensing that his boy is in pain, and helping him through it as well as he can without being there. “I am with you”= astral plane equivalent of holding his baby’s hand and telling him to squeeze if it hurts.

Thinking about later when his kiddos are scattered across dimensions and Donatello goes to a nightmare world and watches his whole family die. Splinter reaches through time and space, again, to take his babies by the hand and I’m sure he could sense, again, that Donnie was not having a good time.

Thinking about Good Genes when Donnie isn’t on an alien space ship or an alternate world, he’s in the room with them. Splinter can recognize the feeling of being stuck, the lack of awareness that comes with pain, the desperation to just survive. He’s felt it all before from Donatello. And he tries to reach him the way he always has. “My son, you do not want to hurt your brother.” But even though Donnie lets go of Mikey’s leg, it’s not like it was the other times. He’s always been able to reach Donnie from anywhere and protect him even when he can’t Protect him, but now his boy is literally sitting right in front of him and is beyond his reach. He has to wait for someone else to save him.

Thinking about the Ninja Tribunal taking Splinter’s kids the DAY Donnie is well enough to go play outside. And this time he doesn’t try to reach them through the astral plane. He was meditating when they were taken. The Ancient One says he can’t go see them physically but Splinter is not hearing it. Nobody and nothing is going to take his babies where he can’t reach them, ever again.

I grew up with the animated Mulan movie. The first thing that came to my late teenaged mind was that Tengu Shredder had concubines in his palace during the Yamato era.

While still fixated on TMNT at large, I am especially not able to stop thinking about Bad End Ninja Turtles, an au comic by @butterfilledpockets. 2003's "Same as it Never Was" Raph may not have ever experienced the Ninja Tribunal arc, AND I don't think Rise movie Leo still has his powers, so maybe this was just as much of a surprise for the both of them as it was for Ronin. at least we know for sursies Don-bot has seen magic shit before.

⚔️ Sketch Log 2 - TMNT Fantasy AU ⚔️

Sharing my previous sketches and doodles! First, we got Tribunal Donatello got injured after the rough fight, April, she came to the rescue. Donnie said, "I knew I can rely on you..." ^^

And here's my appreciation doodles of April and Irma being a great BESTIES!!!! Gotta be my fav girlfriends EVEEERRR!!!!♡♡♡♡ April could use a lot more girl talk with her, taking a break from the tribunal turtle boys and all kicking-butts thing. To me, I've seen Irma as her support system, she radiates "Step to it, gurl!" vibes, gives a bombastic side eye energy, and they shared a lot of common interest. They can just chill and talk about normal things for awhile too.

Irma Langinstein here, a normal teenage villager girl, April's library bestie and she trusts April very much, she's not very fond of fairy tale-like creatures in the books, especially dragons. She told April that she don't believe such creatures exists. Irma also adds that dragons are such evil and crafty creatures ever walked on the earth, they're known to bring nothing but chaos upon the earth by using their bizzare powers and magic spells.

Irma believed that dragons are wiped out and long gone after the war broke. April often imagined the life outside the village and the kingdom. Her greatest wish is to go see the world, she long to explore the distance lands which holds a mystery and untold tales. I wrote this fantasy au Knightess April's first time meeting the tribunal turtlefolks, it's more like a heroine meeting strange creatures soon to be friends and an ally trope.

Made an 1987 Venus, and a 2012 Venus, so I’ve been long overdue to make a 2003 Venus! Tada~

In this interpretation, Venus wasn’t initially separated from her brothers. Instead, she was raised alongside them-up until the family went on the trip to Japan to return Hamato Yoshi’s ashes. The whole ordeal with the ninja tribunal happened around about the same, however at the end, while erasing the turtles memories, the tribunal saw Venus’s mystic potential and took her away to be trained by them, wiping her families memories of her as well.

Skip ahead a few years, and when Leo his sent away from is family-instead of the Ancient One, he meets her. Another turtle willing to help who feels so so familiar…

if you’re up to it, i always thought the glowing designs and weapons from season 5 of tmnt 2003 were pretty cool! i haven’t seen a whole lot of fan art so it’d be cool to see your take :)

They are really cool and that season has some great episodes!

If TMNT 2003 ever gets the Saturday Morning Adventures treatment, I sure hope Emilio Lopez and Khary Randolph are brought on to do the artwork. They are KILLING IT between all the previews for the upcoming 2003 oneshot and yesterday's Father's Day illustration.

The 03 turtles are very pure. They live in the darkest genre of any of the cartoons, but they themselves are always kind, brave and noble. They always help the helpless and that impulse never misleads them into helping a villain. They put up with being bullied by the Ninja Tribunal for the sake of the world when I think at least one member of any other group would have snapped.
