FAERIE'S DAWN

Following the Shattering of Reality, the world was plunged into what came to be known as the Faewildes: an ever-changing world suffused with magic and danger.

Humanity crumbled under the weight of the new reality while fae—and the archfae above them—emerged to rule over the new world. Humans couldn't compete against the fae's sheer magical prowess, and soon built strongholds in territories with weak magical presence to stand against them.

Now, so many generations later, humanity has finally learned of faekind's weakness: metal, which weakens fae and blocks their magic.

A war is breaking out between humanity and fae, with gods each picking sides in the conflict. Between faeries Nova, Cloud, and Sky, and the human settlement Eve and Asa protect... who will win?

Crime-solving Neurodivergent Characters I Enjoy!

In my opinion, Will Graham, Holden Ford, and Gregory House are the best autistic characters I've seen. They're very smart, and while House is actually a genuis, the way his intelligence is approached compared to a characters like Spencer Reid or Sheldon Cooper is vastly different. They're extremely passionate and good at their jobs (which are arguably their special interests) but it just feels a lot less... gimmicky and like its not feeding so much into stereotypes. They stim and get overstimulated all the time. They have relationships, but they struggle with social interaction and society's expectations. They're rude quite a lot, not because they're inherently mean people, but because while they can recognize they're being rude, they either can't understand that the reasoning society has put in place for why their actions/words are rude or they don't even really notice because they can't naturally recognize the social cues going on around them (House specifically wants to be an asshole but I'm talking about how he acts unintentionally). They have one person they're really close with who understands them but otherwise tends to isolate themselves. They struggle to understand how they're feeling. They're different. They're weird, but not comically so. They feel like they were written as real people with real emotions and not as some extreme, unrealistically fake character.

Don't get me wrong, I love Spencer Reid as much as the next person, and autism is a spectrum, and I know there are autistic people who do relate to him and other autistic characters. I just feel like autistic characters are so often sensationalized, infantilizated, and written as almost comically unrealistic. And I'm not saying Will, Holden, or House aren't unrealistic because they are in a lot of ways, but they don't feel like a joke. The point is that we are all different, and it's nice to see characters break out of that mold that autistic representation has historically forced them into.

Again, autism is a spectrum, and I know there are people out there who relate a lot to Spencer or Sheldon or whoever, and that's completely fine. But I feel like we so rarely get to see autistic characters actually on a spectrum, instead of being shoved into one box.

Oh, I absolutely need to talk about the separation arc from an NPD perspective.

Because I definitely think Reigen could have NPD, and from that angle, his responses to things make perfect, PAINFUL amounts of sense.

Essentially, up until Mob walked away from him in that alley, he’d been on a high. He felt overconfident, unbeatable. Business was booming! He was getting praise! And because empathy is hard to come by for pwNPD, especially on highs and crashes, he didn’t notice that Mob was not as happy about things as he was.

Let me tell you a little something about a narc high. It is fragile. It is precarious. I call them jenga tower days. One minute you are standing tall and proud. One wrong push or pull or poke at your built ego, and it comes CRASHING DOWN.

The moment Reigen realized his ego had caused him to mess the fuck up with Mob, his only friend? BOOM. Crash. Spiral. And on the outside, at first, he appeared to try and backpedal, to deny, to pretend things were fine on hopes they could GO BACK to how they where. But that doesn’t happen. So he is left to deal with the aftermath of the damage his ego caused, alone, because he hasn’t established communication or expressed his feelings properly with, well, ANYONE, probably. So he has to realize that he can have friendships that aren’t reliant on ego boosting, on business, on superficiality.

He can have someone who genuinely likes him, who thinks he is capable of good, egotistical assholery and all.

And that is so important to me.

yanqing & yunli except i headcanon yunli as audhd so it’s yanqing and his disaster gf

i’ve seen this one really really really sweet couple on insta, it’s a nt guy and his audhd wife and theyre so sweet. he takes the time to understand her and how their brains are different and it’s so lovely. anyways i kind of imagine yanli like that when their relationship develops more. especially because we got to see them outside of their squabbling in the last part of the tb quest—they work together well; they actually have grown to trust and respect each other (there’s also a dialogue if you choose to talk to yunli before confronting hoolay w/ feixiao where she compliments yanqing on his finishing atk and asks him to teach it to her—she even lightheartedly admits he might be stronger than her), and i feel that their trust and respect will only grow more with time. and of course they will always squabble and pick at each other

so to elaborate on audhd yunli, first off we all know how blunt and stubborn she is. her thinking is so straightforward that even her fighting style is “smash with big stick, everything die” (she prefers brute force over strategy or dexterity—doesn’t mean she can’t strategize, i just mean to point out that even in her fighting she gets straight to the point which i find amusing). i adore her so much my beautiful autistic daughter. special interest is swords. yanqing gets an honorable mention because he’s also obsessed with swords but i think he’s just a sword nerd who collects swords while yunli’s interest goes into the forging, the history, the personalities of the swords

yunli: we may both be obsessed with swords but i am obsessed with them in a much deeper and more autistic way than you could ever be

i have also considered though that yanqing could be headcanoned as having adhd; he’s impulsive, and i do still love the idea from pjo of demigods having an advantage in battle because of their adhd. reminds me of yanqing, he’s a hyperactive little dude bouncing all over the place in battle and idk. he’s also just. a teenage boy. so idk, remains to be determined

anyways i just hc that in all parts of yunli’s life except for anything having to do with swords she’s a complete mess and a ticking time bomb. everything in her room is a mess—except her swords (and old mettle is given the most pristine treatment). she’ll ignore any expectations put upon her unless it has to do with swords or something else she’s a little interested in. she has a few safe foods she eats on rotation in mass amounts.

also im imagining her in school and all i can picture is the leg bounce and the thousand yard stare. +10000 aura she doodles swords on all her papers. every project where students are given enough creative liberty and freedom to choose their topic, you fucking bet yunli is going to talk about swords in one way or another. idk how school works on the xianzhou zuming or frankly anywhere in hsr, but i guess that doesnt matter and i dont really care

also her sense of justice and tunnel vision with cursed swords. it’s so black and white to her (it has a lot to do with trauma ofc, but still i see that same kind of black/white thinking and extreme sensitivity to injustice as a trait on the spectrum).

i also would like to share headcanons about her sensorial and tactical development as a child lol. something about her screams sensory seeking. i use the korean voiceover, and i ADORE how they’ve voiced her and the direction they went. i haven’t listened to the english much, but from what ive heard she seems a lot more softspoken, which isn’t at all wrong or bad, it just is different than what i expected. in the kvo she’s got this monotone shrill going on that little girls with zero vocal control have and it’s fantastic. i hc she has no sense of volume whatsoever, can’t perceive her voice and doesn’t realize she’s shouting, things like that. it really fits with how she acted in her story quest, she’s just absolutely tone-deaf, both literally with her voice and figuratively with social cues, reading the room, etc.

practicing with old mettle has got to be so fucking loud, she’s throwing that shit around and it’s going CLANG CLANG CLANG and there’s no way she doesn’t have massive tolerance to high sensory input. for kids who are on the extreme end of high sensory needs, they’ll sometimes just seek out loud noises constantly, and of course, won’t realize it might be disruptive to others because they don’t even feel like it’s loud. so yeah yunli stims by throwing swords around because hell yeah. the fucking CLANG CLANG CLANG regulates her nervous system i just know it🗣️🔥

while some people are just born with dif sensory needs/issues, they can also develop due to your sensory experience, or lack thereof, as a child. kids who weren’t held/interacted with enough might have difficulty with lots of sensory input, while on the other hand (i dont know this one for sure, i am making a guess) i would think that a lot of exposure to excess sensory input might cause that kid to develop high sensory needs.

and that’s what i think with yunli would be part of her sensory issues, whether or not we’re even talking about autism—she grew up in the forgery around all that constant noise, not to mention the traumatic cursed sword event which could have exacerbated the way all that affected her nervous system because it also messed with her emotions and trauma is stored in the body AND she was a child, yadda yadda :3

i could keep going but idk this has been in my drafts for so long bc i kept thinking of shit and i didnt even talk that much about yanli

the reason i see them as disaster gf and nt bf is because although we’ve seen yanqing being a little shit, so much of that is about his maturity level as he’s still a teen. i just feel it and can’t articulate it well, i just feel that he’s got a calm spirit in there somewhere and as he grows he’s going to become so measured and patient and self-disciplined and it’s fantastic i want to see him grow into a fine young man (i know we probably wont but i can imagine it😞). it feels like that’s the direction he’s going with all the development from the recent tb quest, not to mention the parallels he has with jingliu

i hope this makes sense to others and not just me, for some reason i really see them as the wholesome nd girl and nt boy unlikely wombo combo cause yanqing has so much spunk and fire and yunli has so much spunk and fire but neurodivergently and they just burst into flames around each other but as they grow older it will wane and they will fan it down into glowing embers, soft and warm in the hearth; yanqing will hold her explosive spirit in his hands so gently, he’ll admire and understand her like no one else because somehow he just gets her, and she thrives in his comforting warmth. and when yanqing’s spirit crumbles and he loses that warmth and loses faith in himself, yunli can remind him of his strength and reinstall his sense of justice; she also brings the fresh autistic perspective of carefree innocence and autonomy that i feel yanqing needs in times where he might be overwhelmed by expectations or outside opinions. i just ugh i just . i love them i am going to throw up they’re beautiful and i just think that autistic yunli being understood by neurotypical yanqing is something that is so important to. society at large ,

Hello, hope you are doing well. I am currently trying to make an Aromantic Asexual character that is a sociopath. I believe there is a negative stereotype around these two parties that they are cold and unloving and would like to try portray and show people that hey they are human and are capable of love. However, I'm slightly hesitant to do so since I don't want to play into the stereotype. Please send advice! ( Also have a fantastic day)

This advice is going to lean on the "sociopath" term a bit because I have more advice to give on the topic, and it's also not something we've explored in this way before on the blog.

I have some biases here because I have a Cluster B personality disorder (a cluster which includes disorders that are often labelled as "sociopath"). The term sociopath is generally considered outdated at best and derogatory at worst, with people mainly only using the term to harken to a legacy of criminalizing and institutionalizing people who don't express care for others in a way that is legible to others, or whose care is not expressed in a healthy way.

Based on your wording here, I'm assuming that you are using the term in an earnest way to describe a neurodivergent experience, and do not believe in these ableist assumptions yourself.

Because of this, I would recommend determining more specifically what you mean by "sociopath," and then dropping the term. Do you mean low/no empathy? Do you mean a specific disorder (and which one)? What does this look like for them, and what does their emotional and mental experience feel like for them? There are resources out there for learning more about what these things feel like for people who have low/no empathy, or who have disorders that are categorized this way, but I think if it is not a thing that you experience, I would tread with a lot of caution and find a beta reader or sensitivity reader with these experiences who is comfortable talking about this with you.

Re: Aroace - there are people who are asexual and aromantic who have had pretty much every experience and identity alongside this. What makes a stereotype harmful is when:

They are the only representation.

They are not written as 3-dimensional characters with feelings and thoughts, identities and experiences that transcend these labels.

These can be countered by having more characters of the same identity who vary from the character you are concerned with, and making the characters all as multi-faceted as possible. You may not be able to explore every character's whole lives in depth in front of the reader, but to a reader, it still matters that this intricate life they have is implied and hinted at within the context.

But that is generally good writing advice, in my opinion. So many authors have characters that are written to fit a role within the life of the protagonist. Best friends are there to fawn over them and be supportive, but don't have hobbies or interests or an unrelated life thing going on offscreen. When you write, ask yourself, could someone feel inspired to write fanfiction of this character? Is there enough that they could put them in an AU and they would still be recognizably them? Or do they only exist by their relationship to the protagonist?

Sky: [suddenly comes to a stop behind them, raising his voice) "YOU WHAT!? You expect us to believe you can take on an archfaerie!?!?"

Nova: [growling, spins on his heel and warps to—]

Nova: [reappears directly in front of Sky, a whole foot taller and gripping the front of the faerie's shirt as he pulls their foreheads together]

Nova: [snarling, practically spits their words out) "stay behind if you want! Die! Because that's what's going to happen! I can save you if you come with me, but otherwise!?!?"

Nova: [can't help it as her rage—and snarl—breaks for despair—]

Nova: [turns their face away, releasing Sky's shirt to reappear in the spot they'd vanished from]

Nova: [doesn't finish what they had to say, crying silently as they instead hurry through the streets]

Faeries: [all holed up in their homes… whether because of the time, or the storm]

Storm: [rapidly growing into a whiteout blizzard, only breaking for flashes of lightning in the distance]

Air: [vibrating and crackling from the electricity, the magic storm, or both]

Cloud: [having taken Sky's hand in hers; voice quiet, but pained) "Sky… look." [points into the air, toward Nova's essence] "That's theirs. Even if they can't fight him… I think they can do something against him…"

Sky: [silent for a moment, but—]

Sky: [lets out a slow, shaky sigh]

Sky: (voice quiet and uneven) "why did you have to get us in this situation?"

Nova: [struggles to ignore them, feeling a wave of relief as they cross the last building of the town… though they still have some distance to go before they've escaped Kilrey's dominion]

Tremors: [slowly seeping from spreading from the air to the ground]

World: [violently rumbling; the air itself is vibrating and full of visible electricity while the ground quakes under the group's feet, breaking the cobblestone road they're trying to travel across]

Road: [except... while it cracks, it doesn't separate. Not until Nova passes. The pieces remain close enough together that the group's able to walk across it—even as it rises in the air and then scatters behind them]

Nova: [almost absentminded in her steps, confident in her magic's ability to keep the stones she needs in place to walk on. Instead, she focuses on collecting what magic she can from the environment and magically watching Kilrey close in on them]

Sky and Cloud: [behind her, use a mix of their own magics to help them hop between the separating stones and stay close behind Nova]

Cloud: [essence suddenly flickers further than before, flinging itself toward Nova—]

Nova: [tenses, immediately warping out of the way of the attack and flipping to face them, but—]

Cloud: [only created a small dome of clear air around them, granting them more visibility through the blizzard in their immediate area]

Cloud: [freezes at Nova's reaction]

Sky: [and tenses, putting himself between Cloud and Nova]

Electricity: [focused around them, sparking and flashing across the air, and making all of their hair stand up on end]

Nova: [heart pounding, looks between the two, the dome around them… and something not far behind the two.]

Kilrey: [catching up.]

Nova: [bites his tongue, tears swelling in his eyes]

Nova: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I ruin everything…

Nova: [with only a moment to think, envelops the three of them in his own essence and pulls them outside the bounds of Kilrey's dominion]

Group: [reforms with Sky and Cloud in the same positions as before, but behind—]

Nova: [facing the direction they'd just come from, much more drained from having pulled them all through another's dominion… but shielding the two air faeries with his own body]

Nova: (not even sure who he's pleading with) please don't stab me in the back… please don't make me regret trying to help you… I can't let more fae die because of me… so please don't make me die again…

Nova: (voice unsteady, but raised) "I'm going to take him on. Just run. Even if I can't stop him… you can get away. I'm sorry for getting you dragged into my problems…"

Cloud: (voice uneven) "I—"

Sky: [nope! Takes her hand in his and drags her along, trying to follow Nova's instructions advice]

Cloud: [hesitantly lets him pull her away, taking her clear-air dome with her]

Nova: [heart pounding, stares out toward the concentration of Kilrey's essence speeding toward her]

Nova: (to herself) … you've done this before. You can do it again, Mabh.

Nova:

Nova: [can't help a weak, pained laugh]

Nova: not that one, either… 😅

Rumbling: [suddenly spikes in strength as something speeds toward her—]

Nova: [tenses, quickly throwing up both their hands and a magical barrier to protect themself]

Snow and earth: [bursts forward and out from the ground, flinging itself toward them]

Nova: [skids backwards along with their barrier, wincing as they struggle to keep it from breaking—]

Suspended Snow: [falling in clumps from the air, reveals the faerie that'd punched through the blizzard like a bullet… Kilrey.]

Kilrey: [8 feet tall, almost twice Nova's height, and towering above them. Has far-too long limbs all covered in thick, dark brown fur and tangled plants; standing atop hooved, satyr-like legs; has stag-like antlers branching from an elongated face; and covered in moss and plants that're woven into his fur]

Kilrey: [grins widely as he looks down at Nova, eyeing them through the pink-tinted barrier]

Nova: [breathing heavy and struggling not to cry, but steadily stands back up straight, hands still crossed in front of her as she holds up the barrier]

Kilrey: (voice low, almost like a growl, and yet gleeful) "ah… you know, Silina tried lying about what you were…"

Nova: [still wincing, takes the opportunity to strengthen her barrier]

Nova: (to herself) no surprises there…

Kilrey: [reaches down, trying to shove his hand through the barrier]

Barrier: [blocks it just fine!]

Kilrey: [—monologue only interrupted by a laugh) "but when your essence built… I recognized you, Dhia…"

Nova: [winces, only now realizing their stuffing themself full of ambrosia backfired by making themself noticeable… while they'd gone in with such little essence in order to hide]

Kilrey: [as he spoke, tightened his furred hand—and essence—around her barrier]

Kilrey: [and, finally, shatters it in his palm]

Nova: [thrown back from the force of the collapse, skidding into the ground and getting buried into the snow]

Nova: [already incredibly drained, but… struggles to focus their essence on his, trying to find the weak points they'd noticed the last few times they'd tried this]

Kilrey: [as they did, leisurely walked through the snow, stopped in front of Nova, and finally leaned down to pick them up by the throat]

Nova: [half-gasps, half-sobs, grasping at his hands as though they had anywhere near enough strength to pry themself free]

Kilrey: [and all the while, smugly) "I can't believe you're still alive… I'd heard you died, Dhia."

Nova: [just stares up at the blizzard-tainted white sky, struggling to breathe and focus—]

Kilrey: [slowly begins sapping their magic, drawing out his words as he does) "let me relieve you of—"

Kilrey: [suddenly falls silent, the strength fading from his fingers]

Nova: [tears himself from Kilrey's grasp and falls to the ground, gasping for breath as they glare up at him]

Nova: [tightens their magic around his soul, snarling as best he can]

Nova: (words as strangled as his voice) "'relieve me of my power?' You piece of shit, you really think it'd work this time!? When everyone else has failed!?!? WHY ARE YOU ARCHFAE ALL SO FUCKING EGOTISTICAL!?"

Nova: [digs his essence into Kilrey's soul like knives, unsteadily rising to his feet and taking shaky steps toward Kilrey]

Nova: [had just needed him to let his guard down, to give them the chance to work their way through his protection]

Nova: [glares up at his blank face with a snarl… and tears still in his eyes]

Nova: (voice hard and hateful) "but I'm merciful. And you're useful. So here's what we're going to do. Kneel."

Kilrey: [face still empty, obliges. Lowers himself onto one knee, kneeling in front of them… and barely getting low enough that Nova can look down at him]

Nova: [reaches forward to grab him by his throat with a vicegrip and force him to meet her eyes]

Nova: [still snarling, all but spits) "you're going to go back and erase all memories that I was here! You're going to go back, tell Silina that I managed to escape you and fled South, make sure nobody leaves town for a week, and then you are going to forget all about me! You'll forget I exist, you'll forget I wiped your memories, and you'll FORGET YOURSELF!"

Nova: [left gasping for breath, glaring down at him with tear-filled eyes… before her face finally breaks]

Nova: [half-sobbing, brokenly) "understand?"

Kilrey: (tonelessly, breath slightly strangled… but only slightly) "yes."

Nova: [releases Kilrey's throat, taking a few shaky steps back]

Nova: (weakly) "good. I've given my commands. Now, fulfill them."

Nova: [finally releases their magic on him, letting her feet collapse under her]

Kilrey: [rises smoothly, then promptly twists on his heel to tread back into his dominion]

Nova: [cries softly, watching his back slowly get further and further from him… because the blizzard's largely died away, taking the whiteout with it]

Nova: it never works… won't you guys stop TRYING!?

Nova: [gasping for breath again, falls back to stare up at the beautiful, star-filled sky slowly shining through the fading blizzard]

Nova: … why couldn't I just be a normal faerie?

Nova: [closes his eyes, unable to stay conscious]

The 3 Star Trio

First official “promo” art for my fic, *Reassembled* Takes place after the end of the events of Security Breach and the Princess Quest ending. The problem is… these three, are not a family. Not at all. They aren’t even FRIENDS, save for Gregory and Freddy and even then, they’ve only known each other for a few hours under dire circumstances. And then you have Vanessa, whose guilt drives her to the point of feeling obligated to return the favor to the child that saved her (that she also tried to kill as Vanny, and berated as herself). As well as Freddy, whom she was INCREDIBLY hostile to and threaten to decommission if he was helping the child. So.. they shouldn’t even like her, right? So then how does this unlikely trio of traumatized misfits… become a family?

Important details

-this story is driven by the idea of my own “fragmented mind theory,” in which the glitchtrap virus created Vanny, the dark version of Vanessa, using a combination of trauma, intrusive thoughts, and perceived negative traits and amplifying them to an overwhelming degree. So they are, in many ways, the same person, but Vanny still would not exist without glitchtraps heavy influence

-the entire 3 star trio (pre-relationship 3 star fam) are autistic coded, and much of the actions and psychological implications is centered around this

-all of the characters are morally grey. There is no “Vanessa fully good and Vanny fully bad” shit. I’m not a fan. To me it’s way more nuanced and deserves to be explored as such

-the story will take place in 3 acts, with act 1 already complete and act 2 on the way :3

…And to think that I didn’t quite like the first episode and considered not watching the rest! Phileas Fogg turned out to be such a darling, so sad and so delightfully tormented. Yes, he’s not the Phileas Fogg from Jules Verne's book, cold-blooded and self-assured, but I gradually came to appreciate this version more. I have a thing for neurodivergent characters—and David Tennant always delivers :)
