laios and marcille are #1 falin fans and yet they both seem to fall into the pitfall of mistaking falin's carefree nature and monotone for a childishness innocence or ignorance

they do this for different reasons (laios seeing her as a younger sister, a child to be taken care of, even if she is now an adult who can and has taken care of herself) (marcille being existential about short-lived races and her loved ones) but it's so interesting to see, and it's just as interesting how falin takes it. just. as I watch the anime and refresh myself on the plot and characters after reading the manga. the way falin brushes over her own confusion over literally not knowing what happened, because everyone clearly would rather coddle her. she lets marcille help bathe her even if she's back to full strength (as a naturally powerful magic user) and apologizes to laios for something she doesn't remember she did, to make him feel better. she's a really interesting character

it’s been really fun for me as a manga-first dunmeshi enjoyer to see chilchuck’s popularity fuckin EXPLODE with the anime’s release. i don’t recall him being disliked before, but people were definitely less feral about him. i enjoy it. he deserves it

DUNGEON MESHI

We start off with this basic premise, at least in the show (I haven’t read the manga yet): Laios wants to eat monsters. He has a book on how to eat monsters.

And in episode one it is revealed that the book is completely and utterly wrong.

In comes Senshi. The book is academic knowledge, Senshi is lived expertise - he’s been eating monster for years. And so begins a beautiful friendship.

They do discover a lot of new stuff the “lore” contradicts, too, like the true nature of animated armor.

It’s really cool, is all.

I would love to see a fantasy novel where the lore that the reader / protagonist learns at first is not true
