Breakin’ Dishes

A/n: So I was listening to Breakin’ Dishes by Rihanna lately, and I think I wanna write about a brat. So this is kind of a scenario based on the imagine I wrote a day ago.

It was a mistake on your husband’s part, leaving you all alone at home like this.

THUNK! TINK! CRASH!

You throw another dish onto the floor, watching it break into a thousand pieces with a demented grin on your face. Shattered pieces join the rest of the broken porcelain.

You’ve been at this for the last thirty minutes. Why? Well, for one, you were stuck inside your house without a single key to get outside.

You've already tried the windows, throwing a chair at each one. Multiple times. They were fitted with reinforced ballistic glass, the same kind of material the government uses for cars transporting presidents. Courtesy of your stupid, controlling husband.

You have always been an indoors kind of person, but secondly you were spiraling from the lack of entertainment. No TV, no phone, no tablet, no computer–not even a game console.

“Those will pollute your mind,” your husband said, before he chucked them into the garbage can outside.

Yeah right.

You had to admit you understand the mindset for everything else, considering how controlled public information by the AI and whatnot, but as for the game console, your stupid husband was just jealous over your obsession with some handsome-looking enemy boss in one of your video games. You know it!

Remembering how much money you saved up to buy those games all going down the drain makes you chew on your bottom lip in frustration. The more you think about this injustice, the more the flames inside of your roars. You snatch some more dishes from the cupboards and smash them before stomping on the ground, wherever was clear of shattered porcelain, multiple times as you shriek your lungs out to the living room.

“I HATE YOU! I FUCKING HATE YOU! I'M GONNA DIVOR-”

“(Y/n)?”

Your voice leaves you as you slowly turn towards your beloved husband, who has just gotten home from grocery shopping. He sets the grocery bags down on the kitchen counter and comes over to wrap his arms around you.

You make a show of keeping your hands on his chest and pushing him away, but he knows you're just frustrated with him right now with how much strength you're putting into this. Much different from when he initially trapped you in this house. He has a little scar on the underside of his left jaw, from when you swiped at him with your nails.

He smiles at your cuteness and leans down to get his ‘welcome home’ kiss. You turn away. He shifts his head, and you turn again.

“Sweetheart?”

You turn your head again.

“(Y/nnnn)~ Gimme kiss. Kiss kiss.”

“Mm mm!” you hmphed, continuing to evade his kissing attempts.

“(Y/n). Give. Me. My kiss.”

“N-nyo! No kisses for you, stupid.”

He gathers all of your hair with one hand and pulls taut, forcing you to be still. Your eyes widen in shock before giving him a very displeased expression. That hurt! Now you definitely won't get any kisses! your face seems to say.

You can tell he's trying to keep a serious expression on his face, by the trembling of his lip and quirk of his brow, before it eventually breaks out into a grin and a chuckle. He pecks you on the lips before resting his forehead against yours.

“I love you, (Y/n),” he whispers, eyes full of adoration for you.

“I don't,” you snap.

He jerks at your hair, a warning. His smile stays on his face, but his eyes become a bit darker. “Hey… that's not nice, sweetheart. Say it back.”

“Say what back?”

His other hand playfully slaps your butt, making you flinch and almost moan before you swallow it immediately.

“Say you love me back, sweetheart.”

Of course, you love him. He's your YAN, literally designed for you to love and be loved by. Eternally. Everything he does is to win your affection. To understand you in all the ways another human couldn't possibly do. His existence depends on you.

But with the house arrest and destruction of your prized possessions, you're feeling less inclined to follow his whims.

“You love me back, sweetheart,” you repeat.

He chuckles and closes his eyes, shoulders quivering, before throwing his head back in laughter. Once he calms down, he presses his forehead against yours again, letting go of your hair to pull you close into a very tight hug.

“I do love you. So so much. I love you I love you I love you I love you. You know that, right?”

You purse your lips. “Yesh?”

“You know I had to throw it all away. I can't have your mind be eaten away by… indecency.”

Ah, so he knows what he did wrong but he's not apologizing.

“What? All of my games are PG-13!” you retort.

“One of them wasn't… What was it? Gold Seelie?”

“Golden Sphere,” you correct him. “Only because of the violence. It's not like I was going to turn violent and start killing people!”

“Oh… Really?” he teases, looking over your shoulder, most likely at the broken dishes on the floor.

“Your fault,” you spit.

He scoffs. “Sweetheart, we're both adults,” he says with a condescending tone. “You shouldn't be blaming others for your tantrum.”

“Your fault,” you insist, crossing your arms.

"(Y/n), we both know that's not true."

"....."

He hums, contemplative. “M’kay. My fault. I'm sorry, (Y/n).”

“For what?”

“I'm sorry for taking away your video games.”

“And?”

“And?” he repeats, confused.

You struggle to turn yourself around his tight embrace, facing away from him with your back to his front. Those who get it, get it. Those who don’t, don’t get any kisses. “Hmph!”

“I'm sorry for… taking away the TV and all of the other electronics?”

That isn't it. “Hmph!”

“I'm sorry for… locking you in the house? It's for your own safety, sweetheart.”

You still feel annoyed at that, but that's not it either. “Hmph!”

“(Y/nnnn). Give me a hint. Please. I can't stand it when you're mad at me and I can't do anything about it.”

You sigh. “... Stupid, we're married, aren't we?”

“Yes? Happily, I hope?”

“And married couples are supposed to do everything together…”

You could practically hear a lightbulb go off above your husband, much to your satisfaction.

“Ohhh. Were you lonely at home without me? Did I take too long? I'm sorry, (Y/n). Must’ve been boring at home without me. I’ll take you with me everywhere from now. I love you~”

He litters several kisses on the back of your head and neck. You giggle from how they tickle, grabbing onto his arms.

“Hey,” he pauses, “You still haven't said ‘I love you’ back yet.”

You hum playfully.

“(Y/nnnnn).”

“Hehe, I love you,” you finally said, turning your head to give him a kiss.

You push the broom and dustpan into his hands. “Your fault,” you state.

He chuckles, taking the items out of your hands. “I know. I’m sorry. Anything for you as long as you don’t divorce me.”

You purse your lips and squint your eyes, humming contemplatively.

A look of horror appears on his face. “S-sweetheart!?”

Don't get me wrong, I love canon Romania he's my favourite character ever but like. I love the idea of nyo Romania very much and tbf she should have been canon Ro.

And like. I think there are a lot of cool historical personalities that are girls in Romania's history too, for example Ecaterina Teodoroiu, princess Ileana, Smaranda Braescu, Marina Stirbey, Virginia Andreescu Haret, Ella Negruzzi, of course I cannot forget Nadia Comăneci, and the list can go on. Also technically she was not romanian but she was the queen of Romania, queen Marie of Romania (I wanna make a post about her but like. Read her wikipedia page its pretty interesting. She was even popular in other countries like America, even did a sort of tour/visit to America at one point! And like met the president of America at the time, Calvin Coolidge abd his wife Grace).

And also, her being a girl while a lot of characters that surround her are guys could kinda represent how she was often...different in a way, her being the only romance country in eastern europe*. Idk i'm just throwing ideas around

And like. Idk I think she'd be really pretty and I like girls okay. Also I think she'd have a cool personality idk I just think she'd be great.

*there are other eastern romance people, yes, such as the aromanians and megleno-romanians and others I think, but, sadly, they are in way smaller numbers than the romanians and do not have their own countries.

-Ąžuolas gets airsickness when flying in the plane. HE DOES LOVE VISITING OTHER COUNTRIES THOUGH but flying in the plane makes him feel nauseous. Good that he can teleport though, yea? :D Ofc, he's technically not SUPPOSED to TP into another country bc of things like,, visas n whatnot. But unless someone snitches, no authorities will ever know :P

-When Tatjana was in the hospital for a recent major surgery, there was someone visiting her & trying to make her laugh, at a point where it was still painful for her to speak, let alone *laugh* 🤦 they meant well, ofc. but still.. that hurts.. :(

-Raivis stims by stretching out his hair curls, fluttering his eyes, rocking side-to-side, rolling his eyes (he's not trying to be rude, i promise you! it's subconsious, and means absolutely nothing!), crossing his eyes, rubbing his hands together, clicking his pen (this drives Ąžuolas NUTS, but he tries not to say anything), whistling, shaking his head, etc. He toys with his bracelets, sits there are stares at the little dust particles floating around in the light, and loves to try and balance the light switch and watch the lights flicker in rooms (this also drives Ąžuolas absolutely BONKERS!!). He also likes to open and close the fridge door and just watch the light in there go on and off. And whenever he walks past any fences, trees, or bushes, he has to run his hands on them.

-Rebeka enjoys herbology, and likes to make potions :)

-Motega actually really dislikes pickles. He also doesn't rlly like sour stuff, but his reaction to tasting something sour is absolutely hilarious xD

-Both Motega & Kima really enjoy playing baseball, but they don't play it professionally

-If you go tipping Kateryna's cows, she'll tip YOU over next >:(

-Ąžuolas & Motega are gossip buddies.

-Ąžuėlis & Mote skype each other every night (or day), and just chat about general things, AND ALSO spew about whatever gossip they heard recently.

-Tanja is the type to make sure nobody who comes to her house will ever starve while they're there

-Raivis & Hafoca are QPR partners who have sleepovers as often as they are able, give each other "tattoos" with markers, cuddle on the sofa watching cartoons, etc.

-Anastazy has two yappy pomeranians who will bark at literally anything & everything, and somehow ALWAYS know when he spills his drink or drops his food/snack.

-If you were to read Jomari's diary, you will see several hand-written articles in full-detail about his encounters with mythical sea-creatures, which might not be so "mythical" afterall..?

-Hiraya is an AMAZING cook. Could go professional if she ever wanted to. She makes god-tier halo-halo, puto, & pan de coco.

-Hafoca's favorite drinks are apple juice, yogurt smoothie, & coca-cola

-Madam Chaikova has a itty-bitty black cat that is missing one eye. Her name is Rybka, and she helps her with alchemy <3 and, unlike her MOMMY, she is a very sweet lil' cat (madam chaikova is a grouchy old lady lol)

-Anastazy doesn't know what to do with flowers when they are given to him, so he just eats them 🤦

-Björk really does not like to go swimming, because ✨ insecurities ✨

-Karling is the type who gets to go on a vacation once per summer (so jealous fr)

-Ąžuolas plays basketball as a recreational activity. Also, he gets really into it when watching basketball on the tv. He be yelling at the tv screen and everything

-If you have to confess something to Tatjana, DO NOT approach her with an "I have to tell something to you, but pls don't be angry 🥺 ", because if that's the first thing you say to her, she will already be heavily suspicious, and also way more likely to get mad if you tell her something slightly anger-inducing.

-Raivis can see ghosts, but he's been seeing them for so long, he is too used to them to get scared. He knows every ghost that lives in his apartment building by 1st & last name, age, gender, and appearance. And, if one of his plates suddenly crash onto the floor for seemingly no reason, he knows exactly who is to blame for it.

-Rebeka loves boba tea. Also, her favorite candies are always chocolates. Also, she tries to cook & make concoctions, but it always gets really messy. She does try to clean up after herself though, but she still manages to leave something behind, proving that she's been up to something

-Kateryna grows corn, wheat, & soybeans in her farm, and also has some apple trees.

-Motega isn't really too much into drinking, but he may have an occasional drink during social occasions. Also, he's slightly addicted to energy drinks. And when it comes to pepsi vs coca-cola, he is 100% with coca-cola, but his boyfriend ĄŽUĖLIS prefers pepsi >:(( But they both love cream soda tho

-Kima has a dog; she's a pitbull/rottweiler mix named Brownie. Brownie, despite being a big & muscular dog, thinks she's a lapdog and has a habit of jumping up into EVERYONE's laps, even guests. Also, headcanon Eng.land screams like a little girl every time that dog jumps on him 😂

-Jomari is an ocean fisherman. He's been in this profession for a long time, too, so he even knows how to handle the types of sea creatures everyone is afraid of, such as sharks, squids, crabs, etc. He knows the best spots to catch the most fish, and the best methods for getting them. Also, he ironically owns & wears this hat:

-Hiraya owns a motorcycle, but she still uses public transport sometimes.

-At some point, Hafoca was in archery classes. He was the top student in these classes, but he was always incapable of taking compliments/praise from others 😂

-Madam Chaikova has very granny-type hobbies, such as; knitting, embroidering, gardening, baking, reading, birdwatching, crotcheting, hiking, quilting, alchemy (potion-making), witchcraft, etc.

-Anastazy drives a motorcycle. And, there have been many occasions where some assholes stole his motorcycle despite him using a lock for it, but he has always managed to report it & get his motorcycle back. But in the meantime while his motorcycle was missing, he'd carpool with Ąžuėlis.

-Björk is the type who always oversleeps & is grouchy when she wakes up, and also gets difficult whenever someone tries to get her up. But then, when she wakes up & sees the time, she freaks out and is like, "OMG NOR.WAY!!! WHY DID YOU NOT WAKE ME UP?!?!" whilst she runs around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to hurry up & get ready. Also, she always has messy hair due to her usually waking up late & not even having time to brush her hair a bit, let alone style it in any way. There have even been a few times when she showed up mildly smelly, bc she was in such a rush that she forgot to put on deodorant 😭 She's always atleast a little bit late to wherever she was going, too 😂

-Kaishek is the type of kid who takes his nintendo switch with him everywhere

Names with "-chen" are diminutives, so Julchen would be like a pet name or childhood nickname of Julia. And I like your AU! I usually like meshing canon and nyos together since the different perspectives are fun to play with. Like you said with the misogyny and patriarchy, it's interesting to think about how some of the nyos would navigate that, being women but also being immortal nation-people. I don't usually see them as siblings of the canon, but I also don't headcanon most of any of them to be related like by DNA.

I was actually thinking about the au while I froze to death worked today and I think I actually like the idea of the hetas and nyos being these “creatures” that just happen to have certain similarities and share the same title and role as the other. Some take on a sibling relationship because it’s easier and maybe they’re that close (the Americas) while others prefer a more professional relationship akin to a business partnership (the Japans). They’re just two halves of one whole. They are one person, just split apart. But they’re also their own person. Idk if this makes sense, but I think it fits their weird nature so I’m going for it anyway. It’s just something regarded as bizarre but perfectly normal so they don’t question it. They’re probably apart for the majority of the time though, only meeting for extended periods of time for important work related stuff.

I kind of wanna think more about how the nyos got around all the misogyny and patriarchal bs more so that’ll probably be a different post in the future :)

hi same anon as before, but i get u i really do. i'm also a writer (tho i don't post any of my stuff) and i'm literally worried that i write my own ocs as occ lol. but i think that's the great thing about hetalia, the source material doesn't exactly give us that much to work with, so technically nothing is actually occ. as for suggestions for the stalker au...honestly i just wanna see more of canada. he's so sexy when he's crazy like that. i'm also just a fan of the shy guy who's secretly a freak archetype. oh and i don't know if you'd ever write for him, but romania has so much potential for the stalker au.

It's been at while i really don't know what's going on, ilang araw ilang lingo pa ba tayong ganito hindi ko na kaya gabi gabi nalang di ko ako makatulog ng hindi umiiyak haha gabi gabi nalang kada suaubukan kong matulog pulit ulit akong nanaginip. Hindi ko natalaga maintindhan love bat ganito bat kelangan kong lumayo sayo. Tapos eto umabot sa ganitong sitwasyon sabi ko sayo ayoko ng ganyan ung iba mag hahatid or susundo sayo, hindi sa wala akong tiwala sayo o pinipigilan kitang makipag kaibigan, ang akin lang trabaho ko kasi dapat yan, ako dapat yan.

Hindi ko na alam gagawin ko gustong gusto kita kausapin gustong gusto ko ayusin lahat, pero bakit ganito bkit parang mas lalo kang lumalayo, ganon mo ba ka gusto na mawala ako sa buhay mo? Grabe na ung pag taboy mo sakin wala naman akong ibang gustong gawin kundi mayos lahat. Pati mga guard at tricycle driver sa labas nyo sinasabihan na ko na may ibang nag hahatid sayo. oh woah what's nyo ireland and nyo england's relationship like in the modern times? do they try to reach out to each other? and wow the mommy issues that nyo england's kids are gonna inherit

Ahsnfbf I didn't want to say because I've probably already blabbed about it too much at this point but yes absolutely mummy issues abound there. I guess it's up to the individual how far you take it, because it can get pretty dark if left unchecked.

My favourite dynamic in Hetalia is the push and pull for these guys who are nations vs who they are as people. You can't live as long as they do without forming opinions which run contradictory to what your government or even the majority of your people believe in. So for the kids they have that push and pull of 'that's my mum' versus 'my mum is the figurehead of something terrible' versus 'I'm part of something terrible'... so messy.

And yet the woman for the longest time refuses to disentangle them, or ask others to do the hard work for her.

In this au, no one is related. It primary focuses on the bad friends trio, mainly Marianne who studies to be a french teacher. She has hourglass figure with big tits and butt. She is more on the curvy side but most people find her stunning and she radiates confidence. She specially likes to bake for her friends and people around her. Since she's great with makeup as well, she likes to use Julia as a doll. Julia actually loves it because no one would ever do that with her before and Marianne teaches her make up tips.  Amelia is dating Sakura and they're pretty much the only ones in this au that are strictly monogamous and lesbians (at first at least). Amelia is quite jealous of Marianne and disapproves of her lifestyle. She doesn't hide her opinions about her either to the point Amelia would bully Marianne despite Marianne being nothing but sweet to Amelia.

While Marianne stays cool in front of Amelia's bullying, she comes back home crying. Carmen and Julia comfort her by holding her and listening to her vent about it. Julia swears she would fight Amelia next time she sees her. No one makes her friend cry like that. Carmen makes sure Marianne stay hydrated and has enough tissues for her tears. She would even bring a small glass of wine for her. Marianne uses her shoulder to cry on. She thinks Carmen's warmth is very comforting and Carmen copies what Marianne does to comfort her by gently running her hand in her hair.

Next time Julia sees Amelia, it doesn't go as Julia planned. She starts to confront her about bullying her friend but Amelia ignored her. "I don't listen to creepy guys who makes people believe he's a woman when he's just a creep using women's bathroom to look at women."

Eli, Sakura and sometimes Madeline take some times to sit down and drink tea together. Madeline is shy at first, but Sakura and Elizabeth both make her feel welcomed.Madeline is a bit jealous that Sakura has a girlfriend and Elizabeth has lovers. She has troubles making friends outside of her roommates and would like a partner to cuddle with. She often confines herself in her room, especially when Amelia or Elizabeth's friends are over. Both Madeline and Elizabeth find Amelia way too loud anyway. Since Sakura notices this, she would either bring Amelia to her bedroom or they would hang out at Amelia’s apartment.

More rage filled Julia's whole body when she hears Amelia openly misgenders and bullies her like that. Usually, she ignores that kind of comments, but giving her a piece of her mind with her first was all Julia is thinking about at the moment. Sakura who followed her girlfriend this time keeps quiet but grimaces worryingly watching the scene. Julia doesn't hesitate to push Amelia against the brick wall of the university building and keeps her lock with her arm on the top of her chest. Julia spits to her face and pushes Amelia on the ground, scratching her arm in the process.

"That's how much respect you deserve, you dick!" Julia turns around and leaves furiously. It took both Amelia and Sakura by surprised since it happened so quickly. Sakura helps her girlfriend back up, who aggressively pushes her away when Amelia is back on her feet again. She secretly plans her revenge as she watches Julia walks away.

That kind of stuff isn’t a rare occurrence for Sakura. She has been dating Amelia for a year and in the last few months, Amelia started showing more aggressiveness and hatred toward other people. To Sakura, Amelia was the sweetest girlfriend, but seeing her girlfriend behaves like that to other people, Sakura has very conflicted feelings. She loves her, but she can’t stand how she treat other people and absolutely hates how Amelia treats Marianne and Julia. She came home that afternoon, after class, crying. She feels too scared to stand up to her girlfriend about the way she acts. She’s scared she’d hurt her too. 

Fortunately, Elizabeth is home drinking tea in front of the tv when Sakura got home. Madeline is too, but in her room. While Elizabeth isn’t the best at guessing people’s feelings, she notices her roommate is clearly upset. Sakura doesn’t even bother going to her room. She sits on the couch, a feet away from Elizabeth and grabbed her knees. Elizabeth feels awkward since she doesn’t know what to do. She wants to comfort her friend, but how? She ends the awkward silence by offering her a cup of tea, which Sakura accepts. After making that cup of tea the way Sakura likes, Elizabeth hands it to her and asks if she needs to talk.

Separating this because I wanna talk about Monika, Veronika and Johanna a little.

When she has free time, she visits the language faculty’s library to strengthen her italian since she didn’t speak or practice it since high school. She wants to maintain her skills. One of the other reason Veronika visits the languages’ faculty’s library is because she sometimes sees a very pretty girl with short blond hair working on her school works and browsing languages books. She’s sometimes accompanied by other people, probably her classmates. 

So while they’re all german speaking, Monika especially has troubles understanding Veronika’s accent in german. It kinda frustrates Veronika so she resigned herself to speak english when she has to, because she wouldn’t speak to her roommates most of the time. Monika doesn’t mind since Veronika can be scary when she’s on her period. She was closed to break Johanna’s violin once because she couldn’t stand the sounds of it anymore. Monika stopped her, fortunately for Johanna’s violin, but unfortunately for Monika, Veronika got mad at her and broke her forearm. Considering that Monika works out often and is a bit muscle, that was quite an accomplishment. So yeah, she can be scary. After that incident, they leave her alone.

Veronika actually wishes she could move out with other people. She acts mad and hostile mostly because what Monika said to her when they first met hurt her. Usually, she would prefer going home when her classes are over but because of Johanna’s constant music practice and simply being in he same place as Monika, she’d rather do homework and write her essays at the library.

One monday evening after finishing her assignments, Veronika is browsing books on italian grammar. She's mostly bored and doesn't want to go home yet. She was hoping to see the pretty girl, but she is nowhere in sight. She loses focus on what book she was searching for and runs her fingers on the hard covers, losing herself in thoughts. Thoughts she wishes she wouldn't have and that no one would ever find out about.

Next thing Veronika knows is that she hit her head on someone else's. She was about to get real mad at the person until she sees who it was.

"oh gosh! I'm so sorry. I didn't see you. Are you ok?" Laura asks.

MY LONGASS ANSWER GOT ATE SO the tl;dr ver. of what I was GOING to say before Tumblr said nah: I do like Edelgard’s character, but the writing that tends to surround it dilutes how good she could have been. Edelgard’s character, as is, for the most part, I have no issues with as a villainous character and in fact can find myself enjoying pretty easily, but the game has too many moments that try to force the player to feel bad about her - not because of who she is as a character, but because sometimes other characters (most of whom having little to no connection with Edelgard) say she totally isn’t all bad and really more like us than it seems, and Edelgard is now totally not all bad and really more like us than it seems. 

Which isn’t true. Most of the cast wouldn’t wage war on an overall peaceful continent. Most of the cast wouldn’t outright admit pointblank to being willing to sacrifice the lives of those under their care to achieve some “greater cause” - in fact the other two lords of the game outright and explicitly reject that notion. Most of the cast isn’t willing to kill their friends if they try to stop them from committing horrible, morally reprehensible crimes such as grave-robbing... well, any resting place, really. Most of the cast aren’t willing to use the people under their care as meat shields to hide behind as they hole themselves away in the safety of their nice fancy throne room. Most of the cast aren’t willing to specifically order one of their supposed friends to man a ballista on a hill that is specifically rigged to be set on fire should any enemy try to take it. Most of the cast aren’t willing to use Demonic Beasts as tools. Most of the cast isn’t willing to hide and work with a sect of murderous people set on killing everyone who isn’t them in order to use their cool technology (which includes Demonic Beasts). 

Along with all of the other things Edelgard does that nearly no one else is willing to do due to the horrific nature of the action in question. But the game never addresses these actions in full at any point. The closest we come to accountability being put on Edelgard is, again, AM, and it does an overall fine job at it, but even that route doesn’t acknowledge the true depths of all that Edelgard has done - notice how even AM never brings up the use of Demonic Beasts, which has absolutely no moral justification, just like no other route brings it up, because it’s objectively bad that she’s willing to use them and so it cannot be brought up ever.

And. Just. Byleth. Holy shit, among all the characters that Byleth drags down, Edelgard is the biggest fuckin’ victim. She becomes this lil’ baby back bitch who can’t stand to attack her pwecious teacher who she weally wikes to draw and she has such a big cwush on them and she needs them to get ~softened~ but omg they saw her dwawing!! //>~<// So embbawwasing!! And oh nyo!! >m< Scawy wats!! But Edelgard just sounds adorable when she screams, right guys? You can say it twice, that’s how cute it is! Not a creep move to make at all!

Byleth makes Edelgard a complete and utter embarrassment. Edelgard needs Byleth, Edelgard’s weak to Byleth, Edelgard’s so soft to Byleth - which is all a good thing, apparently! 

Like, you see what I mean? A lot of my faults with Edelgard aren’t actually with Edelgard - she’s a villain, and so I view her actions through a villainous lens, and in doing so I think she’s fine, for the most part. More than fine, really! She, as her base character with very minimal changes, can make a damn good villain if allowed! But it’s the game having so many moments that try to remind you that she’s this good girly who just does fucked up things sometimes, in the same way that Dimitri and Claude are good boyos who just do fucked up things sometimes, and in doing so they end up severely downplaying just how bad she is... which in turn ends up having a large, laaaarge portion of the fandom either deliberately downplaying her actions/overplaying Dimitri and Claude’s (and Rhea’s oh boy Rhea’s) actions or just deadass not acknowledging the actions in the first place in order to make her stand with the other good guys of the game.

That, primarily, is what shits in my cereal about Edelgard. I really really really want to like her route, for example, because of the idea of “overt tones = Protagonist good, undertones = Protagonist bad” being so appealing to me, but it’s ruined by the knowledge I have that the game actually will try to make Edelgard better than she is. Is CF supposed to be this propaganda route that tricks the player into seeing Edelgard as the good guy via the nice words and the powerful protagonist, or is it supposed to be something that’s actually, genuinely trying to make Edelgard a good guy by, this time, deliberately hiding her actions and now straight up changing the story to erase some of her more egregious ones (mainly what she does with Dimitri)? I wanna say the former! But the narrative ends up muckin’ up that idea, if that is what they were going for.

I'm gonna answer this one first so it isn't answered in the next one. ew / nonono / maybe / ship it / aww / otp / MY HEART this is my main thing. we all know this. i don't even know where to start!! i'm going to try to do a cut here because WOW this turned out to be long well ok first thing's first, my gilbert is pretty canon divergent. he's an old bastard, as a lot of them now are, esp the balts in general so like. this different background affects him a lot, and he was pretty antagonistic towards roderich in the beginning? austria helped in the northern crusades after all, but gilbert Did learn not to hold that against everyone fairly quickly. still, that's their first meeting. they kinda just didn't give too much of a damn about each other until prussia's independence in 1657. gil now had to actually live with his husband, whom he detested. so he just... enthusiastically volunteered to go to austria's court as an extra representative. the other reps (minden, mark, cleves, etc) were needed in their own territories. while brandenburg was the one with the elector's seat, he was also the more "important" one of the two soooo... gil got away! this leads to gilbert thinking that roderich is a safe place, because, comparatively, he is. they're both in their mid/late teens at this point and do develop an attachment to each other. gilbert has his first crush on a dude, and roderich... sees a way to piss antonio off lmfao. gil gets his teenage joker gilcel moment when roderich tries to make things happen again with toni, but does wrestle a kingdom title out of it by helping rod. still in joker mode, silesian wars happen. they hate each other, though gil does just become a bit more apathetic to roderich during this time. after this, he's Not A Fan of roderich at all, until the polish partitions. working with two people to get your sister's (nyo!prussia, maria) birthplace back does that to a man. it was a tense friendship, and roderich got his own taste of unrequited love, since gilbert was head over heels w fritz at the time. they grow closer during the napoleonic wars, and gilbert is seeking comfort to fill in the hole in his heart from fritz's death, as well as the sheer humiliation he felt from losing so much to france. thus! the battle of leipzig is where i have their first kiss :) totally spur of the moment, definitely awkward afterwards. their relationship grows more official as the demand for a unified germany grew. tbh i can't say anything too certain abt how the germany twins (monika and ludwig) came about because this isn't my era, but this relationship did end in the custody battle that gilbert won. ... he also eloped with romania in the middle of this. what can i say? he was pissed! he was even more angered at the austro-hungarian marriage. at the end of wwi, all of that crumbled apart, though, and gilbert returned to roderich with his tail between his legs and they started anew. they kept in good contact during his days in the DDR (for the circumstances), though they were able to talk less and less as the years went on. international affairs such as the olympics were treasured by them as gilbert was able to meet up freely with roderich there. their relationship was definitely tense at that point-- gilbert feared roderich going back to toni, and roderich feared gilbert going back to romania-- and, well. drunken and not-so-drunken mistakes happen. they worked past it! present day, they have their son, kugelmugel (leopold) and gilbert lives 50/50 between potsdam and vienna, though he is able to spend more time with his family now that remote work is an option. he represents the state of brandenburg, so he and roderich have a nice relationship that isn't strained by any impending death lmfao. the stars were totally crossed against them, but they made it work, damn it!!!!

First and foremost I want to say some of my favourite hetalia writing has been done for the Gods AU that is/was a shared baby between Hoof, Eden and myself (with a few pieces by some very kind babysitters over the years as well). It’s a heavily engport-centric AU, where Portugal (Lusus) is the God of the Underworld and England (Albion) his somewhat volatile spouse. It’s an ensemble cast and most of the characters are deities of some kind, and is heavy on pretty scenery, stupid families, and tragic love. Also there’s a bunch of fluff and ancient historical/mythological-style smut - in both writing and art. (The art, obviously, is Very Not Mine.)

Honestly, this one just made the list because it’s got one of my favourite stupid endings to a fruk fic I’ve written. These two old farts will bicker about anything, and they’re both so smug whenever they feel like they’re ‘winning’ - it makes it even more fun to write about them cocking up.

      For A Muse of Fire: I’m cheating, because this is my F!England Nationverse collection, but all of its works are very dear to me one way or another. Particular favourites for me though are:

One of my tags on AO3 for this fic is ‘there’s a war on in the background and you wouldn’t be able to tell’, and that’s about everything you need to know about this fic after the pretty clothes, outdoor sex, and fluff.

Queen of the Golden River:  Hong Kong, Peking, Calcutta, Suez, Paris and London. 1859-1861. It shouldn’t be so difficult to throw a grand Christmas party for everyone, should it, not if you are the glorious empire that rules the world?

Open relationships (the fruk in this are engaged to be married as a power alliance, but F!England is dating/sleeping with F!Prussia, and France is sleeping with America. Everyone knows and consents to this).

A supernatural AU based upon a switch of canon Halloween costumes between Japan and England.

Vampire!Kiku adapts to suddenly becoming a vampire, and befriends baby kitsune!Arthur.

I don’t have a wordcount for these because I’ve not crossposted them to AO3 (yet) but they’re both just short pieces of fluff.

      Nothing Can Hurt You Here: a spaport oneshot I wrote as a gift for Trevo and Lunie for their Game of Thrones AU. Lunie has since wiped her stuff, I think, but Trevo’s tag for the AU still exists.

I wanna add more to this story before it ever makes it to AO3, but it’s very far down my priorities, and I am intensely proud of everything there is for it already. (Also I think the NedEng parts are hot. /SHRUG)
