So I've officially become a ticking time bomb lmao (I wish I was joking but this isn't much of a stretch)

Almost exactly a week ago my heart rate randomly spiked to about 120 BPM while I was crossing a footbridge on my campus and it almost laid my ass out. I had my first solo ER experience (and surprised the nurses with how thorough I am at describing my medical history and symptoms (basically I got a good grade in ER)) but they basically told me to go home when it became evident my heart wasn't gonna immediately explode and that they couldn't do anything for me. So I got discharged 2.5 hours later with the number to the cardiologist office and instructions to get an appointment in 2-3 days.

And that appointment (that took for FUCKING EVER to schedule) ended with the doc being like "It's anxiety 😀" and me wanting to kill him because the testing he scheduled was 2 weeks out and I was still, 3 days later, having issues with my heart rate flying into the 110s and dropping into the 60s at random.

So I bitched to my mother and she got concerned (which is uncharacteristic for her when I bitch about medical things because 25 years of working in healthcare and 50+ years of being chronically ill will do that to you) so I decided to take matters into my own hands and move up the one test I didn't need a doc for.

So now I'm attached to a heart rate monitor for the next 5 days to map my currently very fucky fluctuations in heart rate.

But! The new ones are very unobtrusive! It's basically the size of a thumb drive and attached by one sticker. I can even shower or swim if I wanted to with it on. I press a button when ever I feel symptoms and it flags the report for the doc to see. Kinda cool even though this shit sucks.

I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

I love libraries.

I'm browsing the WWI shelves (as you do) and notice a very old book about the war. I glance at the first pages that talk about how one day the war will be over and we'll look at this place and not see any signs of the battlefield.

Then it hits me. And I check the publishing date.

This book was printed before the war's end. Not written. Printed. The physical object was created in 1918, while the war in question was raging and the end was as yet uncertain.

Now I'm standing on the other side of the apocalypse, with this physical link to that era in my hands. I'm living proof that the war did end and life did go on and we can all look at the end of the world as a long-ago memory.

Reading old books is cool enough, connecting our minds and hearts through the ideas of people who lived long ago, but there's something extra profound about holding a copy of the book that comes from the time that it was written. It's a physical link between the past and the present connecting me to those long-ago people. A piece of the past come into the future that gives me the chance to almost take the hand of some long-ago reader, to hold something they could have held, connecting not just mentally but physically to their era, a moment of connection across more than a century.

Trolling aside, i think there is some great importance as to why Gege chose this specific manner of panelling for the Yuji-Sukuna confrontation in JJK 264. We can't help but think that Gege's trying to show us some sort of a parallel between Gojo and Sukuna in this situation.

In JJK, there's this interesting notion of one's decision to go "North" or "South" as explained by Nanami during Gojo's death Flashback:

And we all know, that chapter of Gojo's death is titled as "Go South", which highly implies that Gojo chose to stay as who he was, as opposed to starting as something completely anew.

Now the interesting point in the Yuuji-Sukuna confrontation is that apparently...

....the destination for the supposed train within Yuuji's domain...is "North".

Which means that Yuuji's taking Sukuna towards the North.......

They're heading towards the North.....do you guys understand what that means?? For BOTH of them??? Q C Q

Okay, the farmhouse ark was awesome, and well done. It was beautiful.

But...

I think something hard to show was just how much pressure was put on Donnie at the time. First off, he blamed himself for Leo's comatose state, because he didn't want to leave the lair. No doubt he was beating himself up over that constantly (also his father "died" and he might have blamed that on himslef too). And he's also the default medic: everyone would have been looking to him for how to treat Leo, even if he had no idea how.

That's a lot to put on a guy who's just lost everything he ever knew, all his tools, two members of his family, his hometown, and probably has no internet connection to boot. Raph was keeping watch over Leo and wrapping his head around being temporarily in charge. Mikey was distracting himself with chores and activities, trying to keep everybody going.

Donnie was alone.

Trying to save a life.

With no recources to speak of and no one who could help.
