BL Challenge 2k24 ✨Day 4✨
Hello and welcome to @negrowhat's 15 Day BL Challenge! Full challenge can be found here.
Favorite Ship Dynamic: Sensitive Seme + Tortured Uke
I would like to thank @absolutebl for perfectly phrasing this dynamic in this post because it's an absolute favorite of mine. I love seeing someone who's been through the wringer finally get taken care of and loved by someone who adores them, I eat it up every single time.
To quote them directly, this dynamic consists of: An older sensitive sweetheart sunshine seme and a tortured dark scared tsundere uke.
Some of my favorite examples of this are:
King and Uea in Bed Friend

Alan and Jeff in Pit Babe

Prapai and Sky in Love in the Air

Runner Up: Black Cat + Golden Retriever
This dynamic is a very close second for me so I'm including it. It's just so fun. It brings me so much joy to see an aloof black cat of a person be loved to within an inch of their life by their golden retriever boyfriend who has zero chill about loving them.
Some of my favorite examples of this are:
Punn and Ashi in Be Mine Superstar

Li Cheng and Mu Ren in HIStory 4: Close to You

Always have soft spot for couple aligned with grief and guilt
Tumblr media
After JWDS I've found new hyperfixation that is Kim Mu Chan x Kwon Seok Joo from the (another) crime drama The Killing Vote.
About their grief and guilt, JW lives with guilt for the crime he didn't commit just because he's the police and the only son of that man. MC lives with guilt of be unable to catch the killer's accomplice, unable to save SJ's daughter. DS grieving for his twin sister and he even been accused for killing her, just like SJ, grieving for his daughter and accused for the crime he didn't commit. DS chose to become a cop to catch the murderer while SJ turned into the executor himself but anger and guilt consumed him because the accomplice (or the real killer?) is still out there.
For something brighter, there's some of their scenes that I like
Tumblr media
Compare to jwds, sjmc (can I call them that?) is the same but different. Everyone around jwds been aware of their "special" relationship even before them realised it, meanwhile with sjmc their relationship is so mysterious that makes everyone suspicious lol.

"Kim Seok Joo's No.1 Fan"
Seok Joo and his belief 😢
Tumblr media
*me every freaking time
Tumblr media
I swear 9/10 fanfics of them will have that 'hyung' thing just like 'juwon-ah' in jwds's fanfics and I already saw 2.
The drama only has 12 episodes but only 1 ep per week makes it seems super long and there were even no new ep the previous week. The film is already so underrated as it is *sign*

Opposites Attract - Kim Mu-Chan x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Synopsis: You like to play by the rules. Kim Mu-Chan likes to make his own. When you're paired together in Major Crimes it's a recipe for disaster. Or, will sparks fly?
Kim Mu-Chan did not work well with others; he never had, and after 37 years on this earth, he didn’t plan to start. He was well aware that police work heavily relied on working with a team, but in his experience, other people only held you back. He’d spent years fine tuning his skills, rising through the ranks to become Superintendent. He’d been forced to work with many officers he couldn’t stand, but had managed to build a small team of people who understood his methods, though it hadn’t been easy.
Mu-Chan knew criminals played dirty; they didn’t abide by the rules, so neither did he. Proving someone’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt sounded easy enough, but when the crooks he chased after were well versed in escaping, he was sometimes forced to play dirty. A little planted evidence here, a little intimidation there, and Mu-Chan always got the conviction he wanted. He knew they were guilty, and that was all that mattered. He was sick of lowlifes getting away with murder and assault, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. He was tired of having to tell victims and their families that they hadn’t been able to capture the person who had beaten them or had brutally murdered a loved one. Mu-Chan realised that he was damned if he did, and damned if he didn’t. If he caught the offender, the public criticised the force for not catching them quickly enough. If the assailant escaped justice, the police were lazy and useless. It was impossible to win when playing by the rules, so Mu-Chan made his own.
It was why he had to be so selective about his team members, making sure he picked people who understood why he did what he did. He couldn’t afford to have someone come in and unravel all his hard work, didn’t want some jumped up pencil pusher breathing down his neck. His team was a well-oiled machine that got results, locking up scum behind bars where they belonged.
You on the other hand were a stickler for the rules, your unyielding belief in the justice system carrying you through the ranks to Sergeant. You’d taken down the most monstrous of men, had arrested those guilty of crimes so heinous they kept you awake at night. You had no time for people who bent the rules, who took justice into their own hands.
Both you and Mu-Chan had protested profusely when you’d been assigned to his team, replacing his Sergeant who had recently retired. “I can’t work with him,” you’d begged the commissioner. “Kim Mu-Chan is a prick who thinks the rules don’t apply to him!”
“I can’t work with her,” Mu-Chan had snapped, “she’s got the rulebook shoved so far up her ass the pages hang out of her mouth.”
Neither of you were happy the day you transferred to Major Crimes. You glared at each other from across your desks, all too aware of the other’s reputations. You were both excellent officers, but so vastly different in your approach and ethics. Mu-Chan tried to bench you every chance you got, and you went above and beyond to prove that honest policework got better results than planting DNA.
“You drive me insane,” you’d hissed one night, the two of you stuck in a car together as you waited for a suspect to leave their house. “How can you sleep at night knowing you plant evidence?” “I only plant evidence when I know they’re guilty,” he snapped back, refusing to look at you. “How do you know they’re guilty if you plant evidence?” you cried, throwing your hands up in the air. You refused to make eye contact with him, your anger seeping through every pore of your body.
The longer you worked together, the more insufferable you found each other. But under the disdain and agitation, something else bubbled away. You refused to admit that his thick, dark hair, tall frame and chiselled features lit a fire in your belly, and Mu-Chan refused to admit your beauty, soft curves and intellect kept him awake at night. They say opposites attract, but you two drove each other crazy, occupying the other’s mind long after you’d headed home for the night.
You realised you’d need to find a way to channel your frustration, to take the irritation and budding attraction you felt towards Superintendent Kim and turn it into something positive. If you didn’t, you felt fairly sure you might explode and say or do something you’d regret.

Note
I've seen people mention that Sun Wukong got married or at least, one of the versions mentions that. It makes me wonder how it works because if we assume that Wukong was a monk's student, then why is there a version where he gets married? I also wanted to know a little more about that version you mentioned that Erlang was married
You might be talked about the Zaju play version which was an earlier version of the Sun Wukong we know today.
That version of Wukong is a vicious, perverted, stupid, cowardly version of Wukong that was actually formed to be the comedic relief (similar to how Bajie is considered the clown in Xiyouji) of the play and to be considered a clown to be laughed at rather than the intelligent, strong, and cunny Wukong we get in the Wu Cheng'en's version. In the Zaju version Wukong kidnapped himself a wife before he became a monk, Princess of the Golden Cauldron country, against her will I might add, and kept her as a trophy in his cave. He also makes several passes at other women like Princess Iron Fan and the Queen of Women's Kingdom in the play, and even Sanzang suggesting that the monk wants him for his "thin waist."
Tumblr media
Needless to say, this version is vastly different than the one that was created nearly 200 years after the play when Wu Cheng'en made Wukong to be more of a mischievous rascal rather than a full blown clown to be mocked by the audience. There have been no modern interpretations of this Sun Wukong as the Wu Cheng'en version is considered the 'canon' Wukong. The reason that Zaju at least make someone sense is that he got married before he was a Monk.
There are some media that does have Wukong with a wife but those are by different authors after Wukong completes his journey. Journey to the West Supplement has it that he married Princess Iron Fan in a dream. Journey to the South suggests that maybe Wukong marries as he has direct kids (assumed biological) but never mentions he has a wife actually. And of course some more modern media has that he has children without or without a wife being mentioned. Depends on what you are watching. And the best I can tell you is that those authors simply are asking that their audience give a little 'suspicion of disbelief' that I have talked about before for the sake of having the narrative flow. NO, it does NOT make sense and it CAN'T really work logically but rather than focusing on that, that plot point is largely ignored to continue the narrative. Such as Wukong just having kids and not mentioning a wife or simply never acknowledging how that doesn't make sense. I talked about that a bit when discussing Wukong's failed romances in media before as there are a lot of movies and shows where Wukong does have a SO but they are usually met with a death fate for the sake of continuity. So there are many versions where he does get married, even if none of them make continuity sense.
And yeah! Lotus Lantern Prequal 2009 was the one where Erlang Shen got married and divorced! It was made after the Lotus Lantern TV show 2005 which was such a hit it made this spinoff. I'll put a link for you if you want to see it! But it pretty much just follows Erlang Shen and his sister Sanseng Mu and how their lives led up to the Lotus Lantern 2005 show.
