So.... Stock image
https://www.vecteezy.com/vector-art/11430941-halloween-black-silhouette-repeating-border
[Referencing this post!]
Yuuup, that’s pretty much the same thing as what we see in the PV… 😅 Same shapes, same pattern order, everything.
Upon further research, it seems this isn’t even the first instance of this stock asset being used by Disney. It was also used for a limited edition Sally-inspired perfume called Rag Doll. I believe it was sold at Hot Topic back in 2013:
It’s a little saddening seeing TWST use stock images instead of like… you know, new assets 💦 This is following a somewhat disappointing trend of TWST animated PVs going down in quality and budget, especially over the years. For example, for the anniversaries:
2021 - 2 minutes long; all students included in highly individualized limited event outfits and movement is dynamic.
2022 - 1 minute long; all students and even staff are included but in standard uniforms, noticeable drop in art and animation quality (for example, look at Kalim and Silver in the flight scene). Animation itself is framed like Yuu is taking pictures of everyone—but really, it’s a convenient excuse to hold on static shots of the photos instead of actually animating them.
2023 - 1 minute and ~40 seconds; only the third years in their school uniforms and Grim in ceremonial robes are featured. Animation appears slow and somewhat clunky. And dear god, that weird panning shot of Malleus and Lilia; that Lilia is practically traced from his live 2D model.
2024 - 1 minute and ~10 seconds; basically a glorified slideshow with fancy effects. Only the dorm leaders in their school uniforms are shown.
Then, looking at the Halloweens:
Terror is Trending - 30 seconds; All students included and dorm costumes showcased. Unique shots and framing. Even Ramshackle Ghosts (who are important in the event story) are shown.
Endless Halloween Night - 4 different versions of the same commercial (including different characters doing the voiceover work), each ~30 seconds each; all students featured. Nice lighting, fierce expressions, varied framing.
Glorious Masquerade - 1 minute and 30 seconds. Several static panning shots, but at least the colors are striking when most other things are monochrome or muted. ~20 seconds at the end dedicated to hyping up Rollo.
Stage in Playful Land - ~35 seconds. Only the 3 SSR boys are featured, with most of the animation being in their head tilts. Less than 10 seconds is dedicated to hyping up Fellow and Gidel.
This year’s event… 20 seconds using a stock image and panning up from it to the TWST logo, no new assets.
I DON’T KNOW, maybe I’m overthinking it 😭 I’m definitely not the first person to notice this though… It’s been a point of discussion in my fandom social circles.
But hey, let’s keep our heads high! It’s very possible that we’ll get a more formal animated PV in the weeks leading up to Halloween. In fact, I’m certain of it since this current PV doesn’t show new costumes or the new twisted character, as is tradition. What we see now might just be a bonus material they’re releasing to really get us excited. Plus, we’ll probably also have an ABEMA stream with more Halloween-related news ^^ Let’s look forward to that!

Why certain people capture the spotlight?⭐️
1. The luminaries, the Sun and Moon naturally draw attention in a birth chart. People with strong Sun or Moon placements tend to light up any room they enter, effortlessly standing out.
Just like everyone loves capturing the beauty of a sunrise or the glow of a full moon, those with these placements have a magnetic energy that people can’t help but notice.
It’s almost like they’re always in the spotlight, which is why they often feel the need to look their best.☀️🌕
Beyoncé, Purva Phalguni Sun, Chitra Lagna and Venus.
Michael Jackson, Magha Sun and Shatabhisha Lagna.
Bella Hadid, Purva Phalguni Moon and Lagna.
There's not much to say about Beyoncé and Michael that isn't already well-known—they're icons in their own right, the biggest stars of our time. Bella Hadid has become the most photographed model off-duty and in 2022, she was named Model of the Year.
Gia Carangi, often hailed as the first true supermodel, paved the way for all the other supermodels that followed. She had a Shravana Sun and Lagnesh, with Hasta as her Lagna and a Shatabhisha Moon.
Britney Spears, Shravana Moon, was one of the most photographed stars for a while. The crazy amount of media attention even led to harassment and really affected her mental health.
Gisele Bündchen, Pushya Sun and Purva Phalguni Lagna, the only "Ubermodel"-that means being more than a supermodel.
Lauren Hutton, Pushya Moon and Lagna, holds the record for the most Vogue covers—26 in total.
I previously explored about how lunar-dominant people often achieve significant success on social media.
2. Chitra Nakshatra, known as the "Star of Opportunity," carries the Shakti of "accumulating merit." The word "Chitra" translates to "wonderful" and "pleasing to look at," as well as "illusion."
The deity of this nakshatra is Tvastar, the celestial architect who designed the universe. The symbol of Chitra is the "pearl" or "bright jewel," symbolizing beauty and uniqueness.💎💍
"Chitra" also means "picture," so individuals with this nakshatra are often naturally photogenic. 📸Tvastar, as the creator of Maya (illusion), grants those under Chitra the ability to craft captivating personas, making them talented models, photographers, actors, and successful on social media.
Kim Kardashian, Chitra Sun, built a career centered on her image. As one of the first influencers, she's become one of the most prominent and influential figures on social media. In 2015, she released “Selfish”, a book featuring a collection of her selfies.
Cindy Kimberly, Chitra Moon and Shravana Lagna, shot to fame because of her striking beauty. Her big break came when Justin Bieber posted about her on his Instagram. Now, she’s a major beauty influencer and a well-known model.
Anna Nicole Smith, Chitra Sun and Hasta Moon, made a name for herself as a model, completely based on her image. She was once one of the most photographed women in the world, and photographers loved working with her, often saying she was one of the easiest and most exciting people to capture on camera.
The thing with Chitra individuals is that, because of Tvastar, the celestial craftsman, their features often become iconic. For instance, Kim drew the attention to the BBL, Cindy’s nose has become a major inspiration for many women, and Anna Nicole brought attention back to curvy bodies at a time when the "heroin chic" look was in vogue, reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe's era.
3. Dhanishtha🌟 Shakti is "power to give abundance and fame," meaning "the most famous," "the most heard of." This nakshatra is recurring in the charts of people who usually marry famous individuals, making them well-known as well, often attracting more attention than their partner.
Princess Diana, Dhanishtha Moon and Magha Lagnesh, was the most photographed woman in the world, holding the record for the most sold-out paparazzi pictures, including one that sold for 6 million dollars.
Marilyn Monroe, Rohini Sun, Dhanishtha Moon, and Ashlesha Lagna, was also one of the most photographed women of her time.
4. Shatabhisha, meaning "hundred stars" and represented by a veiled star and an empty circle, is a nakshatra ruled by Rahu. ⭕️
This nakshatra is associated with illusion, the power to effect radical change, innovation, the foreign, esoteric influences, and trends. The empty circle can also symbolize the idea of a cult or community, like the Navy for Rihanna.
Rihanna, Shatabhisha Sun, stands out as one of the most influential artists and fashion icons. She has consistently set trends in the fashion world, with her style serving as an inspiration to many. Recently, her maternity looks have redefined how celebrities approach their appearance during pregnancy, bringing a stylish twist to the norm.
Demi Moore, Lagnesh in Shravana and Jupiter in Shatabhisha in the first house, set a trend for nude pregnancy photoshoots. At the time, this was quite controversial, but it has since become a common practice not just among celebrities, but also for non-celebrity women.
Elizabeth Taylor, Sun in Shatabhisha, was also a major target for paparazzi. George Hamilton once remarked:
"I remember when the word 'paparazzi' came along, and it just meant a bunch of guys who were all photographers looking for Elizabeth Taylor. Desperately looking for Elizabeth Taylor! And that was the beginning of paparazzi. They were not going for glamour anymore. They were going for the destruction of glamour."

Some info on the SAG-AFTRA strike:

A message from Jennifer Hale
SAG-AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement Negotiating Committee Chair answers a fan's question on how fans can show support and solidarity during the strike
SAG-AFTRA's page on the strike | News | FAQ
How creators and streamers can show support
Creators and streamers are not being asked to stop playing certain games
Only the American guild is striking. "The UK union are not able to strike due to LAWS in the UK, but do stand in solidarity! Do NOT attack UK actors for working at this time" [source]
"As far as Dragon Age Veilguard, several of the voice cast are SAG-AFTRA members, this would most likely mean they would not be involved in promotion [after SDCC] or would not be able to record any lines/do mocap moving forward." [source]
Also: "The game actors strike rules are messier than it first seems. They can't work on new projects, or ones recently started, but games in production a year or more ago and live service/ongoing games are excluded from the strike (for now)." [source]
Text in first image reads: "From a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson: Due to certain provisions in the IMA contract, games that were in production at the time that the union provided the company its notice of termination are not currently subject to the strike order. Most notices were sent in September 2022. We served a separate notice relating to live service games, which we can strike in less than 60 days. We will update the membership if we expand the strife order to include those games closer to that time." Text in the second image reads: "The language in the IMA is clear that video games that were already in production prior to August 25, 2024, including live service games, are not subject to the strike and remain covered by the ongoing terms of the 2020-2022 IMA. Performers would not be in violation of the strike order if they continue working on these games." [source]

Greetings! I hope you're having an at least decent weekend. Is it just me or is Stephen Chow involved in a lot of jttw/swk centered media? & do you have anything to say about any of Stephen Chow's jttw/swk centered work?
Stephen Chow WAS Sun Wukong in what could be considered the most iconic Sun Wukong that changed the game. I'm not kidding that there could be a butterfly effect on how Stephen Chow's Wukong in the Chinese Odyssey became such a classic we see how it has affected games, shows, and movies even years later. Dare I say it but I think Stephen Chow could have been just as influential to Wukong's development in modern media as much as even Liu Xiao Ling Tong with how IMPACTFUL his Wukong was.
I have to say that Stephen Chow does have a certain scene of humor that you see in all his movies, not just Journey to the West. He can be raunchy, violent, and nonsensical so I would say that his style of movies might not land with everyone but Stephen Chow undoubtedly always puts a lot of heart into his characters which is what really makes people connect with his movies. He is a master of incorporating meaningful connections through the most ridiculous and insane situations that humans could find themselves in and that is part of his charm seeing both the humor and the tragedy in life as they often go hand and hand. I would suggest reading more about his style here since I think it puts into words how his art form is expressed.
But there can be a fascinating conversation to say just HOW much his Sun Wukong has influenced even modern Journey to the West media. Chinse Odessey was nearly 30 years ago and yet its impact is still being seen today in movies that are directly related to his films, versus movies and shows that he is directly or indirectly involved in today.
Journey to the West Conquering the Demons (2030) (tv remake on Chow’s Wukong)
Black Myth Wukong (2024)
The Monkey King (2023)
A Chinese Odyssey 1 (2022)
A Chinese Odyssey - Origin (2022)
Journey to the West - ARPG (2019)
Bio of Wukong (2017)
The Legend of Sun Wukong (2017)
A Chinese Odyssey TV series (2017)
Journey to the West Demon Strikes Back (2017)
A Chinese Odyssey Part Three (2016)
Honor of Kings (2015)
Taste of Love (2015)
Journey to the West Conquering the Demon (2013)
Asura Online (2010)
Even in movies that he is NOT involved in like Monkey King: The One and Only (2021) 大圣无双 where the Wukong actor is basing his performance clearly on Demon Strikes Back (2017) Wukong. Not to mention nearly EVERY SINGLE Wukong x SO plot line where the SO dies in the end could be traced back to Chinese Odyssey. If you hate how much Wukong's love interests are killed off in media, you can somewhat blame Stephen Chow, not for doing it first, but for doing it WELL and then dozens of directors for years to come trying to recapture that magic but falling short of what made people love that tragic romance in the first place.
Chinese Odessey was made in 1995 and led to the light novel Bio of Wukong which was made in 2000 and at least 4 more movies and its own TV show. The Bio of Wukong was so popular that it led to the inspiration of Asura Online game based is the story and its own movie Immortal Demon Slayer. Stephen Chow continued to make his own movies Conquering the Demon and Demon Strikes Back. He also goes on to help produce Monkey King 2023 and even makes plans to help produce an entire TV series based on his own universe. Asura Online was worked on by Game Science who continued to work on the creation of Black Myth Wukong. This isn't even to mention the spin-offs, sequels, and prequels to Chow's movies and still how they are influencing directors today.
I can't express how much Chow has impacted the very image of Sun Wukong from being a fighter to a tragic hero. I even took from an ENTIRE CHPATER from Transforming Monkey: Adaptation and Representation by Hongmei Sun bout the CULTURAL impact that fans had with Chinese Odessey and how it became such a cult classic. He was the one to really reshape what Wukong could mean to people, not just a hero in an action movie, but a tragic figure that is forced to give up his individualism for the sake of saving the world because no one else can. That the burden of being 'Sun Wukong' can be relatable to anyone and anyone can see their own struggles with how Wukong tries not just to fight demons, but also fight himself.
I have so many feelings on the intricacies of how Wukong's character changes throughout each generation and each audience across countries and what he means to each new audience but never loses what makes him so beloved and keeps him still going strong after 400 years. And I think that Stephen Chow plays a huge and critical part in how Wukong has changed yet again in the public eye. Wukong going from a pure heroic figure to now a tragic hero who has all the power in the world but still finds himself falling short of what he desires in life. I think that this was a vital step in show the complexity and having more directors and the audience toy with the notion of Wukong's internal battle with his identity versus him always just fighting physical battles.
I will say that Chow's influence did lead to the popularity of the Journey to the West Conspiracy Theory which I am not personally a fan of. It is not that it can't be fun or interesting but moreso I believe that this theory has been drawn out far too long in the past 20 years and that it is time for a new nuance perspective to take its place. Genres have waves of new tropes and cliches and I do believe the 'heaven bad, yaoguai misunderstood' has been played out a tad too long to be charming anymore. I think this was a vital step in Wukong’s and Journey to the West adaptions but I also believe that now more can be built upon this premise to allow for more creative ideas that reflect a more modern audience.
I think that the audience that has grown up with Chow's work (Chinese Odessey at least) is now at the age where they can produce and create their own material and we are still seeing how this audience is echoing the same statements of Chow's Tragic Hero standpoint. I don't know what else I can say that I haven't said before but the sheer magnitude of changing a character's image is shocking and I hope that we see what new form Sun Wukong shall take!

Easily my most popular post was about paddlefish, so this Wet Beast Wednesday it's time to give them their moment in the sun. Paddlefish are members of the family Polyodontidae and one of only two surviving members of the order Acipenseriformes, the other being sturgeons. The Acipenseriformes are one of the oldest lineages of ray-finned fish and diverged from the ancestors of all other modern ray-finned fish around 300 millions years ago. While paddlefish have been around since the Cretaceous period, there is only one living species, the American paddlefish (Polyodon spathula). Another modern species is the Chinese paddlefish (Psephurus gladius), but the last sighting of one was in 2003 and they were officially declared extinct in 2022. In this post, unless I specify otherwise everything I say will be referring to the American paddlefish.
(image: either an American paddlefish or a basking shark that got its nose caught in a hydraulic press)
Paddlefish are named for their very long rostrums which are packed full of electrorecepting organs called the ampullae of Lorenzini used to sense electric fiends in the water. The ampullae are not only on the rostrum, but also on the head and large skin flaps that extend from the operculum (gill cover). They are so sensitive that paddlefish are able to sense the movement of individual body parts of zooplankton. Paddlefish use their rostrums to detect their prey, which consists almost entirely of zooplankton. They are ream suspension feeders, swimming toward swarms of zooplankton with their mouths open. As the water passes through the gills, gill rakers filter out the zooplankton, which is then swallowed. Other fish that use this feeding method include basking sharks. While the rostrum is the primary method of prey detection, other ampullae on the head and operculum flap allow the fish to still effectively find food even if the rostrum is damaged or destroyed. When working fish fish on the Mississippi I caught multiple paddlefish who lost their rostrums to propeller strikes and were still doing fine. Electroreception is their main sense, with their eyesight being extremely poor.
(image: the skeletal structure of the rostrum)
As chordates, paddlefish have a notochord that runs from the head down the body. In most modern chordates, the notochord is only present in the embryo and is lost during development. This is not the case for paddlefish, who retain their notochord into adulthood, where is acts as a soft spine. While paddlefish (and their sturgeon cousins) are bony fish, they have lost most of the bone and now have skeletons composed almost entirely of cartilage. It is for this reason that early taxonomists initially miscategorized paddlefish as freshwater sharks. To be fair, they do look a lot like miniature basking sharks. Who crossbred with spoons. They also lost their scales and have smooth, easily damaged skin instead. Their skin is so easily damaged that just being caught in nets can leave scars. Paddlefish are large and long-lived. The American species reaches an average of 1.5 m (5 ft) in length, with the rostrum making up a third of that, and a weight of 27 kg (60 lbs). The largest recorded specimen was 2.16 m (7 ft 1 in) and an estimated 90 kg (198 lbs). Despite being one of the largest American freshwater fish, they paled in comparison to the Chinese species, which could reach 3 m (9.8 ft) and 500 kg (1,100 lbs). The largest Chinese paddlefish on record was 7 m (23 ft) long and was estimated to weigh "a few thousand pounds". The Chinese paddlefish also preferred larger prey, feeding largely on small fish and crustaceans. American paddlefish live an average of 5 to 8 years, but in the right circumstances can live up to 60 years, with females generally living longer. The Chinese paddlefish had an estimated average lifespan of 29-38 years. In both species, it is believed that human activity drastically reduced their average lifespans.
(image: an absolute unit of an American paddlefish)
(image: a reconstruction of a Chinese paddlefish from the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum)
Paddlefish travel upriver to spawn in spring. They prefer to span on shallow gravel bars that would be exposed to air if not for spring rainfall and snow melt. Because they require very specific conditions to spawn, spawning rarely occurs every year. Every 4-5 years is more common. Paddlefish are broadcast spawners, with both males and females releasing gametes into the water column. Fertilized eggs are negatively buoyant and sticky. They will sink to the bottom and stick to the gravel. Once hatched, larvae will be swept down river to develop in deep pools. They are born without rostrums, which start to grow almost immediately. Paddlefish mature late, with females becoming sexually mature between 7 and 10 years of age, with a few not maturing until as late as 16-18 years. Human activity is resulting in many individuals dying before becoming sexually mature. American paddlefish are cross-fertile with the Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii), producing a hybrid offspring known as the sturddlefish despite being separated by the Atlantic ocean and 184 million years of evolution. This was discovered by accident when scientists introduced paddlefish sperm too sturgeon eggs as a control group for an experiment. I made a post on the sturddlefish which you can read here.
(image: three larval paddlefish of different ages)
American paddlefish are classified as vulnerable by the IUCN. They are native to the Mississippi river basin that encompasses much of the midwest and south of the United States, but their range used to be larger, reaching into Lake Huron, the Northeastern U.S. and parts of Canada. This reduction of native range is due largely to human activity, mostly overfishing and habitat loss. Zebra mussels, an invasive species, are a major competition for paddlefish as theybith feed on zooplankton. Reintroduction programs have begun in some of the states they were extirpated from, and they have been introduced to China, Cuba, and multiple countries in Europe for use in fishing and caviar production. 13 states allow for sport fishing of paddlefish, some of them relying on restocking to maintain a population for anglers. Paddlefish meat is edible and their eggs can be used for caviar. Paddlefish can be raised in captivity, but must will not spawn in captivity and so establishing captive populations requires gonad extraction and artificial insemination. Poaching of wild paddlefish for their eggs is an ongoing problem. The extinction of the Chinese paddlefish is believed to be the result of overexploitation and habitat loss.

In Losing Grip On Sinking Ships (14/22)
Chapter summary: Vision sends you a demand letter for physical assault; Yelena makes a discovery that could shake the delicate foundations of your newfound 'friendship' with Wanda.
Chapter word count: 5.6k | Warnings: None | Ship: Wanda x Reader, Yelena x Reader
Author's note: Enjoy? :)
AO3 | Masterlist
Next chapter: Fifteen
--
Fourteen
The demand letter sits in front of you, openly mocking you with its mere existence. It arrived at the most unanticipated time, suspiciously just a few days after your birthday. It is drafted by one of the most sought-after law firms in New York and co-signed by one Victor Shade, but you doubt that he had any hand in composing it.
You've read it at least a dozen times now, its words wasting no time diving into the heart of the matter, “On January 4th, 2022 I suffered severe and critical injuries, when the actions of your insured, Ms. Y/N L/N…”
Deep down, you think you’ve been expecting this. The way Vision looked at Wanda the last time you saw them hinted at his lingering feelings. You knew he would do something to ease Wanda's rejection of him, and now he wants a specific amount as compensation: "Total Damages - $831,615.60."
With steady breaths, you carefully fold the letter back into its envelope.
You wonder if Wanda knows about this. Clearly, whatever she and Vision previously agreed on to delay this matter has now unraveled. And if that’s the case, you want to make sure that Wanda stays out of this, and that her ties to Vision are permanently severed.
As you’re pondering the financial repercussions should you opt to settle, and the added frustration of Natasha not returning any of your calls, your office phone rings, startling you.
"Yes?" you answer when your assistant speaks.
"Sorry to bother you, but Ms. Yelena Romanoff is here to see you," your assistant tells you.
"Send her in, Martin. Thanks." you say and hang up, hurriedly clearing your desk, thoughtlessly placing the letter on top of the pile of documents you need to burn through for today.
A few moments pass, and then Yelena appears at the doorway of your office, wearing a bright smile that matches her vibrant pink lipstick. Coyly, she taps on the door, even though it's already slightly ajar. She's dressed in tight, ripped jeans, paired with knee-high boots and a vibrant red jacket–easily a sight for sore eyes.
“Hey, baby, you busy?” she asks sort of mischievously.
You shake your head, grinning “Not for you.”
"Good," she replies, stepping into the room and locking the door behind her. You begin to rise from your seat, but she stops you with a hand. Making her way around your desk, she forcefully pushes you back into your executive chair.
“What are you doing?” you whisper, entranced, and watch as she straddles your thighs.
"Assaulting my girlfriend," she murmurs with a wink, her choice of words momentarily freezing you in place. But as her lips find their way to your neck, any further thoughts dissipate, distracting you from everything else in that electrifying moment. Your hands rest innocently on her hips, massaging her gently as her hips start a slow, gentle rhythm. Tilting your head back, you surrender to her fervor as she traces the length of your throat with her nose, leaving a trail of open-mouthed kisses along the way.
Yelena's jacket slips from her shoulders, cascading to the floor, revealing a thin turtleneck that clings to her form. With haste, you lift it up, exposing her flushed chest that’s heaving with her every breath. But before you can bury your face into her soft mounds, the phone rings again, prompting your girlfriend to get off your lap.
You let out a frustrated curse under your breath, while Yelena giggled, amused at your striking annoyance.
"What is it, Martin?" you answer as calmly as you could while trying to get the image of Yelena’s breast out of your head.
"Mr. Stark is calling in the managers for an emergency meeting," Martin informs you.
That completely diverts your attention away from a half-naked Yelena panting on your desk.
“He’s here?”
"Yes, ma'am," Martin confirms.
"Uh, okay. Give me two minutes," you say, ending the call.
Having overheard the conversation, Yelena quickly retrieves some tissues and proceeds to gently wipe away the lipstick stains she had left on your neck. “Shit, sorry, babe.”
"Don't worry about it," you stammer, still finding it difficult to concentrate amidst your lingering arousal.
“Yeah,” Yelena smiles knowingly. “Maybe another time, then.”
"Would it be more practical if I put that in my calendar?" you suggest, half-jokingly.
Yelena scrunches her nose at the idea of scheduling sex. “Where's the fun in that?” she retorts.
"You're right. I’m a fussy nerd, I know," you admit with a chuckle.
"A sexy nerd," Yelena corrects, planting a full kiss on your lips. "Now, go get 'em, tiger."
She playfully nudges you towards the door, urging you to make your way to the meeting. As you straighten the creases on your skirt, you quickly reassure her, “I'll be back in a few, okay?” There's a hint of worry in your voice, as if you fear she might leave without your knowledge.
Yelena's eyes meet yours, and she gives you a reassuring smile. “I'll be here,” she promises.
As soon as you leave the room, Yelena retrieves her jacket from the floor and tidies her appearance. In an instant, she transforms into the journalist persona that she hasn’t allowed you to see. She had visited you for another purpose today, and the unexpected opportunity that presented itself left her both surprised and eager to fulfill her intentions.
Call it an instinct or a persistent gut feeling, but Yelena had been on edge since your birthday. A sense of unease had settled within her, accompanied by an unexplained nagging sensation that there’s something she needed to uncover. It feels as though you’ve been keeping a secret from her for quite some time.
Carefully, she rummages through your drawer, cautious to leave things as they are. And then, out of the corner of her eye, something catches her attention—an envelope. It doesn’t look like it belongs there, on top of documents and folders that have the stamp of Stark Industries in them. No, this envelope bears the distinct markings of an infamous law firm. And clearly, you’ve read whatever is inside, considering the gaping tear on the side of the envelope.
With steady hands, she retrieves the envelope, her movements purposeful and precise. Carefully unfolding the letter, her eyes swiftly scan its contents, absorbing the information with speed and accuracy. She knows that time is of the essence, aware that you could return at any moment, leaving her with limited opportunity to delve into its contents.
Yelena slips the letter back in its envelope and returns it to its original position, making sure to arrange it exactly as she found it. Were you going to tell her about this? Would you have asked for her help or her input as your partner? Or would you just go through the tides without her ever knowing?
Her intuition had been spot-on; there was indeed something to uncover, and it was undeniably connected to your ex-wife.
She promised you she’d be waiting, but if she wants to help you out of your situation, she better get going.

Later that same day, Wanda stands behind the sleek espresso machine, a confident smile on her face as she prepares to demonstrate to Peter a coffee technique known as "pour-over brewing". The café is relatively quiet, with only a few customers lingering over their cups of coffee. Valkyrie left just a while ago after enjoying her usual brew. Before leaving, she had presented Wanda with a thoughtful gift—a bag of exotic coffee beans collected during her recent business trip to Cape Town. Valkyrie had hoped to impress Wanda not only with the beans themselves but also by showcasing herself as a renowned photographer. Eager to try them, Wanda saw this as the perfect opportunity to share one of her favorite brewing techniques with Peter.
As Wanda expertly pours hot water over the meticulously arranged coffee grounds, she explains the process. "Pour-over brewing allows us to extract the full flavor from the coffee grounds. It's all about precision and patience. The water must be heated to the right temperature, and the pouring technique should be slow and steady. It results in a clean and nuanced cup of coffee."
Crouching down to bring himself to eye level with the coffee, Peter’s concentration deepens as he poses a question: "So, how can you tell when it's ready?"
“Generally, it takes around two to three minutes for the water to pass through the coffee bed, depending on the desired strength and flavor profile."
Wanda leans in, pointing out the subtleties of the process. “As you observe the flow of water, pay attention to the color and consistency. The water should form a gentle, controlled stream, evenly saturating the grounds. If it rushes too quickly or seems to pool in one spot, it may be a sign to adjust your pouring technique.”
“Additionally,” Wanda continues, “Watch for the final stages of the pour-over. As the water nears the end of its journey, the drips become slower and more intermittent. This gradual decrease signifies that the process is almost complete.”
With a smile, Peter watches as the coffee brewing process unfolds before his eyes, precisely as Wanda had described. As the last drops fall into the waiting cups, Wanda proceeds to pour the freshly brewed coffee, dividing it between two cups—one for herself and one for Peter to try.
“For the rest of the week, you’ll be covering all the coffee orders, alright?” Wanda says.
Peter nods eagerly in excitement.
Just as Wanda is about to bring the cup to her lips, the cheerful chime of the café's entrance sounds. Her eyes widen in surprise as she catches sight of the least expected person to walk through the doors of her coffee shop.
Yelena.
Confusion immediately clouds Wanda's face, but before she can react, Peter takes the initiative to greet their customer. Yelena responds with a faint smile as she approaches the counter, drawing closer to Wanda until they’re standing face to face, finding themselves in a similar situation just a few weeks prior.
“One cup of coffee, please,” Yelena orders meekly, pulling a twenty-dollar bill off her purse.
“Coming right up,” Peter promptly replies, ready to assist, but Wanda interjects.
“I'll get this, Peter. Why don't you attend to the stock for now?” Wanda suggests.
“Certainly, Ms. Max–Wanda,” Peter says and scurries off to the back room, giving the two some space.
Wanda's smile brims with gratitude as Peter leaves, granting them a moment of privacy. She then shifts her undivided attention to Yelena, whose growing discomfort doesn't go unnoticed, stoking Wanda’s own anxiety about the purpose of her visit.
Pushing aside her inner reservations, Wanda adopts a professional demeanor, masking her own concerns. From this point onward, it’s all business.
"Specifically, what coffee would you like?" she asks.
Yelena shrugs. "Anything, really."
Wanda chuckles softly, appreciating Yelena's laid-back approach. "Alright, then. Would you prefer it hot or iced?"
Yelena raises an eyebrow. "Who drinks cold coffee?"
Wanda's smile widens, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Actually, many people do. But I have something special for you. I just brewed some off-the-menu grounds from Cape Town. Would you like to try that?"
“Sure. How much?”
Waving her hand dismissively, she insists, “On the house. It's a gift from a friend anyway.”
It’s met with a quiet nod from Yelena, who slips the twenty dollar bill into the tip jar as a token of appreciation.
“How about something to eat?” Wanda asks.
“I’m good,” Yelena politely declines, shaking her head.
However, the next words that escape Yelena's mouth are anything but polite, catching Wanda off guard.
“Are you trying to get her back?”
Wanda almost drops the cup she was in the midst of placing on a tray for Yelena.
Staring at each other, tension lingering palpably before Yelena clears her throat, breaking the moment. She gestures towards a more secluded area of the café. “Should we, uh, talk over there?”
With a hesitant nod, Wanda acquiesces, her thoughts filled with a flicker of doubt about her choice to open a café rather than a bar. At this very moment, she wishes for nothing more than a shot of whisky before having this ‘talk’.
Yelena doesn’t jump back right in after they are seated. Instead, she takes a sip of her coffee, humming pleasantly at the flavor that touches her taste buds.
“How did you find this place?” Wanda asks. How did you know where to find me?
Yelena, unfazed by the question, responds matter-of-factly, “I'm a journalist. Finding out things isn't too hard for me to do.”
"So, are you trying to get her back?" Yelena repeats as her eyes lock on Wanda’s.
Wanda's response is swift and sincere. “I'm not,” she states firmly. If Yelena had asked her that question before the night she nearly died, she would’ve said yes in a heartbeat. But now, she has nothing but respect for your relationship with Yelena, and doesn’t want to come in between the happiness you’ve found with her.
“But you still love her, don’t you?”
Wanda acknowledges her feelings for you in a slow, deliberate nod, seeing no point in denying it.
“I don’t know why you feel the need to ask me this,” Wanda says. "Y/N loves you. She wouldn't be with you if she didn't."
“I know,” Yelena says with conviction. "But that doesn't mean she’s mine completely."
Wanda's eyes narrow, searching for the true intent behind Yelena's words. Does Yelena genuinely believe that? Could there really be a possibility that you still love her?
Wanda swallows dryly. “I–”
Yelena interrupts, her tone heavy with resignation. "You should have just stayed away," she sighs, her gaze shifting downwards, as if the realization dawned on her just a little too late. She didn’t mean to start talking to Wanda about her insecurities, but Yelena couldn’t help but think about the depth of your attachment to this woman the more she looks at her.
As she gazes at Wanda, she can't help but wonder where your love for Wanda ends and hers begin.
“I am staying away,” Wanda firmly declares, her posture shifting as she straightens her spine in the chair. All of her encounters with you except for the time you were the one to come to her have been purely coincidental–despite how often they happen.
“Except for matters concerning Sparky,” she adds, correcting herself, “He used to be Y/N's dog as well. It was important for her to be informed about what was happening with him.”
“So, you didn't contact her on her birthday?” Yelena probes, watching Wanda intently for anything that would suggest that she might be lying with her answer.
Wanda, to her credit, doesn't even flinch as she replies, “I did.” It’s immediately clear that Yelena has no idea that you ran into her that night. Wanda understands that it is a matter to be discussed between you and your girlfriend, and she has no intention of revealing something that is not hers to disclose. But it’s another question that will definitely consume her thoughts later.
Yelena tightly clenches her jaw, trying to stay calm. She's always trusted you and never invaded your privacy, never checked your messages. But now, she can't help but wonder if she should have been a bit more vigilant.
“I see,” she drawls, and then finishes the last of her coffee. She doesn’t think she wants to know the details of that any further. “You claim that you’re trying to stay away from Y/N, but obviously, you’re not doing such a great job of it.”
Confused, Wanda furrows her brows and asks, "What do you mean?"
Yelena reaches into her purse and retrieves a thumb drive, sliding it in Wanda's direction.
Wanda looks at the curious little device. “What’s this?”
“Before I tell you, there’s something you should know,” Yelena pauses, making sure that Wanda is thoroughly listening before she shares the news. "Victor Shade has just sent Y/N a demand letter for damages related to physical assault."
"V-Vision?" Wanda’s voice trembles as she speaks.
Yelena nods knowingly. "I assume there's only one Victor Shade in your life–"
"He's not in my life." The words escape Wanda's lips with a forcefulness and intensity that surprises them both. “Not anymore.”
A pregnant pause hangs between them, Yelena patiently waiting for Wanda to gather herself as she observes the rapid whirl of thoughts inside her head.
After a beat, Yelena continues the slew of disclosures. “I assume his decision to exact revenge on Y/N has something to do with you.”
Wanda's voice rises in defense. “Are you accusing me of conniving with that–”
“No, not exactly,” Yelena says. “He’s a kid who grew up in a wealthy family, never being denied anything in his life. I think his letter was driven by jealousy. All I’m saying is that this could have been avoided if he had not seen you two together.
“Which brings us to that,” Yelena's gaze shifts to the USB device, which sits untouched near Wanda's hands on the table. It's as if Wanda is actively avoiding it, treating it like a dangerous explosive, which in retrospect, could be deemed as such if its contents were ever revealed.
"Look, I don't have concrete proof of him stalking you, but I believe this is substantial evidence to shake him off balance."
Wanda fixes Yelena with an expectant gaze, her eyes brimming with anticipation.
Yelena lets out a resigned sigh. "Fine, I'll tell you, since you're so patient.”
Wanda resists reacting to the veiled sarcasm, sensing that what Yelena is about to reveal aligns with her worst fears.
“Vision filmed you both having sex,” Yelena states bluntly, not concerned with softening the crude reality of the situation. “I was able to retrieve just one. I don’t know how many there are. And from the way the recording was cut an hour later when you’re already sleeping means you have no idea he was doing this.”
At Wanda's lack of response and the visible dread in her eyes, Yelena decides to speak up again.
“That's an invasion of privacy. In the state of New Jersey, you can send someone to prison for that for up to five years. Now, it’s up to you to decide what to do with this information.
“I know you care about Y/N, “ Yelena takes a deep breath, as if that fact physically hurts too much for her to accept in light of things. “I know you’ll do everything to help her in this situation.”
“How much is he asking from Y/N?” Wanda mumbles after a long time.
“More than $800,000 in damages.”
“Jesus,” Wanda gasps at the amount, instinctively bringing her hands up to her face, covering her eyes and burying her features in her palms. Although insurance might cover it, it’s still potentially crippling. Determined to figure this out, she finally picks up the USB from the table and secures it inside her pocket.
“How did you find out all of this? And how did you even get this video?” Wanda inquires curiously.
“I don’t reveal my sources.” Yelena replies with a smile, leaving Wanda suspicious about the legality of her methods. And equally suspicious of Yelena’s intentions, Wanda asks, “Why are you helping me?”
Yelena's snort breaks through, a genuine expression of glee that surprises Wanda. "I'm not. I'm doing all of this for Y/N."
"Fair enough. But why approach me then? You could have immediately gone to Y/N about this, even shown her the video?” Logically, it would be a strategic move for Yelena. Witnessing the gritty details of Wanda’s cheating would undoubtedly reignite the grievances in your heart. And she’d never have to worry about you going back to Wanda ever again.
The look that Yelena throws at her is a mix of pity and disgust. “I’d never intentionally hurt Y/N. I came to you because it's your responsibility to fix this mess. It's the least you could do for all the pain you've caused her.”
With those words hanging in the air, Yelena rises from her seat. Casting one final glance at Wanda, she adds, "If you think I’d resort to dirty tricks just to keep Y/N, then you really have no idea how to love her in the first place.”
***
“You have no idea how happy I was when you said you wanted to see me.”
Vision smiles at Wanda as her gaze unwillingly falls upon him, her body trembling with a fury she never realized existed within her. The moment Yelena left her café, Wanda wasted no time in reaching out to Vision, and he promptly answered her call, as if he had been eagerly anticipating that very moment all along. She had chosen a crowded restaurant, in one of the busiest streets in Manhattan near Town Square, seeking safety in the presence of a man she knew deep down couldn't be trusted.
"I didn't want to. I had to," Wanda admits sharply, crossing her arms in front of her. "I thought we had an agreement. That you would stay away from Y/N. And your idea of that is extorting money from her?"
“My circumstances have changed,” Vision argues, sounding almost remorseful. “My dad decided to cut me off, and I can no longer fund my move to Tokyo to pursue my film studies.”
Vision searches Wanda’s face, hoping to see a reaction, but she remains indifferent to his news of departure, seemingly unaffected by what's happening in his life.
“That’s the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard,” Wanda says spitefully. And then she sighs in defeat. “If I give you the money, will you–”
"I don't want the money from you," Vision declares, placing his fork down with a loud noise. "She did put me into a coma–”
“Because we fucking drove her to it!” Wanda screams her frustration. The outburst attracts the attention of others in the restaurant, and Wanda looks around apologetically before sinking back into her chair with a sigh.
“The assault happened and I can prove it in court if it ever comes to it.” he says after Wanda has grown quiet.
“You’re not going to prove anything because you’re going to retract that letter and you’re going to leave her alone just like you promised.” Wanda’s words carry a sense of finality, as if there is no other option for Vision.
“You can’t tell me what to do anymore–”
“I can,” Wanda says with a bout of confidence. "Otherwise, you're looking at up to five years in prison for filming me without my consent."
It takes Vision a moment to grasp the meaning behind Wanda's words, and Wanda takes pleasure in observing the color drain from his face.
“You hacked into my stuff?” he stammers in disbelief.
“You fucking filmed me,” Wanda reiterates, as they both remain fixated on their respective grievances. “I can’t believe I ever trusted you. I’ve never felt so betrayed and disgusted with myself as I do now.”
“How did you get the file?” he asks.
“I don’t reveal my sources,” Wanda says, echoing Yelena’s statement from earlier.
He locks eyes with Wanda, attempting to gauge if she's bluffing, but Wanda remains resolute, maintaining a stoic expression. Then, a small laugh escapes him, shaking his head as if the situation is nothing more than a joke. Wanda fumes as she takes a sip of her water and sets it back down heavy-handedly.
“Here’s the thing,” Vision casually signals for the waiter to refill his wine. “We’re all backed into a corner. If you use that against me, she'll find out, and it will only fuel her hatred towards you. Is that a risk you're willing to take?"
Wanda hesitates, her lips parting with uncertainty before closing them in a swift decision. It's a high-stakes gamble, an all-or-nothing move that reveals the vulnerable hand she holds.
You really have no idea how to love her in the first place. She doesn’t exactly know what Yelena meant by that, nevertheless, it makes her doubt her ability to love you properly. She wishes there was a manual that she could read from cover-to-cover until the pages are worn from countless readings. All Wanda can do is prove that she can; even though loving you is the one thing she wants to get right, but has failed multiple times.
“You don’t get to question me about what I’m willing to risk.” she says as she stands up to leave.
Vision calmly wipes his mouth with a table napkin. “Then I guess we’ll just have to find out what Y/N’s next move is.”
***
Standing on the balcony of your high-rise Manhattan apartment, the view from up here is breathtaking.
The city below pulsates with vibrant energy, resembling a living organism with a heartbeat all its own. Its grandeur is reminiscent of the landscapes that once inspired poets and artists in centuries past. However, the awe-inspiring scenery does little to quell the turmoil raging within you, as you grapple with the decision of whether to pick up the phone and call Wanda or let the silence linger.
You haven't told Yelena about the demand letter that you received from Vision’s law firm yesterday. You want to protect her from getting involved in the convoluted aftermath of Wanda's cheating, which evidently still affects you like aftershocks from an earthquake. You tell yourself that you will let her know, in time, when you figure out what to do.
With Wanda, there's a strong likelihood that she is already caught in the midst of this storm. You vividly recall the last encounter with Vision, his demeanor exuding a sense of power, as if he held the ability to dismantle your life in a single moment. He subtly implied that it was solely Wanda who prevented him from doing so.
You wonder if Wanda’s aware that Vision has carried out his plans for revenge; she needed to stop protecting you from him. You’re more than capable of taking care of yourself and accepting the repercussions of your own choices and actions.
As you deliberate on what to say to Wanda when you eventually call her, the sound of your building lobby intercom blares through the living room. The voice on the other end informs you, "Ms. Y/L/N? A certain Wanda Maximoff here would like to see you. Shall I allow her in?"
Your heart skips a beat and you press the button for you to speak. "Please, thank you.”
There’s the answer to one of your questions–Wanda probably knows about Vision’s stipulation regarding the substantial sum of almost a million dollars.
It’s a few minutes of waiting before you hear the doorbell ring.
You open the door to find a visibly fatigued Wanda standing timidly before you. Dark circles under her eyes and a certain gauntness in her cheeks catch your attention, details that you may not have noticed before due to her naturally pronounced cheekbones that give her a sharp, distinct look.
"I should've called," Wanda says, offering a thin smile as you welcome her inside. "But my feet were already bringing me here before I even thought about it."
"It's no problem at all. Would you like some water or something to drink? I have kombucha, tea... There's also a French Cab breathing in the kitchen, though I know it's quite early."
"I think I'll go for a glass of wine," Wanda replies.
"Coming right up," you say with a warm, good-natured smile, playfully mimicking Wanda's typical line in her own café.
“Is Yelena around?” Wanda asks as she nervously takes in her surroundings.
“She’s working,” you reply as you trudge towards the kitchen.
Left on her own, Wanda perches awkwardly on one end of the couch, her eyes scanning your quaint living room. She can discern the details that reflect your personality, but it doesn’t appease the fact that she has never felt more like an outsider in your life.
"Here," Wanda hears you say from behind her. She turns her head to find you giving the wine glass a gentle swirl, observing as the liquid moves about slowly and clings to the sides—a clear indicator of its high alcohol content. Bringing the glass to your nose, you take a whiff, seemingly enticed by its aroma. Finally, you extend the glass towards Wanda, offering it to her.
Wanda takes a sip–it’s rich and heavy, and the warmth it brings immediately spreads to her chest, instantly soothing her.
You look at her expectantly, choosing to sit on the opposite end. Seeing how worried she looks, you feel that she might finish her glass before she could utter a single word about what she came here for.
Deciding to help her out, you break the silence first.
“I take it you know about Vision’s demand letter,” you start, running your fingertip along the rim of your own wine glass. “It’s what you came here for right?”
Wanda nods and then raises the glass to her lips once more, taking another sip until she empties its contents. A small dribble of red liquid escapes from the corner of her mouth, which she promptly wipes with her thumb.
“What are you going to do?” Wanda asks, somber eyes fixed on her lap. Guilt weighs heavily on her, feeling like she brought this on you–which, in hindsight, she probably did.
As Wanda wrestles with her own feelings of culpability, she hears Calliope's voice echoing in her mind. “You can’t shoulder all the blame, Wanda,” she told her. “It just leaves you lonely and stuck in a situation you have no control of.”
Control is an illusion, Wanda reminds herself.
“I already set an appointment with my own lawyer. She’s going to go over the figures so we can renegotiate.”
It’s not at all what Wanda is expecting.
“You’re paying him off?” she asks, gaping at you openly for a moment.
"I did send him to the hospital. For quite a while actually," you admit, blinking slowly. "And if he had never woken up, I could very well be in prison right now."
As Wanda struggles with lingering guilt, you find yourself unable to deny the truth either and it weighs heavily on you. Frankly, you see no other way around this. Evading the consequences of letting your anger overwhelm you to the point of potential homicide is no longer a viable option.
You can see Wanda struggling with your decision, and you bitterly think that it’s too late for her to protect you in any way. She’s inflicted her own damage; and the consequence for her is watching the implications of it unravel before her.
“I–I have another way,” Wanda says.
Arching an eyebrow, you’re torn between curiosity and doubt. Wanda is aching for another glass of wine, but she has been consciously limiting her alcohol consumption lately. She doesn't want to repeat the countless occasions where she has either blacked out or come close to it.
“Wanda, stop,” you say, your voice gentle. “I don't want to know. I need closure. I need to get it in the right way, not through shortcuts. Please, don't protect me from this.”
Wanda’s eyes close on their own accord at your mention of the word ‘closure’. Does that closure include her?
“Just hear me out, please,” she implores with urgency. “There’s… there’s something he did that you can bring up with the law as well. And Vision has no proof that you were ever in his apartment, right? So if it comes to it, he really can’t prove that you’re the one who attacked him.”
Wanda looks pale even as she speaks with a kind of preternatural calm that you recognize only comes out when Wanda has come to terms with something. You lean back on the arm rest with an expectant look.
“He recorded us having… having the affair,” The words wrench themselves out of Wanda’s mouth and it takes a while for them to sink into your brain; when they do, you quickly look away, wishing you had instructed the concierge to deny Wanda's request to see you earlier.
You make a conscious effort to rein in your emotions, particularly the anger that wells up inside you. Wanda's infidelity is something you have learned to cope with long ago. But to discover that it can be substantiated with moving pictures and sounds leaves you grappling for answers.
“Did you know?” you ask steadily–while you can. “Did you know you were being recorded?”
Wanda can’t read the emotion behind your words as she shakes her head no.
Wanda inches closer to you, until your legs are almost touching. With utmost care, she takes hold of one of your hands and places a flash drive in your palm, closing your fingers around it. Your instinctive response is to maintain a firm grip, clenching your fist tightly around the drive.
“I’m sorry, Y/N,” she whispers. "If it wasn't for... for what I did, you’d be... we’d be..." Wanda's voice trails off as tears well up in the corners of her eyes, which she hastily wipes away.
Your own eyes moisten at the sight of her, but you manage to hold onto your rage to keep yourself from shattering altogether.
“I'm sorry he's resorting to this,” she continues, her gaze fixed on your clenched fist. “I'm sorry that this exists,” she adds, acknowledging the evidence of her betrayal in your hand. “I’d take it all back if I could.”
You feel the bandaid being ripped off the same wound that refuses to heal.
How deep does this go and where does it end?
Wanda's breath hitches, her struggle to hold back a sob. You impulsively attempt to create some distance, a physical retreat. Yet, as you lean back, the solid presence of the armrest behind you seems to trap you in a greater sense–of simultaneously wanting Wanda close and wanting her as far away from you as possible.

With all the propaganda and rhetoric against top surgery that "Gender Criticals" and general transphobes are spreading, here's some info on what top surgery was actually like for me, from surgery all through the healing process! (This post will include some images of drains and a little blood!)
I was diagnosed with gender dysphoria (which is necessary in the UK for surgery) around May 2020 and started testosterone February 2021, all through GenderCare. I got a letter from the gender therapist and a surgery referral from GenderGP and consulted with my surgeon then booked surgery for 14th Feb 2022.
I had to travel all the way to Manchester, on a coach that took many hours, and book a hotel. I raised surgery money via GoFundMe because despite being referred to (now closing) Tavistock GIC in early 2020, my appointment to even be assessed wouldn't have been for over 5 years.
I had a double incision top surgery (double mastectomy) on February 14th 2022 as scheduled! I woke up in a fairly minor amount of pain, still on painkillers from the surgery, with drains. As you can see, I was also so happy that probably made it hurt less!
My top surgery took a few hours. Pre-surgery, my chest size was a 32 H. That's a lot of tissue to be removing, and so I did end up with drains for the first 48 hours after surgery, though drains aren't used as broadly in the UK anymore and not by default.
I was discharged from the hospital the morning after my surgery (some people go home the day of, but I pre-arranged to stay overnight). I took no painkillers after surgery at any point during healing. I was up and walking around from the moment I left!
If you take painkillers, that may make you more fatigued and/or constipated, so those things are totally normal. If you need painkillers, you should absolutely take them - it's not a point of pride to suffer more than you need to. I didn't take any painkillers because I have a history of addiction to them. However, I found the pain entirely tolerable even despite the lack of medication.
The evening after I was released from the hospital, I was pacing my hotel room carrying my drains! Moving promotes healing and prevents blood clots. I was very hunched!
Directly after surgery I got to briefly see my chest, but not for long given that I needed to have the compression vest on! I didn't have too much swelling, so I could see what my chest actually looked like and was so excited. Once I got my drains out, I got to see it for longer!
The pain post-surgery was manageable. I had to bend forwards a little when walking so as not to pull on my stitches and make it hurt more, but I never took any painkillers and the pain was never intense enough to make me feel compelled to. I kept wearing my compression vest!
The drains were honestly the most painful part of the experience for me, and once they were out the most pain I felt was from my back from walking hunched forward. I wore the compression vest on and off for 2 weeks then abandoned it completely, because I had such little swelling.
3 weeks after surgery, I got my dressings off (except nipples). I could see the full scar. I told my surgeon I wanted scars that were mostly straight, and that combined with the size of my chest meant the scars needed to meet in the middle in a little triangle.
Everyone's scar shape is different, and you should talk to your surgeon about what you want. I didn't want semi-circle shape scars, because I wanted the scar to follow my pectorals so I'd have the option in the long-term of fading/medical tattooing and mostly hiding the scar.
3 weeks after top surgery, I was well-healed enough that I went into London for the Sex Work Strike and did a speech there! I was well-recovered by this point, though still fatigued. (A link to my speech if you're interested.)
Around a month, I took off the nipple dressing as instructed by my post-op nurse, and one was healed enough for no dressing but the other took about another week to be as healed. Healing isn't perfectly symmetrical.
Once all of my dressings were off and I was able to probably clean my nipples and scars, I got to see the full result of my chest. This is the thinnest my scars ever were, because they hadn't developed as scars yet - they were healed shut but weren't done scarring.
Once I was past a month of healing, all of the physical effects of top surgery had dissipated. I was no longer fatigued, my scars didn't hurt (though they did itch!), and I was in the secondary healing phase. My chest below the top of the nipple had minimal sensation.
I got phantom sensations, like water being poured over my chest, as the nerves reconnected. It wasn't painful, but it was weird! By month 2, I regained full sensation in most of my chest, with very little sensation on the scar and the skin directly between it and my nipples.
I have pretty much full sensation (including erotic sensation) in my nipples now. It's important to note: double incision almost always results in some loss of sensation, especially in the nipples. I'd have been fine with that, and this was an extra bonus for me!
This is my chest and scars 8 months after surgery.
And this is my chest now, just over 2 years after top surgery:
I'm very happy with how it looks, with how it feels, and I have zero regrets!

Whose Your Daddy Series by chaoticas_hell [Not Rated, Collection, Incomplete, Updated June 2024]
Part 1: Whose Your Daddy [47865 Words, Complete] Andrew Joseph Minyard didn't do regrets. But letting Neil in, allowing himself to want, for letting Neil slip through his fingertips- it was the closest he would get to feeling regret. It had been fourteen years since he last saw Neil, since Neil was taken right from under his grasp by his psycho-killer father and lost forever and Andrew had to make peace with that, had to stop expecting Neil to walk through his front door like he had never left. Except, one day, it all but happened. One day, a small kid with horribly cut short platinum blonde hair, striking blue eyes that plagued Andrew's dreams and nightmares, freckles and an achingly familiar horrible fashion sense showed up at his office door with the strangest question. "Are you Andrew Joseph Minyard, yes or no?" The kid asked in a British accent. Andrew could only nod. "Oh good." The kid said, suddenly unsure of themself. "Cause I think you're my dad." What the fuck?

Part 1: Baby mine [T, 18609 Words, Complete, 2022] Andrew could practically see the image of Neil sleeping on his chest, one of the pairs of shoes he'd bought still lying there in bed with them. Neil looked so peaceful, Andrew couldn't stop looking at him. His hand was right on Neil's belly, he could almost imagine what the girls' heartbeats were like there. Neil had sung a song that night, and Andrew memorized every note because, someday, he would also sing that same song for Neil and his daughters. (They couldn't) be more wanted, they've probably never wanted anything more in their life. “You won't touch any of them again.” Andrew said. His voice was low and his throat hurt. “You're not getting anywhere near my fucking family.”

The European Union today agreed on the details of the AI Act, a far-reaching set of rules for the people building and using artificial intelligence. It’s a milestone law that, lawmakers hope, will create a blueprint for the rest of the world.
After months of debate about how to regulate companies like OpenAI, lawmakers from the EU’s three branches of government—the Parliament, Council, and Commission—spent more than 36 hours in total thrashing out the new legislation between Wednesday afternoon and Friday evening. Lawmakers were under pressure to strike a deal before the EU parliament election campaign starts in the new year.
“The EU AI Act is a global first,” said European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on X. “[It is] a unique legal framework for the development of AI you can trust. And for the safety and fundamental rights of people and businesses.”
The law itself is not a world-first; China’s new rules for generative AI went into effect in August. But the EU AI Act is the most sweeping rulebook of its kind for the technology. It includes bans on biometric systems that identify people using sensitive characteristics such as sexual orientation and race, and the indiscriminate scraping of faces from the internet. Lawmakers also agreed that law enforcement should be able to use biometric identification systems in public spaces for certain crimes.
New transparency requirements for all general purpose AI models, like OpenAI's GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT, and stronger rules for “very powerful” models were also included. “The AI Act sets rules for large, powerful AI models, ensuring they do not present systemic risks to the Union,” says Dragos Tudorache, member of the European Parliament and one of two co-rapporteurs leading the negotiations.
Companies that don’t comply with the rules can be fined up to 7 percent of their global turnover. The bans on prohibited AI will take effect in six months, the transparency requirements in 12 months, and the full set of rules in around two years.
Measures designed to make it easier to protect copyright holders from generative AI and require general purpose AI systems to be more transparent about their energy use were also included.
“Europe has positioned itself as a pioneer, understanding the importance of its role as a global standard setter,” said European Commissioner Thierry Breton in a press conference on Friday night.
Over the two years lawmakers have been negotiating the rules agreed today, AI technology and the leading concerns about it have dramatically changed. When the AI Act was conceived in April 2021, policymakers were worried about opaque algorithms deciding who would get a job, be granted refugee status or receive social benefits. By 2022, there were examples that AI was actively harming people. In a Dutch scandal, decisions made by algorithms were linked to families being forcibly separated from their children, while students studying remotely alleged that AI systems discriminated against them based on the color of their skin.
Then, in November 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, dramatically shifting the debate. The leap in AI’s flexibility and popularity triggered alarm in some AI experts, who drew hyperbolic comparisons between AI and nuclear weapons.
That discussion manifested in the AI Act negotiations in Brussels in the form of a debate about whether makers of so-called foundation models such as the one behind ChatGPT, like OpenAI and Google, should be considered as the root of potential problems and regulated accordingly—or whether new rules should instead focus on companies using those foundational models to build new AI-powered applications, such as chatbots or image generators.
Representatives of Europe’s generative AI industry expressed caution about regulating foundation models, saying it could hamper innovation among the bloc’s AI startups. “We cannot regulate an engine devoid of usage,” Arthur Mensch, CEO of French AI company Mistral, said last month. “We don’t regulate the C [programming] language because one can use it to develop malware. Instead, we ban malware.” Mistral’s foundation model 7B would be exempt under the rules agreed today because the company is still in the research and development phase, Carme Artigas, Spain's Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, said in the press conference.
The major point of disagreement during the final discussions that ran late into the night twice this week was whether law enforcement should be allowed to use facial recognition or other types of biometrics to identify people either in real time or retrospectively. “Both destroy anonymity in public spaces,” says Daniel Leufer, a senior policy analyst at digital rights group Access Now. Real-time biometric identification can identify a person standing in a train station right now using live security camera feeds, he explains, while “post” or retrospective biometric identification can figure out that the same person also visited the train station, a bank, and a supermarket yesterday, using previously banked images or video.
Leufer said he was disappointed by the “loopholes” for law enforcement that appeared to have been built into the version of the act finalized today.
European regulators’ slow response to the emergence of social media era loomed over discussions. Almost 20 years elapsed between Facebook's launch and the passage of the Digital Services Act—the EU rulebook designed to protect human rights online—taking effect this year. In that time, the bloc was forced to deal with the problems created by US platforms, while being unable to foster their smaller European challengers. “Maybe we could have prevented [the problems] better by earlier regulation,” Brando Benifei, one of two lead negotiators for the European Parliament, told WIRED in July. AI technology is moving fast. But it will still be many years until it’s possible to say whether the AI Act is more successful in containing the downsides of Silicon Valley’s latest export.

I think part of it is because it's both an anti-system and belief in grand gestures/magical thinking combined together.
Even not factoring in his more controversial decisions, A lot of people just don't value the idea of fixing the system, or trying to make a better one. They want the grand gesture, the big revolution that tears down all the uncomfortable nitty gritty things in one big fell swoop with guns blazing and slogans abound. The IMAGE of revolution is more valuable and important to them than actually doing the hard work, especially if they believe it proves them morally superior to the system and those who are part of it. That's why they never have any real solutions, or why they get so offended at the idea of actually trying to do the tougher work; because it might stain their purity of their anti-system beliefs and require them to actually do the work that requires compromise and difficult choices that don't feel good, but are the only real path forward because we don't live in a morally clean and pure world.
yeah maybe, I think the death of the information ecosystem is likely a bigger issue?
its not so much people don't value positive changes that are reforms rather than revolutionary, its that they literally are not aware they're happening at all.
I mean people under say 40? 45? are very unlikely to get their info from traditional media (which has its own serious problems) and the younger you go the smaller the % who read news from news sources (or watch TV news) most are getting info off social media and you either have nothing OR! super negative often bad faith takes on what Biden's doing has done
I mean for example, in December 2022 just before Christmas Biden signed a bill to block a rail strike, and everyone totally freaked and acted like Biden was an 1800s Gilded Age Barron sending in the Pinkertons and totally anti-union etc etc etc so much breathless madness.
come June 2023 the rail union had gotten what it wanted on sick days and openly thanked President Biden for his support in working through those months to pressure the railways and get the union what it needed, that second part of course isn't fun to make into a meme so I imagine most people never ever saw it.
thats one example but it keeps happening where people take the worst possible interpretation of what Biden is doing and then don't care about any follow up

a/n: nothing in this story can be tolerated nor condoned in reality, remember this is just an ff. It's only meant to satisfy the readers!
Love is blind. Love is a blessing and a curse at the same time. It felt so unreal but at the same time so real as their skin pressed against each other in a slow and sensual rhythm over the past few hours.
A declaration of love escaping their mouths one after another as they dwell in their bliss and pleasure.
His dainty icy fingers trailed down to her face, neck, arms and hips — stroking it as if she was the most fragile thing in the world, to be held and to be comforted, to be protected and loved dearly — a feeling that no one could ever deny nor refuse.
It was a blessing, a miracle, a rare gift that anyone could found in a lifetime. Once seen, should held, once held should be protected, that was what was taught to us a child.
"Sooha?"
Her eyes fluttered open amidst the bliss she was in, "Hm?.."
The tight grip she had on his bare arms had left a nail marks on it, a hiss left his mouth as he pulled her hands off and planted a soft kiss on it earning a sigh of bliss from the girl.
"Thank you."
"For w-what? Ah!" A sudden and soft thrust hits the sweet spot inside her making her eyes roll to the back of her head in complete pleasure.
"For giving me the honour to be one with you tonight." Another thrust, a yelp left the girl's mouth, another gentle kiss on her hands as he continued to do so.
The girl wasn't able to make out of words as she was drowning in the pleasure the man was giving to her, but one thing's for sure; she was in utter heaven, happiness engulfed her being as she couldn't believe that she had strike the jackpot. The lush black hair that had sticked to the young man's forehead due to the sweat trailing down his flushed cheeks, his doe eyes staring deep into her soul — words that she could imagine were written on his eyes; love, genuine love.
"E-.. Ethan, I'm even m-more luckier-" another yelp escape from her mouth as the bed creaked in the process, her fingers interlocked with his in a tight grip. "T-to have you.."
A scream. An utter scream of pleasure emits in the dimly light room one after another.
The night was still young, the moon was still up in the sky bestowing it's pure moonlight on it's people.
Clink, clank.
Clink, clank.
The young man stood in silence as he dressed up himself in his luxury black suit after taking a shower, his eyes lingering on the girl worn out and tired but in a complete satisfaction as she laid her head on the pillow, her hair sticking out all over the pillow as her chest rose and fell.
"Thank you." The young man stood beside the bed with a sweet smile adorning his face as he grabbed the girl's hand, rubbing it in a gentle manner in which she smiled in return, taking in the wonderful sight of her lover.
Her lover. The man she randomly bumped into while rushing to work with a cup of coffee in her hand, resulting in a complete mess on his seemingly expensive suit. An apology she did as she shut her eyes tight while bowing down in complete embarassment, vowing to pay no matter what but to her surprise — it was met with an abashed chuckle, and a pleasant melody of his deep voice flowing through her ears "It's okay, you can perhaps repay me back with a favour someday?"
And with that, she raised her head looking up only to see the man in question rubbing his neck with his lip pressed in a tight manner as he opened it again, voicing his innocent request, "See that restaurant over there?"
Across the street, there stands a highly expensive restaurant with people in a classy attire entering and exiting with a shiny black car being opened for them.
Something she could never dreamed of getting her cheap brown heels into.
"I- I couldn't-" gulping in utter embarassment, unable to finish her words.
"No, I wasn't implying that!" A chuckle escaped from his sweet orange lips that flashes a questionable thought right through her mind, his lips must taste sweet isn't?
Eyes widening in the process, ashamed of what she had thought over a complete stranger she had met on a street.
"I was saying, I'll treat you to a dinner and perhaps get to know each other?"
She couldn't believe what she had heard, jaw dropping over the request of this man in front of her. Tall and beaming, nearly looking like almost a giant if he had even tried to close the distance between them again. His lush black hair flowing along with the gentle wind with grace as it covers parts of his innocent bright eyes that crinkled in the little smiles, almost resembling the half moon. He looks intimidating at first sight which answers the fact why she was so afraid at first, but she couldn't believe how shy he was. Almost like an innocent boy in a grown man's body, his little habits of biting his lip as he couldn't supressed the slight grin appearing on his lips.
Despite the obvious damage she had done to his suit.
She chuckled, clearing her throat as she, too, realise her slightly flushed cheeks over the hot young man in front of her, "I don't know your name yet, and you're asking me out for a dinner? Wouldn't be too straightforward?.. Especially your suit.."
"N-no! No. Don't worry about it, I could get a new one. I could always get a new one." a slight chuckle emits in the air as he looked down and then raising it to look her deep in the eyes, "But I don't know if I could ever get the chance to meet someone like you again."
A thud. A two. Then a third. Her heartbeat jumped in surprise and blood rushing up to her cheeks further flushing the faint like tomato on her face.
"My name's Ethan, how about yours?"
A short and seemingly innocent requests which then turn into flirty remarks, a simple exchange of name which leads to a whole new chapter- no a book, a whole new world seemingly like a fairy tale one.
Ethan, he was a perfect picture of a kind-hearted and gentle prince from the fairy tale books and she was the damsel in distress.
In which he often corrects it as his queen. His queen that he promises the world and everything in it.
And tonight was the night they sealed their fates to each other, just a day before their grand wedding in private and expensive wedding venue and before his family, her soon to be in-laws. Imagining herself in the big and lacy patterned wedding dress she had tried on a week before, the price tag on it that she swore she could never pay until she dies, and the cinderella-like heels that costs over a thousand jewels embedded into it which was specifically made for her.
Who could've thought a simple accident with a coffee could turn into a fairy tale book?
Or so she thought.
Love is blind.
Low chuckle emits in the air, sighing blissfully as he couldn't help but be baffled over the worn out girl on the bed.
One simple declaration of love and she had already allowed him to shoved himself deeper within her save haven. Her safe haven that she willfully gave him over a few sweet promises.
A family, a perfect man, a promised life and future, and money.
Truly, it baffles him that a simple words tainted with a promise for the future and a dose of pleasant tone, sweet to hear and tasty to consume does the young girl beneath him were enough to be drunk on the love he was giving onto her.
His once love-filled eyes turned into a heavy dark and sinister ones as he let the girl fell into her slumber.
This was just the beginning of his plan.
Days passed in a complete agony and impatience as Sooha sat on the edge of the bed with the phone on her hand, red eyes brimming in tears as she bit her nails in fear of her lover's life on the other side of the line.
"W-what? They are hunting you down? For what? What did you even do? Why would they?!"
Questions one after another, with almost half of them left unanswered.
"I don't know." Sooha's heart broke down into pieces as she was forced to hear her lover's cry of pain, she could only imagine how he look like right now. Bruised and ragged, worn out and no one by his side accompany him through his troubles. "I need you. I really need you r-right now, Sooha- we only have each other right now."
And of course, she exclaimed her love for him without much thought. Of course, he was her lover.
"Ethan, don't worry. I won't leave you. Tell me. Tell me how can I help you?!"
Silence.
"E-Ethan?"
"I-i.. need some money. I couldn't use my credit card because they could trace me down and who knows what could t-they do to me, Sooha.." a couple of sniffs and then another bawls of tears emits on the other side of the line.
"M-money? You say?" She hesitated but continued, "H-how much?"
A day turned into a two, a week turned into a month. A month turned into a year.
By then, it was too late when she realised.
Too late, too late.
She had been fooled as her grip tightens around her phone, screaming and bawling in tears as she punched her chest countless of times, choking in her tears unable to bring out any words. Her heart felt like it it was stomped mercilessly, broken into pieces as she had couldn't believe what had happened. Not only her heart, her body, or her undying love she had given but every last bit of her hard-earned money were given to that man she called her 'lover'.
Her lover that she loved so much that she spent day and night taking out loans from every place she could ever think of for him, just for him. Him.
But how atrocious it was when one day he didn't answer her phone calls nor her texts messages. He was gone without a trace in the world. She reported it off to the police at once still in hopes that this might not be the case, and that he'd only got into an minor accident unexplainable things could've happen, but no.
In the depths of the crawling fear in her mind, she was right.
She was fooled.
"Ms. Sooha, the guy you've been meeting this entire time was not the guy you think he was—"
Shattered she was, broken to her core with the tears unable to form in her eyes anymore due to the atrocious betrayal she had been cursed upon to.
She knew it was her fault too.
She thought she had strike the jackpot; the perfect prince, her prince.
Foolish indeed.
And her perfect prince has his newly bought leather shoes go on a walk across the street in a bright sunny day, his attire consisting of a white plain shirt with a few buttons off, revealing a bit of his toned chest with his dark brown jacket thrown over his right shoulder. His once perfectly straightened hair was now messy almost resembling your handsome neighbour next door.
Heeseung takes in the fresh fragrance of the city, whistling in a carefree way as he walked across the street, passing each and different lady taking a quick glances at him and some was bold enough to approach him and ask for his number.
This was nothing new for him, in fact, it's now part of his daily life. To dig in the money of the countless of women who had taken an interest in him, their manicured fingers stroking his face as he held their other hand planting yet another soft kiss with a shy confession.
He knew what they wanted, and he gave it to them. A hot young man that perfectly fits every women's ideal type; tall, innocent eyes but with intimidating aura, a man that could protect you and held you close in his embrace as he profess his undying love for you.
A perfect copy of a fairy tale prince, or the perfect dream, to be exact. A dream that was too good to be true and yet—
And yet, they're still fallen for it with a big and wide smile on their face and he knew that their hearts and their minds were running with what if's and how is this possible, and just like that, he'll manipulate them and turned his words into their very unique piece of fairy tale.
Heeseung was baffled again, those girls thought that they had strike the jackpot. They thought they were the player of the game, and that they had won and conquered the finest and valuable chess piece; him.
But what they didn't know was that he was the owner and the maker of the chess board. The game and the player themselves both functions in his will and desires. He pulled the player's strings on and off, left and right, up and down and they felt that they were dancing in bliss with their own will — not aware that they were just a marionette dancing like a foolish in their own dreams.
"H-help me!" Heeseung's thoughts were snapped into thin air as he turned to the fragile voice hidden in the depths of the dark alley.
So weak, so small. How pathetic as he stared at the young girl forced against her will as a man amongst his other friends rubbed his body against her on the wall.
"Don't you think you're getting a bit too overboard here?" Heeseung smiled a little as the man stopped immediately upon hearing him, his face splattered with annoyance all over it.
"None of your business. If you don't wanna get beaten up to a pulp then get lost."
Heeseung took notice of the girl's frame, and he could only supressed his chuckle as his guesses were right; small, weak and fragile. The plain brown buttoned shirt that were ripped in half almost showing your inner top, your floral skirt that covered down to your knee and your old-fashioned shoes.
You.
Everything about you speaks the lowest and deepest point of human's social status.
You weep silently as you turned to the man you could perhaps call your saviour if he don't change his mind right now and your breathe hitched at the breathtaking sight of him. You wish you could take a picture of him right now but you were sure nothing could capture his beauty.
In a split moment, you felt like you were nothing compared to him. Everything about him speaks to you that your gonna never be able to touch him with your dirty stained hands.
He was clean and you were dirty.
"Do you know him?" He speaks to you and you felt as if your tongue was cut off over how he softly speaks to you as if you were a feather bound to be broken anytime.
You stayed silent.
"Fuck, just get lost. I bought her with my own fucking money so she's mine. If you want one, go to that- fuck what's the name again?"
You tightened your grip on your skirt, clenching it in utter embarassment.
"Whatever, listen here. That brothel is just right over there so just turn your dumb head and get lost, okay bro?"
You yelp in pain when the man leans in to pepper kisses on your neck again, you were too weak to kick him off, to weak to do anything. You were so weak it pains you so much and especially him.
"The fuck do you want?!" It happens in a blink of an eye when you realise the man who had assaulted you were hit with a full blown punch resulting in him falling on the ground with a loud thud. "Fuck you! Who the fuck do you think you are?!"
"Well? You're forcing her against her will, that's basically consent now, right?" Heeseung tilted his head in a mocking manner as he clicked his tongue inside his cheek. This was odd. He shouldn't have done that.
So why?
His veins felt like it was on raging fire and his hand clenched to the point his knuckles had gone white. He didn't know why he were so affected and tensed up over what happen.
But seeing you there all messed up because of them gave him such a uneasy feeling, the moment you raised your eyes to look at him — it made him felt something weird.
"Huh?!!!"
"It means I don't need your fucking consent to teach you a lesson, bastard!!" You watched as chaos unfolds in front of you.
"No! No! Please stop! Don't—" your cries of protests were ignored by him.
Chaos it was, you were sure there was no way he could fight against the many of them.
The tight grip on your floral skirt has loosen as you watched them with a deep fear splattered on your face and eyes shutting tight to avoid the horrific sight unraveling before you, you immediately raised your palms — a helpless attempt to cover your face with your dirt stained hands.
It was scary, you couldn't take it in as you were in utter fear as your ears were forced to hear the cries of pain who god knows who.
It was unbearable, you were too weak. Too precious for this world. Too fragile to live in this world.
Too small, too weak, too . . .
— too bad.
Your lips slowly tugged up in the slightest grins behind the hands covering your sinister eyes.
"Looks like we got ourself another victim." you thought to yourself, chuckling lowly as you opened the gap of your fingers which revealed your eyes to the sweet and hot chaos before you.
Him.

Peek into the eclectic wardrobe of one of the world’s most popular singer-songwriters at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)’s latest exhibit, Taylor Swift: Storyteller, opening Saturday at Columbus Circle.
The retrospective showcases decades of Swift’s costumes, props, jewelry and other visual elements from the 12-time Grammy Award-winning musician’s prolific career, including the highly recognizable ballerina and cheerleader ensembles from 2014’s Shake it Off , the gem-adorned one-piece from 2022’s Bejeweled and the striking Nicole + Felicia red wedding dress from 2021’s I Bet You Think About Me — all selected by MAD’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Craft, and Design Alexandra Schwartz.
Swift’s team reached out to Alexandra after seeing the work done by fellow curator Elissa Auther with artist Machine Dazzle on his Queer Maximalism exhibit, but she admits that she wasn’t intimately familiar with Swift’s catalog prior to working on Storyteller. “I knew her big hits, but I didn’t know her work all that well,” Alexandra told W42ST. “I have learned a lot in this process — it’s been fascinating getting to see how she’s developed as an artist and in addition to her songwriting, learn that she’s such a brilliant business person who has navigated combining that songwriting and artistry with being this incredibly successful performer.”
After working on 2022’s Garmenting: Costume as Contemporary Art at MAD, the curator had a robust working framework with which to tackle Swift’s large catalog of designs. “In Garmenting, we were coming at it from the perspective of artists rather than designers,” said Alexandra. “I teach part-time at the Fashion Institute of Technology and I got to know fashion history and theory and learned about curating fashion through that exhibit’s experience.” She added, “I’m fascinated by how clothes are part of our culture — not just in terms of the choices that we make about what we wear, but what they mean on a broader societal level and what they say about contemporary culture.”
Swift’s reputation for integrating visual storytelling into her music videos, red carpet appearances and concerts was an inspiration and Alexandra found plenty of symbolic messaging in the songwriter’s clothing choices. ”She creates an entire world through her work,” said Alexandra. “Her videos are these very complete thought-out worlds she’s created and her performances are as well — her garments and her costumes are a huge part of that. She’s very, very intentional about what she wears in performance, how those garments help to tell a story.”
For Swift, “the element of fantasy is really important and enticing and fun — but what’s been interesting in working on this show is that she really does see all of her different creative endeavors: the videos, the design, the costumes, as a part of her songwriting and her storytelling craft as a songwriter,” said Alexandra.
Swift also loves to leave hidden messages for her notoriously eagle-eyed fanbase.”She’s famous for her Easter eggs,” said Alexandra, “and it is very interesting how she’ll refer back to other times in her career and her storytelling through her songs.” She added, “One thing that I find interesting about her, and she’s talked about this herself, is that she is very aware that as a performer, and especially as a female performer she has to always change her image to capture people’s attentions, keep them interested and keep them thinking about her music in a different way. I think a lot of her costumes and her videos show that sort of self-awareness.”
Swift’s tendency to keep fans guessing extends to her choices in designer, added Alexandra. “There are quite a few costumes by Jessica Jones, who works with many different performers,” she said, “but what she wears in performance varies. Some costumes are by couture fashion designers, like the Versace and Marchesa, but then she’ll wear faux fur jacket by Free People mixed with Louis Vuitton boots — it’s interesting to see how she combines things.”
After studying the singer’s catalog and costumes, Alexandra gained a newfound appreciation for Swift’s creative process and impact on global audiences. “Seeing the craftmanship of the costumes is incredible,” she said, “It’s a treat to see all the embroidering and decoration and beading on these pieces up close.”
As Taylor Swift: Storyteller readies for opening, Alexandra can’t wait to welcome passionate Swifties to the exhibit. “It’s going to be fascinating to see,” she replied. “It’s been great already to see the buzz about it and hear about people who are planning to come to New York to see the exhibit. I’ve just gotten to know the Swiftie community in the last couple of months and it’s intense!” she laughed. “It’s very exciting that so many fans are going to be here and I really hope they enjoy it!”

today completes 32 years of the carandiru prison massacre!
on october 2, 1992, a riot began in carandiru jail. it was the biggest prison in brasil and one of, if not the biggest in latin america. it was meant to house around 3500 men.
by that day, there were 9800.
the riot began in the morning. by the early afternoon, the police shock force had entered the seven pavilions which made up the detention center. by the end of the afternoon, the sounds of sirens, gunshots and unintelligible yells had been sure ringing out in the ears of the neighborhood — despite being a massive jail, an equally large neighborhood had been informally built around the seven pavilions.
if you tried hard enough that day, you might've seen a glimpse of the massacre that followed from the windows of the train that followed along the tracks right in front of the jail.
the news and police helicopters flew in circles in the sky, the news and police vans honked and screeched around the street. the murderous police dogs barked while the families of the inmates shrieked and sobbed — their wails immortalized in the reporter's cameras. 111 inmates had been murdered by the police.
the images shown in brazilian televisions that day are perhaps some of the most shocking and gruesome that we had ever seen. there were two that stuck in public conscience the most. the two that, if you ask any brazilian about the massacre, will be the first to pop into their heads.
the first, men, hundreds of them, naked, lined up, some with blood on their skin, in the same fetal position on the hot floor. survivors. the same black hair, the same dark skin, the same vultures in armor that patrolled around them. this would be the poster for the movie carandiru (2003) dir. hector babenco.
youtube
the second, blood, crimson, as we had never seen before. dripping down the green floors and walls, the rusted jail cells, the dirty cotton beds. an entire hallway covered in blood, and the vague silhouette of the men that had been left to clean it. of course, there were no pictures released to the press of the men whose bodies the blood belonged to. mostly. brazilian media has always hated prison inmates — there were no doubt those who laughed as the massacre happened. this would be one of the more striking images of racionais MC's diário de um detento (an inmate's journal) a song detailed the day before, during, and after the massacre. "adolf hitler smiles in hell" has always been my favorite line from it.
youtube
in 2002, the governor of são paulo ordered the jail to be bombed and demolished.
in 2012, a library and a public park had been opened in its place. the park is called "parque da juventude" (youth park).
in 2022, president bolsonaro pardoned the men who had been court martialed for the massacre. on the same years of its 30th anniversary, the president has pardoned men who had murdered 111 inmates in cold blood, murderers with families and wives and husbands and daughters and sons and granddaughters and grandsons and mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers.
in 2024, a few weeks ago — close to the massacre's 32th birthday — the são paulo justice court labelled this pardon "constitutional".
it really makes you wonder if some things ever change.
#i didnt mention it here but this is a personak story to me#i didnt have any family members or acquaintances who were in the prison#but i live 20 minutes away from it#every time i take the train i pass by what once was that prison#i went to the park and library when i was a child#i think of it often#Youtube

Please please share some coding/designing wisdom. Your game is so damn pretty 😭😭😭 Could you tell us what template you used and how hard it was to make it look like it is today? I imagine so much work must have gone into it
😭😭 I am no expert, but these are just my rationale/methods behind the visual choices I made!
For the template I used—I used Vahnya's Template! However, this post by @/manonamora-if has a whole section for templates that I wish I saw or checked out before making my IF! In another lifetime, I might've just used nyehilism's template to achieve the bottom sidebar instead of torturing myself learning how to do it... ;;
Below, I go into detail the timeline of designing Uroboros, as well as advice through the process I went!
Design Timeline
I started designing the UI late October 2022, and kept fixing, changing, editing it well into February and maybe a little bit of March 2023.
October 2022 - Early iterations of the design. Looked for stock images and began implementing it to add a background to the sidebar and the actual passages. Swatched some color palettes and began implementing them into the IF. Later decided to make the sidebar on the bottom instead of on the side. Also, added a title screen.
November - Testing different backgrounds for the IF's sidebar. Added a textbox to the passages, also worked on the black fade transitions.
December - Finished working on the sidebar background for both light and dark theme, began work on the background of the IF instead.
January 2023 - Finished working on the dark and light theme backgrounds! Started work on drawing the skill icons for light and dark theme, and finished!
February - Changed the title screen to look better on mobile, created a circle logo, added a border to the textbox. Also, made further edits for light theme.
March - Just remade the "Uroboros" logo.
If you're wondering why it took approximately 5 months to get to the final version—don't worry! I wasn't working only on the design for 5 months. My partner helped make the edits for the design, while I worked on coding them in and writing.
I spent a lot of time trying to get a grasp on Javascript, SugarCube, and HTML all throughout this time as well, to know how to fluidly add these things. Meaning, while I was working on these visual elements, I was also figuring out how to do the "looking" mechanic, black and white transitions, figuring out how Tweego worked, radio buttons, and so on.
Do note I've been busy the entire time throughout, so perhaps you can do this much quicker than I can!
The "Secrets"
1. Please—look at IFs you love! What are some visual aspects of other IFs that you love and want to include in your story? I started by analyzing parts of other IFs that I love. I liked Wayfarer's textbox; I liked how the choices looked in When Twilight Strikes. I liked the textboxes in the beginning of Zorlok. Find the things that amaze you about other IFs, and implement it your own way!
This seems like super basic advice—but trust me, once you think, "How can I put this in my game?" you will not only be able to have it, but most likely, you'll also learn a LOT.
While seeing how I could make the radio buttons, for example, I started researching. I googled "How to live change text?" and then I found out about jQuery, how to use the replace macro, etc. etc. JUST from researching how to do exactly one (1) feature.
2. What is missing in other IFs? Think about your own reading experience. I didn't like the clunkiness of some, how the sidebar is on the side when space on a mobile-screen is severely limited length-wise. So, I put the sidebar on the bottom.
I didn't like how other choices look in IFs, so I wanted a way to do mine that's nice and elegant(though it's still a little hard to read, admittedly).
Again, researching how to do the things you want opens many doors for you. I learned how to style <li> and change how bullets look, learned how to style links in Twine in general, etc. etc. again with just this ONE thing I wanted to change/add.
3. Don't do the work all by yourself. I struggled so hard because I hate asking for help. I was happy to Google other people's problems, but I never thought to open up my own thread or ask anybody in the community for help. Please, not only ask, but also—your work doesn't have to be completely original.
Use templates. Look at manon's amazing masterlist of things you can implement. I also have a few macro's that you can use, like multipronouns for MC, that does the work for you, for free.
Rip people's codes—respectfully. I'm not saying from other IFs, but online in other places. If they appear on help forums or are publicly available through places like CodePen, chances are that they're open-source or licensed in such a way that anyone can use it (e.g. MIT license).
Again, here is Manon's masterlist, which includes custom macros you can use in your game (Chapel, HiEv and Cycy are my high recommendations)! Additionally, here's my code for multipronouns here and my code for setting RO genders here.
4. MAKE IT READABLE!! Even if you want your game to look pretty... please, I'm begging you, make it easy to read. This is the most important thing ever.
I have a short attention span, and so does my partner. We reviewed the game to make sure we are NOT compromising the reading experience with our design. As much as we want fantastical backgrounds, we wanted to make sure it was at least not distracting. As much as we want gaudy styles, we want the actual passage to be suited for the long haul.
The most, most important part is to enhance the reading experience--not by adding things on, but by making it simple and intuitive. As someone in the computer science field, the user experience is CRITICAL. Put yourself in their shoes, think about them first and foremost.
Twine is amazingly customizable, and its powers can be wielded for good and evil. Plenty of amazing writers but inexperienced UI designers, especially from CoG, get into Twine. CoG almost completely takes away the design element, so Twine is a whole new ballpark.
Uroboros has a lot of pomp, but the actual textbox is uncharacteristically simple in comparison. The simplicity against an otherwise fantastical, but non-distracting background helps give it elegance. The sidebar, in contrast, is very eye-catching—but, it's also out of view most of the time, and isn't built for long reading.
To add on, make sure it's readable on mobile. I guarantee 80% of your readers are going to be reading your IF on their phone, and probably at 3 AM, so you will want the mobile to look as good as PC, or even better.
Closing Thoughts
Anyway, as basic as this advice is, this is really what guided my entire thought process behind my visual choices! -- Picking and choosing what you like from IFs, figuring out how to do them through research, and making sure your IF is built to be read for a while.
Thanks so much for asking, thinking that I have wisdom to impart!! 😭🫶💕

Let's Talk Costuming: The Globe Costume Collection
Alright my loves this is a very slight tangent to my usual Good Omens direct analysis but I promise it's vaguely related! Inspired by a comment from @theonevoice on my analysis of the costumes used in the Shakespearean scene, which were borrowed direct from The Globe's costume collection, I went on a self-indulgent research journey into Shakespearean costume design history.
So the question that started it all was whether Crowley's outfit in this scene could potentially have been worn or designed for a "classic" Hamlet in its past life. With theatrical costume collections, these items are worn again and again by actors for different shows and even lent out, depending on the shop, to other productions. It's one of my favorite things about live theatre. This means that all of the gorgeous costumes worn for this scene have been worn at least once, likely many times, for other shows.
I was largely on the lookout for anything black that David might have worn here, with little luck on specific pieces, but I'm here to share what I've found that was similar and/or interesting!
[gorgeous postcard with lots of cool costumes, leaving it as a link so y'all can see it in full glory]
[Olivia and Malvolio, Twelfth Night, The Globe, 2013]
[Hamlet, Hamlet, San Diego Central Library exhibit borrowed from Old Globe Theatre, production 2007]
[Hamlet set sketch, Cyril Walter, 20th century]
[costume workshop, image from Royal Shakespeare Company]
[Hamlet, The Globe, 2022]
At my most optimistic, I was hoping to strike gold and perhaps find evidence of the use of these glorious costumes from the past, but either way I had a blast tracking down Shakespearean costumes for y'all's enjoyment.
