Motorist Consideration Monday
Motorist Consideration Monday is dedicated to being considerate, patient, and courteous while traveling, no matter what one's mode of transportation is—whether it be by car, bike, public transportation, or even by walking. The day is part of Be Kind To Humankind Week, "a celebration of people and the kind acts they perform all across the globe," which was created in 1988 by Lorraine Jara of Toms River, New Jersey.
How to Observe
Some ways to be a considerate motorist today as suggested by Be Kind To Humankind Week include:
Move over for emergency vehicles.
Do not speed.
Turn on your lights in the daytime so you are more visible to other vehicles.
Don't pass stopped school buses. Also, kids riding buses should make sure to be considerate to their drivers.
Don't engage in road rage.
Don't tailgate or drive aggressively.
Do not drink and drive.
Let fellow motorists merge in front of you.
Yield to pedestrians.
Wear a safety belt and use child safety seats for all children.
Don't text and drive.
Slow down if the weather is bad.
Some other ways to be a considerate motorist today include:
Leave a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
Drive a safe speed. Base this on the speed limit, but also on factors such as traffic, weather, and road surface.
Make sure other drivers don't have to brake when you move into their space.
Use your blinker when turning or changing lanes, and make sure to turn it on far enough in advance.
Make sure to come to a full stop at stop signs, and never run a red light.
Don't block intersections.
Don't pass on the right.
Drive in the middle or right lanes, instead of in the left lane, which is for passing.
As a pedestrian, make sure to use crosswalks.
As a cyclist, make sure to use hand signals and to wear a helmet.

Princess Peach Month Post #1 | Monday, 08.26.24
It's almost the end of August, which is known by Nintendo as "Princess Peach Month", so I'll post on a few random games featuring Peach, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom right now.
Games featuring Princess Peach - Part 1:
Super Mario Bros. (Famicom/NES, 1985)
As the very first game in the Super Mario Bros. series, it also marks the overall debut of Princess Peach, princess of the Mushroom Kingdom who was kidnapped by series antagonist, Bowser, only for both Mario and/or Luigi to rescue her at the end of World 8-4, which is mandatory to beat the game after defeating Bowser.
Tumblr media
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Famicom/NES, 1988)
As a direct sequel to the previous game (excluding The Lost Levels), it's also Peach's first time as a playable character alongside Toad. Despite this, she's physically the weakest when it comes to grabbing enemies or objects, but to compensate for this, she excels at briefly floating mid-air after jumping. After defeating new villain, Wart, Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Toad are celebrated as heroes for saving the inhabitants of Subcon, though the events of the game could be debatable since the ending of the game implies that this could be from Mario's dreams as he was sleeping.
Tumblr media
Super Mario Bros. 3 (Famicom/NES, 1988)
At the end of each world being cleared (excluding Worlds 7 and 8), Princess Peach provides a random power to either Mario or Luigi during their journey to save the Mushroom Kingdom again, but when the players clear World 7, Bowser appears out of nowhere, revealing that he's kidnapped the princess again. After beating Bowser once more, the game ends with Mario and/or Luigi rescuing her once again.
Super Mario World (Super Famicom/SNES, 1990)
Following the events of Super Mario Bros. 3, Peach, Mario, and Luigi took their vacation to Dinosaur Island, only for Bowser and his seven Koopalings to kidnap her once again. With help from their new pal, Yoshi (who makes his official debut in the series with this game), Mario and Luigi rescue Peach again and resume their vacation.
Tumblr media
Stay tuned for part 2!

"Millions of Australians just got official permission to ignore their bosses outside of working hours, thanks to a new law enshrining their "right to disconnect."
The law doesn't strictly prohibit employers from calling or messaging their workers after hours. But it does protect employees who "refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact or attempted contact outside their working hours, unless their refusal is unreasonable," according to the Fair Work Commission, Australia's workplace relations tribunal.
That includes outreach from their employer, as well as other people "if the contact or attempted contact is work-related."
The law, which passed in February, took effect on Monday [August 26, 2024] for most workers and will apply to small businesses of fewer than 15 people starting in August 2025. It adds Australia to a growing list of countries aiming to protect workers' free time.
"It's really about trying to bring back some work-life balance and make sure that people aren't racking up hours of unpaid overtime for checking emails and responding to things at a time when they're not being paid," said Sen. Murray Watt, Australia's minister for employment and workplace relations.
The law doesn't give employees a complete pass, however...
"If it was an emergency situation, of course people would expect an employee to respond to something like that," Watt said. "But if it's a run-of-the-mill thing … then they should wait till the next work day, so that people can actually enjoy their private lives, enjoy time with their family and their friends, play sport or whatever they want to do after hours, without feeling like they're chained to the desk at a time when they're not actually being paid, because that's just not fair."
Protections aim to address erosion of work-life balance
The law's supporters hope it will help solidify the boundary between the personal and the professional, which has become increasingly blurry with the rise of remote work since the COVID-19 pandemic.
A 2022 survey by the Centre for Future Work at the Australia Institute, a public policy think tank, found that seven out of 10 Australians performed work outside of scheduled working hours, with many reporting experiencing physical tiredness, stress and anxiety as a result.
The following year, the institute reported that Australians clocked an average of 281 hours of unpaid overtime in 2023. Valuing that labor at average wage rates, it estimated the average worker is losing the equivalent of nearly $7,500 U.S. dollars each year.
"This is particularly concerning when worker's share of national income remains at a historically low level, wage growth is not keeping up with inflation, and the cost of living is rising," it added.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions hailed the new law as a "cost-of-living win for working people," especially those in industries like teaching, community services and administrative work.
The right to disconnect, it said, will not only cut down on Australians' unpaid work hours but also address the "growing crisis of increasing mental health illness and injuries in modern workplaces."
"More money in your pocket, more time with your loved ones and more freedom to live your life — that's what the right to disconnect is all about," ACTU President Michele O’Neil said in a statement.
The 2022 Australia Institute survey... found broad support for a right to disconnect.
Only 9% of respondents said such a policy would not positively affect their lives. And the rest cited a slew of positive effects, from having more social and family time to improved mental health and job satisfaction. Thirty percent of respondents said it would enable them to be more productive during work hours.
Eurofound, the European Union agency for the improvement of living and working conditions, said in a 2023 study that workers at companies with a right to disconnect policy reported better work-life balance than those without — 92% versus 80%."

Lots of debate on the timeline of events in the outsiders and ages fitting into that, but according to Hinton Pony was born July 22, and he'd been 14 for about a month (line in the movie) when the main events kick off. That would put the murder during late August, which is exactly when that schoolyear would be starting. They only hide out for 5 days, which would put them at early September when they end up back home.
The rumble, Johnny's death, Dally's death, and Pony's concussion fainting happens the night after they get home.
Ponyboy comes to after 3 days, then ends up on bedrest for another week, where he displays delusional thought.
The Juvenile Court hearing presumably occurs shortly after that bedrest, as Pony is still not considered fit to testify on the murder, placing it squarely into the month of September.
It's not super clear how long the depressive episode lasts for Pony, but it's long enough that he is failing his classes and Syme is offering to bring him up to a C. Recalling my high school days, overall grades for fall semester were usually evident by like mid October, so I would give Pony 2-3 weeks, maybe a full month before Syme reaches out.
However, we also know Pony was procrastinating on his assignment, it's part of Darry's nagging iirc, so that + the theme being a final project for the semester, it was probably due mid-late November/maaaayyybe early December.
This is where ages come in bc some of the ages we have from the TV Show Bible don't align with the story's events happening in August.
However.
We know that we are reading Ponyboy's theme. It ends cyclical to the beginning, and there's also evident effort on Ponyboy's end to avoid writing profanity into his recollection. He's 14, been to Hell and back, and also procrastinated on his essay. That is to say, I'd believe it if the argument was made that for some of the surviving characters, he just mentioned how old they were at the time of writing.
Side note, too, that the musical does corroborate the main events happening in late August imo, as it explicitly ties the Curtis Parents' deaths to Darry's birthday; Darry was born January 5, and they died 8 months before the story took place; 8 months from January is obviously September, technically. However. Looking at the calendar year for 1967 (the musical is bumped up 2 years), Darry's birthday fell on the first Thursday of January. If Pony's birthday is July 22nd and it's been a month (not confirmed in the musical to have been a month, but confirmed that he would be 15 next July), the Friday Night Drive-In encounter would have been August 25 (literally the first week of school), 7 months and 3 weeks after the crash; technically not 8 months, but extremely close. If we want to push it closer and move the events a week later, then the drive in would have happened September 1.
In conclusion, my proposed book timeline, cross-referenced with calendars and given school start dates:
Tuesday, January 5, 1965—Darry's Birthday, potentially also the death of Curtis Parents
Thursday, July 22, 1965—Ponyboy's 14th birthday
Thursday, August 26, 1965—Pony gets jumped
Friday, August 27, 1965—Pony goes to the drive-in, Johnny kills Bob (technically this happens in the wee hours of Saturday, but the jumping that led to it was a consequence of the drive in so I'm lumping them)
Saturday, August 28-Wednesday, September 1, 1965— (technically the actual time of Bob's murder) + Windrixville hideout + fire + Hospital reunion
Thursday, September 2, 1965—Rumble + Johnny's death + Dally's Death + Pony's concussion
Friday, September 3-Sunday, September 5, 1965—Pony in feverish delirium
Monday, September 6-Sunday, September 12, 1965—Pony on Bedrest
Monday, September 13, 1965—Juvenile Court
Tuesday, September 14, 1965-Depressive fugue begins
Monday, October 11 or 18, 1965—Mr Syme alerts Ponyboy of his failing grade+presents semester's final project in the form of a personal theme.
Mid November, 1965—theme is written

second year day 1 :3 Classes were chill today, not much happened. Spent an hour in the library reading some python concepts, and I came across something funny.
Duck typing is a concept in dynamic programming where the type of an object iss determined by its behaviour rather than its class definition. In other words, it's based on the idea that "if it walls like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is a duck."
Funny right?

Hi I'm Nat and as of Monday August 26, 2024 I am a bored college student. Who's in a pysch class despite not being a pysch major, I'm an education major and I think it's required class because there's a few other kids in my small major in my class
SO YOU MAY BE WONDERING "Hey Nat where is this going?" well you see I'm actually pretty familiar with psychology. I took AP Psychology my senior year of high school last I just got a 2 on the exam so need to retake it in college now.
In my college boredom and the need to spite my friend (hi @cheercake this is your fault!!) I have created a survey that has already wielded some interesting results.
Tumblr media
Here's the survey!!
This survey will be studying correlation and causation. Specifically the correlation between people have more dead grandparents and being attracted to Stan, Ford, or both.
My current results show that people with 1 or none dead usually don't find either attractive meanwhile people with 2 or more find at minimum 1 attractive. Feel free to prove me wrong this is just the trend I've noticed!!
Thank you for your participation!! Remember this is just for fun!!

Plant of the Day
Monday 26 August 2024
A vigorous semi-evergreen climber Lonicera × brownii 'Dropmore Scarlet' (honeysuckle) will flower over a long period from mid summer to late autumn. The terminal clusters of trumpet-shaped bright scarlet flowers looked striking against this black painted wall.

Define "Transformative" | Monday, 08.26.24
"Transformative".
FYI, the dictionary defines "transformative" as a way of describing a marked change either in someone or something.
Take this photo from X (formerly Twitter) for example:

Once Upon a Time...
Do you like fairy tales but find yourself wishing they weren't always so hetero-normative?
You're not alone. That's why we feel it's time to shake things up a bit and give some of these stories an LGBT+ update.
And that's exactly what this event is looking to do! This summer we invite you to re-imagine a classic story, or come up with one all your own, starring Fairy Tail characters!
Event Information
Dates: August 23 - August 26
Submissions: Anything that inspires you - art, fics of any length, poetry, aesthetics, edits, head canons, etc.. Both ship and platonic entries are welcome. The most important aspect is that the piece focus on an LGBT+ character(s).
Prompts: We've chosen two different tropes for each day from here that we thought might be fun, but you are welcome to pick others if they inspire you more!
Day 1 (Friday): Cursed ✦ True Love's Kiss
Day 2 (Saturday): Other Dimension ✦ Impossible Quest
Day 3 (Sunday): Abandoned Child ✦ Surprise Royalty
Day 4 (Monday): Forbidden Love ✦ (Un)Happily Ever After
Event Tag: Use the tag FTOUAT in your first five so that we can see it!
General Rules: No character bashing, pedophilia or incest, all content must be previously unpublished and original to the blog posting it. Tag all content appropriately for triggers.
If you have questions, send us an ask!
We love getting likes, but we'd appreciate it even more if you could reblog this post to help us get the word out!
