Dozens of Ukrainian children from a Russian-occupied city in Ukraine were taken to Belarus and sent to “emergency survival training” with the Belarusian military, according to local media.
The Belarus 4 Mogilev state television channel reported on Wednesday that 35 children from the city of Antratsyt in eastern Ukraine, which Russia has occupied since 2014, were sent to the eastern Belarusian city of Mogilev, where they were taught “how to behave in extreme situations” in exercises with the Belarusian military.
In the report, the children — some of whom are wearing tracksuits with Russian flags printed on their sleeves — are shown holding on to each other and covering their faces during a fire drill.
Thousands of Ukrainian children have been deported to Russia and Belarus from Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. In July 2023, Russian Children’s Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova put the figure of Ukrainian children “received” by Russia at 700,000, claiming most were accompanied by their parents or other relatives.
A study by Yale University found that between September 2022 and May 2023, over 2,400 Ukrainian children aged 6 to 17 were deported to Belarus from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine, which are occupied by Russian forces.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with a group of deported Ukrainian kids last month, promising to “embrace these children, bring them to our home, keep them warm and make their childhood happier.”
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lvova-Belova, accusing them of overseeing the “unlawful deportation” of Ukrainian children.

Novoprudye village, Mogilev region. The name originates from the «new pond» (mill), which was located on the Gnilka River, which is in the third photo. This mill was built in ancient times by a rich man of the settlement on the left bank of the previously named river. This settlement has not been preserved, however, as they say, traces of it can be found on the hill, which is called the «Church» – there was a church there. And that settlement was burned down during the Northern War of Russia with Sweden (1700-1721). Since then, the villagers began to settle on the left bank of the Gnilka River opposite the new pond

"Another librarian working in the district centre said that the management of the culture department decided to work "in advance":
"We are ordered to regularly review the "extremist list" in order to timely remove all prohibited items from the library collection. I'll say right away: we didn't have much that was forbidden."
But there was an instruction from the culture department to pay attention to books that criticize Russia and praise foreign countries too much, and to take them away as well. They are not on the list, but we were told that "suddenly they can be added."
According to the woman, the deleted "extremist" literature is partly in the library, and partly it was taken somewhere. Where - she does not know. Rumors have now spread among the libraries that everything "extremist" will have to be handed over centrally - either to the region or to Minsk. According to the TV story shown on the TV channel "Belarus 1", the National Library already has a "special screen". And this is the first official mention of such a specialized fund. Now the order is being determined, to whom and in what cases "extremist" books will be published. Presumably, researchers will have access to them with a referral from a specific scientific or educational institution, where the topic and purpose of the research will be specified.
History repeats itself, says one of the Belarusian scientists, who still remembers the Soviet "special forces":
"Until the end of the 1980s, the so-called special storage departments were not widely reported anywhere, there were no mentions of them in the library's work schedule, there were not even pointers to them in the corridor. But their existence was still known, primarily by scientists who had permission to work with forbidden literature. However, it was impossible to browse through something that was not related to your topic: everything was issued according to the list and under a personal signature."
"There were more than two thousand different editions and documents in it. The main reason why they got there is anti-Soviet propaganda, which the "ideologues" of that time saw everywhere. In 1955, the "special collection" in the Mogilev library was disbanded: 74 copies of various books and 39 copies of the magazine "Polyma" were transferred to the State Library of the BSSR. A total of 17 editions were returned to the common funds, the rest were destroyed - as it was written in the documents - "by small cutting". In this way, they dealt with the "ideologically foreign" books of the first president of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences Vsevolad Ignatowski, the founders of the BNR, Anton Lutskevich, Vaclav Lastowski, Yazep Lesik."
The authorities extended their total control to the sphere of book publishing. Of the twenty-three books recognized as extremist this year, a dozen and a half touch on the history or national identity of Belarusians. Among them, for example, "Forgotten Belarus" by Vadim Dzeruzhynski, "Records of the association of lovers of Belarusian history" named after Vaclav Lastouski, challenges of the "Russian peace" and Belarus. Issue 6" under the general editorship of Anatoly Taras. And even fiction - the works of Larisa Geniyush and Lidia Arabei."

Russia is withdrawing its aviation from Belarus
Diego Alves By Diego Alves 08/05/2023 - 16:00 in Military, War Zones
On the morning of August 5, 10 Russian Air Force military helicopters left Belarus towards Russia. They left the Machulishchy air base around 8:15 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. local time.
The group included 4 Mi-8 transport helicopters and 6 Mi-24 attack helicopters and approximately 20 crew members.
Russian helicopters were later observed over the Mogilev region. Most of them spent 209 days in Belarus (since January 8, 2023). Subsequently, they crossed the border with the Russian Federation and landed at the Russian air base of Seshcha, in the Bryansk region.

Later, around 2 p.m., another Russian Mi-24 helicopter took off from the Machulishchy air base.
It was the last helicopter of the Russian aviation group in Belarus. He went east, apparently going to the Seshcha air base as well.
During their stay in Belarus, this group of Russian helicopters lost an aviation equipment unit: in June, a Mi-24 helicopter of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed near Ivatsevichy.

At 1:30 p.m., a group of Su-34 bombers and Su-30SM multi-mission fighters took off from Baranovichi air base. They also passed through the Mogilev region and crossed the border. Most of these Russian warplanes spent 202 days in Belarus (on January 15, 2023).

As previously reported, Belarus allows Russia access to its territory to wage a large-scale war against Ukraine. From then on, Russian invasion forces advanced in the northern regions of Ukraine and Kiev in February 2022. In addition, last year, Russia actively bombed Ukrainian facilities from the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

Belarus reinforces border troops after accusing Ukraine of airspace violation
Belarus sent additional troops to strengthen its border with Ukraine, claiming Ukrainian drones violated its airspace during Kyiv’s military incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian chargé d’affaires and demanded that measures be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring.
It was pointed out…that if Ukraine’s diplomatic representation in Belarus cannot have an effect on preventing such provocations, the Belarusian side will raise the issue of the appropriateness of its continued presence in Minsk.
President Alexander Lukashenko stated that air defence forces on Friday destroyed several of “about a dozen” Ukrainian drones after they violated Belarusian airspace in the Mogilev region bordering Russia, according to Belarusian media.
I don’t understand why Ukraine had to do this. We have to look into it. But we have…made ourselves clear and conveyed to them that any provocation will not go unanswered.
However, Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation, accused Belarus that the build-up of arms deployments near the border was “an attempt to help Putin and divert the attention of Ukraine’s command to this sector.”
On Saturday, Russian troops reversed the situation in the Kursk region in their favour amid much misunderstanding of Ukraine’s actions by its allies. The countries consider an attack on one of Russia’s regions inexpedient, while Ukrainian military reserves are needed in the Donetsk region.

The ongoing incursion, which has entered its sixth day, has been described by Zelenskyy as a demonstration of Ukraine's capability to "restore justice and apply necessary pressure on the aggressor." As battles intensify, Russia has implemented a stringent security regime across three of its border regions. Concurrently, Belarus, a close ally of Moscow, has dispatched additional troops to its border with Ukraine, alleging that Kyiv has violated Belarusian airspace. Belarus Responds to Ukrainian Incursion Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that Belarusian air defense units destroyed numerous aerial targets originating from Ukraine over the Mogilev region on Friday evening. In response to the alleged airspace violations, Belarus has reinforced its border troops, accusing Ukrainian drones of entering its airspace during the ongoing military incursion into Russia's Kursk region. Lukashenko warned that any provocations from Ukraine would be met with a strong response, echoing the sentiments of Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, who termed the airspace violations as provocations warranting retaliatory action. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued statements on social media, hinting at a potential reevaluation of the necessity of maintaining a Ukrainian diplomatic presence in Minsk. Russia Promises 'Tough Response' to Ukrainian Border Attacks Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, vowed a swift and severe military response to Ukraine's actions along the border. In response, Russia's Ministry of Defence has begun deploying additional troops and munitions to the border area, anticipating a potential counteroffensive. Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the incursion as a "largescale provocation," and the military's chief of staff, Valery Gerasimov, vowed to quash the Ukrainian forces involved. Ukraine Captures Dozens of Russian Soldiers in Kursk Operation   The Ukrainian forces have reportedly captured dozens of Russian soldiers during a surprise operation in Russia's Kursk region. This marks the most substantial crossborder incursion by Ukraine since the war began in February 2022.   Ukraine Claims Success Against Russian Drone Attacks Ukraine's air force reported the destruction of 53 out of 57 drones launched by Russia in an overnight airstrike, with the drones being intercepted in various parts of Ukraine. The Ukrainian President also alleged that a North Korean missile was used by Russian forces in the Kyiv region during the overnight strike, describing the attack as yet another act of terrorism against Ukraine. Casualties and Damage in Kyiv Tragically, a fouryearold boy and his 35yearold father were killed when debris from a downed Russian weapon struck their home near Kyiv. Jewish merchant from the Mogilev region, eastern Belarus, 1866
The labserdak, an outer garment stitched at the waist, lined, with long flaps reaching the ankle, was popular with Jewish men in Eastern Europe. In Jewish tradition, leather footwear was considered a sign of wealth and bodily comfort. However, it was forbidden to wear it on days of mourning and fasting (reminder of mankind’s unwitting sin – killing animals and making them suffer). The man's right hand in the bosom is the gesture symbolizing the sign given to Moses by God Himself in the Old Testament.

The village of Volkonosovo, Mogilev region, was mentioned as early as 1669; it is notable for vivid stories about volochebniki. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a parish school with instruction in Russian worked here, it had only one teacher and forty students. Also, due to the wooded nature of this district, where forestry and woodworking crafts and crafts were strongly developed, this village and neighboring ones were once famous for making products from bast and bark. And there are also many local legends about Volkonosovo…
