In “The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show”, Penny has an unexplained dislike of the geeky and friendly Moonrock and only refers to him as “Creep”. In the episode “The Birthday Present”, while searching for Pebbles’s missing birthday present for Wilma, the kids investigate at the Gruesomes’ spooky house and are spooked by Gobby and his giant spider. Penny apparently jumps into Moonrock’s arms while Wiggy leaps onto his shoulders.

Remembering Mitzi McCall 1932-2024
Comedian / actress / writer Mitzi McCall has died at 93. She is a pop culture zelig who has been a part of a number of my lifelong obsessions: (1) with her husband Charlie Brill the comedy team McCall and Brill appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in Feb. 1964 in which The Beatles performed (yes there were other guests in that episode). (2) She wrote for several TV sitcoms including the 1986 episode of ALF in which Alf befriends a blind woman. (3) she appeared as the dry-cleaner's wife wearing customers' clothing in the 1994 Seinfeld episode "The Secretary". Wow! Not many people have The Beatles, Alf and Seinfeld on their filmography or resume!

Other notable shows she wrote for included Small Wonder, Mr. Belvedere, and Charles in Charge. She was a noted voice actor in animation (too much to list here). She did a lot of small supporting roles over the years including World's Greatest Dad.

I grew up knowing Charlie Brill and Mitzi McCall from hundreds of appearances on game shows. Years later I realized he was the guy who played the Klingon spy on the Tribbles episode of Star Trek.
But Brill and McCall's most infamous credit was that they were the act immediately before The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, leading to a million parody scenes where the comedian before a famous rock band is all but drowned out by screaming teens.

Recalling Brill and McCall
Recalling Brill and McCall
At this writing Mitzi McCall (b. 1932) and Charlie Brill (b. 1938) are both still with us, although unavoidably one can’t help thinking of them in their heyday several decades ago. Peppy, perky McCall is the one I remember best, and it turns out she is both the senior member of the team (by six years) as well as the smaller one (she is 4′ 10″ tall).
McCall was originally from Pittsburgh, where…
