Honestly surprised that the video game with the most in-depth gear crafting system is still fuckin Minecraft with the Tinker's Construct mod

I love the Minecraft mod Create, because unlike all the other tech mods I've used (I've played a lot of sky factory, and SF adjacent things) it feels the most vanilla.

Like it feels like redstone, but different, and I love that, and I love just figuring things out with it. I love how it gives you the components and says "go wild". You want a cobble gen? Here's some water wheels and drill, go figure it out. You want an elevator? Have a rope pulley. Its just. It's made for you to be creative. Any other tech mod would be like "Oh you want a better furnace. Go throw a furnace, some cables, and plastic into a crafting grid and then power it with redstone flux" while create is like "here's a fan, go blow lava at things, have fun!"

I'm so appreciative of the "ponder" button on basically everything, that explains with visuals what each component does. It makes things so much easier.

Create has to be my favourite mod hands down. Ily create

i have the most badass sword on the server it does 12 damage and i haven't even enchanted it yet. severing 3 basically boosts your chances to get mob head drops and ive gotten 6 wither skulls with this thing so far

i think it says something about modded minecraft that if i get attacked by phantoms, i can launch myself way up into the air and cleave one in half with a buster sword in one hit

it's not any more practical but it is very fun

i feel like the thing i want from modded minecraft is like... i want it to say pretty quickly 'you will be rewarded for building a massive and intricate machine here' but more often the thing is 'you will unlock a one-block solution for this after a few quests, so it's better to not automate it and instead rush to the next tech level'

like. if you give me a tinkers smeltery, I WILL want to take the time to make a massive ore refinery thing where ores come in and molten metal comes out and is stored in giant tanks and cast into blocks.

and if you do that and then I can see that 2 tiers down the line i get ore 3x-ing using some shitty little thermal expansion machine. well what is the point of my large and intricate machine??

same w/ like tree farms either you should make me farm trees or you should give me hopping bonzai pots and phytogenic insolators. if you make me make a tree farm and then deprecate it in favor of a dozen hopper bonzai pots, well what the fuck was the point of the large and intricate tree farm, now then??

Tinkerer's Smithing: an overly sentimental gearcrafting rebalance for minecraft

Tinkerer's Smithing is a server-side mod that prevents equipment-breakage tragedies by rebalancing repairing and upgrading equipment to be cheaper and more flexible. This makes these recipes a viable and fun alternative to mending for equipment maintenance.

You can upgrade equipment through every material (including chainmail for fun), repair every item with durability without XP (every item, like, carrot on a stick), regress stacking XP costs using netherite scrap, and actually use all the enchanted junk you find in chests to improve your existing gear.

Plus, personalized items become "broken" instead of imploding, so they can be repaired or their enchantments recycled.

middle!soap and gaz who are balls of sunshine and energy but also being traumatized and the tram working together to make them feel safe and comfortable

soap is a tidal wave of energy, he goes and goes until he crashes. always needing something to occupy his mind and body to keep him from spiraling. he loves lego, as well as puzzles, but his favorite are the electronics kits.

laswell had seen a few raspberry pi kits for sale one day and thought that they might intrigue soap. he always wanted to be tinkering in the bomb range when regressed despite being banned for safety, and these would let him experiment with electronics safely.

she was right, soap immediately jumped right into one and he was delighted that he could make working electronics, his favorite was the one that made a working computer. ever since laswell has always tired to bring at least one new kit or coding book for him.

he constantly tests boundaries, needing to know that he's still safe and cared for even if he breaks rules or messes up. price realized what was going on pretty quickly and whenever soap causes trouble the first thing he does is reassure soap that he still loves him.

gaz is a touch quieter then soap, a bit less inclined to break rules and test boundries, though he definitely knows how adorable he is and will use that to his advantage.

gaz loves building and making things, he loves lego as much as soap. where soap carefully constructs kits gaz loves to build creations from his imagination, often creating elaborate scenes.

when ghost introduced him to minecraft it was a revelation. it quickly became his favorite activities and he has worlds where he's created entire villages. he especially loves when soap gets into code and programming because he starts making mods for gaz that let him build even more elaborate creations.

his other favorite is the making dioramas, usually fantasy scenes, soap was so proud to use his knowledge of art to help laswell and price pick out paints and other art supplies for gaz's creations

gaz has a tendency to withdraw rather then push like soap when feeling insecure. feeling like he'd be causing trouble with his needs. this has been helped by soap and ghost being extremely affectionate towards him, ghost especially will seek him out for cuddles when regressed which helps in keeping gaz feeling secure and loved.

just the two of them being spoiled and loved by the whole team, being able to feel safe and happy and cared for.

TentooRose month - 2nd week: Firsts

a/n: trying something new for me here, I had not written any of these bulletpoints fics before so here is my first try (on theme with the prompt lol), hope you enjoy

(you can see the Steam sale kinda inspired me)

there are so many firsts for this new new new (first of his kind) Doctor

everything is new, everything is human, he has so much to learn suddenly

first shave, first shopping for clothes, first job (at Torchwood)

and of course the firsts with Rose

first kiss, first hug, first time holding Rose’s hand

first adventure on Earth together

so many firsts and new things

but one of his favourite (and not that scary) firsts was discovering gaming

more specifically quiet nights at home with Rose, playing some game together

usually, with all the travels and adventures, he did not have time to sit down and do something for relaxation

so gaming was something new for him

and Rose was more than happy to indulge him and even join him in this newfound hobby

his first game was… Fortnite

Tony and his friends were crazy about it and so, one day at the Tyler mansion, the Doctor had found himself coerced into joining the little boy for a few matches

and ending up liking it - a lot

Rose had told him she’d join if he found a less stressful and fast-paced game

so with Tony’s help, the Doctor found Minecraft

mining, crafting, building, taking care of villagers - it was relaxing enough for Rose to join in

they got their own world to play on together with Tony popping in from time to time as a honorary player

(they definitely did not use one of Torchwood’s servers for hosting it, no no no)

(the Doctor’s tinkering with the settings and mods definitely did not make even it lag, with all its specs and power, noooo no)

Come on, Rose! How can such powerful machinery be stumped by one game?! (the game in question was trying to render a whole universe but eh, should be easy, right?)

after that came Stardew Valley, Terraria, even Animal Crossing - all the chill vibe games

then the Doctor wanted to explore some more adventurous pixel worlds

Life is Strange, Red Dead Redemption, The Witcher, Elden Ring

he played and commented on every little detail he saw, explained his plans and actions

and Rose just sat with a bowl of popcorn, head on his shoulder, watching him geek out, asking questions from time to time or giving him hints if he somehow got stuck (after a quick and secret google search)

eventually both her and Tony suggested that the Doctor should try streaming online - twitch of youtube, people were sure to geek out over little details with him

surprisingly, he declined

this hobby of his was now too intertwined with Rose and Tony, it was domestic and homey, it was a family activity - he couldn’t share it with strangers

and so, the Doctor discovered his first human hobby - quiet nights with Rose while farming pixelated food

or not so quiet nights with some pixelated adventures while Rose teased him for failing to aim

or loud weekends with Tony whenever Jackie and Pete had to be at some company event or just run away for a weekend vacation somewhere

that was not the most important or big first, but it was the most family one for the Doctor

The Doctor loved playing The Doctor - his favourite killer on Dead by Daylight

Rose always giggled whenever he chose him in the selection menu

surprisingly she didn't mind playing this one scary game with him, they partied up when playing as survivors

'it's just a game of tag' Rose said

until one of the sneaky killers surprised them

it was the Doctor that yelled out in surprise (and a little bit of fear)
