When Eddie Van Halen visited Jason Becker in 1996, he gifted him a Peavey Wolfgang electric guitar from his personal batch – number 69 of the first 100 produced. That instrument is going to auction this month in an effort to raise funds for Becker’s ongoing care.
Recently, Becker’s assistant Stephen Correa stopped by LA vintage mecca Norman’s Rare Guitars to showcase the instrument – and to give in-house demo man par excellence, Michael Lemmo, the chance to put it through its paces.
The guitar was signed by Van Halen and bears the message: “Jason. We will play guitar together in the future. Love – from heart to your soul. Eddie Van Halen, ’96.” It also features Becker’s thumbprint on the rear of the neck.
In a new clip, posted on the Norman’s Rare Guitars YouTube channel, you can see Correa, Norm Harris and Michael Lemmo take a look over the instrument and share the story behind it.
youtube
Aside from the touching story behind the guitar, it’s well worth watching the clip for Lemmo’s magnificent Van Halen impersonation, including an utterly wild whammy bar motorbike rev (very much in keeping with EVH’s motoring obsession) and a medley of Van Halen riffs and licks, including Unchained.
“The last person to play it like that was Ed,” comments Correa after Lemmo winds down.
The auction for Becker’s Wolfgang is already live with the sale (via auction house Guernsey’s) available to view over at LiveAuctioneers and has already passed the $100,000 mark from just two bids (sitting on $110,000 at the time of writing).
The auctioneers estimate a final price of between $300,000-$400,000, so let’s hope it continues to gather some significant bids.
It’s hard to think of another instrument that so poignantly represents the relationship between two greats of the electric guitar, with the possible exception of the Jeff Beck/Jimmy Page Tele.
However, this auction is raising money for a very good cause – supporting its owners significant ongoing care costs – and, as Becker himself says, the guitar needs to be played.
“It should be with someone who would love to have it and can give it the attention it deserves,” Becker told Guitar World earlier this year. “I can’t play it, and the best part of it for me now is the memory of his kindness.”
Head to LiveAuctioneers to bid on Jason Becker’s Peavey Wolfgang guitar.

so many good parts from this article about the twins sausage
As Ryan Jeffers remembers, the sausage appeared just before he and Edouard Julien hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to finally tag Chicago starter Michael Soroka.
it just appeared, knowing it was needed
It’s most visible when Jeffers tosses it to a teammate following a home run, but Twins players are said to touch it for good luck before an at-bat, too. “It’s very weird, very gross, but at the same time, it’s working," Carlos Correa said. "So we’ll stick with it."
the things they do to win
“It's not wet on the outside yet,” Jeffers said.
yes im sure that means its fine
"It's going to have mold all over it," Farmer said. "It's going to, like, grow hair." Jeffers added: "We don't want the Minnesota Twins' sausage to start another worldwide crisis."
every time they toss it its russian roulette to become the next patient zero
On the way to Anaheim ahead of the Twins’ last series, Popkins is said to have put it in Jeffers’ bag. Jeffers said he triple-wrapped it in plastic bags and put it inside a shoe.
appropriate safety measures
and of course:
“It's the idea of the sausage,” Jeffers said. “It's the meaning behind the sausage. We're going to learn more about the sausage as the days go by.”

Okay, story time.
I was driving along on my way home from work yesterday when I saw this car accident on the side of the road. Pretty bad and it was smoking so I stopped and tried to help in any way I could.
Both passenger and driver got out except for the dad, he was heavily injured and his son was the passenger, got out with only a few bruises so I called for 911. I was helping the kid while others stopped to help keep his father from bleeding out until the paramedics arrived. They got his father on a stretcher and I was still talking to the kid and he kept telling me how his dad was right about driving safely and that drunk driving is not right. Then they just took a tumble and they flipped 2 times. After he finished, the paramedics came and said that the father's gone, he died inside the ambulance. The kid broke down and this is the first time I've ever encountered anything like this.
Then I had flashbacks of when I was 9yrs. old and police officers came by our house and told my Mom my Dad died in a car crash. My uncle had to pick me up from the neighbors because ny Mom told me early in the morning of that day to stay out of the house for a while. And my uncle explained to me in the most loving way how my Dad passed. I saw my 9yr. old self in that kid, who just lost his father in almost the blink of an eye, and I knew then just how valuable life truly is.
Driving safely is a staple I hold very close because my father died because of a car crash because he falls asleep on long drives. And he's an avid fan of F1 and his favorite drivers are Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. I firmly believe in driving safely and drivers' safety, especially in F1.
Now to the fucker fabbocca who is the host of the Pitstop Podcast who was a guest at the Screaming Meals podcast and said "nobody gives a fuck about your driving or where you finished", I'll give you two things. FUCK YOU.
You are a disrespectful prick who knows nothing of F1 and puts in disregard the safety of all drivers. And to think you'd blatantly say that in front of Juan Manuel Correa who is a victim of these crashes, near fatal might I add, and his teammate who unfortunately was also a victim and lost his own life to this, you are a fucking idiot. Apologize to JMC about what you said and maybe you'll grow something that all humans have but you obviously don't, SOME DAMN RESPECT AND A CONSCIENCE.
Fucking lout.

Marlins Get Past Twins in 13th.
Marlins 8 Twins 6 W-Maldonado (1-1) L-Blewett (1-1) SV-McCaughan (1)
The Minnesota Twins playoff hopes still dwindled alive and the team essentially needs to win out to have any chance at the postseason. A crazy game ensued tonight at Target Field. The Marlins were ready from the start as Xavier Edwards led-off with a walk and Jake Burger doubled him home. This put Miami up a run before Minnesota grabbed a bat. The Marlins would rally again in the fifth when Otto Lopez and Nick Fortes singled. Xavier Edwards and Jake Burger each singled home a run and it didn't stop there. Jonah Bride hit a groundball to Carlos Correa, who threw home, but Ryan Jeffers was off the plate. The Marlins took a 4-0 lead after five innings of play. The Twins had a spark in the sixth when Carlos Correa belted a Vallente Bellozo curveball out to left for a solo homer. The Twins inched closer in the seventh with a Ryan Jeffers singled and Austin Martin doubled. Byron Buxton ran out a ball at first base, which was called an error, but a run scored. Minnesota pulled within two after seven innings of play. Royce Lewis ignited an eighth inning rally with a walk and Carlos Santana singled. Brooks Lee plated a pair with a double to right and the game was tied at four after eight frames. Neither side scored in the ninth and we needed extras. A Jonah Bride and Willi Castro sac fly plated the ghost runners in the tenth. Neither side scored in the eleventh or twelfth. The Marlins would jump ahead in the thirteenth when Otto Lopez liend a run-scoring single to left. Two batters walked to load up the bases and Jake Burger singled home two more runs. Byron Buxton added an RBI groundout in the bottom of the thirteenth, but Carlos Correa grounded out to end the game. The Marlins took a crucial series from the Twins this week.
-Final Thoughts- David Festa was sailing through four innings then hit a wall in the fifth. He went 4 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Caleb Thielbar retired one man and Michael Tonkin got four big outs. Griffin Jax fanned two in the seventh and Jhoan Duran struck out four in two innings of work. Cole Sands gave up the ghost runner in the tenth, Jorge Alcala had a scoreless eleventh, and Scott Blewett gave up three runs in 1 2/3 innings of work. Justin Topa eventually got out of the thirteenth. Carlos Correa led the team with three hits. Trevor Larnach, Ryan Jeffers, and Austin Martin had two hits each. The Twins hit 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position and left fifteen men on base. Tomorrow, Cade Povich faces Pablo Lopez to open up the final series of the season with the Orioles.

Jayden Daniels: The Rookie Sensation Lighting Up Washington
By: Joseph Correa
In the NFL, rookie quarterbacks often find themselves navigating a gauntlet of expectations, pressure, and scrutiny. The 2024 NFL season has ushered in a new class of young signal-callers, each carrying the weight of their franchise's hopes on their shoulders. But amidst the chaos and growing pains typically associated with first-year players, one name emerges as a beacon of poise and potential: Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders.
Breaking the Rookie Mold
The narrative surrounding rookie quarterbacks has long been one of patience and development. Conventional wisdom suggests a steep learning curve punctuated by flashes of brilliance amid inevitable struggles. Jayden Daniels, however, seems intent on rewriting this script.
Through the first two weeks of the season, Daniels has displayed a level of composure and efficiency that belies his newcomer status. With a completion percentage hovering around 75% and zero interceptions to his name, he's playing with the kind of ball security that coaches dream of from their veterans, let alone their rookies.
But it's not just about avoiding mistakes. Daniels actively pushes the envelope, using his legs to extend plays and create opportunities. His 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground showcase a dynamism that keeps defenses on their heels and opens up the entire Commanders offense.
The Analytics Angle
Diving deeper into the numbers reveals how exceptional Daniels' start has been. According to Next Gen Stats, Daniels ranks in the top 10 among all quarterbacks in completion percentage above expectation (CPOE), suggesting that he's not just making the easy throws but consistently hitting on challenging ones as well.
His success rate on third downs is particularly noteworthy. Converting at a clip well above the league average, Daniels is showing a knack for keeping drives alive. This crucial skill often separates the good quarterbacks from the great ones.
Redefining 'Dual-Threat'
The term 'dual-threat quarterback' has become cliché in recent years, often used as a euphemism for runners who can occasionally throw. Daniels is flipping this notion on its head. He's not a runner playing quarterback; he's a quarterback who happens to be an exceptional athlete.
His ability to process information quickly and make intelligent decisions in the pocket is reminiscent of seasoned pros. When he decides to run, it's often a last resort, not a first instinct. This balanced approach keeps defenses honest and opens up opportunities for his teammates in both the run and pass game.
The Rookie Quarterback Landscape
It's worth looking at the broader rookie quarterback landscape to truly appreciate Daniels' early success. The 2024 draft class was touted as one of the most talented in years, with six quarterbacks taken in the first round. Yet, as we near the season's quarter mark, it's Daniels who stands head and shoulders above his peers.
Caleb Williams, the much-hyped first-overall pick, has struggled with the Bears' anemic offense, often looking overwhelmed by the speed of the NFL game. Bo Nix in Denver has shown flashes but lacks consistency. The others - Drake Maye and Michael Penix Jr. - are either riding the bench or experiencing significant growing pains.
This context makes Daniels' smooth transition all the more impressive. He's not just playing well "for a rookie" - he's playing well, period.
The Scheme Fit
Credit must also be given to the Commanders' coaching staff for putting Daniels in positions to succeed. The offense has been tailored to his strengths, featuring a healthy dose of run-pass options (RPOs) and designed rollouts that maximize his mobility and decision-making ability.
This symbiosis between quarterback and scheme is reminiscent of the early success enjoyed by Russell Wilson in Seattle or Dak Prescott in Dallas. Both of those quarterbacks went on to become franchise cornerstones, a trajectory that Daniels seems poised to follow.
Leadership Beyond His Years
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Daniels' early career has been his leadership. Teammates and coaches alike have raved about his work ethic, command of the huddle, and ability to rally the team in crucial moments.
This was on full display in Week 2 against the New York Giants. Trailing late in the fourth quarter, Daniels orchestrated back-to-back scoring drives, showcasing the kind of clutch performance that defines great quarterbacks. Putting up numbers is one thing; it's another entirely to deliver when the pressure is at its highest.
The Road Ahead
As impressive as Daniels' start has been, the real test lies ahead. The NFL is a league of adjustments, and defensive coordinators will be working overtime to find ways to slow him down. How Daniels responds to these challenges will be crucial in determining whether his early success is sustainable.
There's also the physical toll to consider. Daniels' willingness to use his legs is a double-edged sword, opening up the offense while also exposing him to potential injury. Balancing his natural playmaking instincts with the need for self-preservation will be an ongoing challenge.
A New Era in Washington?
For a franchise that has long searched for stability at the quarterback position, Daniels represents hope. Not since the brief, electrifying tenure of Robert Griffin III has there been this much excitement around a young quarterback in Washington.
But Daniels isn't RGIII, nor is he Doug Williams or any other quarterback from the team's past. He's charting his own course, one that could potentially redefine what's possible for a rookie quarterback in the modern NFL.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Jayden Daniels. Can he maintain this level of play? Will he hit the proverbial "rookie wall"? Or will he continue to ascend, perhaps even entering the conversation for Offensive Rookie of the Year?
Whatever the future holds, one thing is clear: Jayden Daniels isn't just adapting to the NFL - he's making the NFL adapt to him. And that, more than any statistic or highlight reel play, might be the most impressive feat of all for a rookie quarterback.

Ricardo Bell (September 18, 1967) is a singer known as one of the founding members of the R&B/pop group New Edition, and the lead singer of Bell Biv DeVoe. As a solo artist, he released the album Ricardo Campana in 2000.
The youngest of eleven children, he was born in Roxbury, Boston, and grew up in the Orchard Park Projects. He began his career singing with close friend Ralph Tresvant in the group Ricky and Ralph. Along with Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and Ronnie DeVoe formed New Edition. The group began a career in 1978 that has spanned more than 30 years. After the group recorded the album “Heartbreak”, he was given the chance to go solo but opted instead to form Bell Biv DeVoe, with Bivins and DeVoe.
The “Best Kept Secret” originally gained the respect of the industry when record producer Jimmy Jam had the idea for the spin-off group Bell Biv DeVoe with him as the lead singer. BBD, as the group is commonly known, was the first to integrate elements of Rap and R&B consistently, calling their style “Hip-hop smoothed out on an R&B tip with a pop feel appeal to it.” BBD’s 1990 debut established him as a lead singer capable of chart-topping success. He primarily performed as a backup vocalist with New Edition, and he emerged as one of the most utilized voices on singles released by the group in the 1990s. Except for the ensemble songs “Hot2Nite” and “Hit Me Off”, and the Brown-led “You Don’t Have to Worry,” He performed lead or co-lead on the remainder of the group’s charting singles.
With Bell Biv DeVoe and New Edition, Bell has over two dozen TV and film performances including Knight Rider, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, New York Undercover, Family Matters, the movie Krush Groove, and numerous music, variety and awards programs.
He sang the BBD hit “Poison” along with Ne-Yo at the 2009 BET Awards.
He was the recipient of the Golden Note Award at ASCAP’s 21st Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. In 2017, Bell Biv DeVoe released a new album called Three Stripes; it was the trio’s first album in 15 years.
He married actress Amy Correa (2004). #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
