When Eddie Van Halen visited Jason Becker in 1996, he gifted him a Peavey Wolfgang electric guitar from his personal batch – number 69 of the first 100 produced. That instrument is going to auction this month in an effort to raise funds for Becker’s ongoing care.
Recently, Becker’s assistant Stephen Correa stopped by LA vintage mecca Norman’s Rare Guitars to showcase the instrument – and to give in-house demo man par excellence, Michael Lemmo, the chance to put it through its paces.
The guitar was signed by Van Halen and bears the message: “Jason. We will play guitar together in the future. Love – from heart to your soul. Eddie Van Halen, ’96.” It also features Becker’s thumbprint on the rear of the neck.
In a new clip, posted on the Norman’s Rare Guitars YouTube channel, you can see Correa, Norm Harris and Michael Lemmo take a look over the instrument and share the story behind it.
youtube
Aside from the touching story behind the guitar, it’s well worth watching the clip for Lemmo’s magnificent Van Halen impersonation, including an utterly wild whammy bar motorbike rev (very much in keeping with EVH’s motoring obsession) and a medley of Van Halen riffs and licks, including Unchained.
“The last person to play it like that was Ed,” comments Correa after Lemmo winds down.
The auction for Becker’s Wolfgang is already live with the sale (via auction house Guernsey’s) available to view over at LiveAuctioneers and has already passed the $100,000 mark from just two bids (sitting on $110,000 at the time of writing).
The auctioneers estimate a final price of between $300,000-$400,000, so let’s hope it continues to gather some significant bids.
It’s hard to think of another instrument that so poignantly represents the relationship between two greats of the electric guitar, with the possible exception of the Jeff Beck/Jimmy Page Tele.
However, this auction is raising money for a very good cause – supporting its owners significant ongoing care costs – and, as Becker himself says, the guitar needs to be played.
“It should be with someone who would love to have it and can give it the attention it deserves,” Becker told Guitar World earlier this year. “I can’t play it, and the best part of it for me now is the memory of his kindness.”
Head to LiveAuctioneers to bid on Jason Becker’s Peavey Wolfgang guitar.

geoff and john naclerio about ray in 2002 from not the life it seems/norman brannon about ray and geoff on his instagram story in 2022
like one of the really remarkable things about ray is not just how talented he is, because there are hundreds of insane guitar freaks out there, but how he's that talented and also capable of cooperating as a single element of a band for such a long long time. he went around confusing hardcore/punk kids who drew false conclusions about him because of his metal roots, he obsessively lay down like a dozen guitar tracks for the songs on bullets but also adamantly refused to let geoff and alex saavedra secretly retrack otter's messy drum tracks because they were friends, he was fully supportive of mikey learning bass from scratch to be in the band, and, despite some initial nerves about frank joining, he went on to form one of the most interesting and cooperative dual guitar partnerships i've ever heard with him and has never expressed anything less than deep admiration at frank's playing...he's a rare specimen for sure. truly in his lane, unbothered, focused, flourishing lol

Don't mess with Spider-Punk's Sunflower
Green Goblin laughs out loud flying on his hoverboard, the anomaly glitching around having to throw bombs left and right. "Oh shit! He's going crazy!" Gwen shouted.
Pavtri said, "We gotta help the civilians! Those bombs are gonna hurt them!"
Miles went to use his venom strike on the enemy, before the villain was able to hit him with one of his bombs. "Ah-hahaha, take that Spider-man!"
"Arr-ahhhhhh!" Miles took the harsh hit at least using his venom strike to handle the hit, "Uhhhh!" His body weakened as he fell down.
"MILES!" Gwen and Pavtri shouted being busy from saving civilians.
Miles falling in mid-air, until a special Spider Punk came to the rescue. "Gotcha, luv!"
"Augh!" Miles winced at his hands taking damage, "I-I-I got lucky, huh?" Then he noticed a sharp deep cut on his side, "Ahh, fuck." His eyes snap back at his partner seeing how the punker remained quiet, this is worrisome!
"Shh, it's okay. Take a breather. I'll handle him! This isn't the first time I dealt with a fascist Osborn." Hobie went on top of building for his Sunflower to rest, he pressed his forehead against him. Their masks touching, then a kiss on the forehead. "Don't worry I got this, Sunflower."
"Hobie, be careful."
"Heh, careful is my middle name, darling." Spider-Punk went on the edge glaring at the Green Goblin.
"Bae, your middle name is...." His boyfriend jump off the building to fight their enemy, "Laurence." Miles finished seeing his boyfriend is pretty pissed off at the Green Goblin.
Being pissed off is one thing, but for Spider-Punk, he's enrage! Seeing an Osborn attacking his love one, not just any love one, his Sunflower had made him felt a rage he never felt before. Or rarely felt, because Spider-Punk is known to fuck shit up when he wants too!
"Ahh, another Spider-man coming to take me on? Hahaha, like what I did to your friend? You lucky I didn't blow his brains out!" The Green Goblin laughs manically in the air.
Spider-punk glaring at the enemy, all he saw was red. When the enemy launch another rocket bomb, Spider-Punk uses his electric guitar to hit it like a baseball. The rocket exploded in the air causing the Green Goblin to move upward away from the smoke, "Wha?" Then out of the smoke appears Spider-Punk's body shoot out with both his hands holding the neck of his guitar-*WAM!*
The powerful swing hit the anomaly's helmet causing to the crack leaving one eye mask completely broken. Norman Osborn's eyes wide releasing he was falling down being completely knocked out from his hoverboard. "Wha-what! AHHHHH!" He screams as he watches Spider-Punk on his hoverboard looking down at him like curiosity like what would happen if someone fell on concrete.
*THUD!* The Green Goblin's green body suit with armor landed hard on the streets having his body tumbling around till he lays as if he were dead. Letting out a low groan, he hears heavy footsteps, and chains clinging together. Quickly looking up to find Spider-Punk dragging his guitar on the pavement with metal scratches against it.
The menacing superhero had an eerie vibrance around him completely different from the Spider-man the villain knows. This one was already at it's limit with the whole cat and mouse game, especially when he hurt the other hero in black and red suit.
"Get up." The Spider-man grunts with his big beady mask staring down at him, no emotions show, but the sound of his voice is deep and daring.
Norman tries to more feeling one of his arm broken as he grunts in pain, his whole body couldn't move, a massive pain through his head. Then, heavy thick boot pressed against his abdominal with a harsh shove to making his whole body turns. His head facing the grey skies, the echos of people screaming and chaos all through the city of New York, "I said Get up, you fucking cunt!" The Spider-man demanded in a serious tone before kicking him hard.
"OOOHH! AHH!" Norman clutched his stomach feeling like the kick rupture one of his organs.
"I said fucking get up! Fight me like a damn man, you bombaclatt!" This time Spider-Punk hit his body with his guitar, with all his rage he started to beat the Green Goblin into a bloody pulp. The punker stomps on the enemies chest until he heard ribs crack, "This is what you get of fucking hurting my SUNFLOWER!"
Norman tries to fight away until he screams in pain, begging for the Spider-man to stop him. Spider-Punk didn't believe in mercy, he believes in pay back. Hurt his loved ones, he'll retrieve the same energy ten thousand folds.
In spite of anger, he grips on to his guitar being ready to bash into the Green Goblins' brains out. He done it before, what's another kill gonna do to him? "I'm gonna make you regret for hurting my Sunflower!" He swings his electric guitar with all his power causing Norman Osborn to beg in cries.
"NO, PLEASE! I HAVE A SON!!!" Norman shut his eyes getting ready for the worst, with his helmet cracks showing off his bloody face in panic.
Then Hobie stops with his eyes wide at Miguel grabbing at the neck of the guitar stopping the murder of the Green Goblin anomaly. "Enough, Brown. You done enough damage to him." Miguel said in a serious tone with his mask shifting to a glare.
"Ha, I say when I'm done!" Hobie growls at him.
"Shouldn't you worry about a specific someone... I dunno like Morales?" Miguel turns his head and points at Miles walking with his hands covering the deep wound he had being covered by a bandage Gwen is helping him.
Hobie turns his head shifting his anger into worry, "Oh! Sunflower!" He happily rushes over almost skipping to find his sweetheart, "You alright, luv?"
Miguel shook his head at the punker seeing how he swept off Miles' feet, their foreheads pressed together and kiss. Then he looks back at the Green Goblin staring in shock before passing out. "Whoa! He does not look good?" Peter came by looking at the bloody mess.
"Brown lost it."
"Pfft, and you don't? Last time I check you also kill your enemies."
"Okay but he went off the wall because Morales got-" Peter stood with one hand on his hip and the other free hand pointed at him, wagging his finger, "You know, you and him are so much alike, if it was Gabi. You would burn down the whole city." This caught off Spider-man 2099's guard. "Huh uh, stay quiet."
Hobie happily snuggles his love while Miles said, "Bae, you gotta chill. I only got cut."
"Never! Whoever hurt you will get their shit rocked, Sunflower." He nuzzle into his boyfriend's neck, inhaling his scent, "Mmm, my Sunflower." Miles can only giggle at his boyfriend being so cute.

Credits To @puppiesandnightlock for the idea❤️
THANK YOU SO MUCH @puppiesandnightlock for the Sing 2 Christmas one shot idea(storyline, honestly)
Chapter 1
Buster Moon's POV:
I got out of bed and grudgingly trudged down from my little staircase made of books to open the windows. Bright sunlight blinded me along with an icy chill of.. Wait, is that? I forced my eyes open and squinted, rubbing my eyes ferociously. A gorgeously shaped snowflake landed gracefully on the window plate, as I admired it with awe, I looked down and noticed the rooftops of the houses in the city were aesthetically coated with a thick layer of seemingly fluffy snow. My little mouth dropped in astonishment of the breathtaking sight. It rarely snowed in Calatonia, making it almost a lifetime opportunity to see the city with snow. I was just mindlessly gazing out my window when suddenly the door was kicked open and in came in Porsha, who I recently invited to stay at New Moon theatre. (I'm using New Moon Theatre since we don't know exactly how Majestic looks like, other than the stage.) Porsha rushed frantically to me and gave me a body-crushing hug, while ecstatically squealing, "Merry Christmas Mister Moon! I've invited the everyone to the theatre, Rosita, Norman and all 25 of her kids are coming, oh and don't worry about them, I already went Christmas shopping yesterday, got each and everyone who is coming gifts, ooh guess what I got for Ash, you'll never guess!" My head was spinning, I was clearly dumbfounded, but before I could even mumble a single word in, Porsha started rambling again, "I got her a new guitar case, she's gonna love it, I can already tell! I spent so long trying to decorate it in her style, we two have such different taste, I bought I bunch of stickers from her favourite store to DIY it, and it turned out perfectly, I got Rosita and Norman one of the very best nannies to look after their kids for as long as they like so Rosita won't have to worry and Norman can finally concentrate on work, I'm gonna take the kids to a huge toy store and get them whatever they want, since I don't know all of their likings, Gunter a karaoke system, got Johnny a portable keyboard and sheet music, for Meena I got her new baking stuff and recipes, Miss Crawly loads of new dresses and wigs for her to dress up with, AirPods for Nooshy so she can street dance without having to always lug that bulky radio around, I got Clay a new guitar, since his is, like, 15 years old, Alphonso merchandise for his business and for you I got, oh whoops I almost spilled the surprise!" Porsha covered her mouth with her hand/paw (???) and snickered, "You'll never guess what it is! But don't tell anyone about their gifts, alright?" she warned. I blinked, flustered with all the new information processing through my tiny brain(smol). "Hello?
You there? Come one, we have to decorate the theatre, thank goodness I was reassured by Rosita, who's gonna bring breakfast, we already have so much to do! Now let's go!" Porsha stopped waving her hand in my face and strutted out. I reluctantly followed her out, stretching my arms and yawning groggily, tossing my perfectly pre-planned outfit on, which consisted of my regular snow-white(®) button down shirt, a dark blue suit jacket with matching pants along with a black belt. I lost the bow tie and put on a tie which didn't exactly suit my style, but looked definitely like the explanation of 'Christmas' It was red and green striped, with several, small, Christmas elements around it. I kicked my chocolate brown shoes on and dashed off to find Porsha, who was humping a box of old Christmas decorations, along with a newly, store-bought bag of Christmas decorations, which she willingly offered to get. We emptied the box and bag to find a Christmas tree slightly taller than Porsha, numerous baubles and colourful fairy lights, a glittery golden star, miniature bells that ring a delightfully pleasant tune to hang up on the tree, collectable reindeer, scented candles that smelled pleasingly of peppermint, stockings, decorated wreaths, ornamental angels and fairly expensive snow globes. I lighted up the scented candles and placed them all over the theatre, arranged the ornaments of reindeer, angels and snow globes immaculately and decorated the bottom part of the Christmas tree, while Porsha had to set up the tree, decorate the upper half, hang the fairy lights on and through the ceiling and got the opportunity to position the star. I wiped a drop of perspiration off my sweaty forehead and panted, that was certainly a lot of work, but we got it done just in time! I looked up at Porsha and grinned from ear to ear, thanking her profusely for her help.
Porsha's POV:
Oh, my gosh, today is Christmas! It's the most, wonderful time, of the year! I stayed up all night wrapping all my gifts, I'm exhausted and ecstatic all at the same time! I must say, I think I overdid myself on the presents, but after all, AM earning my own money, now that Buster got me a job here at New Moon Theatre AND I was invited to stay here. I got ready in a blink of an eye, wearing my white cropped top, neon blue puffy jacket, midnight blue ripped jeans and my. ankle length brown uggs. I thought the outfit looked gloomy so I threw on some colourful neon jewellery and stormed off to Buster's room to wake him up. I just noticed the absolute beauty of the snow through his window, it was gorgeous! He and I got ready for the crew's arrival, I seriously can't wait for them to get here!
I planned out a perfect day! First, I pleased Rosita to get us all our favourite breakfast for each of us, who gave in after one request, she's the best! I regret being so rude to her...
My favourite breakfast is french toast and a milkshake with extra whipped cream, Buster's is toasted PB&J sandwiches with milk, Miss Crawly's is toast and tea, Ash's is fruit tarts and lemonade, Gunter's is pancakes with fruit, Johnny's is avocado toast with tea (being British don't mind me), Rosita's and Norman's is coffee, the kids all have different tastes, but they like reallyyy sugary stuff, Nooshy's is- hold on I don't think she eats breakfast, does she? 😃🤔 I texted her she sent me:
GirlieOnFire(Porsha): Heyyyyy
IllegallyDancing(nooshy): hiiiiiii what's up
GirlieOnFire: do you eat breakfast?
IllegallyDancing: no course I don't that's for WEaK pEoPIE🤭🥰
GirlieOnFire: well you really should it's not gUd FoR yA🤓👆
IllegallyDancing: yes I eat breakfast
👁️👄👁️
GirlieOnFire: well you should've just SAID SOO🤨
Illegally Dancing: why am I friends with you
GirlieOnFire: I should be asking that, now what do you eat
IllegalyDancing: well I go to any restaurant and see if they have any food leftover in their trash, why?
GirlieOn Fire: ...
IllegallyDancing: what? 🤨
GirlieOnFire: *Venmo $200*
IllegallyDancing:😨
GirlieOnFire: now shoo and go get smth to eat
So I forgot to ask her her preference🤭 Ah well of I'm gonna guess sweet stuff, cuz she told me the first time she went into a diner was went Johnny met her
Continuing, Clay loves TEA
WITH HONEY(yeah totally for sure I asked Ash 🥰)
So after breakfast, we're gonna walk around caroling and promoting our theatre. I'm gonna surprise Buster with the promoting and his other gift, I managed to convince one of my FAVOURITE FASHION BRAND to sponsor the theatre! I can't wait to see the look on Buster's face when I tell him!
End Of Chapter 1
I’m so sorry, it’s not me best work, I don’t have snow, so I don’t know the experience, please comment some ideas and thoughts, I take criticism very well❤️
If you’re into Jooshy, I highly recommend @puppiesandnightlock ‘s fanfiction, Breakdancing and Romancing, on Fanfiction.Net. This fanfic was the genius story that got me obsessed with fanfics in the first place🤩

This is a good thing My family and home life. It’s still my favourite place to be. Football in all its gross financial injustices, still remains a truly entertaining, all welcoming spectacle – a break from our  realities. I spent a lot of my days obsessed with the beautiful game. My own team Tottenham’s reimagining as a team for the neutral under Ange Postecoglou. I’ve had a serious post-covid hangover about going out; crowds and especially going to concerts. But still this year I managed to catch a few shows. John Cale and Knife Girl at the Helsinki Festival was very special. Elvis Costello at Kulttuuritalo was a great way to spend an evening – I didn’t really want it to end (and this was also a rare date with my partner!) Emma Ruth Rundle, Sorry, Jake Xerxes Fussell were good festival experiences. I’m an eternal optimist with dreams that we can all get along, people can be who they wanna be and somehow humanity pulls together to save the planet. My dream state staves off the dark feelings that are increasingly hard to ignore.
This is a low The Israel demolition of Palestine in response to Hamas atrocities is a key world happening which will resonate for decades to come. British Conservatives and all right wing ideologues who – in collusion with the mainstream media – spend most of their time demonising refugees and the trans community. The public discussion around minorities in Finland is base and inhumane. This right-wing Finnish government has been a hard dose of reality that has sprung many of us out of our comfort zones. The casual racism of the Finnish government has normalised terminology that should offend everyone. Disgraceful. The lack of a moral compass or compassion in world politics – who exactly are the good guys? I hope someone could point out who’s looking out for us all nowadays? Elon Musk and the destabilising of Twitter. He just couldn’t leave it alone could he? The unstoppable rise of AI. It’s a slow process (or maybe a fast one) that results in the death of a certain kind of creativity. Hearing that some people in the Music business are using AI to write press releases is a little sad. The Saudi exploitation of football.  It doesn’t stop. How long till the whole of football is owned by Saudi Arabia? The Vinyl market  becoming an expensive artefact for the wealthy. In typical Music Industry fashion, the vinyl format becomes revitalised only for the music industry to make the price prohibitive for most people. Own goals are rarely clearer.
Future To be a better me.
Happy holidays x

The Story of My 1962 Bass Guitar
My Most Treasured Possession
In 2010, I went on a school trip from Norway to Los Angeles. I wanted a new bass, so I took a chance, and sold both basses I had at the time, to have funds to spend in L.A.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I sold this 1979 Rickenbacker 4001, in my favourite finish: Autumnglo. I also sold the bass in the background, a 1982 Squire JV Jazz bass.
I was looking for a P-bass
But after not finding anything interesting in Guitar Center and other “regular” music stores, I searched online. There I found a store called Norman’s Rare Guitars. I didn’t know it at the time, but it’s one of the world’s most highly rated vintage shops – and they had a real bargain. You see, Fender instruments from the early 60s are expensive – especially the “Pre-CBS” ones.1 To put things into perspective: Norman’s have one currently, in great condition, which they want $10,900 for!
Tumblr media
Mine looked like this when it was new. But not any more!
The one I ended up buying was even older, from 1962, but “only” $3,000. Not only that, the currency rate was much more favourable, from Norwegian Kroner, at the time. I paid what today would be $1,700.
Why it was so much cheaper
The guys as Norman’s said that the bass spent most of its life in the possession of a man they know who was. However, he wasn’t a stranger to experimenting with chemistry and his own blood – and the bass bears witness to this.
Here’s what I know about originality
I know that the volume pot is new (as I’ve swapped it myself) – and I don’t think the knobs are original.2 The rear strap button has been moved (to accommodate the heavy tuners). The headstock strap button is missing, alongside the pickup and bridge covers. However, as far as I know, the rest is original: Neck (more on this later), thumb rest, bridge tuners, pickup, and electronics.
As mentioned, my bass used to look like the one in the image above here – same finish and all.3 But now, and when I bought it, it looks like this:
Tumblr media
The tortoise pick guard has been sanded down, or something, to appear matte. The sunburst finish has been removed, and then he's applied a gold finish before adding a dark purple. The pickup also got a bit of the dark purple colour. He's also made notches on each side of the neck, for some reason. And even weirder, is that he's made tiny holes in the clay dot inlays, and filled them with a bit of lime green paint.
Tumblr media
I think he was a bit lazy, or something, with the backside. It’s a much lighter shade of purple, so I think he only bothered with one layer. More notches, above the neck plate. It’s a bit hard to tell here, but you can see that when the purple wears away it shows gold first, then wood.
Tumblr media
He also made notches around most of the headstock. I think the decal is newer (late 60s). It might've been from the time he did this weird notch job? Because they've actually been lacquered over properly! A bit of lime green here as well. 👍🏻
Tumblr media
Quite a bit of wear on the neck.
Tumblr media
The pick guard is quite wobbly – which I like, as it gives a nice spot for my pick. Here you can also see that he filled the inlays on the side of the neck with green as well. (But, funnily enough, not the one furthest in. I guess it was too much of a faff.)
Tumblr media
“All the best swords instruments have names”
I’ve named the bass Hufsa, which is the Norwegian name for The Groke. Not only does my bass and her share colour and general shape – I also like the idea of both being a bit off-putting, while only looking for friendship.
Tumblr media
The neck
I love, love, love the neck of this P-bass – precisely because it’s not a P-bass neck. I don’t have the largest hands, so I love that, according to Norman’s, the original owner asked the Fender factory (which was local to him) to deliver it with a jazz bass/A neck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bass serial number indicates that it was delivered in early 1962, and the neck is dated September 1961 – so the story is very plausible, as Fender would make bodies and necks separate, and match them up later.
Re-fret and more
Currently, the bass is “in the shop”.4 It’ll get new frets, new clay dot inlays, and a bit more – but I won’t be going for a refinish or other restoration efforts. I want to keep the mojo!
I’m glad it has the story it has
Now, if the bass was closer to mint, it would obviously be worth way more than it is today. But then I would never, ever been able to afford it! And it’s a remarkable player, that keeps its tuning forever and sounds terrific. And I will never get rid of it. The only bad thing, is that it’s completely removed my GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) for new basses…
Sound examples
Here’s a song from my band Klondike:
Feet in the Water
And another one:
Feet in the Water
In 1965, Fender got bought by CBS. And the quality dropped a bit after this. ↩︎
But they are old and heavy. ↩︎
The sunburst is barely visible in the electronics pocket. ↩︎
Will report back when it’s done! ↩︎

James Bond theme by Monty Norman
The earliest entry on the classic FM list at number 47 never-mind its still a cracking piece of music and it appears in the first 3 minutes of the Tolerance film. As Robert  played by David Smith speeds round the Kitchen to make his breakfast Finishing with a cup of tea to highlight his independence.
He Lives in a house by himself where as Claire his girlfriend lives with her family where she feels somewhat over protected and longs to get away.

The most famous guitar riff in cinema has featured in every official Bond film since Dr. No (1962), when it accompanied the opening title. It appeared again over the opening credits for From Russia with Love, and from then on became as integral to the James Bond universe as corny one-liners and gadgets. The guitar riff heard in the original recording of the theme was played by Vic Flick, who was paid a one-off fee of £6 for recording the tune.
Jaws Theme by John Williams
Next in the list is Jaws at number 38 so good we used it twice and to a good affect once to heighten the drama in the Tolerance story when our hero in the story nearly got run over and again when introduced the villain in our story Mr Grosenberg.

One of the most iconic pieces of film music, the two-note shark motif that made going in the sea terrifying almost becomes a character in its own right. Rarely has a piece of film music so perfectly captured a film’s atmosphere. When Williams first played the two notes to Spielberg on a piano, the director initially laughed, thinking it was a joke. Williams described the theme, performed on the tuba, as “grinding away at you, just as a shark would do, instinctual, relentless, unstoppable”.
The Good the Bad and the ugly by Ennio Morriconne
We are entering the top 10 now so at number we have the theme from the Good the Bad and the ugly which was used to great effect in the Tolerance film to not only spoof a classic western but to also highligh the serious issue of disabled badge abuse at the same time

Italian master, Morricone, certainly created one of the most iconic pieces of film music with his main theme, and the rest of the score to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly comes complete with all the classic Morricone traits – including whistling, yodelling and gunfire.

Star Wars Theme by John Williams
And finally the last peice of film music to appear in the Classic FM list is the Star Wars theme by John Williams and the only composer to have two pieces of music in the Tolerance we used it to open the film up along with a classic Star Wars Dialoge crawl which told what the Tolerance film was all about we also used it to introduce the hero of our story Robert played by David Smith

In 1977, Star Wars caused a revolution; Williams brought a new hope to movie soundtracks, reviving the golden age of grand symphonic scores. He’s since composed for most of the Star Wars movies and most recently worked on ‘Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker’. From the brass blasts of ‘Imperial March’ to Princess Leia’s theme, every one of Williams’s motifs is pure class.
