Stand Still by Le Xi

Facing the ground with my back to the sun, I capture a static self-portrait using my phone, blending stillness and time as a form of self-therapy. It’s not about viewing images, but about immersing myself in the moment. Through this raw, real-time practice, I connect with my body and mind, transforming everyday life into a meditative dialogue with the environment. Through continuous interaction between self-portraits and landscape paintings, illuminated by light and shadow, I bring myself closer to art, approaching the essence of the ordinary and infusing life into the work, dissolving the isolation between the gallery space and the artwork.

In this image, we encounter a figure of cosmic equilibrium, a mystical being embodying the essence of celestial balance. Dressed in a dark, star-studded robe, she holds two scales that bear luminous orbs, reminiscent of planets or realms held in perfect harmony. Her expression is serene, deeply contemplative, as though she exists beyond the flux of time and space, residing in a realm where all forces are balanced in divine measure.

The structure of her being mirrors the alignment of the chakras, with radiant circles along the length of her form symbolising the alignment of cosmic energies within the human body. Each orb, each sphere, corresponds to a stage of consciousness, an astral body, or a planetary influence, creating a pathway that ascends from earthly awareness to cosmic understanding.

Behind her, an intricate halo of swirling gold and blue mirrors the dance of celestial bodies, suggesting a harmony between light and dark, expansion and contraction, the seen and unseen. The golden symbols spiral outwards like ancient glyphs, invoking the cycles of creation, destruction, and rebirth that govern all existence. She is a manifestation of the Tantric concept of 'Shiva-Shakti'—a balance between the divine masculine and feminine, the union of opposites that births the universe.

Her hands extend outward, holding the scales with the grace of a cosmic adjudicator. On one side, the energy of light, of outward expansion and illumination; on the other, the cool embrace of the void, representing the mystery, the depth of the inner world. She holds these dualities without favour, embodying the wisdom of non-duality, where both energies are acknowledged as essential and interwoven within the sacred dance of life.

This figure invites the observer to recognise the delicate balance required to traverse the spiritual path—a balance between action and stillness, knowledge and intuition, cosmic vastness and earthly presence. In her, we see the embodiment of Dharmadhatu, the realm of truth, where all opposites dissolve, and the soul awakens to its own boundless nature, balanced between worlds, illuminated by the light of its own awareness.
