i stand by the fact that thief (2014) wasn't a very good game but it did have a cutscene in the very last chapter that i keep thinking about. like one of those tiny moments in a game that rewrites your brain. and i can't even describe exactly why, it's such a small moment, but i keep thinking about it.

the only isolated version of it i can find is here, which comes without the subtitles, but what she says is "Everyone said I was bad, that I corrupted the Primal. Well. I'd hate to disappoint."

and i just keep thinking about it. erin, her name's erin btw, has at this point spent a year in captivity, drugged into unconsciousness, tortured, experimented on, while various men in power try to extract this power out of her to use it for their own ends. this thing she does here, we know it happens ambiently to people over time from exposure to her. this is the first and only time we see her actively fuck someone up like this, destroy their mind and body in a way that's almost. casual. with just a touch, moving on past them. and i keep thinking about this moment. about her being told for a year that she's the source of corruption, that without her this power would be pure. useful. about her finally being conscious enough to do something with this thing that's been an excuse to hurt her for months and accepting it as truth that she did corrupt it but that means it's hers to use, now, and hers to destroy people with and hers to protect herself with. "i'd hate to disappoint."

I'm fine, just thinking about how the One Ring worked so hard to get back to Sauron by both calling Gollum to take it from Frodo and calling Frodo to wield it as it's Master but the Ring did its job too well and its success at both led to its demise because Frodo's first and only use of the Ring was to command that if Gollum ever tried to take the Ring again he would go into the lava of Mount Doom with it. And of course Gollum was going to try to take the Ring again. The Ring couldn't take back what it had done for centuries to Gollum. It couldn't have known that even in wielding the Ring Frodo's heart would still be good enough to believe that he was going to destroy it, that his one act as the Lord of the Rings would be to bind the fate of Sauron to the life of Gollum. What poetic justice. Just thinking about that.

Both Eva and Daniel were so easy to forgive the corrupted AI's for murdering people. Like this goop really knows how to pickcthe most vulnerable people to prey upon. It must've invented gaslighting.

Mack literally told Eva it was his fault Joe was killed, since he stopped part of the process and made it so the conduit HAD to flood, and then proceeded to gaslight both Eva and Clayton into thinking it was their own fault.

For Daniel, I can't help but think that Alpha just played up the emotions part, because after the proving grounds incident, he forgave Alpha for brutally murdering a team of scientists pretty quickly. I'm pretty sure Alpha was corrupted by the evil machine goop just like Mack was, because she used a lot of manipulation tactics and similar word usage Mack did when manipulating Eva.

still really like how the galar league is set up as like an irl sports league, it really helps it stand out among the other league challenges. its an impressive but casual part of life for most people, but its the backbone of the galar region and a lot of its structured revolve around
