ouughghghhg i don't care if it's nigh-debunked, i'm STILL on the toy!player theory and the evidence i have for it is conjecture AT BEST! idk, idk, the radio dialogue from chapter 3 feels too accusatory to not mean anything. 

"I find your presence intrusive. After all this time, you return. Your presence was demanded 10 years ago and you didn't show up." 

this is a WEIRD amount of vitriol for someone who was supposed to die that day. the only explanation was that we were expected to participate in The Hour, there's too much betrayal in the line to say otherwise.

"Why weren't you here? You missed the event, you missed the meeting, you missed the party! You have no right to be here!"

mommy recognized us. catnap and miss delight did, and the first thing they ever said to us was to get out of dodge! (and yes, its dubious, bc at that point we've learned that you can't leave alive and proto may have told catnap to talk to us) why would a regular employee be expected to participate in a mass slaughter of other humans when nothing really makes us special? why would catnap care abt that enough to accuse us? at least if we were an executive or something, that might make sense, but no!

and on top of all of this, the prototype lets us live. you can't tell me he couldn't have killed the other boss toys or Sawyer on his own! The only reason we're able to is bc we use the surrounding environment - hell, we don't even kill catnap!

why let us get this far? why is our return so personal? us being one of the perfect experiments has been spinning around my head since chapter 3 and it'd answer everything and solve nothing. if the prototype knew abt it, it would explain why hes let us live for so long, and why catnap's so angry. (but then that'd open a whole other can of worms as to HOW he'd know and no one else would, and we have WAY too much guilt surrounding whatever we did at the company to have just been an experiment. idk. but i DESPERATELY need to find out.)

I love that the first time we've seen her giggling and having fun is with Jax, I absolutely love it and my heart is so full from these two I swear <3

as glad as I am that the worm died I really Really REALLY hope it doesn't get played for a "the worm made her evil along!!!!" bit. gayeon CHOOSING violence, Gayeon internalizing and making herself capable of it to such a drastic scale just to hurt one man who broke her heart is precisely what makes her and her relationship w Jun so compelling!!! it's so much more interesting than "o ya the worm made her do it" and creates a SHITstorm of conflict now that Jun caught her. assuming she even lives, is she going to nest? ISN'T she going to nest? will she be jailed for life? executed? how can Jun bear to support her and he rest of his students when she's nearly killed them? how can the school, who's ALREADY insanely trigger-happy, harbor one of their most wanted criminals? (DON'T even start with hanbyeol!) 

and it makes the love Jun has for her all the more heartwrenching. she sought to bring him pain and he couldn't bear to kill her for it, even though he had every right to. (you could even argue that saving her is one of the few truly selfish choices we see him make in the series! she was turning into even more of a loose canon, and there's no telling what she'll do left alive. I REALLY loved that it was Hyeseong that protested against Jun's decision!) the choice to save her was something that could only benefit the both of them, and the responsibility falling solely on the worm piloting her makes it falls apart.

not to say that it didn't have influence! the double-complex wasn't something I expected, but i LOVE the angst of Gayeon trying so desperately to repress both her complex and the horsehair worm, unknowing that doing so would make them both stronger. girl was doomed from freaking jump 😭

honestly? pleasantly surprised at how non-antagonistic most of this was. yah Jax goads rags into losing her temper, but it's bc he WANTS her honesty. he has the time of his life when she explodes on him, likely bc he understands it's the consequence of her bottling rather than what she articulately feels. like, I'm not getting the vibe of two people in a fractured irreparable relationship, rather a lot of yearning on both sides. rags wants him to open up. jax wants her to be true, even (and especially!) if it's mean. this isn't as much as a doomed burning ship as I thought it would be!

yes pomni's caught between them but i know the convo at the ball pit wasn't abt HER as much as it was them bickering over their heartache and vulnerability. I truly think that another new person could've been there, and that convo would still go the same, bc the key there was that they both felt entitled to pomni's attention. she's new!

she's the only bridge Jax hasn't burnt and ragatha hasn't completely befriended! so their conversation isn't rlly abt anything Pomni said or did as much as what the other could be to her.

& at the same time, you can't ignore pomni slowly befriending Jax and getting to know him in a way he likely hasn't allowed himself in a long time (Jax made a point to get to know her! he asked her abt her past! he knows her favorite color! his apology was cheeky, but askance and sincere!)! nor can you ignore rags's anxious stares at the both of them getting along, not just bc she feels like she's failing a role in not being likeable for both of them but bc she's scared of what pomni could turn into. 

and ouugghh the HEARTACHE of Pomni Not Rlly Answering jax's question and only being able to describe ragatha as Nice to Eveyone. rags wants so bad to befriend her, but won't be able to bc she can't let herself open up without regretting it. she's a self-fulfilling prophecy, she's a snake eating her own tail. (and I'd go so far to argue that her fear of Pomni turning into Jax isn't just from her people pleaser tendencies or her relationship w/her mother, but ALSO due to her heartache w/Jax. he pushes her away bc he knows she's not sincere, and as a result she tries harder and rinse and repeat. she resents him bc he's an asshole but still craves his approval regardless. I don't think she's scared of Jax turning pomni into another person that reminds her of her mom. I think she's scared that yet again she'll have another person with that cycle: always yearning to reach and never quite getting close. and, y'know, his jackass tendencies don't help much too lmao).

at the end the day, they don't want to lose their friends again. they don't want to end up alone. (and they don't HAVE to be. and therein lies the agony.)

jax stooping down to pomni's level whenever she wants to tell him something specific. jax scooping her up and holding her belly down under his arm like a laundry basket, laughing when she kicks to be let down. jax catching her and Extra Double Promising he's not going to drop her when she panics and then throwing her clear across the circus tent

the lovely thing abt Ragatha's predicament is that this is technically everything she wanted. pomni's getting along with EVERYONE and jax found someone he can be pleasantly candid with. but it's not her. pomni did what she couldn't and managed to break the ice AND GENUINELY SINCERELY CONNECT with the guy NO ONE CAN STAND without even trying, and jax's become friends with—not the person who's been trying to make nice with everyone from jump—but the woman they both barely know. and she should be happy abt this! as the self-assigned mediator this should be everything she's wanted for the others, but It Isn't and i just KNOW it's driving her mad

ragatha's ego and people pleaser tendencies are so cracked she craves the approval of both the woman she barely knows and OF THE GUY SHE HATES, SIMULTANEOUSLY. jax actively seeks to be around the others despite sabotaging all his interactions with them, he has no one to blame but himself. it's a self-esteem/loneliness power hour halftime special and pomni's caught in the middle of it lmao

as glad as i am that breeder's not here where...IS he. there's no way that freak is letting gayeon have her suicidal crashout out of the goodness of his heart, not when she's one of his most powerful cards to play. something's not right
