It happened at 9:00 A.M. for this gaming trailer that launched from yesterday. I was still at the program in the morning til I’d eventually gotten back home from it. Man, does it really blown our expectations that feels like a huge comeback. I know it was still a free to play game I’m getting used to, but that’s not stopping becoming trending on YouTube because why not? ⬇️

Also, Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) and Agent Smith (The Matrix)? Close enough, but “wow now” my brain out off the left field. 😅 Not actually a fan for these two, though.

Artifice Day 2 Minutes and Playtesting
21 May 2024
Today was a non-scheduled meeting. Though I am currently not expecting more than one or two people for Monday meetings, and with this being a surprise one I was expecting a lone meeting. This was not the case as I was joined by T2 today, an old friend of mine who is in town for a while. A competitive-leaning player with a passion that originally kick-started my love of Magic. Today I was able to accrue a decent sized bevvy of knowledge from today's playtesting. What follows is a recording of today's minutes.
The start was conducted alone, a going over of the document as well as finalizing the rules of the previous weeks. The google document has been changed to reflect the sealing in of the 80 card, 15 card sideboard for the time being. The docket still has on it the testing of a 60 card deck with a 15 card sideboard, but it will have no action taken at this time due to lack of discussion. In addition, added to the docket is the odd comment that was given to me about a week ago that the "Command Zone" and "The Shop" should be consolidated into elements of the sideboard for the sake of certain rules situations. This will be on the docket but, in full disclosure, will not be something I will advise as serious. This may come up in the future as a ruling quandary when I must carve into the Comprehensive Rules for further tinkering but for now this is insignificant and almost absurdist. Rules have been finalized.
The following playtesting was interesting as it allowed me to play against someone with finer tuned cards, though not a competitive list it was still quite an efficient deck (having 78 cards out of 80 cards be fine tuned is enough sometimes), but something must be stated beforehand.
A very interesting conversation was had. I make no secret I am a maker of playtest proxies for my friends, these are distinct from real magic cards and have obvious signage of being Not For Sale. Today I was made more aware of the alternatives to my home printer that do not involve me toiling over sticker paper with a crafting scalpel. I greatly advise these alternatives to anyone who is looking to step into the main-state competitive realm as we are playtesting, I will thus be looking more into them myself in the bid to make the competitive edges more accessible to those in my circles. Our format's stance on Playtest Proxies is that they are needed in playtesting a new format, and thus they are heavily encouraged.
Playtesting begins.
I was finally able to see how 1v1 Competitive feels, and I have high hopes for the format after this match. I was running with Urza, Chief Artificer/Cranial Plating. T2 was running with Renari, Merchant of Marvels/The Skullspore Nexus with no elected background. First round I had kept a disastrously sub-par hand, expecting to draw into a land. The land was 8 cards down. What followed was a turn 1 mana crypt into a mana vault, followed by a sudden casting of the commander as well as a myriad of quick flash plays that allowed this deck to flourish. I could not well track where the game started and ended but around turn 6 lethal was presented, though mana crypt and vault had been bleeding him dry on health.
Game 2 provided me with an aggressive start, getting out enough thopters to provide myself with an early Urza which lead to constructs being able to get through a board with no creatures at the time, leading to a thorough win on my side.
Game 3, now with both strategies on the table, provided the best example of our decks. My deck pulling ahead in the early game in getting out creatures, his deck getting out a contagion clasp and strangling my start but my value had been accrued and assured with my constructs making purchase with a bout of clues to finish the job.
My main take aways with this are that the inclusion of higher powered tech it does not inherently destabilize the format, nor does it stifle creativity. Almost in inverse to a more common viewpoint I've had in starting this, it allows concepts that are sub-par to flourish in a new realm. Provided the meta stays in tact.
Artifice Tip #2: Any deck can be a good deck if you kill someone fast enough.

No “On This Day” posting for today.
While there’s no secret art trade for my Filipino pal for this month; especially during our friendship anniversary celebration. 🤜🤛
Though there’s always be with other friends’ art trades to go around. After finishing with @rafacaz4lisam2k4‘s few weeks later, I’m now with @shadowredfeline‘s as a second art trade in the theme that you’re probably gonna expected. With the looks of it, I’m pretty much accepted the way these two having fun together. 🙂👍

Horrific debilitating headaches are back, but at least I see my gp in 2 days.
My energy levels are close to the lowest they've ever been. Getting more than used to blood draws (and the very idea used to be such a big thing).
I'm having some brief moments of creativity, imagination, and the ability to disappear into my own mind- whatever is playing out in there.
Today a kind of meh day, and it's already unseasonably hot (again not looking forward to summer and to be honest, the very thought of the environmental crisis unsettles me so much I've turned to S.H. in the past to overcome it).
Enjoying her company, and the fact that some things have cooled off and we're able to talk.
Not looking forward to starting the overhaul my home needs, but that starts tomorrow. And that's when I push through the pain and see who I am now.
