Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986). The Freeling family have a new house, but their troubles with supernatural forces don't seem to be over.
Having re-watched the original only a few days ago, I was looking forward to seeing what angle they'd take the sequel and, well! It's certainly an interesting one! It's nowhere near as good, which isn't exactly uncommon with 80s sequels, and it's tendency to overshow the monstrous/the other side ruins a lot of the tension (those 80s VFX have not aged well), but still, it has its moments, and it's nice to spend a little more time with the family. 5/10.

The Ballad of Mulan
an anonymous work of Chinese folklore, is dated from the Northern Wei dynasty (386-534 AD), a period marked by significant Silk Road cultural exchanges and the spread of Buddhism, influenced Chinese art, music, and literature, including Mulan's tale. It was first transcribed in the 6th-century "Musical Records of Old and New" by Guo Maoqian during the Song dynasty.
The ballad embodies key Confucian principles such as Xiao (family devotion) and loyalty (zhong). Confucius (551-479 BC) was a Chinese philosopher whose teachings on ethics and proper conduct, recorded in the "Analects," have profoundly shaped Chinese culture and emphasized social harmony through respect and integrity. These values emphasize respect for family and duty to the state, which are central themes in Mulan’s decision to enlist in the army to protect her aging father.
UNIVERSAL TRUTHS: Filial piety, a key Confucian value, highlights the deep respect and loyalty children owe to their parents and ancestors. Today, filial piety remains crucial in modern Chinese culture, often shown by caring for elderly parents and upholding family obligations. Within your own family, do you see filial piety as a core value? Are you prepared to make personal sacrifices to benefit your family members?
Overcoming Gender barriers: The ballad illustrates that personal empowerment and heroism are not confined by gender. Similar themes appear in historical figures like Joan of Arc, who led French troops, and Deborah Sampson, who fought in the American Revolutionary War disguised as a man. The ballad of Mulan ultimately recognizes Mulan’s merit and contributions based on her abilities rather than her gender, advocating for the value of personal achievement and character over rigid gender stereotypes.

Waffle House
AN: I went to Denny’s and all I could think about was college Toshi exhausted and needing food at 2am, going to Denny’s or Waffle House not because the food is good but because it’s a staple american restraunt. He's such a westaboo ♥
The exhaustion settling deep into his bones is obvious as your little group sits down in the creaking leather booth. David sits across from you and opens his straw, balling up the paper sleeve and flicking it right between Toshinori's thick eyebrows. The man doesn't even flinch, just keeps leaning onto your side, his cheek resting on the top of your head as he melts into his seat. You reach your arm up and pat his cheek, careful of the Hello Kitty band-aid on his jaw line. His bangs tickle your nose and cheeks where they dangle, and you refuse to move them.
After classes all day, David and Toshinori had gone on patrol. They had handled everything perfectly, the only mark of their work being the shallow cut on Toshinori's jaw and the exhausted stares they had both given you when they walked into your shared apartment. You had simply raised an eyebrow and asked-
"Did you remember Mr. Sampson's essay is due first thing in the morning?" Twenty pages and you were already half way done.
They both froze in place, David in the process of shrugging off his signature hoodie, and Toshinori with his hand braced on the wall as he pulled off his massive boot. They looked at you like you had just kicked them out.
"I'll take that as a 'no'. C'mon boys, let's get started."
And that is how, hours later, you find your little group in a Waffle House at 2am for breakfast munchies.
"Damn Toshi, you're actually dead aren't you." David teases, sharing a smile with you. His words are met with quiet grumbling.
"Well at least you get the true american experience, baby." You coo, looking up but unable to see him without actually moving your head. Another thing you refuse to do. Your boyfriend is tired, and it's your job to be a perfect pillow while he waits for his five stack of berry pancakes and biscuits to arrive. "Doesn't get more american than Waffle House." David huffs a laugh at your words. You hear Toshinori mumble above you. You also feel the vibrations of his voice through where his chest is pressed against your side.
"Oh joy. It's everything I ever wanted." His deadpan delivery sends you and David into a fit of laughter, and you feel Toshinori's arm wrap tighter around your waist where it was resting. He nuzzles further into your hair.
In one of the corner booths you can hear a group of drunk friends laughing and teasing each other. The ventilation from the kitchen is buzzing loud, a constant drone in the background as the line cook on duty moves back and forth behind the order window.
You grab Toshinori's free hand, the one laying limp in his lap, and bring it up to press firm but gentle kisses into the skin. David yawns and stretches across from you, and it sets your own yawn off. You feel Toshinori yawn above you seconds after your own.
When your food finally arrives you manage to convince Toshinori to sit up straight, though he does grumble the whole time.
"Just eat your midnight breakfast and then we can go to bed, okay baby?" You coo into his ear. His blue eyes peak open and stare at his pancakes like he doesn't recognize them as food. As you cut off a piece to feed him with your own fork, David tears into his own hash browns, nearly rabid with hunger.
Toshinori finally manages to work up the energy to take the bite of berry pancake you offer, grabbing your fork from you. You steal his own fork as recompense. The taste of food seems to remind him that he is in fact, alive, and Toshinori begins tearing into his own food with the same rabid fervor as David, the usual polite manners Toshinori eats with gone like they never existed.
You press another kiss to his cheek and tuck into your own food.

On October 22nd King James VI set sail for Norway to collect his bride Anne of Denmark.
The Autumn storms of 1589 were responsible for treacherous sailing conditions, but unfortunately for the women of England and Scotland, they prompted a far more dangerous consequence – a renewed fear of witchcraft.
That September, the new queen of Scotland – set sail to travel to her new kingdom. She had just married James VI via proxy, and was expected to quickly arrive in Scotland to meet her new husband.
But she did not arrive. Anne’s journey was a disaster – the fierce storms damaged her ship and she was forced to anchor in Norway for repairs. A second attempt to set sail was made, but her ship once again sprung a leak and returned to Norway. With winter setting in, the bad weather was expected to continue. The decision was made to postpone the journey until spring, and so Anne remained in Norway.
If history has taught us anything Scottish Kings were a randy lot, you only have to look at the disastrous journey Alexander III took to reach his Queen, ending up dead at the foot of a Fife cliff.
James was unhappy when he heard the news about the delay and unwilling to wait that long to see his bride. He made the decision to go to Norway himself to fetch his queen. Well we all know James survived the hazardous journey, once over there the celebrations of their wedding lasted months and it is said that during this time it ignited his obsession with witchcraft.
In Denmark, witches were blamed for the storms that damaged Anne’s ship and stopped her from travelling. A trial was held in Copenhagen in 1590, resulting in the executions of the accused women. This wasn’t unusual in Denmark – there had been a number of witch trials in the country during the sixteenth century.
In Scotland, witchcraft was against the law – although it mostly went unpunished before 1590. But when James arrived back in Scotland with Anne and heard the news of Denmark’s witch trials, he began his own witch hunt. Witches were accused of trying to kill the king and queen, by calling up the strong storms that James and Anne had encountered returning to Scotland.
One of the accused witches was a wise woman named Agnes Sampson. Under torture, she confessed to things that were so ‘miraculous and strange’ that even James found them difficult to believe. Allegedly, Agnes whispered to the king, telling him the words that he and Anne had spoken to each other in private on the first night of their wedding, removing any doubts James had. He said he ‘believed all the devils in hell could not have discovered the same’. Agnes was executed. There were around seventy people accused of witchcraft during this trial – it is not known exactly how many of them were killed along with Agnes.
In 1597, James released Daemonologie, a treatise about witchcraft – although his own fervour for witch hunting seemed to have waned, the fear of witches among the population had taken hold. Large scale witch trials took place in Scotland well into the seventeenth century, and an estimated 3,000 people – who were mostly women – were accused.
Under the union of the Scottish and English crowns in 1603, James’ work spread south, into his new kingdom.
Daemonologie laid out information such as how to identify a witch and how to punish them. One way to seek out a witch was in their use of charms and herbs: ‘By curing the Worme, by stemming of blood, by healing of Horse-crookes, by turning of the riddle, or doing of such like innumerable things by wordes, without applying anie thing, meete to the part offended, as Mediciners doe’. Women known as healers and midwives often came under suspicion because of their skills. Another way to identify a witch was to find the mark of the devil hidden somewhere on their bodies – James referenced Agnes Sampson’s trial directly, describing how they shaved her head in an attempt to find her mark, eventually finding it on ‘her privities’.
James explained that it was mostly women who were witches as they were ‘frailer than man is’ and so were more easily entrapped in the ‘snares of the Devil’. He used the bible to support his arguments as witchcraft was ‘plainely prohibited’, referencing Exodus 22.18: ‘Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live’ – the only acceptable punishment for a convicted witch was death.
These guidelines were used in trials until 1727 when Janet Horne became the last woman in Britain tried and executed as a witch.
The book series, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, uses the name Geillis Duncan for a character who is eventually involved in a witch trial, although the books are set after the last execution.

@devil-of-dagoth in response to an ask said:
the whole secrecy and "what they don't know can't hurt them" mindset is peak Tremere behavior and also what a way 2 deal with feeding guilt<3 i do have to ask tho.. sampson's trauma?? also. oh lort. a lineage like that's bound to give him problems, has he ever been in trouble w people that want to get to his sire thru him?
-
Sampson's Trauma is literally a whole ass thing. Ok you ready for an INFO DUMP ? Literal content warning for abusive relationships, drug addiction, sexual assault, fr don't read it if these topics will upset you.
Sampson was Mark's boyfriend. At some point a year or two after they started dating, Sampson got blood bound to a vampire named Vic. Vic was fucking evil. At first Sampson was just made to spy on Mark and relay information to Vic, and got his mind wiped a LOT. but then Vic started getting power hungry and lazy. he used Sampson as a blood doll and started a bsically super fucked up abusive relationship with him; sampson obviously felt like he loved him due to the blood bond but obviously he was being assaulted and, since he didn't know anything about kindred society still, was very confuesd, and still had his memory wiped all the time. it was really really really awful for him.
He wasn't telling mark wtf was going on. This went on for a year, at least, in varying levels. His memory is fuzzy ( :c ) so neither mark nor sampson are sure how long. Point is, one day mark got fed up w the lies so followed sampson. He saw sampson getting fed on from Vic. Thats when Mark got kidnapped for a month as Julius embraced him and did other weird shit.
Well from Sampson's perspective Mark disappeared, and Vic was killed for breaking the masquerade. The blood bond was thus traumatically broken, the one person who he'd consider going to about this disappeared on him, and ... yea things were bad. He released into his drug addiction to heroin, and at some point during the month Mark was gone, he lost his job, and ended up on the streets.
Mark rescued him from a trap house that was actually a Sabbat drug ring where they got blood from hopeless addicts in exchange for blood. yeah. Anywya i could continue the story, but that answers the ask about how Sampson's trauma relates to Mark: Sampson not remembering the shit that happened to him, still didn't make it less awful.
-
As for Julius. YEA LOTS OF PEOPLE HATE MARK FOR HIS SIRE. ACTUALLY THE TREMERE PRIMOGEN/REGEANT OF THE AREA FUCKING HATES JULIUS A LOT. AND THEREFORE HATES MARK. His name his Gaius. I love Gaius. Gaius does not love Mark.
And a lot of other kindred too.... its literally such a huge thing alksdjfdskj Mark gets special treatment sometimes tho because of it, for example he doesn't have to do as much grunt work for the chantry and has more freedom. But some ppl hate him for that too... so yeah.

10. Slow sex Hangkenny
Heat of her breath in my mouth, I'm alive
1870 words | Kenny Omega has chronic pain | Tender smut
read on ao3 reblogs and comments are appreciated
Adam knows he's hurting. He can tell by the way Kenny picks awkwardly at a blister that forms in the middle of his palm. He studies the way his blunt nails scruff and push against the bubble of fluid just under his skin. He frowns, twisting his lips together when Kenny half raises his hand to bite down. Maybe Kenny feels eyes on him or maybe he comes to a sort of sense, because he looks up; mouth open and teeth slick with spit and his palm cradled in his hand. Adam raises an eyebrow, raises the other when Kenny slams his teeth down on the fat of his thumb.
He knows he's hurting. He can tell by the way Kenny smiles. The way the corner of dried chewed lips barely reaches under his eyes. Adam studies the way his lips move as he talks soundlessly to Doctor Sampson; watches how there's a glaze that grows from the corner of his eyes as the doctor presses the tip of a needle through the cut in his head.
Adam knows that Kenny is hurting because of the way he kisses him back at the hotel. Adam's standing in his pajamas with the bathroom door pressing into the small of his back. There's the taste of medication on Kenny's tongue and as Adam's hands come to raise against the bare skin of his chest, he rubs his hands across the curve of Kenny's shoulders as he allows him to lean forward and gasp, whimpering into his mouth. "Ya still have that blister on ya palm?" Adam asks and he can almost swear it's flirting when he raises Kenny's scuffed palm to his lips, kissing it softly.
Kenny blinks down at his palm, cradles it close before he holds it against his chest, blinks into the red mark as if it's answering a question that only his brain could conjure up through the growing lust that sits barely touched in the corner of Kenny's darkening eyes. "Why...why'd you do that?" Kenny asks and Adam watches him press the question out his mouth with his tongue, almost as if it tastes bad.
"Did it hurt?" Adam asks, acutely aware of the worry that slips into his voice because Kenny's pupils blow out in such a way that makes Adam shift backwards just a little until the door handle presses against the fat of his hip. "I know you've been hurtin'"
He hears Kenny scoff, watches how his eyes roll upwards to stare at the flickering bathroom light. "Does it matter? I always hurt." And he's laughing, chuckling as if his pain is somehow funny and somewhere deep in Adam's heart, something starts to hurt. He steps forward and soon Kenny is cuddled into his arms; head pinned against his chest, spit stained bodies pressing together almost as if they're meant to fit together. Adam's lips brush against the half fresh stitches and for a few seconds, Kenny becomes gentle in his arms. Adam follows the way his arms wrap around his middle and the way his breath comes out in chilled cold puffs against the half swollen peak of his nipple. It's enough to make Adam sigh happily into the darkness of Kenny's curls. "My knees hurt." Kenny whispers eventually, letting his bare feet shift until they're between Adam's socked feet.
"Do you still wanna?" Adam flails his hand awkwardly above Kenny's head and Kenny rolls his eyes again, twisting his mouth to the side, just enough for his tongue to slip out from bitten lips and lick a warm stripe of spit across the peak of Adam's chest. It's enough to make Adam's chest hiccup under Kenny's cheek. The two of them shift slowly at first, a weak fight for dominance as they kiss and lick into each other's mouths, Adam feels poisoned by the taste of pain medicine that sits barely dissolved in the corner of Kenny's lips. It almost makes him dizzy as he pulls Kenny towards the shower, socks soaking in the dampness of the tiles under his feet.
They strip each other's clothes slowly; hands smooth down kinesiology tape, fingertips pop blisters letting the fluid drizzle between their joined hands and soon Adam;s balancing against the cold bathroom tiles trying to pull wet socks off his feet while Kenny presses himself against him, desperate to taste anything that Adam gives him. "There's a perfectly good bed" Kenny mumbles, pressing his forehead into the curve of Adam's neck to bite at his shoulder and Adam laughs through a moan when Kenny's teeth split through the skin, he feels the bruise bloom under his skin like the flowers blooming beside his shed back home.
"Yeah but you're hurtin, I know what I'm doing." Adam half preens himself under Kenny's soft giggle, he shifts him against the wall, lets him soak in the chill of the tiles and the laughter that echoes past Kenny is split off before it really starts by Adam reaching above him and turning the shower on. "Here, the hot water will help."
The water presses the ends of Kenny's curls over his face and Adam in all his softness, wraps them like spun gold between his fingers and shifts them back slowly. He waits until Kenny's skin is soft and shower warm under his skin to start kissing him again, slowly at first as if he's trying to map out every inch that his heart might have forgotten; his nose prods at the scar of Kenny's shoulder as he slides his open mouth against the stubble under his chin, his tongue laps across the scars on his stomach and his hands wrap around his knees, heavy desperate hands pressing and molding the tight muscles until they untangle like knotweed in Adam's hands. He kisses Kenny, shifts their wet bodies against one another until he can study Kenny's open face.
He makes Kenny kneel under the hot water, watching how it pools between his calves, how droplets decorate his skin like morning dew and it's enough to make Adam swallow down his own desires. Kenny blinks up at him, light eyelashes fluttering as he waits, half curious half trusting as Adam slides the tip of his cock against his parted lips, just enough that Kenny tilts himself forward to capture anything else. "Normally I'm the one in control" Kenny whispers and the softness of his voice almost gets lost in the gurgling of the pipes but Adam picks it up under the hammering water and he studies Kenny's blue eyes through the steam and strokes a hand across his wet hair, pushing it out his eyes.
"Yeah but you’re hurt. Is the water helping?" Adam asks, replying back with the same tender tone that he sees glowing in Kenny's face when he nods. "Good boy." He whispers and Kenny preens, tilting his head backwards as if he's trying to show himself off. It's enough that Adam presses his thumb loosely into the hinge of Kenny's jaw and pushes himself slowly into the waiting wetness of his mouth. The two of them stay like that, at least toAdam. For what feels like forever; He gasps out Kenny's name, presses his head against the wet tiles as Kenny hollows his cheeks and sucks, it's careful at first Kenny getting used to the weight on his tongue, the way moans and half swallowed shower water falls from Adam's mouth. He tries to wrap a hand around his throbbing cock but Adam pushes his hand away with his foot, half lidded eyes studying Kenny's peaceful face.
"Got other ideas." Adam slurs out and Kenny just swallows harder around Adam's cock as he slips himself deeper down him. Adam whimpers above him, ringworm nails scratching across the tilework and soon he's pressing a knee into Kenny's face until Kenny lets his mouth hang open and Adam pulls away slowly, precum connecting the tip of his cock to the hem of Kenny's swollen lips. The water runs cold above them and Kenny swipes his tongue quickly across the seam of his lips and Adam has to hold onto the wet tiles so his legs don't collapse under him.
The towel each other off in silence; trembling hands pressing against wet skin until they pull back, stained with their own sweat. They kiss until Kenny is laying naked on his stomach on the hotel bed. He squirms a little when Adam sits on his legs. "Still wanna continue?" He asks, mumbling around the tube of muscle rub that's pinched between the corners of his teeth, he watches Kenny's curls fluff as they dry and how they bounce around his ears as he nods. He almost looks younger; under all the tired lines and bottled dyed hair, there is something soft and almost innocent that hides in the deepest corners of Kenny. Adam opens his mouth and the tube drops in his hands. He massages Kenny's back slowly, shifting between his loose legs.
He rubs slowly, releasing the tightness that the heat didn't pull out and soon Kenny again is whimpering and moaning into the pillows, a different kind of relief flooding his face as he pushes himself backwards. Adam knows he's still hard, begging and desperate for him and Adam presses a little kiss to the dent of his hips. "Ya sure baby?" Adam asks against the shifting bones of Kenny's spine and he smiles when Kenny nods, breathing out his name, almost like he's saying Adam;s name like a prayer, something only Adam should hear. Under the squeaking of the springs, Adam wipes his hands and slowly drags strips of precum across Kenny, mind too foggy to focus on digging through Kenny's backpack or suitcase to find the hidden bottle of lube.
He slides two fingers inside Kenny, slow enough that it makes Kenny gasp out, loose legs wrap around his hips and biting down into the fat of his bottom lip, Adam promises that it won't be soon. He strokes his fingers gently across bundles of nerves that light under his calloused thumbs and soon he can slowly fuck into Kenny. He studies the way the older man squirms and whimpers under him, watches how his hands come to grasp and grip at the sheets that lay a tangled mess around their bodies or how when Adam starts slowly fucking into him, Kenny comes undone without being touched, yelling Adam's name. He doesn't fill Kenny with cum, not like how he desired. He lets him roll over slowly; Adam holding onto his shoulder, his hips anything that he can get ahold of before he strokes a lazy cumstained hand across Adam until their cum mixes, a splattered mess against Kenny's heaving chest.
Breathless, Adam strokes a finger across Kenny's cheek, wiping cum off the corner of his lips and as he studies his face, he knows he's not in pain. He knows it won't be a permanent fix; that soon Kenny's brain will reconnect and the pain will start to flood from his knees or his back again, but as Kenny lets him wipe the drying cum off his chest, Adam thinks maybe it’s enough. Just to see Kenny smile.

Fuck all of y'all that still stan lucy bronze. She's a racist and has no talent, y'all should be very ashamed of yourselves for supporting her at all.
Telling a black woman that she needed to "re-earn respect" to play again in the England squad after being kicked out for bringing up racism from then england coach Sampson is fucking shitty of lucy to do.
Lucy taking unnecessary digs at Eni as a person as if any of what happened was caused by her when it was because of Sampson
The allegations towards Sampson are verifiable because he got fired for it
The article of what Lucy has said about Eni so y'all can't come at me for telling lies, here's the proof
She has never once apologised for her berating statements even though other players have apologised to Eni for celebrating with the racist (Sampson) in question after england's 6-0 win over russia in september 2017
With all these information available to you now and you still choose to defend her, you're a bigot and an asshole 🤷🏽♀️
