An alternative to google docs
To paraphrase a recent post: google docs is pants as a writing tool.
I'm suggesting MS Word as an alternative. Yeah, I know, it's not perfect, but it is (IMO), better than google docs.
But I'm not just suggesting Word when I suggest Word. I'm suggesting a free Microsoft account, which gives you Word and OneDrive.
It only takes a minute or two and a free account gets you:
Word in the browser
A OneDrive with 5gb of storage - now, 5gb might not be much holistically but in terms of text based documents, it's decent. My entire 'Fic' folder is 2.11gb. That's everything I've ever written and all their drafts, wips and their multiple drafts, betaed fics, ideas, writing refs and guidance, archived drafts/fics, AND the 500+ fics I've downloaded as epubs from AO3).
Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneNote - basically the whole Microsoft365 suite - in the browser
I use Word exclusively, both for fic and for work (where I write extensively), and the online version does everything I need. It autosaves, has version control/reversion, and sharing (if that's what you're into), and you can seamlessly copy and paste from Word into AO3's rich text editor - no formatting adjustments required.
Anyway, it's something to think about. If you want to give it a try, the simplest way is to create a new OneDrive account, which will also give you everything else.

Click 'Create a free account'.
Click 'get a new email address' and follow the prompts (recommended but not required) or use an existing email address. If you create a new email address, don't actually use it for email. It's just the umbrella the account sits under.
That's it; you're done.

Recent game related things .. hrmm...
#I do like the inconsistency of the first map. that is actually something older but that I re-found and added to my Game Reference stuff#so that when characters reference where they're from I can be accurate. I like that the whole map is kind of shifted up that way. Where the#actual south part doesnt even count as the south since its Too Far and Scary lol. and if you say you're from 'the north' thats basically#like.. one single continent. Though some people do make distinctions like 'north midlands' or etc. still. I like the ways that common#language isn't always precisely accurate like that. and thinking about why a culture would classify things a certain way or etc. etc.#The inventory page is so funny to me because it's literally just the BASe like.. sample layout just to make sure it works properly with 0#actual design into it. just colored rectangles thrown together in MS paint. but what if I like... left it like that.. what if all the other#art in the game and UI is like stylized and fully matching BUT the inventory/journal/etc. screens I just left as plain colored blocks#with random misalignments and black spots and etc gjhbhjj... It looks unfinished in a Funny Contrast way to me.#the wordcounts are just like... my past few days of writing.. I am still not getting 2200 words a day done or whatever I needed. I'm lucky#if it's even half of that .... tee hee.. :3c I do also keep having appointments and other things going on but..grrr...#The full map of the area is probably not necessary but I thought it would be more realisitc if people were able to reference things. Like i#you have people all living in a city area probably at some point someone might mention a neighboring city or some landmark nearby#or etc. so I thought having at least the basic names of what's around for reference would be sensible. A side character mentioning#'oh yeah I don't live here full time I just travel from Marisene sometimes' or whatever makes it seem more like a Real#Fleshed Out Place than people just making vague references like 'the river' or 'i come from a city nearby' or 'i went to a place somewhere#around here' or 'the other city' or etc. lol.. Especially since global cities/global areas are weird as they operate almost like an#independent country within their walls. so it's like a micro country inside of another country usually. just plopped down in some agreed#upon plot of land that won't be too disruptive to the main country around it. That could get very complex depending on the cultural and#political backdrop of where they're placed (though obviously they try to choose the 'easiest' areas possible for it). Asen is a very mild#country without much history of conflict or anything so it's fine. But still interesting that Sifeh and the entire branched out global area#border three other districts of Asen. Which means like 3 times the local representitives you'l have to negotiate with for some major change#or anything. I think one of the 'random characters you can find around the world and have short discussions with just to make the area#feel more populated and real even though theyre not actual important npcs' is going to be a guy who actually serves on the council that#handles running the global areas and he's like.. some perpetually exhausted middle aged elf running around with a clipboard or whatever#ANYWAY...... hrgh... still trying to write when I can....#I WISH so badly that I had the scope for a simple character creation menu and all character interactions would allot for the background#of your player character. And also to have a simple day night cycle where places in the world you explore/people you talk to during the day#have new options or dialogue at night.. BUT alas... I already am so behind on everything as is lol.. aughhh... T o T#As the worlds number one Needless Detail And Complexity Enjoyer i must dilligently prevent myself from adding additional complexity

Been playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door a lot lately, so I decided to introduce you all to my interpretation of the Paper Mario series. The Paper Mario games are a series of cartoons directed by Mario, based on some of the darker adventures he’s gone on. There are roughly five different seasons of said cartoon, one season for each game/adventure.

#me: it will have 3 chapters#also me: 2000 words of just basically an opening scene and it will be 3000 before i finish it and then it will be like 50 pages in ms word#for the entire chapter#ch 1 is 23 pages god bless but it is meant to be shorter#i am having a field day writing it tho

It's titled "creed siblings if they slayed" on my computer so.
Also the symbols have to do with the gods they are vessels of. Time for Ty, Space for Charlie, "Void" for Blitz.
#mango man speaks#mango man draws#digital art#digital drawing#oc shit#ms paint#void in quotes because the void does not actually have a god associated with it as it existed before the gods.#it only has a god associated with it because the god of space was consumed by it for. super long. the god's soul. essence. whatever word.#was not consumed. leading to two separate entities.#time and space were the first two gods that sprung into existence. working in tandem to give way to reality.#time is a passive extremely conceptual thing. precise and always in motion. and the god of time was very much consumed by his work of makin#sure every timeline was separate and didnt merge.#the god of space is basically the god of being. of form and shape and color and whatnot. and the void is. well. the void. it is nothingness#incomprehensible nonexistence.#and at the edges of reality the god of space could feel the void. could feel it becoming sentient. wanting complete nonexistence back.#as such he was driven to insanity. the goddess of fate had obviously foreseen ultimate destruction of everything so the gods all had agreed#to scatter their beings across reality.#but the god of space was already corrupted so when the time came he threw himself and the goddess of humanity into the void.#and as for the god of time. having to give up his tangible existence for the the sake of everything. had scattered himself across timelines#the goddess of fate had predicted that even with dispersing across reality the void would eventually be able to catch up to them all so she#set that the gods would all become whole again to attempt to combat it then.#this all leading to ty being aware of and partially merged with other timeline versions of himself.#and charlie being isolated from everyone as the god of space was.#and blitz having no soul when he came back to life. having been fully cemented and decided to be the void's vessel.#... ok i think. the lore dump was uh. haha. a lot lol.

#for anyone confused: 'effect' is USUALLY the noun (meaning: 'consequence')#and affect the verb (meaning: 'to influence')#BUT effect is ALSO a (less common) VERB (meaning: 'to bring about')#so Word is hypercorrecting me because it only knows the more common meanings of 'effect' and 'affect'#I recommend the Wikipedia page on hypercorrection btw it's quite an interesting phenomenon!#I think there might be a noun meaning of 'affect' as well. because things WEREN'T confusing enough already#I've only seen it in older books but from context (and a quick dictionary search) I'm guessing the meaning is basically 'vibes'#'she had a studied affect' = she was very deliberate in the way she presented herself as far as I can tell#dictionaries give it as 'disposition' or 'tendency' but i think there's a little more nuance to the meaning than that#if anyone knows more about the usage of affect as a noun please let me know I'm very much guessing here#anyway. needless to say I have every sympathy with anyone who's ever got this sort of thing confused#it's an absolute minefield. And I Love It. but like. it is a pesky little trap and if it were an irl person and not MS word mixing this up#obvs I would just move on with my day becuase it Genuinely Does Not Matter how people use words as long as their meaning's comprehensible#(unless you are being paid. if you are an editor who is paid for this then knowing this stuff is Literally Your Job (well. one of them.))#but Word is a (not free) writing tool that is very widely used and its spellcheckers are very widely relied upon#so I think it's fair to say They Have A Responsibility To Their Users Dammit and I'm allowed to be a smug little nitpicker about it

LibreOffice has a whole application dedicated to mathematical formulas, with a little menu that gives the meaning of each symbol.

#I'm absolutely going to memorise them all and then misuse it for artistic purposes#stuff#it also has something called libreoffice draw that I'm going to have to take a look at#might be similar to ms paint? let's see#last time I had libre was on my ancient laptop#I've had two short lived ones since with actual microsoft office#but all I really used it for was actual school/college/uni work (that thing was long lived)#so I never explored beyond the basic word/powerpoint/excel equivalents

AND DW the last fic i wrote (in a rare burst of effort to explain the baby kinchan thing like a week ago..) i swear i was rush scanning the internet spellchecker for errors as i was posting it and i was STILL finding stuff like “Kinshhirou” and “arouind” every time i scrolled back over it havjshd
im normally able to spell the words i use everyday but i write stuff like this longhand and then type it up, so im looking at the paper when i type it and don’t actually glance at the screen till later. i honestly had one sentence where my hands must have gotten slightly misaligned with the keyboard and it was just genuine keysmash gibberish that i had to retype ha;jvksghd i was checking the whole thing for that stuff as i was rushing to post it before running out the door like. proofreading by the skin of my teeth a;kvjhsgd (im sorry to let you all know this is how i write)

my friend pondered a highschool au for their ttrpg ocs, and then i went 'hmm. interesting. what if my ocs?' and then, well,
#did this need a chart? no#is it necessary? absolutely not#was it fun? only until i realised draw.io doesnt have opacity :(#strictly speaking not every person listed here is a “character” ive played - some of them are family members#some of them are also from one-shots or non-characterful situations where theyre basically Just Names#eg Dean Mohan was a dragonborn ranger in a oneshot about going in an ice cave and killing a dragon#Ms. Sabine Kjelsdottir was a tiefling life cleric in a progressively-leveled arena in which she got killed by axebeaks at lvl2#some of the people listed are people who exist canonically for some characters but have made no tangible showing#eg Olivier Duval is Noelle's younger brother. in canon (as Yivien) he has only been mentioned offhand#as opposed to their sister Marie-Louise (Mariela) who is an npc in the campaign.#Zachary (Zimri) comes from a big family. no member of that family has been named or mentioned in the campaign at all#beyond the vaguest idea about what town zimri grew up in and what they used to do.#so including people like Paz Shani Aviel and Eden is sort of a vibes based thing#that they WOULD be here but are only like. pseudo-canonical almost#Henry (Eike) Wiater is Filip (Florian) Dziedic's cousin. and is based on the explicitly pseudo-canonical cousin of Florian#in that they recieved a bit of development behind the scenes just in case as a backup player character and then that was not necessary#and so theyre in a schrodingers pc situation. does eike really exist? great question#Calliope Desmond's ex husband and two kids are based on a note at the bottom of the word doc for that brief campaign#in which i said she had an ex and two kids. they never factored in at all#theres even another named character in that word doc that i havent included bc im not even sure how#and at some point you gotta go 'do you Need 6 extra characters related just to you'
