Wildest thing to me about the online safety act is that parental controls already exist on every device. Like my mp3 player has a parental controls option. Like why should i have to give up my privacy and risk my data being leaked because some people cant be bothered to check that their kids are safe online

Everyday of my life I learn I've been pronouncing a word wrong my entire life because I've only ever read it in my head.
Today's word is valet.

the world gets a lot easier when you learn to be wrong without getting pissed or doubling down. saying, ‘you’re right, that makes sense, I was misinformed, thanks for telling me’ instead of going to war over something your ego’s latched onto will save you time, energy, and the embarrassment of sounding like a whiny little bitch

This blog I read cited VAL-lay as coming into usage in British English as early as 1791 in Scotland and 1840 in England so I think VAL-lay is probably acceptable for British English speakers. Before that it was apparently typically anglicised as VAL-let though, so the "rhymes with mallet" pronunciation is counterintuitively the older one! Unless you count the original french, I suppose, which I presume did have a silent 't'...
I think I'd instinctivly follow the noun/verb convention of a VAL-ay but to val-AY, i.e. putting the emphasis second only for the verb usage, but I suspect American English uses val-AY for both noun and verb.
Everyday of my life I learn I've been pronouncing a word wrong my entire life because I've only ever read it in my head.
Today's word is valet.

Recently discovered, fully by accident, that the trick to feeling like you have more time in the day is to actually do shit with the time that's there, which seems fake and wrong and it's frankly infuriating that it works >:|

I'm at the doctor's office and a teenager who's like 7 fuckin feet tall just walked in and told the receptionist their name is Sequoia lmao. like is that a chosen name or did your parents somehow know you were gonna be the size of a redwood tree

It's so nice being on tumblr because you don't even have to make your own post but people would still follow you anyways if you're good at rebloging posts they like

The main problem with making sweeping statements about What Christians Believe is that most people don't know that they're heretics. I have folks in my own family who profess to be Romanian Orthodox but also believe in karma and the cycle of reincarnation. They're 100% convinced that this is scripturally supported.

to get a job you have to have 10 years of experience in every possible tool and task that could even tangentially be related to what you'll actually be doing and then you have to prove that you're the smartest person in the world and you're organised and proactive and have great problem solving skills. and then if you beg on your knees like a dog enough and actually get the job, the entire first week will be doing spent reading shit like: 'MANDATORY HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING: if the floor is SLIPPERY or BUMPY, you might TRIP. this is BAD. please take this test to check your knowledge. question 1: is tripping bad? yes/no'

its extremely important to read widely and deeply in a variety of genres. read obscure self published shit that only 4 people have read. read culturally relevant works of literature that have helped shape the canon. read horror. read women's lit. read historical fiction and comedies and nonfiction and hentai and poetry and science fiction and fantasy and mysteries and romance and good things and bad things and things u hate and things you love and things you COULD like if only the author changed x y and z and things which are beautiful but not meant for you.
doing all of this reading will lay a groundwork of rich complexity in your heart. so that you can write really good porn
