Character Headcanons: Jon Kent

1. He's a big Spider-Man fan and favorites Peter Parker. He has a lot of the comics, video games, all of the movies, and even has the action figures of Peter, Spider-Gwen, Miles, MJ, plus the Sinister Six and owns a Spider-Man hoodie and beanie too

2. He loves eating many ice cream flavors and likes adding many different toppings onto them

3. He has a big phobia of Peacocks and hates the fact that whenever he's at the Zoo, he has to end up facing them in person at some point, since they're always allowed to walk around the place freely. When he was really little, he would usually scream and cry if he saw them and would try to run or even fly away, causing both Lois and especially Clark to have to hold him down as best as they can and quickly go to a different path with him to get away. Now that he's older, he usually just cries to himself on the inside about it while having obvious panic on his face, gripping onto both of his parents hands or sleeves, and staying super close by their side safely, trying to walk fast out of there with them

4. His favorite flowers are Sunflowers. He loves how tall and beautifully lively they are

5. He isn't just taller than Damian, he's also like a giant standing next to other kids too, even his own brother Chris. Sometimes other kids are very surprised by this while others are a little afraid to mess with him because of it, even though he's obviously very friendly, which he usually tries to show them to reassure them that there's no need to be concerned

6. He loves singing while washing the dishes or making something to eat by himself, thinking he's all alone in the kitchen. Clark and Lois can always hear him though and always giggle and laugh together about it. They even have past recordings too of him doing this when he was too busy to actually notice them

7. He loves chocolate fudge cake with buttercream frosting

8. Just like how girl friends do when hanging out, he and Kathy sometimes have talks with eachother about boys, especially whenever Kathy wants to rant about the other ones that she knows if they did something to bother her

9. His favorite animated Disney movies are The little mermaid (she's also his fave Disney princess), Wreck-it Ralph 1, Ratatouille, Wall-E, and the Toy Story series

Thoughts on the Rebelde series

🚨🚨🚨 SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨🚨🚨

First thing first, I’m a fan of RBD and the og series so i wasn’t too exited for this new series, to be honest I wasn’t expecting much and my plans where to just do a hate watch and that’s it BUT my opinion changed and let me tell you why with some pros an cons

Pros

I literally was shocked when I saw Pilar on my screen in the first episode, was not a fan of her in the og rebelde but i was happy to see her 

Celina my beloved how amazing you are

The trama was good at first I liked that they didn’t do a new universe inspire by the og series and didn’t erased RBD, like they did some references in a few episodes and my nostalgic self was happy 

Dixon and Andi fav characters 

Dixon was cute and was very sweet with MJ, really loved his accent to the point that when he was on my screen i was hoping for him to talk a lot and I like that he was a good friend and was trying to make peace when the others where fighting, he has king energy and I love him

Andi i love how she was herself from the start and that she was a gay mess everytime Emilia was near, really loved how careful she was with Emilia when she told her that she hasn’t been with other girl, we support  queen Andi here 

Luka’s character was good and i liked how he was slowly realizing that he did care about the band and the way he changed his attitude once he was told that Esteban was his brother

The new set’s are cool wish we could’ve seen more of the school 

The original song and covers where good and Dixon’s rap was my fave

The uniforms look really cool and they way they styled them was good to watch, special mention to Dixon’s skirts and Lukas outfits

I like how MJ changed in every episode like you could see from the first episode that she was kind of shy and that everything was so new to her and seeing her be free and happy with herself at the end was cool

Cons

The lodge trama, I like it but I think they could have done more yk, like just 8 episodes wasn’t enough, I remember in the og series that the lodge was a big deal for a lot of episodes and it was predictable that Sebas was the leader but bonus points for the secretary being part of it, really took me by surprise 

Marcelo being Esteban’s dad was a bit predictable they set it up good but I knew like two episodes before Esteban’s mom said it  

I was so sure that one of the RBD members would make a cameo but 🤡🤡🤡 I was at the edge when MJ saw Roberta’s clothes thinking that Dulce Maria would appear behind her 

I hated that netflix did the sex scenes but you know it’s netflix and they love to sexualize teenagers so 

The songs, please if they’re gonna use the songs please just use them in the background or something like in Mamma Mia here we go again when they used chiquitita in one scene but it was just the instrumental (idk if it was chiquitita) but please don’t try and do new versions, the og’s are good and should not be touch, I get that they want another generation of fans but pls make original music like RBD did with Rebelde way if you know what i mean 

Now with the character’s, Esteban and Jana where ok but i wish they didn’t make them a couple so soon, and bc of that I couldn’t enjoy them much

MJ was great in the first few episode’s but with Sebas manipulating her to make her think that Jana was pushing her to be her shadow ruined her for me a bit, I understand why she did that in the final episode but at the same time I didn’t like it so I hope in the second season they fix it, I love her and Dixon together tbh. 

I think this is all i have to say for now, I liked the series and it was more than I expected so kudos to netflix for making me change my opinion on this new idea and please remember this is my opinion and that I’m judging based on my nostalgia, I think it was great and that they will have a bunch of new fans if they keep it interesting enough in the future maybe I’ll do a rewatch or something

i also love writing fics w people in mind! so birthday’s or just because i think they’ll like them! so any gift fics are so fun.

My name’s MJ. I’ve been writing fic most of my life (started in the 80s with passing notebooks with friends) in multiple fandoms. I’ve posted works for BTVS/Angel, Twilight, TWD, SPN, MCU, and varied real person fics. I’m a Capricorn, queer, she/her, married, dog + cat mom, witch, Gen X — how many other labels can I cram in here?It took me far too long to find my way to Dean Winchester (started watching on Netflix in 2016) and I’m in denial of 15.20 except the domesticity. 🐶

Wait Till My Brother Gets Home

Summary: She wants to lose control and Sam knows just what she needs in order to do it.

Why the author likes this fic:

I love writing Winchester threesomes. I’m obsessed with comparing and contrasting them. I’ve written several (as well as a J2 poly series) and every time I’m able to find a new facet that I didn’t think about before. With this fic, I tapped into a sort of ephemeral yet languid, dreamy state of absolute decadence. It’s not a love story, but it’s still intimate and I fell in love with the brothers all over again writing this!

Triptych

Summary: Dean’s on a case and meets two beautiful women. One of them is recently divorced and the new couple invite Dean to help them kick-off their new life together.

Why the author likes this fic:

As much as I love the dynamic of threesomes and polyamory, I’ve mostly written MMF! This came from a prompt when I still had a Patreon. I love the relationship between the women and how they trust Dean. The way he unfurled in my mind under the premise of giving these women something they wanted was really beautiful and fun to write!

For Whom The Bell Tolls

Summary: In the books, Soldier Boy calls out the names of US states when he fights. What if live-action Soldier Boy made his sex partners list all 50 states and the federal district in alphabetical order before he lets them come, and if they slip up or pause for too long or say anything other than the name of a state in the correct order, he withholds and makes them start over?

Why the author likes this fic:

I wrote this last year without any idea what to expect from Jensen’s Soldier Boy, but man was it fun to imagine! I’m a big fan of power exchanges and orgasm denial/delay kind of fascinates me. Writing out something as you imagine how it feels is kind of a head trip! Still not sure quite what to expect from Soldier Boy when he finally graces our screens, but I’ll always love this one regardless.

Discord & Rhyme

Summary: The demon is on the prowl.

Why the author likes this fic:

Like many people, I love Demon Dean. I love watching him, reading about him, talking about him, writing about him — you get the picture. I also love writing erotic horror and Demon Dean is prime material for that. This was a bingo square for 2019 kink bingo #scent kink and I went a little crazy with the sensory experience but I swear to god it’s like a 5-course meal or something.

Seasons

Summary: She is his safe haven, untouched by his world.

Why the author likes this fic:

Every time I think of Dean Winchester my first reaction is :dreamy sigh:, second is :KEYSMASH:, last is :VIOLENT SOBBING:. He deserves everything good and right in the world and I want to give it to him whenever I can. While this fic gets a little angsty in spots, it’s just to round it all out, make it feel a little more real — nothing’s perfect, but wouldn’t normal be great for him? I loved creating a world where he could disappear if only for a few hours.

Author’s Fic Recommendations:

Dear Mr. Fantasy by @itmighthavebeenintentional

Summary: Sometimes when he sleeps, Dean sees flashes of other Dean Winchesters, in other universes.

Why the author likes this fic:

This is another one of those Dean deserves everything good and right fulfillments. Val is a vivid and loving storyteller and this 2k word snapshot of an alternate universe Dean Winchester as a devoted husband, aging gracefully and content (if even for the recent, confusing dreams) is like a wooby. It’s achy and soft and swoony and heart wrenching all at once. As a Ride Or Die Dean girl, I am always awed by Val’s characterization of Dean. This is just so gorgeous.

Summary: One of the seven deadly sins featuring snippets of a dying dream.

Why the author likes this fic:

I love every word that Lou chooses to grace us with so it wasn’t a simple task to choose one of the many, but this is exquisite and unexpected. There are very few writers who can craft beauty around such dark content, but Lou’s able to do that with care and flourish. This is terrifying and sexy and dramatic in a way that takes my breath away with each read.

Look, About Last Night by @littlegreenplasticsoldier

Summary: You and Dean have an excellent hunt and you go out and get drunk and “celebrate”. It’s a disaster, but neither of you remember it, so I graciously fill you in on that and then sit back to watch Dean lose his shit.

Why the author likes this fic:

Ali is so fucking funny. This wasn’t the first of hers that I read, but it’s the one I randomly think about when I’m in line at the City Market and burst into laughter, embarrassing myself and scaring the shit out of the cashier. Seriously, it’s hysterical — until it’s suddenly very, very hot. Like toe-curling sexy, spot-on characterization, witty and hilarious dialogue. Just read it. lollllll

Dutiful by @stusbunker

Summary: ‘It wasn’t that he needed to touch her, it was just that he knew what his hands could do to those thighs. It wasn’t about him, sure they would be smooth and thick in his hands, but that wasn’t why he kept staring. She needed something and he could give it to her.’

Why the author likes this fic:

Stu’s been coming for my soul since 2019 and I’m not mad about it. Her turns of phrase are breathtaking, insightful, and sexy. Her characterizations ring true and are full of color. This fic holds the trademark edge of desperation, fight or flight, like much of Stu’s work and it’s beautifully claustrophobic. I find myself scrolling right back to the top sometimes after reading it because I don’t know what else to do with myself. It’s fucking fantastic.

The Things We Lost In The Fire by @lastactiontricia

Summary: What does it really take to survive in SPN Land? What does it take to survive Dean?

Why the author likes this fic:

This is a dark, beautiful mind-fuck. Trasha is one of the most generous creators I’ve experienced. Her words and rhythm are utterly unique and magical. This fic comes with warnings to be sure. It’s a beguiling What If..., a wild ride, and you won’t think about Dean Winchester the same way after reading it.

how peter fell for mj

ok let’s do this one last time, folks. spideychelle month week 3 has a day for your fav moment and honestly one of my faves that don’t get the cred it deserves is mj’s sly subtle takedown of flash on the plane. i love that scene so goddamn much. it was literally all i needed to buy peter crushing on mj from the get go. mj cares about him and he dug that and i couldnt fucking blame him that he did, especially since he’s school outcast peter parker.

but since apparently ~some~ people have higher standards than me, i decided to fill in the blanks for them and so this headcanons post was born. (it died but i’m remaking it again instead of finishin a wip cus i dont effing want to finish it hahaha)

after hoco, peter’s decided to take his time in trying to be an avenger and just settles for now on staying on the ground as the friendly neighborhood spider-man.

since he isn’t as eager to prove himself anymore, settled on just being spidey for now, he starts to transition back to getting some semblance of his old normal high school life which meant getting back to academic decathlon.

after he actually spends more time again on academic decathlon and he actually winds up attending a competition again, that they manage to win because of him, leading to him sharing an awkward hug-shake with mj,

he’s suddenly knocked on the head by the realization... holy shit are mj and i, friends???

it just happens slowly of course. peter starts to notice mj’s blatant if you actually stop and think about it for a while observation of him and finds himself paranoid doubting himself and wondering if they actually happened at all.

think of him as being the real life equivalent of the sunny conspiracy meme in regards to mj’s lil look and glances

you know, that thing in highschool where you’re so unsure whether or not someone’s actually interested in you so you end up overanalyzing everything they do

“because i mean when i glanced at her direction, i could have sworn she was looking at me, but then i did a double take and she wasn’t anymore. it’s probably nothing, right?”

“yup” ned replies, not even taking his eyes off of the game on his phone. he’s mostly tuned out peter’s musings by now and just on autopilot replies yup and i don’t know every now and then

“but then what if it was???”

this has gone on for quite a while. one could sympathize for ned’s autopilot mode.

peter starts to notice how nice mj is to him and how they’ve actually spent quite a bit of time together what with decathlon, sitting together or around each other at lunch, and mj coincidentally being at detention every time peter is there as well

she tells him she’s there to draw people in crisis and has been doing so long before peter found himself there

but then peter stays at school a little longer than he plans to since he forgot he ran out of web solution and had to make some more, but when he passed by the detention room that time, mj was nowhere to be found

“WAS SHE ONLY THERE BECAUSE OF HIM???” peter tortures himself thinking

but seriously tho, peter finds himself at awe that mj doesn’t have more friends since she is so genuinely kind and fascinating to talk to

“she hides her kindness under a layer of dry sarcasm and deadpan jokes, but it’s there alright”

peter thinks that with his hectic double life superhero schedule, it’d be much more efficient to cut him off from the team, but mj insists that it’s fine and makes efforts to keep him updated on what happens and what he missed and what he should study up on

and honestly, peter is just at awe every time he talks to mj.

“i feel like i just binged the buzzfeed unsolved series and selection of netflix documentaries, and read the entirety of reddit, and 10 huffington post articles from just a couple of hours of talking to mj”

she knows so much more about the dark comings and goings in the world than him, an actual “superhero”

he is just so starstruck over the fact that someone who knows that much could just fly by everyone else’s radar like that

so basically i just think that peter just finally notices and responds to mj’s affection for him and because of such, starts reciprocating it and admiring all her cute lil eccentricities and quirks as well.

MBTI’ing the OTP: Valentine’s Day Special

These are just my personal ships, FYI - you don’t like em, no problem. Just thought I’d analyze the MBTI types of all my faves. Happy Valentine’s Day.

Friends: Chandler and Monica - ISFJ & ESFJ

If I had to pick my idea of a great IRL romance, this would be it. Best friends who fall in love. Chandler is the ISFJ, hesitant, eager to be liked, sticking to his guns and more practical in some ways than Monica. Monica has been typed as both ESTJ & ESFJ, and I can see a case for both - she’s ESFJ on this site and ESTJ on others. Either way, she’s more controlling and uptight than Chandler, but in some ways less practical and more emotion-driven. They make an interesting couple that works surprisingly well, who manage to balance out each others’ strengths and weaknesses nicely.

Steven Universe: Ruby and Sapphire - ESTP & INFJ

The OTP to end them all, Ruby and Sapphire are an interesting case of opposites attracting. They have the exact inverted functions of each other, Se-Ti-Fe-Ni, and combine to form the ISTP Garnet. Ruby is impulsive and Sapphire sees the future. Ruby is aggressive and Sapphire patient. They’re a great match, though potentially volatile since they’re so opposite and yet so similar. It makes crazy sense for characters with inverted functions to form a permafusion.

Harry/Ginny (ISFP/ESTP)

Everyone has a HP OTP, it seems, and mine is HG. These two have a pretty classic MBTI romance combination - both SP artisans, who like living in the moment and are often impulsive. Harry is more emotional and broody and Ginny is more logical and practical. One interesting point that I think makes these two compatible is that Harry’s Fi makes him hard to talk to and comfort easily; it takes someone with extraordinary tact and patience to get him to communicate, and Ginny has that as a Ti/Fe user - a strong perception of others’ needs. Makes them pretty perfect for each other.

Swarkles Robin/Barney (ISTP/ENTP)

These two have a rather unusual combination of MBTI - Both high Ti users but different perceiving functions. Robin, the ISTP, is a clear pragmatist who has difficulty with emotions. Barney is a big idea guy who bounces from one thing to the next endlessly, with the philosophy that new is always better. Both are a bit on the impulse, fun-loving side in this case, making for a very whacky couple with lots of sitcom adventures. Favorite line between them: “I’m such a mess, why do you even like me?” “I guess cause you’re almost as messed up as I am.”

Buffy/Faith (ESFP/ESTP)

Time to put my Buffy-verse OTPs out there! Once upon a time, I did ship Spuffy, but I’ve turned to the Fuffy side of things as time went by. Anyway, Buffy and Faith are both Se noms who love action and living in the moment. This goes badly for them in “Bad Girls” but there is a certain degree of mutual understanding between two Se doms. The difference is their T/F functions - Faith is utilitarian and Buffy inwardly moral. However, as the series goes on they come to a better understanding of each other. I always enjoy their chemistry, even if they don’t get to be canon.

Angel/Cordelia (ISFJ/ESTJ)

My biggest Buffy-verse OTP, one most people don’t get into without seeing the spinoff show Angel. But Cangel has my heart. I love slow-burn friendship ships. Anyway, the MBTI. Both strong Si users, but with a nice balance between them; Angel has the ideals and empathy that influence Cordelia to be a kinder person with his Si/Fe;  Cordy has the grounded practicality to keep Angel from disappearing into broodiness, and they balance each other out perfectly for the first 3 seasons of the show. Definitely love this one and always angry at Whedon for not letting it happen.

Daria/Jane (INFP/ISFP)

Don’t know if  y’all have seen Daria, but check it out of you have the time. It’s great. Anyway, another one with two of the same dominant functions: Both Fi’s. This means they’re both highly moral introverts who love artistic expression but struggle with expressing feelings aloud. That’s Daria and Jane, all right. The contrasting perceiving functions show in how Jane is more willing to engage in the world and give stuff (cheerleading at one point) a try, while Daria is more hesitant and less engaged. I do ship them - they’re best friends and the show wasn’t shy about teasing them. Noncanon ship here.

Clois - Clark Kent/Lois Lane (ISFP/ESTP)

I love these two in any incarnation - I’m a sucker for bickering friends to lovers - but my favorite is Smallville. The same MBTI makeup as Harry/Ginny earlier - I guess I like this combination. Again, part of what makes it work is the similar perceiving functions, but nicely balanced TF opposites. FI can get a little brooding and introverted on itself, while Ti/Fe can sometimes become too pragmatic and insensitive, so they help each other out in a lot of ways. Something about Clark/Lois just works for me - another pairing of a sweetheart dreamer and a snarky pragmatist who bicker because they care.

Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy (ESFP/ENFJ)

My favorite incarnation of these two is the animated series version - they have such great chemistry there and Timm says they are canon here. Anyway, this combo is rather frequent in fiction, ENFJ often paired off with high Se users for some reason. Ivy as the ENFJ has a lot of tact, perception and motherly behavior that helps her sweet-talk and care for the impulsive and damaged Harley. Harley, the ESFP, has a certain knack for connecting to others, and helps Ivy avoid becoming too misanthropic, since Ivy kinda hates humans in general. Great pair of wicked gal pals.

Frasier’s Niles/Daphne (INFJ/ENFP)

One of my rare pairings with complete opposite functions. But in some ways my very first OTP. They’re both Intuitive dominants, dreamers with their minds in the clouds, who are attracted to each other but take forever to act on it in any way. Both are emotionally driven - Niles outwardly, Daphne inwardly - with strong personal ethics; tertiary Thinking functions, and inferior Sensing functions. They’re definitely opposites attract, but with a caveat of perfectly aligning functions. I love this ship so damn much; it’s such a great mix of hot chemistry and tender love.

Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson (INTP/ENFP)

Peter and MJ have many different incarnations, with varying functions. The consistent seems to be that Peter uses some kind of Ti (ISFJ, ISTP, ESTP, INTP) and is usually an introvert, while MJ is an extrovert with a strong intuitive function (ENFP/ENFJ) or occasionally adapted into an ISFP. Either way, my favorite version is the comics, which lean towards the first interpretation. As an iNTP I get along well with the ENFPs in my life, but more importantly I love this pairing too. High Ne combo that sees the possibilities in the world, and the classic Ti/Te balance.

MCU Stucky - Steve/Bucky (ISFJ/ESTP)

I have some other MM slash pairs, but they’re mostly from anime so they’re not on this list. Anyway, Stucky. Both Fe/Ti users, with dominant sensing functions of different perceptions. Steve is more of a stick-to-it kinda guy, Bucky is more willing to try other options (this pops up a lot in their interactions, with Bucky suggestion different Paths and Steve not backing down. Who says Se’s are more stubborn than Si’s?). There is a great devotion between the two, though. I know it won’t be canon but that never stopped anyone from shipping before.

Gravity falls Dipper/Pacifica (INTJ/ESTJ)

Another noncanon one. This is a very unusual combo, I can’t think of many stories that even have these two types. Both are high Te users, which in this case practically guarantees a Bickering Sexual Tension kind of relationship. Both are pragmatic and long-term planners, with Dipper being an Ni-dom who overplans and over-thinks everything, Pacifica a strong pragmatist. Both are Type A’s with a lot in common, who learn from each other. His stronger Fi function helps her come to terms with her lower Fi, and act morally. It’s very sweet.

Parks and Recreation Andy/April (ENFP/INTP?)

I’m a little uncertain of April’s type, since I’ve seen lots of different typings for her across the board. My best guess for now is INTP. Another pairing I just adore, this time canon and married. They’ve got just a great balance, both being impulsive dreamers but one more openly affectionate and the other more reticent and practical. These two just work well together - balanced and loving and supportive. The strong Ne they both share (I think they do) makes for some great vague and impractical connections. I fell in love with this ship right away, as soon as my cousin showed me the episode where they move in with Ben.

CSI Grissom/Catherine (INTP/ESTP)

Grillows is another ship that I regret not being Canon, since they have some serious chemistry. Both are strong Ti users, practical and analytical, but with contrasting perceiving functions. He likes theories, she likes to go out and do. This creates that kind of contrasting Holmes and Watson style duo between them, though Grissom is not always right, and Catherine tends to balance out his more theoretical and distant attitude nicely. She can make mistakes too, like being too impulsive or emotional, but it always feels like there’s good points on each side.

Pride and Prejudice: Elizabeth/Darcy (ENFP/INTJ)

One ship that me and Charity (and let’s face it, most people) share. They just work so perfectly together. Two intuitive dominants with big ideas, similarly blunt Te manners of analyzing and addressing logic, and reticent Fi that makes it hard for them to just talk about their feelings. The journey from bad first impression to happy ending is so enthralling every time. Austen definitely created a timeless winner with this one.

Lost Enough

Summary: Junior year has just begun, and MJ is more excited to get back to school than she would care to admit. She may act like she hates school, and she does regularly protest the corruption of the American education system, but going to school gets her out of the house and gives her something to focus on... And occasionally, someone, though she would not admit it if someone held a gun to her head. Slowly but surely, MJ finds herself drifting closer to Ned Leeds and Peter Parker outside of decathlon, even though they’re total losers and she definitely isn’t at all flattered when they start inviting her to things. MJ is hoping that maybe this friendship will finally strangle the lingering obsession thing she’s had for Peter for a while, but it only seems to intensify as the pair forms a fairly unlikely and dysfunctional friendship. However, MJ’s whole world is turned upside down when she manages to catch Spider-Man off guard-- and maybe blackmails him a little. With the promise of an exclusive interview after Spider-Man manages to expose the cause of a series of child abductions, MJ finds herself more involved in the superhero-ing than either of them expected. But they can’t continue this treacherous game forever without someone getting hurt, especially with MJ’s suspicions about Spider-Man’s identity becoming stronger and stronger.

So, blackmailing the Spider-Man is a lot easier than it should be.

MJ stares up at the figure above her as he quickly peers from side to side, trying to see if there is any way out of his situation. She can hear him muttering under his breath. MJ focuses on listening, grateful for the particular knack for eavesdropping she possesses as an aspiring journalist. If it were not for her keener than average ears, she would not be able to make out, "Karen, initiate... Voice distortion... Software."

"Something you'd like to share with the class?"

The Spider-Man stiffens at the sound of her voice, and his head turns sharply to look at her.

"Okay, okay, so here's what we're gonna do," the hero begins. His voice is deep, much deeper than it was a moment ago. Granted, MJ could not have recognized much from a single expletive, but the change is drastic enough to be noticeable.

"What's with the Morgan Freeman thing you've got going on now?" MJ questions, arching an unimpressed eyebrow.

"Well. it's- wait, I don't sound like Morgan Freeman."

"I hate to break it to you, but you definitely sound like Morgan Freeman."

"The software wasn't designed to sound like Morgan Freeman!"

"Hmm, well, maybe I've got it wrong. You'll have to keep talking, maybe recite, I dunno, your age, address, secret identity-"

"Nice try."

"-the lines of every role played by Morgan Freeman-"

"Please, say Morgan Freeman one more time."

"Anything for you, Spider-Boy," MJ retorts. Anyone who does not know MJ would think she is just being standoffish. However, though she does not smile, there is a hint of a smirk on her lips and a glimmer of excitement in her dark irises.

Her reply seems to catch the Spider-Man off-guard. He blinks several times with those large, animated white eyes, and MJ's amusement only grows. She does not mind the moment to examine the hero further, taking in the suit and the way that the eyes seem to be mirroring whatever facial expressions are underneath. Yeah, the powers are one thing, but the suit is another... It means that Spider-Man somehow has access to extremely advanced tech, or he knows someone who does.

"You still with me?" she presses him.

"Huh? Oh, yeah," stammers the hero. She has to admit that the deepness of the voice combined with the hero's sentence structure is a bit strange. MJ decides he must be young, simply based on the way he talks. Another odd thing she notices is that he is always moving-- tapping the wall that he clings to with a finger, at the moment, until he stops in favor of slowly hopping down to stand in front of her. "Alright, so... You can have your interview, okay? I promise. But now is definitely not the time."

"See, that sounds great, except for the fact that once you leave I have no way of contacting you and you have every means of avoiding me," MJ replies, and there is no joking around now. All banter aside, MJ is a hound dog, and she is closing in on exactly what she wants. She needs a story, and if she is going to get that, she needs him.

The Spider-Man is making a strange expression, MJ can even tell through the mask. She is sure that if she took it off, she would see a grimace.

"Right..." he says slowly. "But that isn't going to be an issue, because... Um..." His mind is clearly whirring as he glances around the empty alleyway, almost as if he is turning to the dumpster beside them for ideas. "Oh, right!"

Before MJ has a chance to protest, her phone is being yanked from her grip by a thin stream of web. A startled, indignant exclamation leaves her lips, but the Spider-Man does not leave with her phone. Instead, he is typing in it-- punching in a number.

"There," he says, satisfied as he passed the phone back to MJ. She immediately snatches it back and checks to make sure he has not deleted the recording. If he has, she will have to ask one of the Midtown tech geeks to get the files back for her, and it will be quite a hassle to do that and still keep her independent reputation. "The number I put in your phone links to a burner I have. I'll text it within the next few days with a meeting place, alright? I promise. But seriously. This place isn't safe right now, and it's already almost nighttime."

MJ glances up at the sky, and her eyes widen in surprise. The masked hero is right. It isn't sunset, exactly, but it is the time of day where the sun's light comes down golden from a tilted angle, and shadows are beginning to lengthen. "Shit," she mumbles, brushing aside a lock of hair that is falling in her eyes. "I am gonna be so late for work."

"Work?" the hero says in surprise, and MJ quickly shoots him a glare.

"Yeah, I work. We don't all have time to be running around Queens in glorified red morph suits, some of us-"

"Glorified red morph suits?"

"-actually have to pay rent."

"Well, yeah, but... I mean, you're a kid."

"And yet I'm still taller than you," MJ hummed sweetly, shooting him a faux smile of serenity. "If I don't get a text on the burner in the next three days, I will post the footage online and have it edited into saying some stuff that you don't want the world hearing. I know people."

MJ is surprisingly good at editing video, to say the least. She has a reputation for it around Midtown after a particular video was posted of Principal Morita confessing his undying love for Flash Thompson. The original footage had come from a school news broadcast, but MJ had gotten creative. She will never actually doctor this footage, of course. Editing the footage and publishing it would be circulating false information, and MJ is of the strong opinion that a well-informed electorate is the key to a democracy. However, she is banking on the fact that Spider-Man does not know this.

And she is late, so she is a bit more sadistic than usual. "See ya later, Spider-Child."

"Spider-Man... W-wait, stop!" he exclaims.

MJ had been moving to leave, but she turns around to face him now. "What?"

"Look, this is big. Bigger than it looks, I think. And if you're going to get this story, I'll need your help, okay? I think it's a story that is going to need to be told. But this time, I'm going in alone. No other Avengers. And there are people that I could go to, but I need someone discreet, for help with analytics, all that. And I need to know that you'll back out, for your own safety, if I tell you to."

"And you're going to trust someone whose name you don't even know like that?" MJ hums, surprised. "Trusting a stranger could get you majorly screwed over someday."

"But you're not-" he stammers. MJ felt her own eyes widen, and he seems to realize his mistake.

"Not what?" she says slowly.

"You're not... Like... That," he finishes lamely.

"And you should be thankful for that." And then, before the Spider-Man can say anything else, MJ has turned to begin walking away. "Michelle. It's Michelle, Jones."

She leaves the Spider-Man struggling for a comeback in the alleyway.

The next day at school, MJ pays much less attention than she usually does, and that is saying something.

MJ is better at learning independently, so she usually spends class-time reading the material through herself and then waiting for the class to catch up while she sketches or reads her book. Today, however, MJ is clearly spacing out in Chemistry, not even bothering to look over her classwork. Instead, she is taking messy notes in what appears to be a legal pad. No one notices, and she trusts that no one will. They don't, until lunch.

MJ sits in her usual spot without anything but a bag of almonds in front of her. It is being largely ignored in favor of the notepad, but after a few moments, MJ feels a faint tickle in the back of her mind that tells her something is off, just a little bit, as though the scales of normalcy are slightly askew. It only takes her a few seconds to realize exactly what it is. Every day, MJ sits here while Parker and Leeds jabber about something nerdy and she tunes it out. Today, there isn't anything to tune out, so MJ looks up and finds that her eyes meet immediately with those of Leeds and Parker, both of whom are staring at her like she is currently growing another head.

"Can I help you?" MJ draws out, giving both a glance that is somewhere between annoyed and expectant as she arches an eyebrow.

"Well, um, it's just-" Leeds stammers, his eyes wide and fearful. He glances over at Parker, who looks equally flustered. MJ's heart skips a beat as she catches a glimpse of the boy with the messy brown curls and the wide, startled eyes.

Is that an arrhythmia? She's going to have to get that checked out.

"N-Normally, right, we sit here," Parker starts, gesturing to their table.

"Riveting," MJ deadpans, but before she can turn back to her book, he is talking again.

"No, no, so we're talking, right, and then you always, you know..." He is fumbling for words, and MJ can practically see the gears turning in that brain of his, the one that she can't understand because it somehow is only capable of seeing good.

"Interrupt," Ned finishes. His eyes shoot open wide when MJ shoots him a glare, and then he is stammering again. "N-no, wait, it isn't exactly interrupting, I mean... You normally just sarcasm at us from over there."

"I sarcasm at you," MJ repeats, her other eyebrow shooting up to join its partner the search for her hairline.

"From... over... there..." Ned mumbles. He looks genuinely afraid for his life.

"Not that we mind," Parker interjects, and when MJ looks at him she is extremely grateful for the fact that she doesn't blush. If any other girl were looked at that way, with the dark, round puppy eyes, they would probably just be a puddle on the floor. How the hell was Liz immune to this kid?

She wasn't MJ reminded herself as a pang shot through her chest.

"Yeah, of course not," Ned fumbles. "I mean, your rants about feminism, and the Sokovia accords, and... everything..." Peter shoots him a look that says danger, and Ned quickly pushes forward. "I mean, they're the reason I'm passing history."

"And you know more trivia about Fantasy movies than either of us combined, so it's not like we mind. But you aren't doing it today," of Parker finished.

"It's not like I care what happens in Hollywood," she mutters, looking back down at her notepad. "Celebrities are images of perfection used to entice taxpayers to give their hard-earned money over to the entertainment industry."

"Right..." Peter says slowly.

MJ stares at the both of them for a minute, and then she decides to do something incredibly stupid.

"Tom Felton's pockets had to be sewn shut to keep him from sneaking food on-set during The Prisoner of Azkaban."

"No way, really?" Ned chortles as he moves down to MJ's side of the table, bringing his homemade lunch with him. Peter scoots down to, leaning over on his elbow as he pops a slightly-charred cookie in his mouth. "Malfoy's my new favorite."

"So I've heard that Rowling personally gave Evanna Lynch her role as Luna Lovegood, is that true?" Parker asks earnestly. Part of her knows that he is only trying to keep her talking.

The other part of her doesn't care.

The question about the actress immediately plunges them into an in-depth discussion about how the cast of Harry Potter are essentially the same people as their characters, punctuated with MJ's sarcastic quips and slightly unsure pauses when MJ plunges to an end of the current conversation, only for Peter to pick up a new one. and then lunch somehow ends way sooner than it normally does. By the time it is over, MJ has somehow accepted an invitation over to Peter's house to marathon the movies the following night, which is a Friday.

MJ walks out of the lunchroom feeling a strange warmth in her chest. For anyone else, it might be described as a spring in their step or a glimmer in their eye. For MJ, it does not manifest in any outward manner. MJ would much prefer to keep her feelings pent up inside where they will never see the light of day. But something about this makes her feel buoyant, special. It feels almost sacred because MJ clicks so well with the pair of friends that have just been the two of them forever.

When MJ plops down at her seat in Pre-Calculus, she pulls out the notepad to return to the untidy scrawl of notes from her conversation from the previous night. It then that her phone buzzes in her pocket, and MJ pauses. She only leaves notifications on for news alerts and text messages, and most of the time her mother is too hungover to text. So that doesn't leave anyone else, except...

MJ pulls out her phone and presses the button.

Im so scared for her because they tossed Monica's therapy aside for.... no reason its seems and then they made Sam a side character in his own show.... and fucked up his views on racism around the world halfway through the series after establishing in every episode that he was highly aware of his blackness in comparison to Steve and Buckys whiteness. I fear they're gonna try some gun violence BLM black trauma storyline tht we've seen over and over and over again and completely side line who Riri actually is.

And THEN im scared because this fandom recks of racism and misogynoir and ik theyre gonna immediately hate on Riri especially Tony fans because shes "replacing" him. And if Tony us anywhere in the show all of #those fans will talk about that and completely skip over anything thats happening in the story with Riri. And yall can't say yall dont do it because yall did it with Sam yall bashed the shit out of Zendaya when she was announced as MJ, some of yall was talking shit about Black Panther just a few days ago, yall didnt even bother talking about Lamar, and yall tried to write Sarah off as a stepping stone for Buckys healing???? Its like the only time yall care for black people is when you can claim them as gay and have your white fave fuck them. And even then ik most of yall prefer Stucky anyways but thats for another day. I don't trust yall not to pull some shit with Riri. Black fans are gonna be on here fighting and protecting her and trying to get her a CRUMB of attention that any mediocre white character will get more of but we're gonna do it anyway.

I will be checking and blocking that shit on site as soon as I see some bullshit tho. Best fucking believe that.

I know we don’t have much information about the show yet, but I’m starting to get concerned about Ironheart. There’s been a long standing issue with how Black characters are written in this universe, and even with this new TV platform it’s already off to a bad start given the poor treatment of Monica and now Sam. Heck, even what happened with Lamar. I know people are saying “that’s the point,” but I still think they could have found another way instead of a tired old trope. I hope they remove that gun violence that’s in her comic origin I don’t need or want to see lackluster commentary around it. Plus it always felt like that was there cause she’s from Chicago IMO. Hopefully, the writing team actually wants to write a good story for her which doesn’t seem the case with Sam on his show. As far as “iron fam” members being on her show, I’d be fine with Rhodey being her mentor as long as they do not make them related, or say he knew one of her parents from the Air force. That’s it though no one else and that Ai of Tony is not needed. I really hope Riri doesn’t get treated like a side character on her own show. The track record with Black female characters is either to not be included at all or they are written as props like Monica and Maria were. BP remains an exception where the Black women there were shown the most respect.

Glamour magazine hosted its annual Women of the Year Awards to honor all of the female game changers in Hollywood. And, of course, fab directress Ava DuVernay was inducted in this year’s class of women who are trailblazing and pushing boundaries in Hollywood.

The gorgeous (and newly single) Niecy Nash, who starred in Ava’s Netflix series “When They See Us,” presented Ava with the award and praised her for what she brings to the industry and how fabulous she is overall.

“Ava DuVernay affirms you and assures you; she validates your choices as an artist. She makes each actor feel like you’re her favorite—‘Wait, she likes them that much, too?’ She is indeed that gorgeous dreadlocked woman we know, in the gowns, on the red carpet, but her sweet spot is on the couch, eating Pinkberry—absolutely with toppings."

“At the core, we are two girls straight out of Compton, trying to use our talents to be of service to the world,” the "Claws" actress continued. “Through her production company, Array, Ava creates opportunities for underrepresented storytellers, like a 50% female production crew on her latest series, Cherish the Day. Her goal for When They See Us wasn’t, ‘Let me tell a story that will be critically acclaimed, so I can be the industry darling.’ It was, ‘Let me tell a story about the pain that people have suffered. Let me shine a light of truth.' Now that light is shining. And because she’s smart, she made sure the series was critically acclaimed too. Because the size of that light means more people will see."

"I am blessed to know Ava as an artist and a friend. I’m double dipping. Normally I don’t advocate jealousy but I’m saying, if you are jealous of me, rightfully so. Because what the rest of the world sees in her art, I see in her heart," she concluded.

  During Ava's acceptance speech, she talked about the importance of inclusion and encouraged women to keep building BOMB empires to show the world just how fabulous and bad a** women can be.

  "Inclusion is about creating a seat at the table for all of us," the SELMA directress told the audience. "Pulling up a chair for those left out. It denotes an absence being remedied."

I also believe in making our own doors, disrupting all systems built in such a way that inclusion is even needed in the first place. My truth is I don’t want a chair at the table. Or even three or even half anymore. I want the table to be rebuilt. In my likeness. And in the likeness of others long forced out of the room.

She shared examples to prove that institution building Institution building can look however we want.

"And their excellence. My excellence. Your excellence. The excellence of those who will come after us is within oneself, only experienced when the rhythm is in perfect working order. When we aren’t striving for seats. When we build new tables, new paradigms. New institutions. Or none at all.

"I urge us all to assert a presence of excellence, to build our own monuments. In our own likeness. For ourselves. And to bring the truth with us. Every time."

"Grown-ish" actress Yara Shahidi (above styling in a Schiaparelli dress alongside her mom Keri Shahidi) was also honored during the awards ceremony, and she too, shared some words of wisdom.

  Professional soccer player Megan Rapinoe snapped it up with Muslim model Halima Aden after accepting her Woman of the Year Award. During her speech, she thanked former 49ers quarterback/activist Colin Kapernick.

She said Colin demonstrated “courage and bravery” and was “filled with conviction, unafraid of the consequences. Because he knew, it really wasn’t about playing it safe. It was about doing what is necessary and backing down to exactly nobody.”

Spider-Man Homecoming Thoughts

People may not want to read if you haven’t seen Spider-Man Homecoming yet, but I’ve just seen the movie last night and I’ve gotta say, wow! I thought it was a brilliant movie! I’m not saying it was perfect in every way, but there were so many things they got right this time and I am so happy they seem to have done a good job of rebooting the Spider-Man franchise.  Anyway, this is just me sharing some of my thoughts on the movie.

*SPOILER ALERT*

1. Tom Holland as Spider as Peter/Spidey Perfect casting choice and great acting from him all around. Tom’s Peter is exactly how I imagine a young Spidey to be. He isn’t obnoxious, too much of a nerd or too cool (like Garfield was), but he’s is still an introverted kid, kind of nerdy, not to mention cute, adorable and most importantly, relatable. Prior to this movie, I always thought Toby Maguire did it best, but Tom is definitely the one true Peter Parker for me now (other than Drake Bell as my fave Spidey VA but that’s another somewhat controversial rant in itself). I loved how Tom really captured the spirit of a young Peter. He gave an incredibly realistic take on the character as being a young, scared kid underneath it all with a huuuge responsibility, but he is still having fun with his powers and reacting as you would expect a kid to do. I actually found his performance very credible.  One question, though. Did Peter have Spidey sense in this movie? I don’t recall it being showcased or mentioned. 

2. Marisa Tomei as Aunt May - I am a huge fan of Ultimate Aunt May, so it goes without saying that Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May is my favourite version too precisely because she is shown here to be a character who has her own life which doesn’t just revolve around Peter. It was a good casting choice.

3. Zendeya as “Michelle”. For the record, I really liked Zendeya’s character. Loved her tomboy look and she had a lot of sass and one liners in the movie. She was generally a great character. However, I did have some issues with this character, particularly surrounding what she reveals at the end of the movie. Okay, so she is called Michelle Jones which, I get, is “MJ” for short. Fair enough. But if Michelle is “MJ”, then why not just call her Mary Jane? I wouldn’t have minded if they had had just done what they did with Flash who is obviously a very different take on his character, but at least they still called him “Flash”. Michelle’s personality could have easily fit with a cooler and nerdier Mary Jane, similar to kind of how she is in Ultimate Spider-Man comics and cartoon, so I don’t know why they had to invent this “Michelle” character, who is the “MJ” of this universe. Like I said, I don’t dislike their take on the character. I’d take her to Kirstin Dunst’s Mary Jane any day of the week, but why “Michelle?”

4. Robert Downey Jr as Ironman and Tony and Peter’s relationship – Robert Downley Jr was great (as you’d expect), but it goes without saying that having Ironman and his relationship with Spidey feature in this movie was one of the highlights. Now that Peter is finally in the MCU universe, we get to see the dymanic between them on the big screen and it is perfect. I’m a big IronSpider fan and this movie did not disappoint. There was so many great Tony + Peter moments to appreciate such as the awkward “hug” scene, Tony giving Peter a lecture after the Statten Island Ferry incident and Tony comparing himself to his own father while lecturing Peter. There were so many other cute moments between them and so many feels, needless to say I love the Tony/Peter dynamic of Tony as the mentor/older male figure who pretends he’s too cool to care and Peter as the teen who idolises and wants to be like him. At first I was disappointed that Peter did not make his own suit, but actually I can now see how it made more sense that Ironman was involved. At least Peter still made his own web fluid. It was more realistic, I guess. But yeah, loved seeing Ironman and Spidey in this movie. 

5. Michael Keaton as the vulture. We actually have a great bad guy for once in Michael Keaton. Having a strong villain is just as important as having a strong hero and this is something the other Spider-Man movies have previously lacked (with maybe the exception of Otto in Spider-Man 2). Usually in Spider-Man movies, they either try to cram too many villains in at once (here’s looking at you Spider-Man 3) or the villains are just plan forgetful (I honestly cannot remember who the villain was in Amazing Spider-Man). Keaton, on the other hand, did a great job. There is also that great scene where the twist is revealed and the characters come face to face. You can actually see the fear and shock on Peter’s face when he realises who The Vulture is outside of costume. When I was at uni, my tutor (a professional writer who writes scripts for various UK TV shows) once said how in every great action movie, there always have at least one scene where the hero and villain come face to face off the battlefield, where there is a moment of understanding between them.  This really was one of those great moments which made this movie so much better because of it. 

6. Other supporting characters, such as Ned Leeds, Flash and Liz – I felt the supporting cast was mostly good. My initial worry is that Ned was too much like Ganke. To be honest, I still think that’s the case, but I can see how he was a nice addition to the movie and a funny character who was actually useful to the plot. I’ll be honest about Flash. I hated this take on Flash, mainly because I have always associated Flash as being a jock but then, as it has been pointed out, this movie is trying to move away from stereotypes like the “big dumb jock” and “preppy girl.” Liz was fine as the beautiful but smart girl who has depth. I’ll be honest, I do not like Liz as Peter’s love interest in any universe, but she played her role well enough. Flash…well… I’m still not sure about Flash to be honest, but I see what the writers we’re trying to do and I’ll give them a nod for that. But the true star of supporting characters was Happy!! Can we talk about HAPPY?!!!

7. Conclusion

Overall I thought it was well written, well acted and entertaining as far as superhero movies go. It has it’s flaws, but it is so much better than the mess that was Amazing Spider-Man (in my opinion) and it provides a much more up-to-date version of the character which was needed. There are some things I might have liked to see, like maybe a quick cameo from J K Simmons as J Jonah Jamerson, even if they had just flashed his face flash on the screen like they do in The Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon.  I for one am glad we didn’t get a repeat of the same story with Uncle Ben and the Osborns. It will be interesting to see where the series goes next.
